Happy 66th Birthday, Bikini!

While two-piece swimwear had been around since the early 20th Century, the bikini was officially introduced July 5, 1946. The world? Never the same after that. We can all thank a Frenchman named Louis Reard, whose idea was to fashion a garment, using as little fabric as possible, that could still be legally worn in public. As our gallery of celebrity bikini photos shows, his dream lives on to this day. A French sunbather tries on the bikini in the mid-1940s . The rest, as they say, is history. Today, 66 years later, his invention is so indoctrinated into the very fabric of our culture that we even have the bikini onesie . Other July 5 birthdays: Megan Rapinoe (27), Eva Green (32), Huey Lewis (62) and Jersey Shore ‘s Pauly D (32), who surely appreciates sharing his with the bikini. Here are some classic bikinis through the years. Well, the last couple of years, because unlike the marvelous two-piece, THG is still in its relative infancy:

My name is Marianne, I’m 16 from Montréal, Canada and this is my Bieber Experience. To start it all, we went to the MMVAs’ sound check on Saturday around 10 and Justin got there around 11. I saw him just inches away from me! After the sound check, we got in the car and waited for him to get out of there and we followed him with Melissa Paradis, who’s paparazzi from Québec, in front of us. It was a crazy ride! Later, we saw a Go Kart place and we thought Justin was going there. Finally, there was an helicopter not far from there waiting for him so we got out of the car and started to run. Kenny got out of the car and said, “NO, STAY THERE, DON’T COME HERE.” We stop running, and started crying because Justin was waving us good-bye. Then one of my friends start to scream “IT’S BEEN 4 YEARS THAT WE’RE WAITING TO MEET YOU! PLEASE DON’T GO” That was when Justin talked to Moshe and Kenny and told us to come! We started to run again up to the helicopter and then Justin told us, “I couldn’t leave you without pictures” AWWW! We got by the helicopter one by one and I talked a little with Selena. I said hi, asked her how she was and for a picture, but there was no time with her. Anyway, Justin asked us where we were from, we said Montréal and then he said, “Merci beaucoup” (that means ‘thank you very much’ in French) Then someone said, “Alfredo should take the picture,” and Justin said “Oui, Alfredo, prend la photo!” (Yes, Alfredo, take the picture!) AHHH! Then one of my friends said something like, “Always believe in your dream, never say never” and Justin answered, “Yes, for sure.” Then we took pictures with Alfredo and we left. Also, I wished Alfredo a happy birthday and he thanked me twice. They were waving us goodbye from the helicopter and we started to cry like babies . All of that had been filmed because Melissa Paradis, also has her show here on Vrak, called Paparadis. When they were left, Kenny come and talked to us. He was so sweet! We also took pictures with him! Later that day, we went to the MMVA’s red carpet and I saw Justin AGAIN! He signed my Believe album there! In less than 24 hours, I saw Justin three times. That, was my Bieber Experience. -@MBieberSimpson Read the original post: My name is Marianne, I’m 16 from Montréal, Canada and this is my…

Rick Ross And Maybach Crew To Hit ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday

