Schultz Says Breitbart ‘Nutjob, Makes Me Sick’ But Whines Won’t Come On Show

Hey, it’s been a long day with all this Sherrod stuff.  So let’s kick back and enjoy some—unintentional—humor, courtesy Ed Schultz.  On his MSNBC show this evening, Ed advised Dems not to go on Fox News because they’ll “beat you up.”  Schultz then unleashed a torrent of venom on Andrew Breitbart, saying among—many—other things that Breitbart is a “nutjob” who “makes me sick.” But Schultz began the show by whining because—ready?—Breitbart wouldn’t come on Ed’s show. Sit back and enjoy the video as Ed twists himself into a logical pretzel. ED SCHULTZ: I want to know why any Democrat in the Congress, any Democrat in the Senate, any Democrat anywhere: why do you even go on those shows over there [at Fox News].  They won’t tell the truth. They beat you up. What do you gain? . . . Andrew Breitbart, right-wing nut job. Well this guy makes me sick.  He’s an absolute pro at hatchet jobs. But here’s Ed during the show-opener . . . SCHULTZ: This Breitbart is a master at trying to destroy people professionally.  He’s a right=winger, he has an agenda, no doubt about it.  I saw him today in the hallway today at MSNBC, asked him to be on this program tonight.  He’s too tired. And he doesn’t know about tomorrow. This is how hate merchants operate.

Open Thread: President Obama Has Trust Issues

The President recently chided Republicans for their alleged lack of trust in the American people. But who really has the trust issues, wonders David Harsanyi . Was it the administration’s faith in the wisdom of the American parent that persuaded it to shut down the voucher program in Washington, D.C., and continue the left’s decades- long campaign denying school choice for kids and parents? Or was that just faith in public-sector unions? Was faith in American industry behind the Democrats’ support of a stimulus bill that was almost entirely predicated on preserving swollen government spending at the expense of private-sector growth? Is this hallowed faith in the citizenry also what compels the administration to dictate what kind of car we will be driving in the future, what kind of energy we will be filling these “cars” with and what amounts of that energy will be acceptable? Is faith in American know-how why Washington funnels billions of tax dollars each year to its handpicked industry favorites rather than allowing the best and brightest to — please pardon the pun — organically figure out what the most sensible energy policy is, as we have in every other sector? Make sure you follow the link for much, much more. Then return and tell us your thoughts.

