The Real Housewives of Miami: Eager Beaver

The Real Housewives of Miami’s latest episode “Eager Beaver” has me convinced that the most annoying women involved in this franchise all live in Florida.  We recap all of the bitch slapping and back stabbing in our THG +/- review. Apparently it’s lets bitch about Karent night because everyone has something to say and admittedly, she’s pretty good at giving them ammunition. Karent is over the top.  She’s always a little too loud and too eager to jump into conversations that don’t involve her.  Minus 10.   But even with that, I can’t say she deserves the verbal beating Adriana is giving her behind her back.  Minus 12 When Adriana quips that Karent would show up to the opening of an envelope I had to laugh. Like Adriana wouldn’t?  All of these women are attention whores or they wouldn’t be on the show in the first place. Then she attacks Joanna when she doesn’t agree with her assessment.  “Haven’t you got the point yet,” she yells across the table. Minus 7 . Adriana needs to ease up on the righteous indignation.  It really doesn’t suit her, especially since she was actively flirting with Joanna’s fiance. Even Ana jumps in on the Karent bashing as she and her daughters stalk Karent’s Facebook page just to bash her and make fun of her boobs.  Ah, there’s family entertainment.  Minus 8. But neither Adriana or Ana can hold a candle to Lea Black.  Lea’s opening line is  “I really can’t deal with stupid.”  Well, damn.  Then her head must be a difficult place to be. When Marysol confides that her and her boyfriend broke up, Lea says, “I hope you laugh at this. He got his green card and left.”  Oh yeah. Who wouldn’t laugh at that.  Ugh. Minus 15 . Who would say something so hurtful as a joke, especially as Marysol is obviously still in pain over the split. But Lea’s all about what others can do for her.  She bashes Marysol but then eagerly invites her to her latest fundraiser.  She invites Joanna to the food tasting only because she wants her to buy a table at her gala for $12,500.   Every time Lea hits the screen I cringe…almost as much as I did when we met Thomas. Thomas is rich and sleazy so of course all of these women want to be his close, personal friend leading to Karent literally jumping into his lap.  Minus 9 . Even Elsa hits the dance floor with Thomas.  Apparently the freak show has begun. At least Joanna remains sober for this shin dig.  Plus 13 .  But she does get all teary eyed when her sister says Romain wants her to move out.  He’s tired of watching Marta laze around their home on their dime and who can blame him? But Joanna’s trying to make things work.  She heads to Ana’s for a cooking lessons and wears the naked man apron.  Minus 7. I’m guessing it was a present from Ana’s ex.   Ana tells her making risotto is easy.  I’m guessing she’s never watched chef Gordon Ramsey on Hell’s Kitchen.  He’s always complaining about everyone screwing up the risotto. At least Ana tells Joanna she thinks she’s making life too easy on Marta.  Plus 10 . The girl will never pull it together if her sister’s always there to foot the bill. Ana really needs to stop talking about Rodolfo.  Even if he is playing both sides, the way she obsesses about him makes her look bad. Lisa’s looking like the sanest one of the bunch.  Plus 15 .  The craziest thing she did all episode was don a string bikini to bathe her dogs.  I’m willing to cut her some slack on that one.  I’m guessing she doesn’t even own a one piece. So Lea thinks Adriana should bitch slap Karent.  I’m hoping someone would bitch slap both Lea and Adriana.  Honestly on this show, there’s equal opportunity.  I don’t mean to endorse violence but if they all slapped some sense into one another I wouldn’t mind a bit. Episode total = -30!                   Season total = -162!

My name is Talisa and I live in Brisbane QLD Australia. I love…

My name is Talisa and I live in Brisbane QLD Australia . I love Justin and I have ever since the beginning. When I found out he was coming to Australia on 15th of July, I just knew where ever he went in Australia, I had to go and try to meet him. Soon enough I found out he was going to Melbourne and Sydney, and my mum said I couldn’t fly to either places because we don’t have the money. I entered every competition day after day trying to win one so I could go, unfortunately I didn’t win any. Once Sunrise announced that they would have tickets I just hoped that I would get the chance to get tickets. I didn’t win the tickets to Sunrise but luckily me and my friend got some from someone else. After a lot of begging, my mum let me go down to Sydney for the concert and maybe even meet him. On 17th of July me and my friend go to leave for Sydney. We get to the airport to find out that our 11am flight has been cancelled and we won’t get another one until at least 2 maybe later. At about 4 we got told we can catch a plane right then, we ran from one side of the airport to just get on our plane. We got there and got ready for the Sunrise performance and started camping out at 8pm the night before, and even going that early there was at least 100 people there . At about 4.30am they told us to start getting packed up for the gates opening at 5. We got in and waited for hours for Justin to come. About 4 songs into the performance, I started to have a panic attack so I got taken out of the audience. Scrappy came over and got photos with a few people and we said hello to Alfredo, Kenny, Allison. After the concert we went to what we thought was Justin’s hotel and waited for hours. It was like a dream my inspiration was standing right there. Security wouldn’t let us in and would sue us if we got our cameras/phones out so we couldn’t get any photos with them. Justin came over and signed my phone case. I said I love you and he said I love you too. That was the most amazing moment of my life ever. 18th July 2012, at 1:30pm I met Justin Drew Bieber. Just a little bit after we went into the food court in the hotel and saw Scrappy and Dan. We got photos and talked to them for a bit. I couldn’t stop crying, it was the most amazing time of my life, thank you to Justin and his crew. Justin I love you so much you are my inspiration. Never say never and dream big. The Real Housewives of Miami Season Premiere Recap: A Tale of Two Miamis