Wale, Meek Mill, French Montana, Omarion and Stalley will join Rozay in sit-down with Sway Calloway. By Rob Markman Maybach Music Group Photo: Looks like MTV News is going to need a few extra parking passes because Rick Ross will be bringing his entire Maybach Music Group up to “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. Rozay, Wale, Meek Mill, French Montana, Omarion and Stalley will all be in the building to sit and chop it up with host Sway Calloway on a very luxurious episode of “RapFix Live.” On Tuesday (June 26) the MMG crew released their Self Made Vol. 2 label compilation. The LP, led by the T-Pain-assisted single “Bag of Money,” features appearances from Nas, T.I., Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar and Bun B. The compilation sets up a very busy summer for Rozay and his boys. On July 31 Ross will drop his long-awaited God Forgives, I Don’t LP, and Meek Mill is prepping his debut, Dreams and Nightmares, for an August 28 release. French Montana’s Excuse My French is also scheduled to drop later this year. Back in May Ross held a press conference in New York City to announce his label’s release dates and the signing of R&B star and former B2K frontman Omarion. “I think it was a great day for hip-hop. It was a great energy for hip-hop,” Ross told MTV News of the MMG press conference. “When you reflect on hip-hop on a boss level, for the last 10 years, the business of hip-hop has been kinda shaky, it’s been in a decline. … I think this was a new energy that the hip-hop game needed, a momentum change.” The MMG crew members, though mostly known for music, occasionally make a few headlines outside of the studio as well. Most recently Meek Mill’s name came up in reports surrounding the fight between Drake and Chris Brown’s entourages at a New York club on June 14. See what Meek has to say about it all on Wednesday. Catch Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday, June 27, at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com! Related Artists Rick Ross Maybach Music Group

Kristen Stewart’s On the Road Nude Scene Leaks Online [PIC]

Remember when people had to sneak VHS camcorders into theaters to bootleg movies? Those things were huge! Things are different now. Everybody’s got a video camera that fits in their front pocket. And one anonymous French movie-goer was excited enough about Kristen Stewart ‘s topless double-handy scene in On the Road (2012) to whip out their smartphone, record the whole thing, and upload it onto the ‘net for the entire world to ogle. The quality is still terrible, though. Some things never change. After you’ve seen the video of Kristen Stewart ‘s nude in On the Road, check out her striptease scene from Welcome to the Rileys (2010) here at MrSkin.com!

Drive Director to Bring Barbarella to the Boob Tube

He’s best known for his depictions of tough guys like pugilistic prisoner “Charles Bronson” ( Bronson , 2008) and man of few words The Driver ( Drive , 2011), but now cult director and die-hard exploitation fan Nicholas Winding Refn is taking on a softer- and much more SKINtastic- subject. Refn has signed on to adapt the swingin’ 1968 sci-fi classic Barbarella for television in partnership with the French production company Gaumont (which is also currently producing two horror series: Eli Roth’ s Hemlock Grove and Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal ). The series will be produced by Martha De Laurentiis , whose late father Dino produced the movie Barbarella as well as skin classics from Mandingo (1975) to Body of Evidence (1993). We just hope that the series finds a home on a premium network like HBO or Showtime so we can get more groovy scenes like Jane Fonda shedding her spacesuit in the original. Refn has said that he thinks Christina Hendricks would make a great Wonder Woman , so don’t be surprised if her name comes up when it’s time for casting. Personally, we’d like to see a blonde bombshell like Alice Eve in the role. Who’s your pick for the new Queen of the Galaxy? Let us know in the comments!

Johnny Depp And Vanessa Paradis Split After 14 Years

Couple, who have two children together, have ‘amicably separated.’ By Brendan Dempsey Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis Photo: Johnny Depp is back on the market. After a relationship that spanned 14 years, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star has officially called it quits with his longtime girlfriend, French actress Vanessa Paradis. In a statement to ABC News , Depp’s publicist stated that the couple had “amicably separated.” The statement asks that people “respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children.” Depp, 48, and Paradis, 39, have two children together but were never married. The two met in 1998 and moved in together shortly after that. They made their home in Plan-de-la-Tour in the south of France, where they stayed for several years. When asked about marriage, Paradis told Elle magazine, “I love the romance of ‘let’s get married,’ but then, when you have it so perfect … I mean, I’m more married than anybody can be — we have two kids. Maybe one day, but it’s something I can really do without.” Many sources have reported that the relationship has been rocky for some time now. Hints that the relationship was deteriorating began to surface after they returned to L.A. from France. Depp and Paradis haven’t appeared on a red carpet as a couple in longer than a year. In 2010, Paradis hinted to Marie Claire magazine that the two were growing apart: “I could make an endless list of all the things I admire about him,” she said. “We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own, and trust each other. Not everyone is lucky enough to be given space and trust.” Depp was last seen at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, where he received the Generation Award and jammed with the Black Keys . He is currently looking forward to his next blockbuster project, “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” which is slated to hit theatres in 2013.

