WATCH: The First ‘Spring Breakers’ Trailer Is Here, Bitches

The Spring Breakers trailer has FINALLY arrived, and it’s even more packed with girls and guns and bikinis and James Franco ‘s grimy braided hot mess than I’d ever dreamed. Also, the words “Spring Break” are spoken so many times in these two minutes of mayhem (I count 11 feverish utterances) that it’s seeping into my subconscious. Watch and whet your whistle for the March 22 opener after the jump and start working on your Franco-as-Alien Halloween costumes now. Franco may be the bizarro Riff Raff-ian centerpiece of Harmony Korine ‘s pic (shout out to Gucci Mane in the trailer!) but our restless antiheroines are played by Selena Gomez , Vanessa Hudgens , Ashley Benson , and Rachel Korine, who attempt to finance the best Spring Break ever by robbing a fast-food joint before Franco comes into the picture and makes their Vice Magazine -esque fantasies come true. Leryn Franco Bikini Pictures

I don’t normally do posts on athletes, usually because they’re more ripped than I am. But I’ll make an exception for Leryn Franco . See, in addition to being an Olympic javelin thrower for her native Paraguay, she’s also a model. And here she is taking some time off from both jobs to lounge around in a bikini and give us a better look at that world-class body. Now if you’ll excuse me, after looking at these, I have to go practice with my javelin. Thanks to Leryn, I’m going for a personal best. P.S. As an added bonus, check out this video of Leryn competing at an event. I think I might be doing it wrong. James Franco Sings "Love You Like a Love Song" to Selena Gomez

From the set of Spring Breakers comes this viral video of James Franco, looking like Kevin Federline pre-obesity and lip-syncing to “Love You Like a Love Song.” The actor was captured serenading the pop singer, his co-star in the upcoming film, while she shot a scene in the back seat of the car. Not distracting at all. Not the highest quality video of all time, but if nothing else, it’s James Franco, in cornrows, rocking out to Selena Gomez. That’s hilarious enough: James Franco – Love You Like A Love Song

About That Time the Cops Racially Profiled Tyler Perry

The Trayvon Martin incident inspired Tyler Perry’s latest blog post , which is like whoa : “As I stepped out of the car another officer pulled up in front of my car. This officer was a black guy. He took one look at me and had that Oh No look on his face. He immediately took both officers to the back of my car and spoke to them in a hushed tone. After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic. I said all of that to say this: do you see how quickly this could have turned for the worse?” Related: Why does Tyler Perry drive himself to the airport? So many questions. [ TylerPerry.com ]

The Broken Tower: The Case For James Franco’s Feature-Directing Breakthrough

The film : The Broken Tower (2011), available on DVD via Focus World Why it’s an Inessential Essential : Straight out of New York University’s Tisch School for the Arts, actor-turned-aspiring filmmaker James Franco helmed, starred in and adapted The Broken Tower: The Life of Hart Crane, Paul Mariani’s biography of the titular turn-of-the-century poet. Franco’s moving film — his first feature as a director to be commercially released — depicts Crane (played by Franco, of course) as a frustrated artist striving for an avant-garde artistic ideal that he would never fully realize. Crane, an alcoholic bisexual (one of whose conquests is played by Michael Shannon!) committed suicide at the age of 32 before he was able to complete The Bridge, his epic post-modern poem about, well, everything. Franco’s version of Crane identifies his style as a response to T.S. Eliot’s poems. He tells a friend that his poems are similarly reliant on free association, though Crane’s poems are considerably more hopeful than Eliot’s are. While Franco’s public persona suggests that he has become unfocused and uninterested in his own celebrity , The Broken Tower proves that, along with the probably never-to-be-released-on-DVD My Own Private River (a companion film to Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho that Franco and Van Sant exhaustively assembled from unused Idaho footage), Franco has made good use of his time and talent. For example, it’s apparent that Franco heavily researched Crane’s world, though his film exhibits that knowledge in a rather modest way; The Broken Tower ‘s narrative is, after all, mostly composed of dialogue-light long takes where Crane struggles to become inspired while having sex, getting drunk and taking long walks. But the period Crane lived in and the way it directly influenced how he experienced his creative frustrations and ecstasies is also vividly depicted in Franco’s film, too. How the DVD/Blu Makes the Case for the Film : Franco, cinematographer Christina Voros and The Broken Tower producer Vince Jolivette contribute an enlightening audio commentary. Franco’s rambling (though never boring or ignorant) narration takes some getting used to, but his enthusiasm about his subject and research comes through — particularly in conversation with Jolivette about making exterior scenes period-specific or with Voros about shooting in the cathedral at Notre Dame. It’s easy to pigeonhole Franco as a know-nothing art-house movie brat. But if you listen to him talk for a little bit, he does come off as well-read in an impressive and unpretentious way. Other Interesting Trivia : Elsewhere on the commentary, Franco cites Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr as a key influence on The Broken Tower ‘s use of long takes. This is especially striking since Franco also mentioned Tarr as a guiding influence when he recently presented My Own Private River at Lincoln Center’s screening of that film. In River, Franco emulated Tarr’s unique style of anti-kinetic storytelling because he was trying to edit the film as Gus Van Sant — who has also cited Tarr as a source of latter-day inspiration — might have cut it in 2011. But with The Broken Tower, Franco has taken his own footage and shot it with the intention of pacing a completely new film in a style similar to Tarr’s. Franco’s Tarr love proves how badly he wants to be taken seriously. With a little luck, he’ll get the respect he deserves. NYU Professor Allegedly Fired For Dropping D on James Franco

A former NYU professor claims he got fired because he’s Hispanic and dared give James Franco, Hollywood celebrity, a D in a class, according to a new lawsuit. Jose Angel Santana, who taught Franco in his “Directing the Actor” class, is now suing the University for his job back, claiming he was wrongfully terminated. According to the lawsuit, Santana dropped a D on Franco for missing 12 of the 14 classes during the MFA course. Not shocking, given his academic track record: However, when peeps found out, Santana claims he suffered all sorts of public humiliation at the hands of Franco and the school itself, which canned him. Something he claims would never have happened to a white professor. According to Santana, other faculty played favorites for Franco, including fellow professor Jay Anania, who Franco hired to write and direct Shadows & Lies . Santana says , “In my opinion, they’ve turned the NYU graduate film degree into swag for James Franco’s purposes, a possession, something you can buy.” “The university has done everything in its power to curry favor.” Okay … can we just talk about the pic again? That’s hilarious.

Alleged Halle Berry Stalker Pleads Not Guilty

Richard Franco has been arrested for allegedly trespassing on Halle Berry’s property over the weekend, but the crazed fan entered a plea inside a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday and denied all charges. His attorney said Franco was not guilty of felony stalking. In response, the judge issued an unusual restraining order: he ordered Franco to stay at least 500 yards away from Berry, but did NOT make the same decree in regard to Halle’s daughter, Nahla. Don’t worry, though, Nahla – who is at the center of a custody battle between Berry and Gabriel Aubry – is covered by a civil judge’s temporary restraining order against Franco. [Photo: WENN.com]

Check Out Two New Photos From The Hobbit: Bilbo and Gandalf Face Off

Thanks to a couple of new stills in Empire magazine, the latest pictures of Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman’s sepia-hued prestige in The Hobbit are upon us! And they look… so shadowy. Like a Middle-earth version of There Will Be Blood , where Martin Freeman plays H.W. and McKellen plays a post-apocalyptic version of Daniel Plainview (whose Pringles mustache is replaced with a fibrous beard). Get a load of “young” Gandalf and a new quote from Peter Jackson.
