Bruno Mars Fans Brave Rain For ‘Today’ Performance

Mars performed ‘Lazy Song,’ ‘Just the Way You Are’ and more at ‘Today’ show performance in Rockefeller Center. By Danielle Genet Bruno Mars performs on “Today” on Friday Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images NEW YORK — Rainy, misty weather did not stop Bruno Mars “hooligans” from attending his concert at the Plaza at Rockefeller Center early Friday morning (June 24) for the “Today” show. Fans came from all around the country, some even camping out since 10 p.m. the previous night, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Grammy Award winner. Mars didn’t disappoint, performing his hits “The Lazy Song,” “Runaway Baby” and “Just the Way You Are” off of his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. “He’s an amazing singer, performer. [His Grammy win] makes me like him even more,” fan Kathy Ramos, who had been waiting since 1 a.m., said. Fans created hundreds of homemade signs hoping to catch Mars’ eye. Megan Carroll and Kayla Dee, both 16, lined up late Thursday night and were excited to see Mars perform. “We love him. We saw him a month ago and we needed to go again. The rain’s annoying, but it’s definitely worth it,” Carroll said. Munzath Ashraf and Sundus Arain, both 18, arrived around 4 a.m. for the show. “We love Bruno Mars and we want to make sure we get in,” Ashraf said. More than 2,000 fans arrived early this morning, surprising local police and even host Ann Curry, who proclaimed this concert was the “biggest crowd of the year” for the “Today” show concert series. The line to get inside the barricades wrapped around at least three blocks. But the limited space and the massive crowd left many fans unable to see the show. Even fans who had waited for hours weren’t able to get inside the barricade. Both Ashraf and Arain ended up leaving even before they saw Mars. “We are really disappointed. The stage was just too low to the ground and people were crying and trying to jump on our shoulders,” Ashraf explained. Mars hit the stage sleekly dressed in a black Dolce & Gabbana suit with a hot pink shirt and black tie along with dark shades, but without his signature short-brimmed fedora hat. The singer started his set with “The Lazy Song,” which really got the crowd amped. After his first song, Matt Lauer and Mars talked for a few minutes and commented on how much larger the crowd was today as compared to his last appearance on the show eight months ago. Mars, who continues to gain notoriety and success as a solo artist, told Lauer, “They’re making signs for me. I’m just happy I’m here. I really got lucky.” When asked if he plans to keep writing for other artists (Mars has previously written for Cee-Lo Green, B.o.B and Travie McCoy), Mars joked, “Absolutely not. I’m done,” and then added “Of course.” For his next song, Mars sang “Runaway Baby” and playfully danced along with his band. To close the set, Mars sang a jazzy rendition of “Just the Way You Are,” with the whole crowd singing along. And as if on cue, the rain really started to come as soon as Mars ended his set. Katy Perry Closing In On Michael Jackson’s #1 Singles Record

If ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ tops Hot 100, Perry’s Teenage Dream will tie MJ’s mark of five #1s from a single album. By James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: John Parra/ WireImage Katy Perry’s unstoppable Teenage Dream album continues to churn out hits … and now, it might just make history too. If Dream ‘s fifth single, the just-released “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” , continues its climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (it currently sits at #4, jumping 27 spots from last week), Perry will not only become the first female artist to ever have five #1 songs off one album, she’ll be the first artist of any gender to accomplish the feat since Michael Jackson had five chart-topping singles off his Bad album in 1987 and 1988. Perry’s previous #1s from the Dream album are, of course, “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” Jackson’s five #1s from the Bad album are “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana.” Perry has already shattered the Hot 100 record for most consecutive weeks with a single inside the Top 10 (48, a number previously held by Swedish popmeisters Ace of Base), then kept that momentum going by spending an entire year in the chart’s upper echelon. More incredibly, that streak is still active, as two of Perry’s singles — “T.G.I.F.” and “E.T.” — sit at numbers 4 and 5, respectively. What’s more, “T.G.I.F” currently sits atop the Billboard Digital Songs chart, and may soon be her sixth single to pass the 4 million mark in digital sales, joining “E.T.,” “California Gurls,” “Firework,” and from her One of the Boys album, “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl.” No other artist has even had four songs pass the 4 million download mark … Perry’s closest competitors in that regard are Lady Gaga and Rihanna, both of whom have had three 4 million-sellers. Cory Monteith Parade magazine 2011

“I#39;m not Finn Hudson,” the actor who plays him, Cory Monteith, tells Parade magazine in an eye-opening interview that will appear Sunday. When it comes to his present and his past, Monteith, 29, admits, “I#39;m lucky on so many counts – I#39;m lucky to be alive.” Football – and singing – star at William McKinley High School, Finn Hudson is quite a role model, as evidenced every week on Glee. But he#39;s also quite a work of fiction. A precocious child whose parents divorced when he was 7,