Drake Vows To Outdo Summer Jam At New York Show

‘They f—ed up Summer Jam, so I’m just gonna do Summer Jam how it’s supposed to go,’ Drizzy tells Scoob Doo about Club Paradise Tour stop. By Nadeska Alexis Drake Photo: Drake and Nicki Minaj have been making controversial headlines following a club brawl and a canceled Summer Jam performance , respectively, but when Drake’s Club Paradise Tour touches down in New York on Saturday, Team YMCMB will be back in full force, minus the controversy. On Wednesday night, Drake visited Sin City Cabaret in the Bronx, New York, for Maybach Music Group’s Self Made Vol. 2 listening session, after which he revealed exclusively to DJ Scoob Doo’s new website BreadOverBed that he had a few surprises in store for his New York show. “They f—ed up Summer Jam, so I’m just gonna do Summer Jam how it’s supposed to go,” Drake told Scoob, referencing Lil Wayne’s decision to pull Young Money out of the show’s lineup after offensive remarks were directed toward Nicki Minaj. “I’ve got everyone you would want to see, plus people that you wouldn’t expect to see.” Thus far, Drake’s tour roster includes Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame and French Montana, not to mention guest appearances from T.I., Rick Ross and Future, so it seems likely that additional members from his YMCMB family will join him on the bill Saturday. During a heated radio interview with Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex following her canceled Summer Jam set, Minaj promised fans that she would do a free show in New York to make up for the disappointment. Could an appearance at Drake’s show be on her agenda as well? Before Minaj and crew pulled out of the lineup, Lil Wayne was rumored to be one of her guests, along with surprise appearances from Nas and Lauryn Hill. As Drake gears up for his concert, he’s still dealing with some fallout from a club brawl with Chris Brown in New York on Wednesday night, but the show must go on. Stayed tuned to MTV News and RapFix.MTV.com for continued coverage on Drake’s Club Paradise Tour. Related Artists Drake

‘Bel Ami’: The Reviews Are In!

