Megan Fox Wants To Play Native American Lesbian Superhero Rainmaker

‘Jonah Hex’ star would love to star in adaptation of ‘Gen 13’ comic book series. By Jocelyn Vena Megan Fox Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ Getty Images Though Megan Fox’s turn as a gun-toting prostitute in the adaptation of comic book “Jonah Hex” failed to make an impression at the box office, the actress said she would like to have another go at the comic book genre. “I don’t want people to protest this, but I would like to be [Sarah] Rainmaker in ‘Gen 13’ if they ever made that into a movie,” she told Fox News . “Gen 13” is about a group of teens who escape from a government training facility after they realize they’re being kept there to test their superhuman powers. Rainmaker is an Apache superhero who has the power to manipulate the weather using her thoughts. She also is skilled in all things combat. Despite that aptitude, she is a pacifist, unless she has to fight off evil villains. “I grew up reading ‘Gen 13,’ ” Fox told MTV News last year, but more recently, she clarified that she’s not an expert in the genre. “I have some knowledge, but I’m not a hard-core nerd. Unfortunately, I would like to be, but I just don’t have the knowledge.” But speaking to Fox News, she was confident in her ability to play Rainmaker. “She’s a Native American, and I have a little bit of that blood in me,” Fox said of the role. “It would be a bit of a stretch — but if Jake Gyllenhaal can be the Prince of Persia, I think that I can do that.” As for the combat part, she luckily had to learn those skills for “Jonah Hex.” “The best part was the guns, because I’ve never done that before so that was a completely new challenge, and there was really not a ‘worst part,’ ” Fox explained. “If I had to pick, I guess I would say the corset, but I personally enjoyed that, and it’s just hard to kick ass when you’re laced up in something like that.” Would you like to see Megan Fox in the role of Rainmaker? Michael Jackson Fans Face Tight Restrictions At Forest Lawn Cemetery

Fans can’t camp out, get near mausoleum or release doves on Friday’s anniversary of Jackson’s death. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson Photo: Getty Images With Friday’s one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death fast approaching, fans from around the world are, no doubt, working on their plans for honoring the late King of Pop. One logical place for those supporters to gather is Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California, where Jackson is interred in the Great Mausoleum. But despite reports last month that fans were expected to have limited access to Forest Lawn on Friday, according to TMZ , officials are putting a number of conditions on anyone planning to attend the event. A rep for Forest Lawn told the site that attendees will be allowed to enter the park on Friday, but, as expected, they will not be allowed anywhere near the mausoleum, the final resting place for a number of Hollywood legends, including Clark Gable, Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow. As for the special requests made by fans hoping to honor Jackson’s memory — including the releasing of balloons or doves, or holding performances of Jackson’s songs and dance routines — the rep said they too were mostly denied. A spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department said that fans will not be allowed to camp out or park around Forest Lawn 24 hours in advance of the anniversary, and no street vendors can set up booths hawking MJ merchandise near the cemetery. The past year has contained plenty of other tributes to Jackson , from superstar DJ mixtapes to a recently announced plan for a $300 million museum and performance complex in the singer’s hometown of Gary, Indiana. Jackson died on June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at his rented Hollywood mansion. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled that the 50-year-old singer died of “acute propofol intoxication” in combination with the use of sedatives. Authorities have claimed that his personal physician, cardiologist Conrad Murray, administered a lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic to chronic insomniac Jackson in an attempt to help him get to sleep. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in February in connection with Jackson’s death and has pleaded not guilty in the case. The doctor is out on $75,000 bail and faces up to four years in prison if convicted. Celebrate Michael Jackson ‘s legacy all week long as MTV News looks back at his life, his music and the death that shook the world one year ago. ‘World’s Biggest’ Forest Protection Deal for Canada

