Robert Pattinson Kisses Kristen Stewart Onstage In His #4 MTV Moment

RPattz will debut an exclusive ‘Water for Elephants’ clip and answer fan questions live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Robert Pattinson later confessed that the kiss “didn’t work,” but there are legions of “Twilight” fans who would surely disagree. That smooch with Kristen Stewart, after all, might just be the closest any fan will ever get to seeing the duo lock lips in a setting where they’re not pretending to be Forks, Washington, lovebirds. It all went down at the MTV Movie Awards in June of last year, when Pattinson and Stewart took the stage to accept the Golden Popcorn statue for Best Kiss and ended up, awkwardly and charmingly, kissing onstage. The moment immediately became one of the most memorable in Movie Awards history, so it’s no surprise that it’s also one of our favorite RPattz moments — a top-five list we’re counting down before the debut of “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET. To fully understand the kiss, we’ve got to flash back to 2009, when the actors won their first Best Kiss award . Pattinson leaned into the mic and announced that he had to take the gum out of his mouth. He and KStew stared at each other as if readying for a kiss. They closed their eyes, leaned in, brushed noses — but that’s as close as they’d get. “Thank you so much!” Stewart declared, before they scampered backstage. A year later, they found themselves back onstage, once again accepting the Best Kiss win. “So I guess the thing to do — we’re supposed to kiss each other,” Stewart said. “But to be perfectly honest with you, it takes a lot of smoke and mirrors to make us look good kissing. We don’t want to let you guys down. We’ll give it a shot.” Much like the year before, they seemed to be teasing the audience with the prospect of a Robsten kiss without actually delivering one. Until they did. And the Twi-verse imploded. That didn’t stop Pattinson from telling us afterward that he wasn’t all that pleased with how things went. “I had the best ideas last night,” he told us backstage. “And I was telling everyone, ‘Listen, just leave it to me, I’ve got it all under control.’ I was telling everyone all these ideas. I gave them a whole selection and no one thought they were funny, so then we ended up doing something which didn’t work.” RPattz may not have loved the way things turned out, but the onstage bit they went with sounded a lot better than some of those other ideas of his. “He wanted to be hula-hooping with a match in his mouth, and then he wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula-hooping, and he wanted to put it in my mouth and see if we could make our way over to each other,” Stewart told us later . “It didn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me. I was like, ‘I can’t juggle onstage in shoes. I can barely walk up the stairs.’ ” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Robert Pattinson’s 10 Best MTV Quotes

Gear up for RPattz’s ‘MTV First’ live stream (Friday at 8:56 p.m) by looking back at a few choice lines he’s given us. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson Photo: Jun Sato/ WireImage Anything could happen during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” our live chat with the “Twilight” star on Friday. He did, after all, once drop two curses in less than two seconds during a live interview with us on the “Eclipse” red carpet . There’s no telling what might pop out of RPattz’s mouth during the live, 30-minute interview. Whatever does happen, though, you can count on it being entertaining. In his own kinda awkward, always endearing way, Pattinson has a knack for delivering memorable sound bites. As we count down the days until “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” at 8:56 p.m. ET on Friday, we plucked out our 10 favorite quotes of his, ranging from those strange days when RPattz wasn’t yet a household name to recent comments about a “Breaking Dawn” photo of him in bed with Kristen Stewart. 10. “This is the first time, really, that I’ll be confronted with a bunch of Twilighters. I guess I can see for myself. But I’m kind of nervous about it.” — At Comic-Con in 2008 9. “The worst part is you’ve got to work almost every single day, which is something I’m never going to get used to.” — On the downside of being Edward Cullen, at the Los Angeles premiere of “New Moon” 8. “I didn’t see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, ‘Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!’ — Speaking to MTV Radio about seeing Taylor Lautner’s pre-“New Moon” physical transformation for the first time 7. “It made me feel really tough, really hard. I don’t think I’ve ever won a fight in my life.” — On winning Best Fight with Cam Gigandet at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards 6. “To be honest, I should’ve been nominated in a few more categories.” — On “New Moon” only receiving five noms at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards 5. “Before ‘Twilight,’ I did any movie that I got [offered], and you’d try and make the best of it afterward. But now you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can’t just mess around. People are like, ‘We’re employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.’ It’s difficult, and it’s scary.” — On the pressures that come with superstardom . 4. “The idea of kind of doing this big romantic kiss, like Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did [for ‘The Notebook’], I couldn’t do that. I’d be so embarrassed! So I just thought, ‘We better do something dumb.’ But then Kristen didn’t want to do something dumb!” — On his awkward smooch with KStew while accepting the win for Best Kiss at the 2010 Movie Awards 3. “I love how they release that for the first one. They just give it all away.” — Speaking at the Golden Globes about the publication of a photo of Edward and Bella in bed on their honeymoon 2. “I like the story about me being pregnant. It was in some Australian magazine, on the front page! I was like, ‘Wow, that’s just [insane].’ And it’s not even ironic. I don’t even think the article [tried to justify it]; it was just a headline. The article was just like, nothing.” — On the strange things he learns when Googling himself 1. “Lot of my crack in it!” — On his onscreen nudity in the upcoming drama, “Bel Ami” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. SXSW: All Hail Wiig! Bridesmaids Proves That Chick Flicks Don’t Have to Suck