Disgraced USDA Official Blames Fox News and Tea Party For Her Dismissal

The USDA employee that was forced to resign Monday as a result of racist comments she made at an NAACP gathering in March has blamed Fox News and the Tea Party for her inability to convince her employers of her innocence. As NewsBusters reported Tuesday, Shirley Sherrod, the USDA’s Rural Development director for the state of Georgia, delivered a racism-laden address at the NAACP’s 20th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet back on March 27. On CNN’s “American Morning” Tuesday, after Sherrod said that the video published by Big Government didn’t accurately depict what really happened, host John Roberts asked, “When the U.S. Department of Agriculture came to you and said you have to step down, why didn’t you just say, wait a minute, you don’t know the full story?” Sherrod amazingly answered, “I did say that, but they, for some reason, the stuff that Fox and the Tea Party does is scaring the administration” (video follows with transcript and commentary): JOHN ROBERTS: Just a little while ago, we’re telling you the story of Shirley Sherrod, the U.S. Department of Agriculture official from Georgia who resigned after charges that she made racist comments before the NAACP because she said she wouldn’t help a farmer because he was white. That was one side of the story. We got the other side of the story from Shirley Sherrod coming up right after the break. She says it’s nothing of what people are saying it was. So, let’s hear from her coming right up. Fifty minutes after the hour. (COMMERCIAL BREAK) ROBERTS: The U.S. Department of Agriculture accepts the resignation of an employee after a video surfaced showing her telling an audience that she withheld assistance to a white farmer because of his race. Let’s listen to what she told the NAACP. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) SHIRLEY SHERROD, FMR. USDA WORKER: I was struggling with the fact that so many black people had lost their farm land. And here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land. So, I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough. (END VIDEO CLIP) KIRAN CHETRY: Does that video tell the whole story? Joining us now on the phone from Albany, Georgia is Shirley Sherrod, herself. Thanks for being with us this morning, Shirley. SHERROD: Thank you. CHETRY: You say that this was part of the story and that it was part that was spliced enough to show you in a bad light, that this isn’t the whole story. Will you finish for us how this ended? SHERROD: OK. I was speaking to that group like I’ve done many groups, and I tell them about a time when I thought the issue was race and race only. And I tell them the story of how I’ve worked with a white farmer back in 1986. I was not working for the Department of Agriculture. I was working with a non-profit organization assisting farmers throughout South Georgia and the Southeast. And this farmer came to me for help. I was telling the story about how working with him helped me to see that the issue is not about race, it’s about those who have versus those who do not have. And I tell how I took him to a lawyer who I thought would help him. In the end, that lawyer didn’t. In the end, I had to frantically look for a lawyer because when USDA lifted — I’m sorry. When the court lifted the injunction against USDA in May of 1987, this white farmer was one of 13 that was foreclosed on by the state of Georgia. I had to frantically find a lawyer who would file a chapter 11 to stop the foreclosure. He couldn’t — at that time, we had up to 12. CHETRY: Yes. But let me just get back really quickly, you said you didn’t give them the full force of what you could do. You said you did enough, and then you referred to the race (ph) of the lawyer as well saying that perhaps because the lawyer was white, that he would help him. So, what did you mean by that? SHERROD: What I meant was, I didn’t know anyone else, but it thought taking — I didn’t know another lawyer at that time who was local, who knew something about chapter 12. But I thought if I took him to a white lawyer, he would definitely do all that he could to help save his farm. ROBERTS: Miss Sherrod, let’s make it clear though, that this happened 24 years ago. You eventually worked with this white farmer. You eventually became friends, you say, with the farmer and his wife. SHERROD: Yes. ROBERTS: So, the question I have is, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture came to you and said you have to step down, why didn’t you just say, wait a minute, you don’t know the full story. Here’s the full story, why should I step down? SHERROD: I did say that, but they, for some reason, the stuff that Fox and the Tea Party does is scaring the administration. I told them get the whole tape and look at the whole tape and look at how I tell people we have to get beyond race and start working together. ROBERTS: Many people at home might be thinking if you’re recounting an old story, why did you succumb to pressure to step down, why didn’t you fight this? SHERROD: If I tried to fight it and didn’t have any support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, what would I do? CHETRY: Let me ask you this. Did you talk to the NAACP about it because I just want to read from our audience what Ben Jealous, the president said. He said referring to you and this surfacing of the tape, “her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story, she ultimately realized her mistake as well as the common predicament of working people of all races. She gave no indication she’d attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man. And the reaction from many in the audience is disturbing.” This is from Ben Jealous. Did you try to clarify with the NAACP your story? SHERROD: No, I haven’t had had a chance to talk to anyone. All of this was happening so fast. And it’s unfortunate that the NAACP would make a statement without even checking to see what happened. This was 24 years ago, and I’m telling a story to try to unite people with that now. ROBERTS: Certainly, you’re coming out and telling your story now takes it to a different level, and obviously, we’re going to keep following this. It’s good to get your side of it. Sherri Sherrod, former Agriculture Department official. Thanks for joining us this morning. And perhaps, we can get you back on again, get your face on TV as well and talk to you more about this as the story continues to develop. SHERROD: I don’t mind. ROBERTS: All right. Thanks so much. CHETRY: Thanks a lot. So let’s get this straight: her employers at the USDA don’t believe her story and NEITHER does the NAACP. But didn’t you get the sense Chetry and Roberts did and were quite sympathetic?  For the record, here’s Monday’s press release from the NAACP: (BALTIMORE, MD) NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous issued the following statement today after learning of the resignation of Shirley Sherrod of the United States Department of Agriculture: “Since our founding in 1909, the NAACP has been a multi-racial, multi-faith organization that– while generally rooted in African American communities– fights to end racial discrimination against all Americans. We concur with US Agriculture Secretary Vilsack in accepting the resignation of Shirley Sherrod for her remarks at a local NAACP Freedom Fund banquet. Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race. We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers. Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man. The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action. We thank those who brought this to our national office’s attention, as there are hundreds of local fundraising dinners each year. Sherrod’s behavior is even more intolerable in light of the US Department of Agriculture’s well documented history of denying opportunities to African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American farmers, as well as female farmers of all races. Currently, justice for many of these farmers is being held up by Congress. We would hope all who share our outrage at Sherrod’s statements would join us in pushing for these cases to be remedied. The NAACP will continue to advance the ideals of America and fight for freedom, justice and fairness for all Americans.” Regardless of the conclusions made by the USDA and the NAACP, is the media template going to be that Sherrod’s actions took place 24 years ago, and she was wrongfully forced to resign as a result of pressure from Fox News and the Tea Party? Will Sherrod be made out as the victim by a sympathetic press? Stay tuned.