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9″ Debut Tops Billboard Chart

Bad Meets Evil’s Hell: The Sequel barely outsells Jackie Evancho. By Gil Kaufman Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem Photo: MTV News Eminem just scored another #1 album. Almost a year to the day his comeback smash Recovery crashed the charts with more than 741,000 in sales, the Detroit rapper’s collaborative EP with pal Royce Da 5’9″ as Bad Meets Evil , Hell: The Sequel, hit the top of the charts as well, though it didn’t post anywhere near the gaudy numbers of Slim Shady’s solo effort. The album moved a modest 171,000 copies in its first week on the charts, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, just besting the latest album from 11-year-old “American’s Got Talent” soprano opera singer Jackie Evancho , Dream With Me , which sold 161,000. The second release from one-man emo band Owl City , All Things Bright and Beautiful , debuted at #6 on sales of 48,000, while classic crooner Barry Manilow made it to #7 with 15 Minutes (36,000), his first album of all-original material in more than a decade. R&B singer Ledisi was just behind at #8 with Pieces of Me (36,000). The rest of the top 10: Adele , 21 (#3, 115,000); Lady Gaga , Born This Way (#4, 68,000); Jason Aldean , My Kinda Party (#5, 51,000); Brad Paisley , This is Country Music (#9, 35,000) and the cast recording of the Tony-winning Broadway show (#10, 34,000). Among the other chart debuts were makeup-wearing rockers Black Veil Brides with Set the World On Fire (#17, 23,000) and the debut EP from YouTube sensation and Christina Grimmie , Find Me (#35, 13,000). After finally opening on Broadway, following months of maligned previews and technical glitches, the soundtrack to the musical, featuring music performed by the cast as well as score writers Bono and the Edge of U2, hit the charts at #86 on soft sales just shy of 7,000. On the iTunes charts, Em and Royce ruled the album tally, followed by Adele, Owl City, Journey’s Greatest Hits album — which led a parade of classics as part of a low-dough Father’s Day digital special also including the Nothing But the Best Frank Sinatra comp (#5) and Bob Marley’s Legend (#6) — as well as Grimmie (#7), Gaga, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More and Evancho. On the iTunes singles chart, Katy Perry hit the top again with “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” besting LMFAO ‘s “Party Rock Anthem,” Pitbull ‘s “Give Me Everything,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory.” Rounding out the singles tally were Nicki Minaj with “Super Bass” (#6), Bad Meets Evil’s “Lighters,” Lil Wayne ‘s “How to Love,” Bruno Mars ‘ “The Lazy Song” and Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem.” There could be a few new names in the top 10 next week, thanks to debuts from R&B singer Jill Scott, mellow folkie Bon Iver, LMFAO, Pitbull and comedian “Weird Al” Yankovic. . Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ A ‘Bold’ Video

‘I really hope other artists take Katy’s lead and try to not take themselves so seriously,’ director Marc Klasfeld tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records There are many stars in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” video , but perhaps none as sparkling as Katy herself, who director Marc Klasfeld said had fun playing dorky Kathy Beth Terry. “I thought it was really bold of Katy, who is such a sex symbol, to try something like this, but I also knew it would be received very well if done right. I worked with Katy on 3OH!3’s ‘Starstrukk’ and knew she could pull off comedy. And she is actually an incredible actress who dove into this Kathy Beth role with reckless abandon,” he told MTV News about the colorful romp . “I really hope other artists take Katy’s lead and try to not take themselves so seriously all the time. Sometimes, fun can be cool too.” Speaking of fun, Hanson , Kenny G and two “Glee” stars are hardly the only celebs that made the final cut, Klasfeld shares. “One more random celebrity fact that added to the video is that the video was shot at [‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actor] John Schneider’s house,” he revealed. “That added a special spirit to the piece. He’s got a pretty wicked house with all this classic ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ stuff up on the walls. John and his family were away for the weekend, thankfully, ’cause the house really did look trashed when we were shooting. We had a great art department who cleaned it up though and made it look brand-new.” Klasfeld was asked to turn Perry’s goofy Teen Choice Awards character into the lead for the video, and from there it all took off. “Having done many comedic music videos, I was immediately into it and wrote something up,” he said. “With Katy having four #1 singles, I wanted to make this fifth one into an event like Michael Jackson used to do. “The inspiration was obviously John Hughes, but also a lot of my own music videos that I did for Alien Ant Farm, Sum 41, Nelly and others,” he continued. “I always enjoy making these pop-culture mash-ups where comedy and random celebrities get mixed with the music into this brand-new thing.” Give us your review of the “Last Friday Night” video in the comments below!

