‘I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,’ frontman posts on Facebook. By James Montgomery Axl Rose Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Ever since Guns N’ Roses were announced as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees in December, speculation has swirled about just who from the band’s lengthy list of current (and former) members would show up at the ceremony. Well, now we know who won’t : mastermind Axl Rose, who announced Wednesday (April 11) that not only does he have no plans to attend Saturday’s induction ceremony in Cleveland, but he wants nothing to do with the Hall at all. “I won’t be attending … and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rose wrote in a Facebook message. “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized, nor may anyone be permitted, to accept my induction or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply, whether directly, indirectly, or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’ ” Rose added that his reasoning behind the message was “personal” and “neither meant to offend, attack or condemn” any GN’R members who decide to attend the induction. He also hinted that, since Guns were announced as inductees, he’d worked with Hall officials to find an appropriate solution to the very real problem of who would be inducted under the name of Guns N’ Roses, hoping to avoid “a complicated or awkward situation.” But, apparently, no solution could be reached. “I feel we’ve been polite, courteous and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out,” Rose wrote. “Taking into consideration the history of Guns N’ Roses, those who plan to attend, along with those the Hall — for reasons of their own — have chosen to include in ‘our’ induction … and how those involved with the Hall have handled things … [it] doesn’t appear to be somewhere I’m actually wanted or respected.” A spokesperson for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Rose also used his open letter to (once again) put to rest any and all speculation of burying the hatchet with former members — like guitarist Slash or drummer Steven Adler, to name a few — and launching a full-scale reunion tour, writing: “Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you our own personal happy ending, especially at another’s — or, in this case, several others’ — expense,” he wrote. “Maybe we can get the ‘no show, grandstanding, publicity stunt, disrespectful, he-doesn’t-dare-about-the-fans crap out of the way … no one’s taking the ball and going home. … From my perspective, in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball’s never been in our court. “In closing, regardless of this decision and as hard to believe or ironic as it may seem, I’d like to sincerely thank the [Rock Hall] board for their nomination and their votes for Guns’ induction,” he added. “More importantly, I’d like to thank the fans for being there over the years, making any success we’ve had possible and for enjoying and supporting Guns N’ Roses’ music. Zimmerman is now in custody after being charged with murder in the second degree in the Florida teen’s shooting death. By Rob Markman Trayvon Martin Photo: AP After months of public outcry, there was a major break Wednesday (April 11) in the tragic shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin : Triggerman George Zimmerman was charged with murder in the second degree. Special prosecutor Angela Corey announced the charges during a press conference in Jacksonville, Florida, just a half-hour after it was reported that Zimmerman turned himself in to authorities. Zimmerman was arrested and now is in an undisclosed location. Martin’s February 26 death sent shockwaves through the nation. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, saw 17-year-old Trayvon walking through his gated community in Sanford, Florida, and immediately grew suspicious of the teen, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. When Zimmerman called 911, police dispatchers advised him not to pursue Martin. By the time police arrived on the scene, Martin was shot dead and Zimmerman, who claimed self-defense, was not arrested or charged with a crime. Trayvon didn’t have a weapon. A week after the shooting, Sanford Police Chief Billy Lee said there was no evidence to dispute Zimmer’s self-defense claim and they couldn’t arrest Zimmerman because he was protected by the so-called “Stand Your Ground” law that allows Florida residents to shoot someone they reasonably believe is threatening them. According to reports, Zimmerman told police Martin punched him in the nose, knocked him down and repeatedly slammed his head into the ground. Since the shooting death, there has been public outrage. Demonstrators took to the streets , and on March 23, President Obama called for an investigation into the incident, saying, “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon.” The hip-hop community has been particularly vocal, calling for justice for the teen. ?uestlove, Game , Young Jeezy, Nas , Killer Mike and Prodigy all spoke out in protest, while rappers like Plies and Bad Boy’s Los made songs dedicated to Trayvon. The British imports will take their mop-top, sunny pop tunes all across our great land. Before they hit the road, MTV News caught up with the fivesome in New York City, where they performed on “Saturday Night Live.” The guys revealed some key British slang terms American girls might want to learn to impress them. To get you in-the-know before your next One Direction concert, the guys broke down key phrases to use in conversation: “Trousers” are pants, per the guys, and a “jumper” is a sweater, and therefore possibly a good thing to wear with trousers. Louis Tomlinson said “fit” is a key word to describe an attractive person, explaining, “If a girl’s fit, she’s hot.” One Directioners might use “fit” to describe the “blokes” in 1D: “He’s a nice bloke,” Liam Payne said of the term for a guy. On the other end of the spectrum, Harry Styles let us in on a word for a special lady and romantic interest. “Quite slangy,” Harry explained, “but if someone was your girlfriend, you’d be like, ‘That’s my bird.’ ” And, finally, “sithee” means “see ya” or “goodbye.” That will be perhaps the hardest thing a Directioner will say to one of the guys if they should meet them during their outing this year. The tour will kick off May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia, as part of a North American tour set to wrap up July 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops along the way including Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. They are also set to take the stage at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on December 3. Michigan Construction Sign Hacked, Vandal Posts Racial Slur About Trayvon Martin The ugly racial divide over the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has reared its head in Michigan. Motorists in Dearborn report seeing a racial slur on a construction sign along I-94 overnight. The digital roadside sign displayed the message: “Trayvon A N***er”, a reference to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen who police say was gunned down by a neighborhood watch volunteer in February. “The portable sign has a panel that was broken in to,” said MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi. “The message was changed and the keyboard was actually stolen.” FOX 2′s Amy Andrews reports the message was displayed for over an hour until workers were able to power down the sign. The pop star treated his girlfriend of over a year, Selena Gomez , to a romantic picnic in the park. The teen superstars decided to go for a low-key date, picking up Subway sandwiches and cuddling on a secluded hill in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park. This isn’t the first time the teen super stars’ dates have made headlines. Last year, Bieber rented out Staples Center for a private viewing of “Titanic.” Recently, Bieber revealed his secrets to a successful relationship. “To be a great boyfriend, you just have to have patience,” Bieber told E!