Shocker: Geraldo Takes Stand Against Black Panther Leader Over Slave Reparations

Surprises come unexpectedly sometimes. On Fox News Channel’s July 11 broadcast of “Geraldo at Large,” an aggressive host Geraldo Rivera took on chairman of the New Black Panthers, Malik Zulu Shabazz over his political stands. “It is absolutely pathetic, it is so old-fashioned,” Rivera said. “What are you trying to do? Are you trying to be the big, bad nightmare?” Shabazz, leader of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP) rattled off one of his causes, Oscar Grant, but he leveraged him to make a case for reparations. “I’m trying to help Oscar Grant , who was shot down in cold blood by a white cop and I am trying to redeem, I am trying to redeem – put that camera back right over here, I am trying to redeem — and black people who have been lynched, raped or mobbed and have not been given reparations.” Rivera responded to his call. “You insult her memory when you engage in your hateful rhetoric,” Rivera said.  “I think that reparations is just like these welfare programs that have turned a generation into nothing but unproductive people.”

MRC-TV: Bozell Discusses Obama’s NASA Chief on ‘Fox & Friends’

“You would think that if you are NASA, your mandate is return us to the moon, take us to Mars…. No, according to the President of the United States, the mandate of NASA is to make Muslim people feel better about themselves,” NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell quipped this morning on “Fox & Friends.” The Media Research Center founder was referring to the under-reported story of how NASA administrator Charles Bolden told Arab news network al-Jazeera in an interview that President Obama had tasked him with outreach to the Muslim world to “find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.” “We have to hitch a ride with the Russians if we want to go to outer space, but the mandate of NASA is to make Muslims feel better about themselves. You figure that one out,” Bozell complained, adding, “You’d think that might be a news story.” For the full “Fox & Friends” appearance, click here for MP3 or here for WMV video , or watch the embedded video above at right.

ABCBSNBC Lost One Million Viewers Last Quarter

The big three nightly news broadcasts, NBC Nightly, CBS Evening and ABC World, lost a combined one million viewers in the second quarter of 2010, according to TVNewser. These numbers are comparable to the first quarter , which saw Evening News and World News get their lowest average viewers ever, while NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage helped it get their highest average viewers since 2005. In the second quarter, NBC lost 440,000 viewers, ABC 260,000 and CBS 340,000. It was about this time last year that ABC and CBS’ news programs had their lowest ratings ever. These numbers are not at all surprising in light of the public’s continued distrust of the old media. As Newsbusters’ Rich Noyes wrote of a Rasmussen poll released earlier this month, “Perhaps as a result, the poll finds an astonishing two-thirds of the public (66 percent) say they are angry with the media, ‘including 33 percent who are very angry’ with the press.” Polls going back to 1997 displayed a continued public distrust with the news media. In a Pew survey , 54 percent of Americans believed that the news media “gets in the way of society solving its problems.” In 2006 a CBS poll showed 36 percent of adults had very little confidence in the news media. There is also an expanding array of media options, both on the air and online. Not only can many of the evening news programs be found online shortly after broadcast, but 24 hour news channels allow one to get the content of the nightly news well before the program is on, to say nothing of multimedia sites such as Huffington Post, Brietbart and others which allow consumers access to a lot of news and opinion. TVNewser also reports that the 24 hour channels are also losing viewers, though not at the same rate as evening news programs. ( Here , here and here .)