‘Harry Potter’ Actress Emma Watson Sick Of Having ‘No Control’ Over Her Life

‘I have lived in a complete bubble,’ ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ star tells Vogue. By Eric Ditzian Emma Watson on the July 2011 cover of Vogue Photo: Vogue When we caught up with Emma Watson at the MTV Movie Awards afterparty earlier this month, the 21-year-old Brit confessed, “I’m having the time of my life.” For the first time in her professional career, Watson is free of the all-encompassing “Harry Potter” franchise and has set about creating for herself a cinematic second act — one that has nothing to do with Hogwarts and Hermione Granger. It’s been a long time coming, as the actress admitted in a new Vogue cover story. “I have had no control over my life,” Watson said. “I have lived in a complete bubble. They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it.” The first move she made was signing on to an adaptation of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” a provocative novel about teenage life in America. She also dropped out of Brown University in March, after years of fighting to continue her education while also remaining committed to one of the biggest film franchises on Earth. “I have felt for the last 10 years I have had this battle — I’ve been fighting so hard to have an education. It’s been this uphill struggle,” she said. “I was Warner Bros.’ pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict. I was the one who made life difficult.” Now fully outside the “Potter” bubble, Watson is trying, as she put it, “to really enjoy the good things because it makes the bad things OK.” Among those unwelcome things is the constant attention of the paparazzi. And when she does begin a new relationship (her previous one ended last summer), she hopes the tabloid spotlight won’t spoil the romance. “I’m a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love — and it being more important and special than anything and everything else,” she said. “I would love to not date someone in the same industry as me. Otherwise it becomes what it means to everyone else.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ Gets Teen-Party Makeover From Rebecca Black

Hanson, Kenny G and ‘Glee’ stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale also guest-star in teen-movie homage. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records What happened “Last Friday Night” ? Katy Perry’s alter ego Kathy Beth Terry is trying to figure that out. In the just premiered video , directed by Marc Klasfeld, Perry pays homage to the teen flicks of the ’80s, with the help of quite a few famous friends. In the midst of a rousing game of sudoku, the brace-faced, headgear-wearing, nerdy Kathy seems initially mad at the house party going on outside. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, try to reason with the revelers and get them to stop, obviously. But those revelers happen to include “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, house band Hanson, with an assist from Kathy Beth Terry ‘s crazy uncle Kenny G, and “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter of whom has a mad, fantasy-tinged crush on Kathy. And soon, rather than put an end to the festivities, she’s drawn into the party, which includes the tropes from movies like “She’s All That,” “Can’t Hardly Wait” and about five flicks by John Hughes. After Black gives Perry a makeover, complete with spandex, big hair and funky earrings, she’s hanging with all of the cool kids. She’s drinking, dancing, vomiting and falling over drunk, while the song’s lyrics talk about regretting the Friday-night actions that are inevitably documented and spread online. And, of course, it all comes back to Saturday morning, when a hungover Kathy is both pleased and shocked by what happened the night before, as her passed-out guests and Facebook page remind her of it all. Her parents arrive on the scene, but they don’t seem too angry at her party-girl antics, maybe because they’re played by Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. The only real casualty of the party? Kathy’s solar system model! Related Artists Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s Geeky Teen Alter Ego Joins Twitter, Facebook

In a teaser for upcoming ‘Last Friday Night’ video, science-fair loving Kathy Beth Terry gets trashed at a house party. By James Dinh Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” cover art Photo: Capitol Pop stars often take on different personas in their music videos, but Katy Perry has taken it a step further, unveiling a dorky new alter ego before the release of her clip for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” For the fifth single off Teenage Dream, Perry has transformed into a 13-year-old high-schooler named Kathy Beth Terry, whose Facebook page lists her birthday as June 1, 1998. The visual for the Dr. Luke and Max Martin-produced feel-good tune drops June 14. Fans caught an early glimpse of the “Last Friday Night” video in a teaser released online on Tuesday (June 7). In the 35-second sneak peek, an invite for “the party of the summer” is pinned onto Kathy Beth’s corkboard, alongside her science award ribbon and dentist appointment reminder. “What, what was last night?” a confused Kathy asks herself in the clip, before a flashback montage shows festivities, kids dancing, and the wide-eyed teen throwing up in a shoe. Perry’s solar-system-loving persona has already hit the social media realms of Twitter and Facebook. Not only does Kathy Beth Terry love a good party, but she’s a technology wiz too. “Harry S. Truman High: your firewall is weak, just hacked into @Twitter at the library, you can’t block me, n00bs!” Kathy tweeted on Tuesday. If fans want to know even more about Kathy, they can head to the high-schooler’s Facebook page and read up on some of her interests, which include high-school science fairs, Beanie Babies and Hanson. As for where the 13-year-old gets her fashions from, Kathy writes, “I shop at Mervyn’s and Dillard’s (sometimes). I WISH I could afford 579!” What do you think of Katy’s video teaser?
