A Lil Positivity: Google Doodle Honors “Their Eyes Were Watching God ” Author Zora Neale Hurston

Google pays tribute to celebrated author Zora Neale Hurston. Google Honors Iconic Author Zora Neale Hurston Bout time Google showed Ms. Hurston some respect. According to NY Daily News: Their eyes were watching Google. Google’s daily Doodle, the digital image that greets billions of visitors to the site each day, honored Harlem Renaissance author Zora Neale Hurston yesterday on what would have been her 123rd birthday. Decked out in a olive green feathered cap and framed by an idyllic Everglades scene, the author’s visage rested on Google’s home page throughout the day. Sophia Foster-Dimino, the San Francisco-based artist behind the Google Doodle, said she was inspired by the author’s legacy. “She brought an incredible wealth of witty, heartfelt prose to our literary history,” said Foster-Dimino. “We’re overjoyed to celebrate her life and accomplishments today.” Hurston, best known for her seminal novel, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” was born in Florida on Jan. 7, 1891, but she moved to New York in 1925 with only $1.50 to her name. She soon became friends with Langston Hughes and Dorothy West. Carla Kaplan, a professor of American Literature at Northeastern University and author of “Zora Neale Hurston: A Life in Letters,” said the author and anthropologist would be “so tickled” to be praised in such a modern way. “She was a very private woman who loved publicity,” Kaplan said, adding that Hurston often found herself “wanting others to see that she had a glean or a shine.” Hurston’s life in Harlem was often stranger than fiction – the scribe once “borrowed” money from a homeless beggar for a subway fare, claiming she needed the money “worse than you today.” She died in poverty in a Florida welfare center in 1960. “She was always more interested in recognition than she was with money,” Kaplan said. This is huge for Google to celebrate Zora Neale Hurston in this way. Hopefully, this leads to the company paying tribute to more influential African Americans.

These hoes be actin’ up … Florida Woman Arrested For Sex With Boyfriend’s Teen Nephew Via NYDailyNews A Florida woman seduced her jailed boyfriend’s 15-year-old virgin nephew into having sex, police said. Caridad Munoz, 24, allegedly entered the boy’s locked room at his home in Hialeah at 2 a.m. Nov. 25 and solicited him for a good time. Cops claim Munoz, believed to be stoned from smoking pot, allegedly had intercourse with her victim using a condom he kept in his wallet. She then asked him to perform oral sex on her, police said. Munoz, who put the used prophylactic in her purse after they’d finished, then reportedly asked the boy where she could score some cocaine. “Since he was a virgin he felt intimidated by the defendant,” The Miami Herald reports the police saying in a statement. The teen called cops and, after questioning, Munoz reportedly consented she had had sex with the minor. She was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious battery of a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, reports NBC Miami. If convicted, Munoz faces 10 years in jail. Her bond was set at $32,000. That’s some bullisht, how you gonna accept the box, but call the cops with the dirty broad wants some blow? Image via Hialeah Police

Christian Slater and Brittany Lopez: Married!

Christian Slater married his girlfriend Brittany Lopez in an impromptu ceremony earlier this week. The couple has been together for over three years. Slater’s spokeswoman says the 44-year-old actor and Lopez tied the knot at the courthouse in Coral Gables, Fla. Congratulations to the happy newlyweds! The Heathers and True Romance star was previously married to Ryan Haddon. They have two children, a son, Jaden Christopher, and a daughter, Eliana. Christian Slater, an A-lister in the ’80s and ’90s, will star in the upcoming ABC series Mind Games , as well as director Lars von Trier’s film Nymphomaniac . Slater officially announced his engagement to Brittany Lopez back in February 2013 during an appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon . “Congratulations, you’re engaged!” Jimmy Fallon said to Slater, who replied, “Yeah, that’s true,” before giving the show’s audience the thumbs-up. Slater said that he met Lopez when he was staying on Florida’s Little Palm Island a few years ago, and it was an unusual way to meet your future wife. “This girl came walking along with another lady, a slightly older lady, and I was sitting in my usual spot eating my oatmeal that morning,” he explained. “So I’m a filthy old man eating my oatmeal and she comes walking along. This spot, I guess, was famous for people proposing to each other, actually.” “It was very, very nice. So she’s there with this old lady and, next thing I know, she gets down on one knee and proposes to this older lady.” “I’d seen a lot of crazy stuff down in the Florida Keys! I of course was very intrigued and I went over and sat down in my other usual spot.” “I thought I’d just witnessed a nice lesbian engagement so I was coming over to say congratulations,” Slater continued, but that was not the case. “It turns out it was her aunt and she was just trying to help her capture the beauty of the park…The next thing I knew we were hanging out in the Everglades.” And the rest is history!