HuffPo Writer Also Wants to Eradicate Limbaugh, Beck, and O’Reilly

Huffington Post blogger, Frank Schaeffer, has been trying to eradicate elements of the right for quite some time.  Katie Bell had a great post on Monday covering his recent call to ‘eradicate’ fundamental Christianity.  It’s no secret that Schaeffer is very critical of religious elements in society.  But on a side note, were you aware that he is a former member of the religious right?  Apparently making mention of such information gives him street cred with the non-religious left.  He mentions it nearly every time he opens his mouth .   Take a drink every time Schaeffer mentions his past participation in the religious right, and you’re sure to be hammered in no time. Not content with attacking the religious right, Schaeffer has also made a career of attacking the conservative voice in general.  Last year, he penned a column so bereft of facts that even the Huffington Post should have been embarrassed by the content.  More troublesome is that this particular post included the pronouncement of a new Web site campaign that is wrong on two fronts:  It incorrectly predicts the rise of violence perpetrated by the ‘far right’ (anyone who dares to oppose Barack Obama), and it specifically labels conservative talk show hosts Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck as ‘domestic terrorists’. Schaeffer states in his October 5th, 2009 column that, “The extremism and paranoid delusions of the far, far loony right — in other words The Republican Party today as led and deformed by Beck/Limbaugh/Fox and the fundamentalist “Christians” — is now on full display.” He goes on to say, “Now some of us … are organizing to do something about this evil (yes I use that word deliberately) trend.  We’re doing this because more and more of us see that if unchecked the inflammatory garbage spewing from the Right’s hate machines will result in tragedy — in other words violence.” And with that came the announcement that he was endorsing a new Web site known as StopDomesticTerror.com .  The site sports a prominent home page banner that features the likes of Scott Roeder (George Tiller’s murderer), and James von Brunn (Holocaust Museum gunman).  Shockingly however, there are also images of O’Reilly, Beck, and Limbaugh alongside these murderers.  The implication being that conservative talk show hosts are as culpable in these attacks as the men who actually pulled the trigger. Schaeffer’s main contribution to the Web site is a letter penned to Attorney General Eric Holder.  While Holder doesn’t feel the need to read such major things as say, a law he plans to challenge , it is very unlikely he found time to delve into Schaeffer’s letter.  As such, we outline some key excerpts for Mr. Holder. The letter starts with, “I am a former leader in the religious right movement…”  No surprise there.  One has to wonder if he can legally change his name to that statement. “…and am writing to request a meeting with you or other top officials of the Department of Justice to discuss what I believe is an escalating threat of hate crimes and domestic terrorism. I am deeply concerned that we are facing a period like that before 9/11 where warnings were ignored or brushed aside for various unacceptable reasons.” Based on his column which specifically mentions the hate speech of O’Reilly, Limbaugh, and Beck, along with the fact that their images are plastered onto the homepage, one can only surmise that this statement makes a definitive comparison between the conservative talk show hosts and the 9/11 hijackers. Schaeffer then takes a swipe at the oh-so-threatening Town Hall protestors saying, “…angry demonstrators fueled by racism and hate speech have been directed to physically disrupt town hall meetings wearing “body armor” and “packing heat.” The letter wraps up with, “I would also like to share my ideas of how to reach out to the right wing media that foments this hate speech so they understand that such speech pushes some people to commit violence.” While Schaeffer is quick to note that this last statement should not be construed as a war on Fox News, he is contradicted by the site’s ‘action items’ which state:  We will ask companies to stop advertising on extremist media outlets such as Bill O’Reilly’s FOX TV show and Rush Limbaugh’s radio show because of their lies, incitement and racism. We will insist that ‘shock jocks’ stop targeting people with racist and violent hate speech designed to incite violence against others. Send a note to FOX advertisers to stop ads on Glenn Beck’s show, http://www.colorofchange.org/beck Of course, the Color of Change organization was co-founded by Beck’s good friend, Van Jones , so their credibility, much like that of their founder, is almost certainly non-existent. Every tragedy that the liberal left is able to exploit, they do so without concern for facts and logic.  It has been repeated over and again with: The aforementioned George Tiller murder. The IRS plane attack by Joseph Stack. The University of Alabama shooting spree. The Binghamton Immigration center shooting spree. The disproved murder of Census worker Bill Sparkman. Point being, this has and always will be a staple of the liberal left.  Schaeffer is no different.  With his recent rant on the ‘eradication’ of fundamental Christianity , has Schaeffer actually exposed himself?  By his own definition and understanding of how words can incite violence, has his call to eradicate fundamentalism identified him as a domestic terrorist? Only a former member of the religious right would know for sure… What say you, Mr. Schaeffer? – Send comments or tips to rustyweiss@verizon.net . Please join me on Facebook. Kathy Griffin Cracks About Wasilla & Crystal Meth, Fights w/ Mom Who Loves Palin, O’Reilly, FNC

