Bravo Confirms Departure of Jill Zarin from The Real Housewives of New York City

It’s been known for awhile, but now it’s confirmed: Jill Zarin will not appear again on The Real Housewives of New York City . Zarin herself commented on her exit last September, while rumors then surfaced that Ramona Singer was responsible for the ousting. But Bravo has finally released a statement of its own on the matter, stating for the record: “We wish Jill the best, but there is no consideration of her returning to the series. The network, of course, overhauled this franchise’s cast with Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill and Aviva Drescher heading into its fifth season. Ratings have been down a bit, however, leading to chatter that Zarin could return. Jill prompted that talk, too, when she told The New York Daily News recently: “I’ve reached out and offered [Bravo] any support they need” in order to boost viewership. That will not come to fruition, though, it’s now clear, while no new reality show featuring Zarin is in the works, either. [Photo: WENN.com]

Catching Fire Casting: Philip Seymour Hoffman in for Hunger Games Sequel?

After inheriting the reins of the Hunger Games franchise from director Gary Ross, Francis Lawrence is making casting moves as the YA series sequel, Catching Fire , comes into view. According to THR, the first new cast addition may be Philip Seymour Hoffman , who has reportedly been offered a key role that will figure into the next two installments in the franchise: New Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. If you recall, Wes Bentley’s Seneca Crane didn’t fare so well at the end of The Hunger Games, having failed to do his job in allowing Katniss Everdeen to become a symbol for rebellion. His position now vacated, Crane is replaced in Catching Fire by Heavensbee, who has a few surprises of his own to reveal. If you’ve read the books or know what happens in Catching Fire and beyond, the casting of this character in particular is all more intriguing, given what transpires in the plot-heavy next installments. Without spoiling it, I’ll just say this: Seeing someone of Hoffman’s caliber in the role makes Catching Fire (and the trilogy-ender Mockingjay) very promising, indeed. No confirmation yet as to whether or not Hoffman is a go for Plutarch Heavensbee; filming, meanwhile, is set to begin in September. [ THR ]

Sluts Unite: Women’s Rights Activists Lead Voter Registration Drive, Decry GOP, Rush Limbaugh

Women’s rights activists are leading a “Rock the Slut Vote” online effort to register women to vote and cast their ballots against Republicans in 2012. The name is a reference to Rush Limbaugh’s use of the word to describe law student Sandra Fluke, who testified before Congress in support of contraceptives. “If the GOP thinks throwing the word ‘slut’ at us at this point is going to silence women, they have another thing coming,” said Susan McMillan Emry, the site’s founder. Following the national backlash over Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluke a slut , “Rock the Slut Vote” is now aiming to “diffuse” the offensive term, Emry said. Taking a vein from comedian Jeff Foxworthy and his “You might be a Redneck if…” jokes, Emry’s website gives visitors 22 reasons why “You might be a slut.” One of the signs you’re a quote-unquote slut: “If you’ve ever used contraception.” Or “if you’re still downloading Dixie Chicks music” or “if you don’t go to church.” The site aims to “re-appropriate” the word “slut” so that the radio host and other Republicans cannot use it to “bully and silence women,” Emry said. “It’s really about taking the power away from that word more than about Rush Limbaugh. He gave the word the notoriety but we are trying to take it back.” Emry said the “Rush Limbaugh mess,” the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s decision to cut Planned Parenthood funding and recent efforts in state Legislatures to restrict access to abortions and contraceptives “compelled” her to create the site. “Originally my intention wasn’t so much to have a platform as to find a voice myself,” Emry said. “It was good for me personally because I felt so much outrage.”

Kardashians Don Bikinis, Get Hypnotized on Family Vacation

You know what they say about the Kardashians: they totally suck. No, wait, that’s not it. The family that lip dubs together stays together, that’s more accurate, considering this irritating clan has put together yet another video of themselves dancing around to a classic single. First, it was a cover of Katy Perry . Then, Kim and company moved on to ” Lady Marmalade .” Now, Notorious B.I.G. is forced to roll over many times in his grave as the Kardashians have released a Dominican Republic-based video of themselves bopping around to “Hypnotize.” Kardashian Lip Dub – “Hypnotize” No word yet on how Kim feels about her ex-husband dating some woman named Myla Sinanaj . But we’re guessing her reaction is the same as many readers will have to this video: Who cares?!?

Roberto Martinez: The Next Bachelor?