The Real Housewives of Miami returned with a

Knifed Up! Bleached! Cakes Full Of Silicone! Self Hatin’ Models Across The Globe Are Doing Some Dumb Isht Trying To Fit The European Standard Of Beauty

This is downright sad… An eye-opening web series which explores the world of fashion outside New York, Paris, London and Milan is returning for a second season, and it uncovers the extreme measures models will go to just to participate. Travelling to Jamaica, Israel, South Korea and Uzbekistan, Vice magazine’s Fashion Week Internationale follows host Charlet Duboc as she investigates rampant plastic surgery, racial tensions and strange cultural phenomenons. Going behind the scenes, she uncovers the trend of models’ skin bleaching, as well as a popular eyelid surgery and their struggles with transgender modelling. In the first episode of the new season, Ms Duboc heads backstage during Rio fashion week, explores the catwalks amongst shanty towns, and investigate a dicey racial issue, an emerging trend of transgender supermodels. In another episode in Kingston Jamaica, one model says to Ms Duboc, ‘You may not be able to have your food, but you’ve got to have your skin bleaching,’ and in Seoul, she follows models as they undergo eye-lid surgery in an effort to adhere to an ‘ideal look’ of westerners. Last season saw Ms Duboc unearth the cultural dynamics of fashion weeks in places such as Nigeria, Colombia, and Pakistan, where she watched and filmed a model getting a butt cheek implant. Vice Global Editor Andy Capper added: ‘Our expertise is not really in haute couture or in fashion, but in finding human stories behind them and luring people in with a tag like “fashion.”‘ The series airs on Vice September 13, where they will move from Rio Fashion Week through to the Caribbean and finally Tel Aviv, the last episode which airs December 13. It’s not like any of this should come as a surprise but we wish that people would smarten up enough to stop slicing, dicing and bleaching themselves to live up to some standard of beauty that ain’t even all that most of the time. Chris Daughtry Shirtless Photo: Tweeted, Ripped!

Chris Daughtry Tweeted a shirtless photo of himself this week, and damn, this is one rock star who’s clearly been rocking it at the gym. It was long overdue, he says. The 32-year-old wrote, “Just left the gym! After 5 yrs of neglect, I’m PUMPED to see ABs again! Hard work and commitment is paying off!” It sure is: He added. “Since the Lifehouse tour in 2010, I’ve lost 23 pounds, but some of that was muscle. I had to refocus my food intake and mix up my routines.” “It wasn’t until a few months ago that I REALLY got serious and motivated,” said the father of three, explaining his drive. “Now there’s no going back!” And when one fan Tweeted about the rocker landing the cover of Men’s Health , the former American Idol star replied: “Hope so! Or Mens Fitness.” MH and MF are probably on the phone as we speak.

Jessica Ghawi, Dark Knight Rises Shooting Victim, Escaped Mall Shooting Last Month

Our thoughts and prayer go out to all victims of the senseless shooting inside a Colorado movie theater early this morning. But we take this time to recognize Jessica Ghawi, a 24-year old aspiring sportscaster who lost her life in the attack, because her tragic story is almost impossible to believe. Ghawi, who wrote a blog under the name Jessica Redfield, posted a recent entry in which she detailed just how fortunate she had been to narrowly escape a fatal mall shooting in Toronto last month that left one person dead and seven injured. “What started off as a trip to the mall to get sushi and shop, ended up as a day that has forever changed my life,” Ghawi wrote, explaining how a last-second decision to eat a different meal for dinner caused her to escape – by minutes – the gunman who opened fire in the food court she had planned to be in. “I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday,” Ghawi added. “I saw the terror on bystanders’ faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath. For one man, it was in the middle of a busy food court on a Saturday evening.” Tragically, incredibly, Ghawi ended up as one of the dozen people today who experienced the same tragic fate as that man in Toronto. We honor the memory her Jessica and the others who passed away with these words from her blog entry: “I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift.”

For Discussion: Should Gay Men Be Allowed To Donate Blood?

