New Study Says Honey Buns Keep Inmates From Wilin’ Out

Apparently, Honey Buns has outpaced Newports as the number one item of trade in the slammer. A new study released by the St. Petersburg Times in Florida says a sweet sticky treat has become the currency of choice for inmates in the Florida penal system. “According to the St. Petersburg Times, Honey buns sell better than “tobacco, envelopes and cans of Coke” across Florida prisons, where 270,000 of the gross little things get sold every month. Mrs. Freshley’s Grand Honey Buns appear to be the brand of choice when inmates want to get haircuts, drugs, or even barter for muscle to protect their own ‘honey buns’ while doing their bid. Apparently, inmates trade the tasty treats and have come up with some inventive ways to use the prison pastry. * Inmates in North Carolina used honey buns to “sweeten a wine they fermented from orange juice.” * An unemployed father who was saved from the electric chair by public defenders paid his lawyers in honey buns. (The lawyer says: “They were good, too.”) * In at least two cases, inmates have reportedly been murdered over honey buns. * A Florida bail bondsman was purportedly paying an inmate in honey buns for business referrals. * “At the Stock Island Detention Center, outside Key West, scheming inmates offered overnight arrestees in the jail’s drunk tank an irresistible deal: their Social Security numbers for a honey bun. Using the numbers, they filled out tax forms with phony information a scam that cost the IRS more than $1 million in fraudulent refunds.” How sweetly ironic. Some of the nations most hardened criminals are gnoshing on honey buns over fermented wine. Pinkys up ladies. Source

‘Jersey Shore’ Recap: Snooki And The Gang Come Home

Newcomer Deena is already stirring things up with the roomies. By Jim Cantiello Snooki, JWoww, Pauly D and Vinny on “Jersey Shore” on Thursday Photo: MTV On Thursday night, the “Jersey Shore” crew returned to the land that made them famous: Seaside Heights. Yes, after 13 episodes in Miami, they’re finally back in the land of unironic jean shorts, novelty tees and happy-go-lucky steroid users. (And that’s just the children who visit Seaside.) But there’s a new girl in town: Snooki’s friend (and instant superstar) Deena . She won me over as soon as she described herself as a “blast in a glass.” Her ingredients: two parts Snooki, one part Madam the puppet and a splash of Milania Giudice from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” Within five hours of arriving at the house, she managed to drunkenly show the Situation her lady parts and call one of her roommates the C-word. So, really, how can you not relate to her? These “Jersey” episodes were taped just a little while after the cast hit up Miami, so the Florida wounds are still fresh. Thank the pop-culture gods for that, because otherwise we wouldn’t have had the guttural “ugh” that JWoww burped out upon seeing her mortal enemy Sammi in the Jersey house for the first time. Best moment ever. Sammi and Ronnie are still dating, having survived the tumultuous Miami trip that found Sammi lying in a bed and whining for two months straight while Ronnie put his face in strangers’ cleavage any chance he got. Back in Jersey, they’re the first ones to arrive. Because they’re vile, hateful people, they take the upstairs room that has three beds, meaning one of the (single) roomies will have to be the third wheel to their dysfunction at nighttime. Or, really, any time of the day, because all Sammi ever does is lay in bed. (The Situation ends up being the low man on the totem pole. Hope you like watching a girl ugly-cry and pet her hair extensions, buddy!) Snooki’s back and bronzer than ever. (You know the law of sequels. The first sequel is always bloodier than the original. And this one has more spray tan.) This time, Snooki’s determined to hook up with Vinny again, even though she described their first failed attempt at coitus as putting “a watermelon in a pinhole.” You might say that sounds horrific, but Snooki obviously has a thing for gigantic … personalities. While Snooki tried to mack on Vinny, Deena slapped a flower on her head and set her sights on the Situation. As any “Jersey Shore” viewer could tell you, Sitch would normally jump at the chance to get with a girl who is so drunk she can barely stand, but shockingly, he turned her down. (You know the old saying, “Why buy the milk when the cow willingly shows you her vagina?”) Sammi laughed at Deena’s sloppiness, Deena responded by calling her the C-word, and Ronnie started yelling at Deena because he realized he hadn’t done anything this episode and wanted some screen time. Eventually, Sammi joined the fight, the C-word was thrown around some more, and the episode ended with JWoww walking up to Sammi and swinging. Bam. So, in other words, same sh–, different day. I’m so glad “Jersey Shore” is back. What were your favorite moments? What are your thoughts on Deena joining the show? Are you Team Sammi or Team Everyone Else? On a scale of 100 to 100, how awesome was DJ Pauly D’s mom? (More of her please, producers!) And finally, why aren’t you following me on Twitter already? The name’s @jambajim. Please wear it out. Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Videos Jersey Shore (Season 2) | Ep. 14 | Deleted Scene It’s The Return Of ‘Jersey Shore’! Texas Man Declared Innocent After Being Locked Up For 30 Years For A Crime He Didn’t Commit

