Will Smith Wants To Run For Political Office In The “Near Future” It’s possible Kanye West may have some serious competition when he runs for president in 2020 because Will Smith’s looking to join him in the political arena. During a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter podcast, Big Willie revealed he has dreams to take his talents to Washington, DC because the political climate is so sh*tty, it literally keeps him up night. VIa The Hollywood Reporter : “America’s the only place on Earth that I could exist. No other country on Earth produces Will Smiths, you know?” He adds, “If you look back historically, of how black people have had it on the planet, America is elevating quite well, based on the history of our people.” That is not to say Smith is content with the state of affairs in America right now — in fact, he’s far from it. He catches me off-guard with his next declaration: “I’m a climber, so if I see a mountain, I have to climb it. I’m not a camper; I don’t like hanging in one place too long. So I think, at this point, I’m elevating my ability to be useful in the world. I think that that’s what my grandmother always hoped, that I would make myself useful to people in this lifetime. I’m working really hard and my storytelling is elevating, my ability to be eloquent with my body and with my voice and to deliver ideas as an actor is elevating. And, you know, as I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there. Chicago Police Make Arrest In Shooting Death Of 9-Year-Old Tyshawn Lee Police announced that they had made an arrest in the death of Tyshawn Lee , a 9-year-old whose alleged gang-related slaying spurred outrage in Chicago. Chicago police detectives made “an arrest in the unspeakable murder,” department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted early Friday. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the person arrested is the one who authorities believe opened fire on young Tyshawn or was involved in some other way. The boy was shot in the face and back on November 2 as he headed to a park down the street from his grandmother’s house to play basketball, the Rev. Michael Pfleger said at the funeral. He was “lured” into an alley in what Chicago police Superintendent Gerry McCarthy called “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime that I’ve witnessed in 35 years of policing.” “We’re pretty sure that this is not an accident,” McCarthy said, claiming that the boy was targeted because of his “family relationship with a member of a gang.” “He was not a bystander.” Chicago was called the murder capital of the United States after it registered 503 homicides in 2012, more than any other city. Those numbers have ticked down, though the FBI’s 2014 statistics showing 411 killings still outpaced other cities (such as New York with 333 and Los Angeles with 260) with higher populations. The Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, where gangs battle over turf and the right to sell drugs, and where Tyshawn was gunned down, is among the most dangerous. When will the Chicago violence end?!
More positivity from this prestigious HBCU … Morehouse President Announces #BlackLivesMatter Presidential Dialogue The President of Morehouse College is making national headlines for announcing a #BlackLivesMatter Presidential Dialogue. During the monthly discussion Dr. John Silvanus Wilson Jr. will meet with students to discuss topics including violence against black people and LGBTQA issues. Via Morehouse.edu: Morehouse President Dr. John Silvanus Wilson Jr. has established a monthly discussion group, the #BlackLivesMatter Presidential Dialogue, in response to student activism on the Atlanta University Center Campus. The president will be joined by students and faculty members from Morehouse, Spelman and Clark Atlanta University to talk about issues ranging from sexual assault across campuses, to violence against black people, to a more responsible embrace of the College’s LGBTQA students. “Simply, the design of the dialogue is to have an institutional space for activist talk and action where at the conclusion of each meeting, there will be a tangible action item employed that will demonstrate our community’s understanding of Black Lives Matter issues and needed solutions,’’ Wilson said. “At Morehouse, we want to get this right,” he told students during a discussion held at the Davidson House Center for Excellence, the president’s official residence. That initial discussion was the catalyst for the monthly dialogue, which officially begins in January 2016 and will continue to be hosted at the Davidson House. Lil Boosie Reveals He Has Kidney Cancer Rapper Lil Boosie posted some devastating news this morning on his Instagram account revealing that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The Louisiana rapper is asking all his fans to keep him lifted in prayer according to TMZ . We’re told Boosie’s team was not happy he revealed his condition … which is why the caption was deleted shortly after the initial posting. The photo of Boosie eating a meal remains on his IG. Boosie is only 33, but he’s been living with diabetes for years. He just got out of prison last year … after serving 5 years on a drug charge. RZA Says America Needs To Be More Open To Having A Female President During a recent interview with Rolling Stone , RZA voiced his staunch support for equality in politics when it comes to getting a woman into the White House as the President of the United States . “I would be onboard with [a female president] because I understand that the world has yin and yang, and that would be very interesting for our country in the sense of its history,” RZA says. “Seeing Barack Obama become president echoes the struggle for blacks to get out of slavery and then to see that somebody, 100-plus years later, can grow to be in that position. But even after slavery was abolished, women’s rights were still not and they still had to fight for the right to vote. Why not take it another step further and give a female a chance?” The rapper invoked the Declaration of Independence again when relaying his support for a female president. “When it says ‘All men are created equal,’ look at what that means: That means black men, brown men, red men, yellow men, white men, wo-men. She’s a form of a man as well,” RZA says. “Everybody starts off as that same cluster of cells, so I’m into that. I would support that.” The producer-rapper stopped short at endorsing Hillary Clinton or Carly Fiorina — “I haven’t read into [Hillary’s] policies and what she’s going to hook up” — but says that the impact of electing a female president would be as significant as Obama’s win.
