Minutes before the MTV premiere of the highly anticipated, Rihanna-featuring video for “Take Care,” Drake debuted the Lil Wayne-assisted video for “HYFR” on his October’s Very Own blog. As we saw via a few photos from the set recently, the video is a re-creation of Drizzy’s Bar Mitzvah . The clip opens with footage of a very young Aubrey “Drake” Graham at a friend or relative’s Bar Mitzvah years ago. Little Drake says “mazel tov” to camera, and then we cut to the video’s introduction, which is printed in white lettering over a black background. “On October 24th 2011 Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham chose to get re-Bar Mitzvah’d as a re-commitment to the Jewish religion.” We see another few seconds from the archive footage, in which little Drake is busting some moves on the dance floor, looking totally comfortable performing to the camera, before we hear the opening of “HYFR” and cut to Drake dressed to the nines in his freshest bar mitzvah formalwear standing in front of a group of what appear to be his childhood friends — including longtime producer Noah “40” Shebib. The video takes place in three different settings: The first is the opening shot outside the temple, the Bar Mitzvah ceremony inside the temple and the reception after the ceremony. Over the course of the nearly four-minute clip, we watch Drizzy chillin’ with his homies all civilized-like, then we see him going through the motions of the Mitzvah, reciting scripture inside the temple with a rabbi, and then we watch everyone wildin’ out at the reception with drinks, dancing and talking to ladies. Decorations and cakes are smashed, and Weezy — who is first shown fully clothed, wearing a panda hat/mask — eventually strips down to just his pants. There are also playful assists/cameos made by Trey Songz, Birdman and DJ Khaled. By Akshay Bhansali Fedde Le Grand Photo: Andrew Rauner NEW YORK — Due to post-Miami-EDM fatigue, Thursday night’s Cosmic Opera Act II may have only been for New York’s super-committed dance music fans. With 1,500 or so tickets sold, though, for those in attendance, the high-concept Opera-meets-EDM party was an exceptional effort. Dubbed “Imbroglio,” the second Act of CO was set in a steampunk world, with the experience meant to evoke the fire, angst and turmoil that comes after two people first meet and fall in love. It was similar to the way that EDM and Opera did in February when Cosmic Opera debuted, featuring Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell as headliner. “There’s fire and gritty performances, and aerialists battling it out in a Thunderdome above the audience,” Cosmic Opera founder Justin Cohen told MTV News Friday (April 6). “We have this claw chandelier, it’s actually the heaviest chandelier in the world right now, and everything is moving, which goes along with that story of this is Imbroglio Act II. And now things are getting a bit crazier.” And crazier it did get, but in a uncontrived, cool way. Fire-wielding performers spit flames around the Opera’s organ-like DJ booth and stage-flanking runways. A unique 360-degree laser was featured in a spectacular light display. “Eyes Wide Shut”-esque masked performer couples ambled about the crowds, shifting from infatuation to clash and back. Forty-foot-high LED screens moved forward and backward, and the chandelier claw would descend down into the audience lined with lights. And Cohen and his team tapped a talent pool certainly capable of bringing an angsty, aggressive, hard-hitting audio experience to New York both nights in dBerrie, Funkagenda, Felix Cartal , Zedd and headliner Fedde Le Grand . Rising star Zedd continues to dazzle, and it’s worth noting that for being a nice, young, smallish (in size up there onstage) guy, he continues to lay down among the more explosive sets in dance music. And Thursday night was no exception. The venue’s six LED screens depicted flames, and five dancers in white wigs and silver attire hit the stages’ runways for Zedd’s Opera entrance number, with Zedd signaling with his hands, “Let’s do this.” And with that, his onslaught began: Fans chanted back Angger Dimas & Bassjackers’ “Ria.” Giant lengths of steam shot out into the crowd for Dada Life’s “Kick Out the Epic Motherf—er,” and the audience seemed in a frenzy for Knife Party’s whopping “Internet Friends.” After an electric set ended with a new song, and Zedd’s new mash-up of “Slam the Door” and buddy Skrillex’s “Cinema” (Zedd revealed to MTV News he calls it “Don’t Slam the Cinema”), he handed the baton over, literally via a performer, to Dutch house music star Fedde Le Grand , who headlined both nights of COII. A sumptuous violin solo performance led into Le Grand’s headlining organ-DJ booth, steam-punked out with pipes and a baritone saxophone. And then FLG began his set with a hearty remix of his hit “So Much Love” and followed with room-shaking hit after hit. Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” Steve Angello’s “Knas,” Benny Benassi’s “House Music” and Arty’s “Around the World” were all part of his arsenal. But so were some stellar reworks. Steam shots drove the crowd mental when FLG dropped opening performer dBerrie’s remix of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” An unknown bootleg of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” was masterful, as was a provocative “Leave the World Behind” vs. Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams.” After Fedde Le Grand’s two-hour closing set and a three-hour production breakdown, Cohen and his team readied Friday night’s final showing of Cosmic Opera Act II, which will see the Felix Cartal join in the festivities. You know you are already wondering if the police were called, since they look all white: In the wake of this week’s junior varsity tournament baseball game that ended in a brawl, parents said eight JV players have been suspended and kicked off the Yuba City High School team. Officials at Yuba City Unified School District would not confirm the punishment meted out so far, but parents said they’ve spoken among themselves and many think the punishment was too extreme. “Was our pitcher wrong? Absolutely. Nobody is denying that. However, are our boys supposed to sit back while their whole dugout comes and tackles our pitcher?,” asked parent Stacy Todd, referring to the moment in the game when the pitcher for the Yuba City team threw a baseball at the first base coach after he’d allegedly called the pitcher’s mother an insulting name. Todd’s son Camryn was suspended for five days for admitting he’d thrown a punch during the fracas. She said her son did not expect to be banned from baseball for the season. “He’s devastated. He had no idea he would be kicked off the team,” Todd said. Several students at Yuba City High School said they had mixed feelings about the punishment. “I think he was just defending his mom, but I don’t think he needed to go that far as to throw the ball and rush on the coach,” Yuba City High freshman Lissette Luney said. Meanwhile, veteran umpire Sarjeet Singh said officials have to keep control of a game. “Basically, you have to see those things coming,” Singh said. “Sometimes you don’t, you don’t. But, I feel at the high school level you can see it coming.” RELATED STORY: Districts investigate brawl at youth baseball game Monday’s game at Granite Bay between Del Campo and Yuba City ended in a fight, which for a time was posted on YouTube. In the video, it appears that members of the Yuba City team charge onto the field and fighting erupts. “The administration and adults are ultimately responsible for what occurred on the baseball field,” Singh said. “They have to assume responsibility for the situation and dish out punishment as needed.” Some parents said they believe part of the blame lies on the officiating. There was only one umpire working the game, the normal number for JV baseball. “Certainly, the more adults the better,” San Juan Unified School District spokesperson Trent Allen said. “But, you do have multiple coaches, you have the ump and you hopefully have caring parents, hopefully setting a good example for students.” Although, in the video, a person who appears to be a parent is clearly seen running onto the field. “They’re trying to help,” Singh said. “But, really they’re just fueling the fire… Between the lines, no parent belongs on a baseball diamond!” Investigations by both the Yuba City Unified School District and San Juan Unified School District are underway. If warranted, punishment could range from a single game suspension to expulsion from school. “The consequences that are at hand for this kind of thing would be suspension from school, suspension from the team, being removed from the team, being placed up for expulsion,” Yuba City Unified School District Superintendent Nancy Aaberg said. “Any of our players who came out of the dugout and threw punches would certainly face disciplinary action,” Allen said. “And then, of course, we’ll look at how our adults behaved as well.” Image And Source News10/KXTV More On Bossip! With more than half the delegates needed for nomination, Romney setting sights on President Obama. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney at an election-night rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Photo: Getty Images Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney took a big step toward locking down the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday when he pulled off a clean sweep of the day’s three primaries. With decisive victories in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia, Romney appeared to finally vanquish his rivals as he increasingly turned his attention to President Obama. Romney won 42.5 percent of the vote in Wisconsin, outpacing his only remaining threat, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who earned 37.6 percent. Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich were well behind both men in all three contests. In Maryland, Romney took 49.1 percent to Santorum’s 28.9 and in Washington, D.C., Romney landed a commanding 70 percent to Paul’s 12 and Gingrich’s 11; Santorum was not on the ballot in D.C. “This has really been quite a night. We won a great victory tonight in our campaign to restore the promise of America,” Romney said. “President Obama thinks he’s doing a good job — I’m not kidding,” he told a crowd in Milwaukee while standing in front of a large American flag, according to the New York Times . “It’s enough to make you think that years of flying around on Air Force One, surrounded by an adoring staff of true believers telling you that you’re great and you’re doing a great job, it’s enough to make you think that you might become a little out of touch.” After once again slamming the president for creating what he deemed a “government-centered society” based on bloated White House policies, Romney promised his followers that he would preside over a different America if he wins in November. “The dreamers can dream a little bigger, the help wanted signs can be dusted off, and we can start again,” he said. “And this time we’ll get it right.” Romney now has 58 percent of the delegates needed to secure the nomination, but his slow, methodical march to the magic number of 1,144 is not quite over, as Santorum vowed that he would stay in the race through the April 24 primaries. Five states will vote on that day, including his home state of Pennsylvania, where Santorum believes he can put up a convincing victory that might pave the way to more wins in May. According to estimates, Romney has 648 delegates so far to Santorum’s 264. Even before Romney could celebrate, he got a taste of what the general election might feel like when President Obama singled him out for some criticism while speaking to a crowd of editors and reporters in Washington. Obama slammed Romney for supporting a GOP budget proposal that the president likened to “social Darwinism.” “He said that he’s ‘very supportive’ of this new budget,” Obama said of Romney, before seeming to mock his potential challenger’s one-percent pedigree. “And he even called it ‘marvelous,’ which is a word you don’t often hear when it comes to describing a budget … it’s a word you don’t hear generally.” He assailed the budget plan put forward by House Republicans for slashing funding for education and infrastructure in favor of more tax breaks for the wealthy. The fiery speech came on the same day that Obama clinched the uncontested Democratic presidential nomination with wins in all three states. With Santorum (not to mention Gingrich and Paul) showing no signs of leaving the GOP contest, pundits predicted that the road ahead for Romney could still be tough, as he must continue to beat back the other contenders in some Southern primaries in May while attempting to focus his fire on Obama. Ridley Scott may or may not be spilling details on how Prometheus factors into the Alien franchise, but a new clip from the film sheds a few shards of light on the connection, and cleverly so: Watch Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland (CEO of Weyland Corporation, to become the future Weyland-Yutani Corp.) give a riveting TED Talk, circa 2023, promising a bright new future to the tech set. In the clip (directed by Luke Scott) Weyland touches on the Greek mythology of the fire-stealer Prometheus and the sacrifices humanity must suffer in the name of progress, hooking into Alien lore with mentions of a looming developments in lifelike “cybernetic individuals.” “We are the gods now,” he boasts, stirring the crowd. “I will settle for nothing short of greatness, or I will die trying.” Something tells me the latter might just happen (at least to Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, or Noomi Rapace) once the spaceship explosions and still-ambiguous scares start raining down on the intrepid crew of the Prometheus. On the TED Blog , Weyland’s TED Talk is described thusly: Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade. Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow. “Sir Peter’s” bio, meanwhile, reveals his pedigree: Sir Peter Weyland was born in Mumbai, India at the turn of the Millennium. The progeny of two brilliant parents; His mother, an Oxford Educated Professor of Comparative Mythology, his father, a self-taught software Engineer, it was clear from an early age that Sir Peter’s capabilities would only be eclipsed by his ambition to realize them. By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic break-throughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire. In less than a decade, Weyland Corporation became a worldwide leader in emerging technologies and launched the first privatized industrial mission to leave the planet Earth. “There are other worlds than this one,” Sir Peter boldly declared, “And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it.” All of the above would seem to support rumors filtered out of Hungarian press this week citing Scott as explaining Weyland’s role as connective tissue between Prometheus and the Alien films; the reports suggests that ruthless, progress-hungry capitalist Weyland is the person responsible for sending the Prometheus crew out to investigate the origin of mankind in the first place.
