Judy Eddy/WENN.com Meek Mill To Be Honored By Inaugural R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Award Billboard is throwing the first ever installment of a new awards show they have dubbed R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players. The show will air on Thursday, September 27 and has announced that the event’s marquee moment will be Meek Mill receiving the first ever “Power Players Impact Award.” CNN’s Van Jones will be the one to present Meek his award. Billboard reports that they are hoping to recognize the “strength [Meek] has demonstrated in the face of America’s criminal justice system, the light he has shined on the country’s need for justice reform and his constant creative output.” Back in April, the Philly rapper was released from Pennsylvania state prison on bail after he was sentenced last November to two to four years in prison. The rapper is still fighting the probation violation charge that prompted the sentence, which was issued on the basis that he was arrested earlier last year, once for reckless driving and once for fighting at an airport, although both charges ended up being subsequently dropped. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered Mill’s release amid a contentious legal battle, in which the rapper’s lawyers argued that his judge was biased. Beyond that, his original arresting officer, who was the sole witness in the 2008 trial for drug and firearm charges that later resulted in Meek’s probation, was banned from witness stands by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office due to a history of “lying, racial bias, or brutality.” In the few months since Meek’s release, the Roc Nation rapper has been a very outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform. In addition to public comments, he formed a reform awareness foundation with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and partnered with Jay-Z to create a docu-series about about the criminal justice system. Congrats to Meek on the upcoming award.

Getty Images Airplane Passengers Suffer Injuries From Pilot Mistake Some very unlucky passengers on a flight recently began bleeding from their noses and ears when a pilot “forgot” to flick a switch regulating cabin pressure, according to reports. Jet Airways Flight 9W 697 from Mumbai to Jaipur was forced to turn around and go back shortly after takeoff on Thursday, when the airplane completely lost pressure, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported. The video from inside the eerily calm cabin shows the oxygen masks being deployed and passengers slowly putting them on. Another added, “Scores of passengers including me bleeding from nose… no staff to help… no announcement on board to wear the oxygen mask. Passenger safety completely ignored.” More than 30 of the 166 passengers on board suffered bleeding and headaches, and had to be treated when the flight landed back at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, according to a statement by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Larit Gupta, a senior official with the department, told the Hindustan Times newspaper that the crew had forgotten to activate a switch to maintain cabin pressure. It seems like there are new reports of suspicious or dangerous plane activity nearly every day, so unfortunately, this is nothing new. Most recently, celebrities including Post Malone and Ray J. and Princess have been forced to take emergency landings on their private planes due to unsafe situations up in the air. In other celebrity flight news, Ty Dolla $ign was being put on all types of blast when he reportedly caused a ruckus on his flight over a dog allergy. But celebrities aren’t the only ones experiencing this airline debacles–one fan recently stole a plane in an attempt to fly himself to the Beyonce & Jay Z On The Run II Tour , which didn’t go as planned. If there’s one thing we can count on in this world, it’s plane mishaps.
