Sasha Grey, Twitter’s Art-House Eulogist

So I’m bumping around the Web this morning looking for any morsel of sustenance in the Great News Drought of 2010 when I learn that the one and only Bruno S. died late last week. You know: Bruno S.? Berlin street musician and Werner Herzog’s haunted, haunting leading man from Enigma of Kaspar Hauser and Strozsek ? Oh. Well, the only thing more troubling than arriving almost five days late to the news is that I had to hear it from Sasha Grey. Via Twitter.

True Blood Sex and Violence Meter: Network News Lacks Backbone

Last night’s episode of True Blood served mainly to move some chess pieces (and vampire viscera) around before the final run of episodes, but it was not without its pleasures, as well as the return of a fan favorite. Still, can this slow-burn of an hour rate highly on the sex and violence meters? Let’s take a look:

‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Dividing Point Revealed

First movie will end ‘at about Chapter 24 of the book,’ according to upcoming article in Entertainment Weekly. By Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. Given that the novel clocks in at 759 pages and 36 chapters, not to mention a controversial flash-forward epilogue, there’s little question that the film adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” needed extra legroom to properly stretch itself. As a result, Warner Bros. made the fan-supported decision to split the final installment of the “Harry Potter” franchise into two movies, but one question still plagues Potterites everywhere: At what moment in the story will the films split up ? It would seem that the answer is upon us, as “Harry Potter” fan site Muggle Net has come across what appears to be scanned pages of a “Deathly Hallows” preview article from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. In the article, it’s clearly stated that the November-releasing first installment of “Deathly Hallows” concludes “at about Chapter 24 of the book, with Voldemort gaining possession of the Elder Wand, one of the three Deathly Hallows that allow the bearer to conquer death.” By all accounts, it appears that the scans are legitimate, potentially putting an end to countless hours of fan speculation about where the two movies would diverge. In the article, Warner Bros. Entertainment President Alan Horn spoke about splitting the last “Harry Potter” novel into two films, acknowledging that there were certainly commercial reasons driving the final decision. “I don’t want to be disingenuous or dishonest about this,” Horn told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s no question that Warner Bros. will make more money with two films than they would have with one. But we also never, ever would have done this if [author J.K. Rowling] had not endorsed it and if we didn’t feel that we were providing a better finale, with a more full sense of closure. We just respect and love the books too much for that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘The Hills’ Fans React To Series Finale

‘It was creative,’ says one fan of twist in show’s final scene. ‘I think it kept people talking.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Audrina Patridge on the final episode of “The Hills” Photo: MTV The final half-hour of “The Hills” saga wasn’t brimming with the over-the-top drama fans had come to expect from the series. But a shocking twist at the end of the finale left many viewers with lingering questions. After the final pained goodbye between Brody and Kristin, the “Hills” diva didn’t ride off into the sunset as expected. Instead, a fake backdrop emblazoned with the “Hollywood” sign was rolled away and cameras pulled back to reveal a movie lot, as Kristin hopped out of the car — that should have taken her to the airport — and embraced Brody in a bear hug. The ending left fans wondering just how much of the reality show, which had captivated millions of viewers for years, was real. While some “Hills” followers liked the twist, others weren’t so impressed. “It was creative,” Reyna commented on MTVNews.com. “I think it kept people talking.” LawGirl83 agreed, writing, “I knew it! That final [scene] was spectacular.” “I love the hills alot! The ending was great but goodbyes are always sad!” Kristina Bergmann wrote on the “The Hills” Facebook page . “Kristin almost made me cry when she was with Brody saying good bye!” “FREAKIN LOVED THE ENDING!!!!!!” Lauren Windey wrote. However, many fans were simply puzzled. Noelle Ciemny wrote on Facebook, “I was so confused,” adding, “I wish brody and kristen would be together theyre [adorable] together.” Kianna Green wondered, “Was it all fake?” while Joey Jakira Blum wrote, “I just dont understand why or what the point of the ending was.” Others, like Maya Willis, were conflicted about the show’s final moments. “I was taken aback by the end scene, but honestly, how could you not know the show had its scripted and staged moments?” she wrote on Facebook, adding, “I do believe that there were some real emotions shown throughout the show and real arguments.” Some strongly criticized the ambiguity of the ending. “[I] thought they should have answered the question straight up. The fans deserve to know!!” Nikah2o posted on our website. Still, for many fans, the way the show wrapped up wasn’t as important as the fact that “The Hills” is gone for good. An anonymous poster on The Hills Gossip Online blog wrote, “I’m going to miss the hills!” “I [choked] up a little,” Suraya wrote on MTVNews.com. “It really ended,” she added, tagging a sad-face emoticon onto her post. Will you miss “The Hills”? Were you upset by the ending? Let us know in the comments! ‘The Hills’ Cast Addresses Mysterious Finale Scene

‘What’s real and what’s fake, you don’t know,’ Brody Jenner says of ending in which series seemed to break fourth wall. By Jocelyn Vena Kristin Cavallari and Brody Jenner Photo: MTV News “The Hills” came to an end with much fanfare on Tuesday night. But while the big buzz centered on Lauren Conrad’s return during the show’s live aftershow, most fans were scratching their heads about the series’ final scene. In the last scene, Kristin Cavallari gets into a waiting car destined for the airport, where she told her “Hills” pals she’d board a flight to some unnamed country in Europe. We watched as Kristin closes the car door, leaving Brody Jenner behind, waving goodbye … or so we thought. But instead of pulling away, the camera pans out to show the entire production, including crewmembers and cameramen. So, were the “Hills” producers commenting on the veracity of the events devoted fans watched unfold over six seasons? “The thing is, as you saw on the end — what’s real and what’s fake, you don’t know,” Jenner explained during the live aftershow broadcast. “Our relationship, the entire time could have been fake,” he said. “That’s one of the questions: what was real and what was fake, and we left it [open].” As for his partner in crime, Kristin, she said she enjoyed the way the show concluded. “I mean, I think we both couldn’t have been happier with the ending. We were speechless,” Cavallari said. Their ‘Hills” co-star Lo Bosworth seemed equally impressed with the final outcome and how it featured the onetime couple. “You know when the last scenes of the show were happening, I got a little [lump] in my throat,” she said. “They were great. I loved it.” The entire “Hills” crew, except Heidi and Spencer, was on hand to reminisce about their time on the show. And while the event was generally lighthearted, during a montage of Heidi’s life pre-Spencer, her sister, Holly, was visibly upset and crying. Holly told viewers she wasn’t sure about the status of Speidi, but said she hoped to one day be reunited with her sister, even praising her (“She’s the best person”). The series aftershow also allowed Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, to settle some rumors, including one that has her appearing next on MTV’s “The City,” which wrapped its second season on Tuesday night. “No! I twittered two weeks ago [that] I bought an open-ended ticket to New York,” Pratt explained. “That’s how it happened,” she said of the gossip. What did you think of the “Hills” series finale? Were you choked up? Surprised by the final scene? Tell us what you thought in the comments! Mel Gibson Officially Unglued, Possibly Ruined in Epic New Hate Tape

If Mel Gibson’s first audiotaped rant to emerge from the bowels of tabloid-breakup hell was not toxic enough for you, have a listen to the eight-minute dance remix that debuted today. Ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva surreptitiously recorded the actor-producer-director in a meltdown to end all meltdowns — which honestly, for much of the tape, sounds like just what you’d expect from a guy who acknowledges having “left my wife because we have no spiritual common ground” , and then shacked up with the kind of person who would leak a tape of him going nuts after things went poorly between them . Anyone would be pissed! And then comes the final minute, and this kind of changes everything.