Appearing as a guest on Tuesday’s The View on ABC to promote her show on Bravo! – Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List – left-wing comedian Kathy Griffin took a shot at Sarah Palin by recalling her visit to Wasilla, Alaska – where Palin was once mayor – and by mocking the town by linking it to crystal meth: “I wanted to, you know, see what it’s really like because when Sarah Palin was telling us that she should run the whole country the way she runs Wasilla, I just had to go for myself. And if you like crystal meth, you’re gonna like Wasilla.” Griffin went on to admit that her mother – who sometimes takes part in her show on Bravo!, is a fan of Palin, Bill O’Reilly and Fox News. Griffin: “My mother, of course, loves her, and my mother loves Fox News and she loves Bill O’Reilly, and we get into big fights about it. She calls Bill O’Reilly her boyfriend because she’s crazy.” She then imitated her mother: “‘Stop being so hard on my boyfriend, Bill O’Reilly, Kathleen, for crying out loud. He’s Irish, for crying out loud.’ She loves Bill O’Reilly.” Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Tuesday, June 15, The View on ABC: KATHY GRIFFIN: I actually went to Wasilla, Alaska, because I played in Anchorage- KASSIE DEPAIVA, GUEST CO-HOST: Who lives there? GRIFFIN: My lover, Levi Johnston. Why? (AUDIENCE LAUGHTER) Are you suggesting that’s a relationship based on publicity? DEPAIVA: I’m not sure. I want you to tell me. GRIFFIN: All right, there’s a little age difference because, you know, he’s 19 and I’m 25 and a half. But, yes, I went to Wasilla, or “The Silla,” as he calls it, and I wanted to, you know, see what it’s really like because when Sarah Palin was telling us that she should run the whole country the way she runs Wasilla, I just had to go for myself. And if you like crystal meth, you’re gonna like Wasilla. … JOY BEHAR: I don’t think she likes you. GRIFFIN: I don’t think she’s a fan, although I did- DEPAIVA: You don’t know? Unlike your mother. GRIFFIN: You never know. She probably would like my mother. My mother, of course, loves her, and my mother loves Fox News and she loves Bill O’Reilly, and we get into big fights about it. She calls Bill O’Reilly her boyfriend because she’s crazy. (AUDIENCE LAUGHTER) SHERRI SHEPHERD: So, speaking of, when you say, going back to the Sarah Palin not liking you- GRIFFIN, IMITATING HER MOTHER: “Stop being so hard on my boyfriend, Bill O’Reilly, Kathleen, for crying out loud. He’s Irish, for crying out loud.” She loves Bill O’Reilly. BEHAR: Because he’s Irish. GRIFFIN: Yeah, but also she’s crazy.

Newsweek Takes Another Shot at Palin on Cover: ‘Saint Sarah’; Palin Responds, Answers Breast Implant Charge

Not this again. There is obviously not enough going on in the world for Newsweek magazine this week because once again Sarah Palin is on the cover. Palin, the former governor of Alaska and the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee was also on the cover of Newsweek back in November 2009 , in running shorts. This time she is featured as “Saint Sarah: What’s Palin’s appeal to conservative Christian women says about feminism and the future of the religious right” in Newsweek’s June 21 issue. Palin is depicted with halo on the cover for the story written by Lisa Miller , which attempts to rationalize Palin’s convictions about the issue of abortion and her Christian faith. However, Palin didn’t think too highly of Newsweek’s gesture. She responded on Fox News’ June 11 broadcast of “On the Record with Greta van Sustren.” “Haven’t seen it, but if the title and what I hear about the content is any indication of where Newsweek is going, it is no wonder Newsweek is doing so poorly,” Palin said. “People are not reading that stuff. It is not relevant. It’s not interesting stuff that they are making up and writing and that’s why they are going down.” Video Below Fold Another incredible charge that has surfaced in left-wing media outlets as of late was that Palin had gotten breast implants . Palin responded to host Greta van Sustren, but not without first taking a few shots at those who propagated the rumor. “Well, first Greta, you know why we love you?” Palin said. “Because you’re not afraid to ask the questions and I got to respect you for asking that question because I know that Boob-gate is all over the Internet right now because there are a lot of, I guess bored idle bloggers and reporters with nothing else to talk about. And I think some of those folks, too – they need to perhaps grab a shovel, go down to the Gulf, volunteer to help cleanup and save a whale or something instead of reporting on such stupid things like that.” And as for the implants? She cleared that up with very implicit answer. “No, I have not had implants,” she said. “I can’t believe we are even talking this. I think a report like that is about as real and truthful as those reports that Todd and I are divorcing or that I bought a place in the Hamptons or that Trigg is not my own child. And we still put up with that kind of garbage, too – even the mainstream media, Greta. It is amazing.”
