I’ll admit, I’m not much of a rap guy, but Big Red Anthem, as released by Lincoln musician Brown (not his real name) is pretty catchy. It’s part of student movement called “Take Back Gameday” that oddly enough doesn’t occur on game days, but is a Friday Night rally before every home game at around 8:30 pm or whenever they get done with Friday Happy Hours and can find their way to the 14th and Vine… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Corn Nation Discovery Date : 26/08/2011 17:11 Number of articles : 2
Michael Bay’s robot flick will hit theaters again on Friday and run for two weeks. By Terri Schwartz Bumblebee in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: Paramount The moon will go dark again as Paramount gears up to re-release “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” in IMAX this Friday. The third “Transformers” flick is currently the second-highest-grossing film of the year in the U.S., coming in second to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” with $348.5 million. “Dark of the Moon” will get a second life in 246 IMAX theaters in North America beginning on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter , and will run in IMAX through September 8. In most cases, that means the Michael Bay flick will screen alongside already running movies like “Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “Cowboys & Aliens” and “Final Destination 5,” given that Steven Soderbergh’s soon-to-open “Contagion” doesn’t hit IMAX until September 9. Last year, “Avatar” made a similar move at the end of the summer, attempting to recapture moviegoers’ interest before the end of the blockbuster movie season. The major difference between re-releases for “Avatar” and “Dark of the Moon” is that James Cameron stuffed “Avatar” with nine more minutes of previously unreleased footage to entice moviegoers. While “Dark of the Moon” doesn’t have new footage, the newest releases haven’t been big draws at the box office and that may make it a good time to try to nab any stragglers who still want to see giant robots blow things up. Christopher Nolan’s Batman flick also benefited from this strategy. After its initial July 2008 opening, Warner Bros. gave “The Dark Knight” a February 2009 IMAX re-release . And even though the studio bypassed the summer movie season for the second release, the stunt still worked. There was plenty of residual interest in the flick following its Academy Awards success, and the second run helped push “Dark Knight” onto the list of the highest-grossing films of all time. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a trend in summers to come, with blockbuster films like “Prometheus,” “Men in Black III,” “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Dark Knight Rises” all set to hit theaters in 2012. Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maine also on hand to see three men plead guilty and walk free. By Gil Kaufman Eddie Vedder (file) Photo: Getty Images Eighteen years after they were sent to prison for the murders of three 8-year-old Cub Scouts in 1993, the men known as the West Memphis 3 were unexpectedly freed from jail Friday (August 19) when their lawyers reached an unusual deal with prosecutors. With such celebrity supporters as Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder and the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines on hand to watch the proceedings, Damien Echols (36), Jason Baldwin (34) and Jessie Misskelley Jr. (36) were set free thanks to a legal maneuver called an “Alford Plea” in which the three men pleaded guilty while still maintaining their innocence as they acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict them. “The gag order has been lifted, so now I can tell you, I’m sitting in a holding room at the courthouse about to see three men walk free!” Maines tweeted Friday afternoon. “Beautiful things went down in Arkansas today. Beautiful beautiful things … The WM3 will now and forever be the WMFree!” The three, all teenagers at the time of their arrest, were convicted of the murders in what officials called a satanic ritual. But evidence later showed that their DNA did not match the DNA found at the crime scene. Their case became a cause c
‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ marks Perry’s fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ’s Bad achievement. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson ‘s record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she’s tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987’s Bad. Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from “Last Friday Night”? Perry’s previous #1’s from Teenage Dream are “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana” from his Bad album. “What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY!” the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). “&u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu.” Explore our “Katy Perry: By The Numbers” infographic: Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry’s Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat. “Last Friday Night” has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix . Perry’s Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards , Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for “Firework”; Best Pop Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed “E.T.,” which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy “Teenage Dream” clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography. What’s your favorite Teenage Dream single? Let us know in the comments below! ‘iCarly’ star postpones tour dates after breaking her ankle early Thursday morning. By Jocelyn Vena Miranda Cosgrove Photo: Getty Images “iCarly” star Miranda Cosgrove was injured in a bus accident early on Thursday (August 11), her rep confirmed to MTV News. The 18-year-old actress/singer, who is currently on her summer tour, was not seriously injured but did suffer a broken ankle. “Miranda Cosgrove’s tour bus was involved in an accident early this morning in Illinois on I-70, just outside of Vandalia,” her rep said in a statement. Cosgrove had been traveling from a Wednesday night show in Ohio to Kansas for her Friday stop on the Dancing Crazy Tour. “There were five passengers on the bus, and Miranda suffered a broken ankle. At this time, we are told everyone will be fine. “Because of this, her tour is postponed until further notice,” the statement concludes. “Miranda thanks everyone for their understanding and support.” The tour had dates slated through October, when it was going to wrap up in Arizona. Cosgrove recently appeared in the Best Coast video for the track “Our Deal.” The ’50s-themed clip features some of Hollywood’s biggest up-and-comers like Cosgrove, Chlo
Katy Perry cannot be stopped. The singer’s first movie role (voiceover only, granted) helped The Smurfs earn a tie for first place at the box office this weekend, while the singer has also made music history on the Billboard chart: “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” is Katy’s fifth single off “Teenage Dream” to hit number-one on Billboard’s Pop Song chart, making her the only artist in the chart’s nearly 20-year history to accomplish such a feat. Announcement came after Friday show was cut short when Followill abruptly left the stage. By James Montgomery Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill (file) Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images The Kings of Leon were forced to bring a Friday-night show in Dallas to an abrupt end after frontman Caleb Followill complained of voice problems and then told the crowd at the Gexa Energy Pavilion, “I’m gonna go backstage and I’m gonna vomit. I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out and play three more songs.” Followill then left the stage and never returned, leading his bandmates to apologize to the crowd, saying, “Caleb’s just a little unfit to play the rest of the show. … It’s really not our fault, it’s Caleb.” Immediately following the incident, KOL bassist Jared Followill took to his Twitter account to further apologize and hinted at a growing strife within the band, writing, “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed … I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” In YouTube footage of the Friday show, Caleb Followill is seen engaging the crowd in several lengthy diatribes, urging them to help him sing the words because his voice was “100 percent gone,” and adding, “I’m gonna drink some beer and I’m gonna drink some tequila and I’m gonna have a f—ing good time.” He also made repeated references to the heat, saying, “Just for the record, I’m not drunk, I’m just f—ing hot. … I’m about to fall down over here, because I’m so daggum hot.” In the aftermath of the Dallas show, the band announced they were postponing a Saturday concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, claiming that Followill was suffering from “heat exhaustion and dehydration … [which caused] his vocal chords to seize.” The Houston show was rescheduled for September 22, and the band said they would return to Dallas on September 21 and that all tickets from the aborted show would be honored. “Kings of Leon apologize to their fans for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to seeing their fans again in September,” the statement concluded. There’s no word on whether the band’s Tuesday show in Tampa would go on as scheduled. A spokesperson for the band did not have any additional comment when contacted by MTV News.