Is Roberto Martinez next in line to star as The Bachelor? Martinez, the former fiance of Ali Fedotowsky, who was The Bachelorette star before Emily Maynard and Ashley Hebert, is rumored to be returning to the franchise. Roberto would be the first non-white Bachelor or Bachelorette ever, which would be an interesting angle, and he’s obviously familiar with the show. Will it actually happen, though? Even though Life & Style is reporting that that Martinez already signed a contract to appear in Season 17, insiders say nothing has been signed as of yet. The 29-year-old insurance agent is “definitely still in the mix” to be the next Bachelor , but it’s way too early for any decision to be made for the role. ABC is also doing a casting search for unknowns, as well as waiting to see if any of the guys from this season of The Bachelorette stand out to them. Roberto Martinez and Ali got engaged in the 2010 season of The Bachelorette , but broke things off in November 2011 after 18 months of dating. Snow White and the Huntsman Takes Box Office Crown

Snow White and the Huntsman avoided any curses at the box office this weekend, taking the crown rather easily with an impressive haul of $56.3 million. For those with interest, the figure is the high mark for any Twilight actor in a non- Twilight role Taylor Lautner’s Valentine’s Day in 2010, a film in which the Twilight Saga stud only played a bit role. Snow White and the Huntsman Trailer (Full-Length) In other franchise news, The Hunger Games finally finished outside Top 10 for the first time since March. During its run, it racked up a quartet of number-one finishes and garnered just under $400 million domestically. India to Get Amazing Spider-Man First

Opening early overseas helped this week’s Battleship quietly amass $215 million before its domestic debut, and a few international markets (including Japan, Hong Kong, and New Zealand) may similarly see emphatic pre-U.S. openings for Sony’s July 3 tent pole The Amazing Spider-Man when it opens in countries like India days before hitting theaters stateside. Shall we call it, as one Sony Pictures India rep suggests, the “neener-neener” bump? “Each of the Spider-Man franchise films has broken records on its release in this territory. We are very confident that Indian audiences will enjoy the new reboot of the franchise even more because they are watching it before the U.S.” [ THR ]

John Mayer Leaves ‘Shadow Days’ Behind In New Video

By Jocelyn Vena John Mayer in his music video for “Shadow Days” Photo: Columbia In his new “Shadow Days” music video , John Mayer is leaving behind the bright lights and hustle and bustle of the big city for something simpler. The video is a road trip, with Mayer dressed up as a cowboy, making his way across the heartland of our great country to just chill out and let it all go. It’s a completely uncomplicated premise. Mayer treks through snowy landscapes, small-town motels, deserts and mountains to just find himself and, as the song addresses, let his past go. He leads an unfussy life in the clip, as he travels from place to place, buying guitars, eating greasy food in diners and rocking a cowboy hat with the sort of sincerity only a few guitar-slinging pop stars can pull off. Not much happens in the clip, but that’s kind of the idea. The story is nothing more than Mayer driving across America. But the sun-drenched message, perhaps, is that Mayer is looking to something simpler these days, given how his personal life has had some turmoil. For a man who has a reputation for breaking starlets’ hearts and has battled vocal-cord issues , Mayer seems to want to change his story and redirect the conversation back to his music. While the video opened with shots of a cityscape in all its artificial glow, it closes on a denim-clad Mayer, walking alone near the side of an abandoned road with just the sun to keep him company. “Shadow Days” is the lead single from his next album, Born and Raised, due May 22. He had planned to tour in support of the album this spring but had to cancel after he learned he was still battling a granuloma growth on his vocal cords. With Bruce Willis back for the franchise’s fifth film, “A Good Day to Die Hard,” producer Tom Rothman has made it clear that the butt-kicking star is just as badass as ever. “[We’ve] started this week, just started. It’s all set in Russia,” he told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “Well there’s bookend scenes in New York, but it’s John McClane, goes to Russia and I think the technical term … is f—s everything up. And the fun part about it, though, is there’s a great moment where he says ‘It’s good a day as any to die.’ ” Sure, McClane is throwing about his signature swag in the film, but Rothman assures fans that the movie also has a lot of heart, courtesy of the relationship between McClane and his son, Jack (played by Jai Courtney). “He thinks his kid is a screw-up,” he explained. “But, in fact, it’s the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father thinks. Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to Portray Aliens in Men in Black III

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga might soon get killed by Will Smith. Wait… what?!? Men in Black III director Barry Sonnenfeld confirmed in an interview with Collider this week that the music superstars will actually cameo in his upcoming blockbuster, though you’re unlikely to be aware of it as you watch Agents J and K in action. “In this [installment] there are a few people that you’ll see up on the surveillance board, including Lady Gaga, Tim Burton, who probably knows more about aliens than I do, and let’s see who else… Justin Bieber,” Sonnenfeld told the website. “The challenge is getting celebrities that are famous, will give you permission and won’t be like ‘Who’s that guy?’ in 10 years.” In the 2002 sequel to this franchise, Michael Jackson actually played the role of an alien for a brief scene. The film comes out on May 25 and you can watch the Men in Black III trailer now. Can you spot Bieber and/or Gaga in it?!?
