Frankenbrotha: Creating the Perfect Man

Ok, we know there’s no such thing as a “perfect” man. The beautiful eyes may come without the gorgeous smile. And the intellect may not always match the sense of humor. Check out our “Frankenbrotha” and let us know what we may have missed… Continued at MadameNoire.com

It’s 2011: Quit Waiting for Men to Approach You First

My mama is old-school with her courtship expectations. If ever a dude wanted to get on, he had to pursue and properly court her before anything jumped off. Yet sometime in the mid-aughts, shortly after the death of my grandmother, she decided to go against the grain of convention and semi-court her ballroom dance teacher. It was the first time in her more than 50 years of life that she’d approached anyone on her own volition. It all worked out and they’re now happily married. I realize this was a stretch for her considering her generational ideals, but I’m blown that, in 2011, many American women are still yoked to the antiquated tradition of waiting for dudes to pursue them. Even women who consider themselves otherwise “liberated” and dependent in any sense scoff at the idea that they would have to ask a n*gga for his digits. ( Continue reading… )

For The Ladies: How to Win an Argument with a Guy

Man, I hate arguing with my girl. The sh*t drives me up the wall. But when you put two relatively headstrong personalities together, arguments are as inevitable as Lebron James and failure. Seeing as how I’m still in the nascent stages of what I hope will be a long and fruitful union, I’m still figuring out how to properly navigate disagreements. Women can be complicated and all over the place. But I think winning or quelling an argument with a man is pretty easy: we’re simple creatures and our weaknesses are easily exploitable. Here’s a quick guide to five very unambiguous things you can do to come out on top in an argument.

Older Men Who Could Have Gotten It Back In The Day

When asked to come up with a list of much older men, still breathing, who were fine in their heyday, it was immediately clear that I couldn’t do it alone. I was interested to know who my mother, now in her ’60s, was checking for way back when during her camel and mash potato-dancing days. We went back and forth, me naming names I had only seen in blaxploitation films and on Motown infomercials that come on late at night. She of course shut many of them down. Laughing at my suggestions of the guys from “Cooley High” and debating with me about why O.J. Simpson automatically disqualified himself from the list. So after flipping through album sleeves, recalling every black television show from the past and going through a ton of Google image pages, here is a list of living actors, musicians, athletes and more who may not be your cup of tea now (probably because they could be your grandpappy), but had all your mommas and grandmamas, swooning. If you don’t agree with the choices, you’ll have to take your issues up with moms. ( Continue reading… )

It’s The Kang Homie! T.I. Releases New Letter He Wrote To His Fans In Prison

Clifford Harris puts the pen to the pad and flies a kite to his supporters. Imprisoned rapper T.I. released a message to his fans and supporters yesterday through his website trapmuzik.com. Read his message here: What up world? Been a minute. I’d like to thank you all for the thousands of letters, cards, books, pictures and words of encouragement. I’m truly grateful. I’m sure you already know I’m nearing the end of this chapter of my life, and looking forward to taking all of the things I’ve learned with me while leaving all the rest of the “BS” behind. I’ve been tuned in somewhat to what’s been happening out there. I can’t even begin to tell y’all how much being on the outside looking in, having to witness all that’s going on (and not going on) in the game affects me. Good to hear Mr. Harris, sounds like he’s eager to get back home and do right this time. Let’s pray he does just that. Are you looking forward to Tip’s return to the limelight? Question Of The Day: Would Being A Bachelorette Forever Really Be So Bad

My mother asked me the other day when I plan to get married. With a somewhat cynical snicker, I informed her that it’s not that easy to simply ‘plan’ when I would be getting married. Somewhat jokingly she added, ‘well, are you even going to get married?’ She laughed. I didn’t. Because suddenly reality set in. What if I never got married? Would my life really be that unfulfilling if I never pronounced those two words that suddenly made someone my lifelong partner? If it were that easy and we could all plan when and how we would get married, most of us would be walking down the aisle sometime in our near futures (for some tomorrow would be a preference); but if we chose to listen to the statistics that suggest black women and marriage are as scarce as black sitcoms on television, then many of our futures would be just the opposite. Still, for all of the millions of women who are discouraged by the stats, would being single forever really be such a curse? Who says never getting married has to be equivalent to a death sentence? The world is built around love. Even the most selfish, superficial people do things to gain acceptance or receive love. With that being said, who doesn’t want a significant other to love and feel that love in return? It’s only natural that humans, especially women, yearn for love and affection; but what happens if that love doesn’t come in the package of a man (preferably an Idris Elba) ready to sweep you off your feet? Would you be just as satisfied receiving love from other sources? Continued at MadameNoire.com

Showing up on the big stage is tough for stars to do day in and day night. Even if they are exceptional 99 percent of the time, coming up short in the clutch can tarnish a legacy. Here are some stars that have had difficulty during specific clutch moments.
