Top 5 Songs On Big Sean’s “Finally Famous”

See the original post here:

Today, Detroit rapper Big Sean released his debut album on Kanye West ‘s G.O.O.D. Music label. When I listen to Finally Famous , I can’t help but draw comparisons to Drake ; both artists are obsessed with fame and women, and their lyrical content reflects that. But unlike Drake’s Thank Me Later , Big Sean’s debut album is markedly superior in terms of production and musicality, thanks to No I.D.  While I also like The Neptunes produced “Get It” and the playful “High” featuring none other than Wiz Khalifa, these are my top five songs: Big Sean Speaks On Drake Biting His Rhyme Style [VIDEO] Kelly Rowland Ft. Big Sean “Lay It On Me” [NEW MUSIC] 5. “Memories” featuring John Legend produced by No I.D. I’m a fan of songs that allow me to connect with the artist on a deeper level.  So I like that Big Sean reveals himself on this track. The strings, piano, guitar, and layered vocals reinforce the sincere and sentimental vibe. 4. “Wait For Me” featuring Lupe Fiasco produced No I.D. and Exile Okay, so this sample just made my soul smile.  And the fact that Lupe Fiasco jumps on is an automatic enhancement to the song. 3. “My Last” featuring Chris Brown produced by No I.D. Catchy.  Fun and easy to sing along to.  If you’ve heard this song on the radio recently, I’m sure you already know why this song is on my list! 2. “So Much More” produced No I.D. Comparable to Kanye West’s “Cheers” on College Dropout , this song nearly tops my list (mainly because the sample is so hot)!  And unlike most, I like listening to rappers babble about their journey to stardom … seriously. 1. “I Do It” produced by No I.D. and The Legendary Traxster Let me just say, this beat is hard!  And some of lyrics have me laughing my head off.  I’ve probably listened to this song too many times.  If you’re looking for a song to give you an ego boost, press play. The Detroit MC and 2010 XXL Freshmen 10 alum will be fresh from rocking South by Southwest this past weekend with Jay-Z and his G.O.O.D Music family, including mentor Kanye West. Big Sean first made a name for himself about four years ago when his song “Getcha Some” was a standout on West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing mixtape. After catching Yeezy at a radio station and impressing him with an impromptu audition, Sean passed on a scholarship to Michigan State University to tour with West and eventually signed with the Chicago rapper’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint in 2007. Since then, Sean has released three volumes of his Finally Famous mixtapes ( The Mixtape, U Know Big Sean and BIG ) to keep his fans satiated, and he was also a regular on West’s G.O.O.D. Friday music leaks. After a few delays, Sean’s long-in-the-making debut album, Finally Famous: The Album, has an official release date of May 3. Right now, Sean can be heard on the album’s No I.D.-produced lead single “My Last,” which features R&B crooner Chris Brown. “I’ve seen and [gone] from doing shows in Detroit and getting booed to people just looking to a couple people knowing the words to doing sold-out shows with thousands and thousands of people just knowing [my songs],” Sean told MTV News from the set of the video for “My Last.” “And it [comes from] years of grinding, man.” Sean performed the song at SXSW and the Detroit spitter also has a verse on West’s soon to be released “All of the Lights” remix with Drake and Lil Wayne . Big Sean Keeps ‘Grinding’ As A ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Candidate

Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010′ — vote now! The winner will be revealed on July 25. By Shaheem Reid Big Sean Photo: G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” Candidate: Big Sean Big Sean’s new Olympicks-produced single is called “What U Doin’ (Bullsh—in’),” but the Detroit MC’s heat index is on the rise because he isn’t a BS artist. “The misconception is thinking we just started,” Sean said about himself and some of his fellow “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” candidates such as Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle and Pill. “People been grinding for years trying to get their first look. That’s the biggest misconception. It’s not overnight for real.” Signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label , Sean said he picked up a few jewels by watching his labelmate Kid Cudi, who was in a similar situation last year. Cudi had buzz off mixtapes and hip-hop blogs but eventually had to deliver hit singles and an acclaimed debut album. “You just learn, man,” Sean said. “You can make it as big as you wanna make it. You gotta grind hard. You get the look, now it’s time to shine. “Trying to break through, that’s it,” he added of his main goal. “You just gotta get that look. People have to start listening, people have to be drawn to you somehow.” Sean has come a long way since his fateful encounter with Kanye at a Detroit radio station in 2005. West liked that Sean had witty punch lines but also told his own story. He was a kid from the D who went to work, sometimes struggled to come up with gas money and loved hip-hop. He wasn’t trying to be anything he wasn’t. Since then, Sean dropped his Finally Famous mixtape in 2007 and broke ground in his career with UKnowBigSean last year. He’s been sprinkling several unrelated songs throughout cyberspace, alongside the likes of fellow upstarts Chip the Ripper, Wale, Mike Posner, his G.O.O.D. Music family members (West, Common, Cudi, Consequence) and the undeniable breakthrough act of 2009: Drake. “The mixtape circuit and the whole online circuit is more important than anything,” Sean said. “More important than air, than all of that. It’s all love. That’s crazy. The mixtape plays the most important role as far as artists like me, new artists getting heard. We may not be able to get on the radio, we may not be able to do that, but we can touch everybody through the Internet and through these mixtapes.” His LP is named after his first mixtape, Finally Famous. “The debut album coming out his year,” Sean added. “Its executive-produced by Kanye and L.A. Reid. G.O.O.D. Music/ Def Jam. We got Pharrell on there, Kanye, the G.O.O.D. Music fam. A couple of other surprises. Me and Drake collabbed. It’s gonna be something to remember. I hope people get a chance to listen. Finally Famous. It’s not because somebody just got on and I’m finally famous. It has deeper meaning to that. It’s a story.” Sean’s debut will be coming this fall, tentatively scheduled to drop around the same time as the next LPs by Kanye West and Kid Cudi. His newest mixtape will come out later this year, and it’s called B.I.G. Underground bangers that have come out recently, “Supa Dupa Lemonade” and “High Rise,” will be included, along with brand-new material. Sean and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Kanye West Protege Big Sean Talks Being Finally Famous

‘I used to tell people that I used to ride to high school listening to Kanye,’ the MC says of being signed to West’s G.O.O.D Music. By Steven Roberts Big Sean and Kanye West Photo: MTV News Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music label is gearing up for a banner year. The rapper/producer’s G.O.O.D Music Grammy Family boasts some of the most anticipated albums of 2010: Kid Cudi is set to release his newly reworked sophomore effort, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, Common is working on his The Believer album and West is reportedly aiming to deliver his Good Ass Job this fall. But one project that has the streets seriously excited is Finally Famous, the debut album from the roster’s youngest member, Big Sean . Earlier this year, Sean was named one of XXL ‘s Freshman 10 , and MTV News caught up with the Detroit rapper on the set of the cover shoot for the magazine’s buzzed-about issue. Sean opened up about his upcoming project (still without a release date), saying it represented more to him than just getting on. “I’m calling it Finally Famous because, basically, that’s how I live,” Sean explained. “I feel like when you’re famous for something, you’re being recognized for it. I threw that “finally” in front of it just to symbolize and point out the struggle that I always had to go through.” And Sean acknowledged that he had some key backers helping him to get to this point. Signed Def Jam and G.O.O.D Music, Sean’s Famous counts L.A. Reid and West as executive producers. Sean cited both Kanye and (West’s mentor) producer No ID as influential in his own development. The A-list producers are onboard for his debut, alongside the Neptunes and lesser-known producers like Wright Traxx and Chris Liggio. “Man, it’s unreal. I used to tell people that I used to ride to high school listening to Kanye,” Sean recalled. “Listening to people like Pharrell, and looking up to people like L.A. Reid, so getting a chance to know them now, to work with them, to do business, that’s unbelievable. It’s like super dream come true.” The “Supa Dupa” MC’s debut will feature collaborations with most of his G.O.O.D family, as well as Drake and The-Dream, but he was excited about a track he recorded with Pharrell called “Donald Trump.” ” ‘Donald Trump’ is more inspirational. It’s just about, like, reaching a certain point of success. Like Pharrell is singing on the hook, ‘I’m trying to stuff ’til I can’t get no more/ I’m talking Donald Trump level.’ He’s not even necessarily talking money — he’s talking knowledge and power and all of that.” Which Big Sean collaboration are you most looking forward to hearing?