‘This new ‘Bel Ami’ has a lot to recommend it, but it never seems as artful or smart as ‘Dangerous Liaisons,’ writes Noel Murray of the A.V. Club. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson in “Bel Ami” Photo: Magnolia Pictures At long last, your wait to see Robert Pattinson in all his shirtless , pants-less, bum-baring big-screen glory has arrived! “Bel Ami” opens in Los Angeles, New York and other select cites Friday (June 8), in addition to already being available on VOD. Our story takes place in 19th-century Paris, where self-made man of sorts Georges Duroy (Pattinson) uses his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties. It’s a curiously familiar societal setting in which politics and media jostle for influence and where sex is power and celebrity an obsession. As excited as Pattinson fans are to see their favorite star in action, the critical mass is less than impressed with the “Twilight” hunk’s assets in this particular period piece as it’s currently sitting at a 31 percent “Fresh” rating at Rotten Tomatoes . Without further ado, let’s sift through the “Bel Ami” reviews! The Story “Guy de Maupassant’s novel ‘Bel Ami’ has been adapted for the stage and screen multiple times — most memorably in 1947, in a movie starring George Sanders and Angela Lansbury. The novel’s appeal is obvious: It explores the social strata of 19th-century Paris by showing an ambitious scoundrel hopping from bed to bed. But given the era when the book was written, and given when its best-known adaptations were made, most ‘Bel Ami’s have had to imply a lot, being coy about what’s really happening in those private chambers. So for the new adaptation, directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod and screenwriter Rachel Bennette try to take more advantage of the freedoms of modern cinema, making sure that their ‘Bel Ami’ has plenty of sex and straight talk. The result is almost a test case for whether explicitness is a virtue. The verdict? Inconclusive. This new ‘Bel Ami’ has a lot to recommend it, but it never seems as artful or smart as ‘Dangerous Liaisons,’ the film it most resembles.” — Noel Murray, A.V. Club Pattinson’s Paramours “What we get … is a dumb, entitled-but-tortured dreamboat falling into bed with a bunch of aristocratic women, and then turning inexplicably and insupportably Machiavellian only after he’s thoroughly slighted. First charming the throaty, free-spirited Madame Forestier (Uma Thurman, giving the film’s most engaged performance, to little avail), then the apparently erotically frustrated and still slightly gaminesque Clotilde (Christina Ricci, who looks pretty comfortable striking poses inspired by Degas’ odalisques, bless her heart) and finally wife-of-hated-boss Virginie (Kristin Scott-Thomas), Pattinson maintains the air of a kid being sent to bed without dessert. … The more experienced moviegoer may experience relief from the movie’s tedium by recalling the much better period pieces that female members of the cast have appeared in. Seeing Thurman in elaborate costume brought back fond memories of the much edgier and coherent and fun ‘Dangerous Liasons.’ For Ricci, of course, there’s ‘Prozac Nation,’ no, wait, sorry, the appealingly bloody Gothic ‘Sleepy Hollow.’ And for Scott-Thomas, well, when her character finds out that Duroy has just left the army after serving for five years in Algiers, she says, ‘I once heard a rather foolish story about the desert,’ and of course I thought, ‘You mean “The English Patient”?’ ” — Glenn Kenny, MSN Movies A Pouty Pattinson? “Mr. Pattinson’s strained performance in ‘Bel Ami’ leads a long list of problems in a film whose plot is so elaborate it would have been better served spread out over several hours. … As you watch Mr. Pattinson twist his features into expressions of cunning and treachery, as if he had just been practicing in a mirror, the primary missing ingredient is charm. This reasonably good-looking 26-year-old English actor, with his asymmetrical eyes and a doughy torso, affects a cold, reptilian sneer. Bad boys may have their appeal, but this one lacks the animal magnetism of even an amateur Lothario. To watch Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas melt under his icy ministrations is to roll your eyes in disbelief.” — Stephen Holden, The New York Times The Final Word, Pro-Con Style “[O]n the whole ‘Bel Ami’ is highly watchable. As is often the case in costume pictures especially, the degree to which different characters are convincingly of the world of the film varies. Thomas, for instance, is at once tragically and comically lovely as the good, religious wife seduced out of her right mind. She can telegraph that world in a glance and a few words. Thurman has a tougher time with Madeleine; although she makes a shattering indictment of Georges near the end, her character in particular — the ambitious political player stymied by her sex — demonstrates an endemic problem with the script (by Rachel Bennette) and the direction: The best performances seem to inhabit a story that the filmmaking doesn’t bear out.” — Michelle Orange, Movieline “Is it his acting, the inexperience of co-directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod — each making their feature film debut — or both? Some reports from Cannes (although not from TIME’s Richard Corliss) had Pattinson coming into his own in David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis,’ but he gives no hint of depth in ‘Bel Ami.’ On the other hand, even an expert meanie like Colm Meany, playing George’s dismissive editor, doesn’t make much of an impression. The ladies fare a little better. Scott Thomas, despite her blessings in the innate elegance department, makes a convincing case she’s as pleased at being petted as a neglected whippet. In between considered puffs on a cigarette and playing a parlor game of French politics, Thurman’s Madeleine has a memorable sex scene with George involving both a figurative and, one senses from the pain on Pattinson’s face, literal testicular crushing. Time check: it’s been 24 years since she played the innocent virgin in the similarly themed, infinitely superior ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ (which in turn spawned its own teenaged version, ‘Cruel Intentions,’ apt to be a lot more fun for Pattinson’s ‘Twilight’ fans than ‘Bel Ami’). Reality check: Robert Pattinson and John Malkovich; very different generations of le sex machine Fran