SNL superstar Kristen Wiig breezed into Austin midnight Sunday for what director Paul Feig accurately termed “Kristen Wiig Appreciation Night” — a double header of this Friday’s Paul followed by a special work in progress screening of this summer’s Bridesmaids . The May 13 comedy marks Wiig’s first honest-to-goodness starring vehicle, an event in itself, but here’s even better news: Bridesmaids isn’t just the smart and grounded antidote to the shrill chick flicks we all hate; it’s the most raunchy, sweet and wonderfully vulgar R-rated comedy in recent memory. Bring it, Hangover 2 .

Slipknot Reveal Donnie Steele To Replace Deceased Bassist Paul Gray

‘We thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family,’ band says of returning former band mate. By Shawn Adler Slipknot Hard rock super group Slipknot have asked former member Donnie Steele to replace Paul Gray on bass for their upcoming 2011 shows, according to a statement on the band’s website . The 38-year-old Gray, who had been with the band since their inception, died last year (May 24, 2010) from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl. “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family,” the band wrote. “Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.” Known for their ostentatious performances and aggressive musical edge, the mask-wearing members of the Grammy winning band displayed a different side in an emotional press conference the day after Gray was found dead in an Iowa hotel room, remembering their friend and band mate as “the essence of the band Slipknot,” percussionist Shawn Crahan recalled. “Paul was there from the very, very beginning, and none of us would be on the path that we’re on now in life or have the sorts of life that we have without him,” he added. ” Paul loved the fans . He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He’s going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him.” Among other performances, the band will be performing at the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 21. ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ Tops Friday Box Office

Alien invasion flick bests ‘Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Rango’ to claim top spot, while animated ‘Mars Needs Moms’ tanks. By Shawn Adler Michelle Rodriguez in “Battle: Los Angeles” Photo: Sony Pictures It showcases an epic battle between aliens and humans, but it turns out that the biggest winner of the weekend isn’t going to be Aaron Eckhart or the extra-terrestrials he faces in “Battle: Los Angeles,” but an entirely different, third combatant: the film itself. Led by an all-star cast headlined by the “Thank You For Smoking” star, “Battle: Los Angeles” topped all comers at the Friday night box office with an estimated $13.5 million from 3,417 theaters. The story of a surprise war waged by aliens for control of Earth, the flick should eek out approximately $40 for the weekend and another number one opening for the star of “The Dark Knight” in his first return to big budget action. The secret to the film’s success? Not treating an alien invasion movie like an alien invasion movie, director Jonathan Liebesman told MTV News . “This is a more down and dirty alien movie,” Liebesman said. “This is like if [‘Bourne Supremacy’ director] Paul Greengrass got a camera, saw some aliens, and shot it from the point of view of a platoon. It’s literally like ‘Black Hawk Down,’ if there were aliens in there. Like Iraqi war footage, but with aliens running around.” You’d be forgiven, meanwhile, for saying of the second place film, “My, what a big gross you have,” as the Brothers Grimm by way of Stephanie Meyer revisionist fairy tale “Red Riding Hood” scared up $5.7 million to claw its way near the top. The Catherine Hardwick directed and Amanda Seyfried starring film may seem to be similar to that little Kristen Stewart movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s just “Twilight” with a cape, Seyfried told MTV. “It’s a bummer that that’s what’s happening,” Seyfried told us . “I mean, it does surround a girl coming of age in a love triangle, but that’s a lot of movies. The truth is, it’s an entirely different story.” In third place, last weekend’s winner “Rango” managed a very healthy $5.5 million. The Johnny Depp starring flick about a chameleon who finds himself leading a small desert town as sheriff should bring its total to approximately $70 million by weekend’s close. In fourth place, “The Adjustment Bureau” starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt managed a $3.4 million Friday. The biggest disappointment of the week was “Mars Needs Moms,” the newest animated film from Disney. Using motion capture technology and based on a story from Pulitzer Prize winner Berkeley Breathed, the reportedly expensive film managed just $1.8 million Friday and a fifth place finish. Among other films, “Beastly” scored $1.6 million for a sixth place finish, while “Just Go With It” managed an eighth place finish and $1.2 million. The Adam Sandler led comedy should pass $100 million sometime early next week. Rounding out the rest of the top ten, “Hall Pass” earned $1.5 million to come in seventh, “The King’s Speech” grabbed $1 million to finish ninth, and “Unknown” ran away with $975,000 to land in tenth.