This is deep: A Texas man declared innocent Tuesday after 30 years in prison could have cut short his prison stint twice and made parole — if only he would admit he was a sex offender. But Cornelius Dupree Jr. refused to do so, doggedly maintaining his innocence in a 1979 rape and robbery, in the process serving more time for a crime he didn’t commit than any other Texas inmate exonerated by DNA evidence. “Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it,” Dupree, 51, said Tuesday, minutes after a Dallas judge overturned his conviction. Nationally, only two others exonerated by DNA evidence spent more time in prison, according to the Innocence Project, a New York legal center that specializes in wrongful conviction cases and represented Dupree. James Bain was wrongly imprisoned for 35 years in Florida, and Lawrence McKinney spent more than 31 years in a Tennessee prison. Dupree was sentenced to 75 years in prison in 1980 for the rape and robbery of a 26-year-old Dallas woman a year earlier. He was released in July on mandatory supervision, and lived under house arrest until October. About a week after his release, DNA test results came back proving his innocence in the sexual assault. A day after his release, Dupree married his fiancee, Selma. The couple met two decades ago while he was in prison. His exoneration hearing was delayed until Tuesday while authorities retested the DNA and made sure it was a match to the victim. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins supported Dupree’s innocence claim. Looking fit and trim in a dark suit, Dupree stood through most of the short hearing, until state district Judge Don Adams told him, “You’re free to go.” One of Dupree’s lawyers, Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck, called it “a glorious day.” “It’s a joy to be free again,” Dupree said. This latest wait was nothing for Dupree, who was up for parole as recently as 2004. He was set to be released and thought he was going home, until he learned he first would have to attend a sex offender treatment program. Those in the program had to go through what is known as the “four R’s.” They are recognition, remorse, restitution and resolution, said Jim Shoemaker, who served two years with Dupree in the Boyd Unit south of Dallas. “He couldn’t get past the first part,” said Shoemaker, who drove up from Houston to attend Dupree’s hearing. Shoemaker said he spent years talking to Dupree in the prison recreation yard, and always believed his innocence. “I got a lot of flak from the guys on the block,” Shoemaker said. “But I always believed him. He has a quiet, peaceful demeanor.” Under Texas compensation laws for the wrongly imprisoned, Dupree is eligible for $80,000 for each year he was behind bars, plus a lifetime annuity. He could receive $2.4 million in a lump sum that is not subject to federal income tax. The compensation law, the nation’s most generous, was passed in 2009 by the Texas Legislature after dozens of wrongly convicted men were released from prison. Texas has freed 41 wrongly convicted inmates through DNA since 2001 — more than any other state. Dallas County’s record of DNA exonerations — Dupree is No. 21 — is unmatched nationally because the county crime lab maintains biological evidence even decades after a conviction, leaving samples available to test. In addition, Watkins, the DA, has cooperated with innocence groups in reviewing hundreds of requests by inmates for DNA testing. Watkins, the first black district attorney in Texas history, has also pointed to what he calls “a convict-at-all-costs mentality” that he says permeated his office before he arrived in 2007. At least a dozen other exonerated former inmates from the Dallas area who collectively served more than 100 years in prison upheld a local tradition by attending the hearing and welcoming the newest member of their unfortunate fraternity. One of them, James Giles, presented Dupree with a $100 bill as a way to get his life restarted. F*ck a 100 dollar bill!!! They need to give that man some real money for doing all that time for NOTHING!! Source

Pro-Lifers Pissed At MTV Over ’16 And Pregnant’ Abortion Show

MTV has always been a controversy whore, especially their reality shows, so it’s no surprise that anti-abortion groups are up in arms over the new episode of ’16 and Pregnant’. MTV did not make the show available to the media before it airs and has forbidden Markai to give interviews about the subject. Still, in social media postings, the 19-year-old Florida girl has been preparing fans for the intense drama. “I get sad from time to time thinking about it but then everything happens for a reason,” she wrote. “God gave me 3 paths to take abortion, adoption, or raising this baby along with another. “I chose this path and I think about how stressing things would have been if I haven’t made the one I’ve made.” As expected, Markai has received intense criticism over her decision and not everyone thinks that MTV’s portrayal of girls being honest about their lives is a good thing. In recent months, MTV has promised to tackle “all sides” of the hot-button teen pregnancy issue. But pro-life blogger Jill Stanek says she expects a one-sided portrayal. “This apparently means the pro-life perspective will simply get tackled,” she writes, noting that the official Web site only links to pro-choice groups, including the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Stanek also points out that the show was done in cooperation with Exhale, a support group for teens who have had abortions. “Anytime anyone can help tell stories about women who have had abortions, we see that as a good thing,” says Erica Johnson, an Exhale counselor. Man, the folks at MTV really know how to keep the spotlight on themselves. What do you think, are they “out of pocket” for showing young girls talking about abortion?? Is MTV guilty of “promoting” abortion with these types of shows?? Source