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10123210.stm Timber companies and environment groups including Greenpeace, Canopy, and ForestEthics have unveiled an agreement aimed at protecting two-thirds of Canada's vast forests from unsustainable logging. Over 72 million hectares are included in what will become the world's largest commercial forest conservation deal. Logging will be totally banned on some of the land, in the hope of sustaining endangered caribou populations. Timber companies hope the deal will bring commercial gains, as timber buyers seek higher ethical standards. The total protected area is about twice the size of Germany, and equals the area of forest lost globally between 1990 and 2005. “The importance of this agreement cannot be overstated,” said Avrim Lazar, president and CEO of the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC). “We're thrilled that this effort has led to the largest commercial forest conservation plan in history,” said Steve Kallick of Pew Environment Group. “Together we have identified a more intelligent, productive way to manage economic and environmental challenges in the Boreal [Forest] that will reassure global buyers of our products' sustainability.” The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement (CBFA) brings together FPAC's 21 member companies and nine environment groups, many of which have fought a bitter battle against what they have sometimes criticised as rapacious logging. As part of the agreement, those groups have agreed to suspend criticism of the industry and calls for boycotts. The Pew Environment Group, which has worked for about a decade on trying to “green” Canada's forestry, said it was “excited” by the agreement. “We're thrilled that this effort has led to the largest commercial forest conservation plan in history, which could not have happened without both sides looking beyond their differences,” said Steve Kallick, director of Pew's International Boreal Conservation Campaign. Pew notes that the total area covered by the deal is larger than in some agreements currently feted as global leaders, such as the Brazilian Amazon Region Protected Areas project. Throughout the protected lands – which run right across the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts – companies and environment groups are pledging to work together to implement “world-leading forest management and harvesting practices”. The effects of forest protection on wildlife, particularly caribou, will be monitored; and timber will be certified as coming from sustainable sources. Pew believes the agreement could be a template for future forest agreements in other parts of the world, as industry leaders respond to an increasingly environmentally-aware public. “There is a recognition that this is how forestry will be done in the 21st Century, and there's a great interest in getting ahead of the rest of the industry,” Mr Kallick told BBC News. The agreement at present covers companies and environment groups; both parties are looking now for backing and reinforcement from governments. In the Canadian system that means the national and provincial authorities, and “First Nation” governments of indigenous groups, some of which have already indicated their support. added by: captainplanet71

Victory for Rainforests! Nestle Agrees to Activists’ Demands!

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-20005101-36.html Sometimes these things might actually work: An aggressive, meant-to-shock Facebook and YouTube campaign on behalf of environmental group Greenpeace has caused food conglomerate Nestle to modify its policies regarding the use of palm oil. IN THE PHOTO: An activist wearing an orangutan mask protesting at Nestle’s Jakarta offices. Nestle dropped Sinar Mas as a supplier amid Greenpeace accusations that the palm oil producer was contributing to deforestation. (EPA Photo) Nestle announced early on Monday that it has partnered with The Forest Trust, a non-profit group that helps businesses develop practices that harvest forests sustainably, to tackle the social and environmental impacts of its corporate supply chain by severing ties to companies that contribute to deforestation. The first issue addressed will be its use of palm oil–the harvesting of which has been connected to the loss of rainforests and the animal species that inhabit them, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Greenpeace considers this a major victory: Two months ago, the environmental group targeted Nestle's use of palm oil with a purposely unsettling video that compared eating Kit-Kat bars to snacking on the bloodied appendages of orangutans. When Nestle lobbied to have the video removed from YouTube, Greenpeace turned its force up a notch and encouraged supporters to start posting comments in protest on Nestle's Facebook fan page and to change their profile photos to modified versions of the Nestle logo (i.e. “Killer” instead of Kit-Kat”). The whole thing turned into a particularly ugly social-media mess for Nestle when the manager of the Facebook fan page started getting argumentative and rude. The commenters grew even more vocal, even after the page manager apologized. Nestle's Monday announcement makes no mention of the digital smackdown that pressured it into making this change, but Greenpeace has been quick to highlight the role of social media as well as more traditional forms of grassroots lobbying. “With nearly 1.5 million views of our Kit Kat advert, over 200,000 emails sent, hundreds of phone calls and countless Facebook comments, you made it clear to Nestle that it had to address the problems with the palm oil and paper products it buys,” read a Monday release from Greenpeace's U.K. division. “Greenpeace campaigners have met several times with Nestle executives to discuss the problems with sourcing of palm oil and paper products. It certainly seemed like things were moving forward in these discussions. But we didn't expect Nestle to come up with such a comprehensive 'zero deforestation' policy so quickly.” Nestle says it had already set a goal to make its palm oil products 100 percent sustainable by 2015. Right now, it's at 18 percent. So is its partnership with The Forest Trust any more than just posturing? Greenpeace is optimistic. The Forest Trust is “an independent organization we've worked with before (and) will be closely monitoring Nestle's progress,” the release from Greenpeace read. added by: captainplanet71