No blood donation for Frank Ocean ? The American Red Cross says power outages created by recent storms in the East and Midwest cut blood donations, which were already low this summer. In June there was a nationwide shortfall, with donations down more than 10% across the country. “We are asking people to please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit us at redcrossblood.org to find a way to donate if they can,” said Stephanie Millian, Red Cross director of biomedical communications. “We need people’s help.” One group that would like to help, but legally can’t, may be moving one step closer to eligibility. Since the 1980s, when the AIDS epidemic decimated their community, gay men — or MSMs (men who have sex with men) as they are called by federal agencies — have not been allowed to donate blood. In June, a group of 64 U.S. legislators led by Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Illinois, and Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services encouraging it to move forward with a study that may lead to the end of the decades-old ban. “We remain concerned that a blanket deferral of MSM for any length of time both perpetuates the unwarranted discrimination against the bisexual and gay community and prevents healthy men from donating blood without a definitive finding of added benefit to the safety of the blood supply,” the letter said. “This is a matter of life and death and we are turning away over 50,000 healthy men who want to donate blood,” Quigley told CNN. “A straight person who has unsafe sex with multiple partners can give blood, and that creates a greater risk than a gay person in a monogamous relationship.” The policy started at a time when people didn’t know how the deadly virus that causes AIDS spread. At the time, there wasn’t a good test to detect whether HIV was present in donated blood, and HIV was getting into the nation’s blood supply. They knew this because hemophiliacs who were getting blood transfusions started showing symptoms of AIDS. What scientists also knew was that a disproportionate number of gay men were affected by the virus. To eliminate risk, the Food and Drug Administration added a screening question to the federal guidelines. Blood banks were instructed to ask male donors if they had had sex with a man, even once, since 1977. The FDA regards 1977 as the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the United States. If the potential donor responded “yes,” he would automatically be removed from the donor pool for life. No similar questions were asked to screen out donors who engaged in other potentially risky sexual behavior. Donors weren’t asked about the number of partners they had, nor were they asked if their sexual partners had engaged in unprotected sex with other HIV positive partners. “While the Red Cross is obligated by law to follow the FDA guidelines, we continue to work with the AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks) to push through policies that would be much more fair and consistent among donors who engage in similar risk activities,” Millian said. Scientists can now screen for most instances of HIV within days of infection, and the nation’s blood banks have called a lifetime ban “medically and scientifically unwarranted.” Men who have sex with men still are disproportionately affected by the virus and account for nearly half the approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But it is a person’s behavior, not their sexual orientation, that puts them at risk say health experts. While he is a gay man, Adam Denney thinks he would be the perfect candidate to donate blood. He doesn’t use IV drugs. He practices safer sex. He even educates people on how to prevent new HIV infections as a regular volunteer educator with AIDS Volunteers Inc. in Lexington, Kentucky. He thinks his exclusion is unfair. “Yes, gay men are still a high-risk community, but so are minority women, and there are no standards prohibiting them from donating. There would be rightful outrage against that kind of blanket population ban,” Denney said. “I am banned based on one reason only, my sexual orientation. It’s totally discriminatory.” When Denney went to donate at a blood drive on the Eastern Kentucky University Campus a few years ago, he said he knew what likely would happen when the nurses asked the sexual history question. “I did know what I was getting into, but I was shocked by how it felt to be rejected,” he said. “It was almost like they thought I wasn’t important enough to give blood, like because I was gay I didn’t count. It was a horrible feeling.” Nathan Schaefer with GMHC, an AIDS service organization, said Denney normally would be the type of donor blood banks are hungry for. Studies show those who give blood when they are young become regular lifetime donors, something most blood banks are struggling to find these days. GMHC has been fighting to change the ban for years. In 2010 GMHC joined a coalition of other nonprofits to encourage Congress to send a letter to HHS to end the ban, which some members of congress did. In June of that year, HHS brought together an independent panel of experts. The Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability reviewed the policy and decided to keep it and concluded the ban was “suboptimal,” because it allows high-risk individuals to donate while keeping low-risk donors out. However, the expert committee also concluded “available scientific data are inadequate to support change to a specific alternate policy.” The panel suggested the policy not be changed and recommended further evaluation. HHS then promised to conduct feasibility studies to determine if there was a subset of the gay male population that would pose little or no threat to the blood supply. “We finally got them to stop defending the policy at the very least, which was pretty significant,” Schaefer said. The HHS is still determining the criteria for which part of the population to study. GMHC suggested the population to consider should include gay men who have had only one sex partner in the past six months. Spain and Italy, two countries with more progressive donor policies, hold everyone to that standard regardless of sexual orientation. Schaefer takes the point one step further. “A straight person could donate today after having unprotected sex with hundreds of partners, and in the United States they won’t ask about that behavior,” he said. He added that four out of five gay men are HIV negative, which he estimated means 2 million additional people could be blood donors. A 2010 study by the Williams Institute at the University of California-Los Angeles estimated that if gay men who had not had sexual contact for the past 12 months were allowed to donate blood, more than 53,000 additional men would likely make more than 89,000 blood donations. That number may seem small, but blood banks say it could help enormously, especially now, when blood supply shortages are common. After Denney was denied the chance to donate, he asked some of his friends to help him demonstrate outside the blood drive. They produced signs to raise awareness about the ban and distributed educational material. They also escorted people to the drive, because they wanted people to continue to donate. “A lot of people in the Bible Belt assume you have AIDS if you are a gay man,” he said. “We wanted them to understand that is not the case. We are banned based on an outdated policy. When people questioned us, I told them about how I always heard that people who donate blood are heroes. Gay men want to be heroes, too.” What do you think? Should this ban be lifted? Source
