And now introducing Michael Atkinson’s weekly selections of worthwhile films available on demand… Still a Wild West of unaligned platforms, mismatched delivery systems and desperate-industry pricing schemes, Video on Demand seems to forecast the future. After all, when we envision how much convenience we will have demanded by, say, 2020, we see instant access, unlimited choices, our choice of home screens (not just our computers), and direct piping — if we don’t actually just have movies cabled right into our skulls with a Matrix hose. (All the better to project Seinfeld reruns on the backs of our eyeballs.) Sounds great, but meanwhile VOD is just another option, albeit an almost instant one. What’s new and good for the weekend, amid the usual cable dross and among the immense, inexhaustible libraries at IFC, Criterion, The Auteurs and Amazon?

Actress tells people People about being a new mother and divorcing Jesse James. By Jocelyn Vena While much of the details regarding her relationship with Jesse James , have been public knowledge, Sandra Bullock managed to keep the adoption of her son, Louis Bardo Bullock, a secret since January. And in the new issue of People, she admits even she was surprised by the fact that no one had discovered the news. “I don’t know how we got away with it,” she says about her 3-and-a-half-month-old “little man.” “He is just perfect.” In the interview, Bullock says she wanted to keep the adoption private, since she found out that Louis would be joining her family just as the buzz of awards season was gearing up and she didn’t him to be apart of the “insanity” of it all. “The first time I met Louis it was like the whole outside world just got quiet,” she recalled. “It just fit, and I never had another moment to worry again.” While the interview focused a lot on her son, she also spoke in depth about James’ infidelities and confirmed that she did file for divorce. “I had no idea about anything until that day when I got the call. It seems like a thousand years ago when this happened. All I remember thinking, ‘I need to get Louis out of here before the vultures descend,’ ” she explained. “But never in a million years did I foresee something like this happening. I wish it hadn’t, and it still doesn’t seem real.” Noting that she is adopting her son as a single parent, she says that she hopes that Louis can have a great dad like she’s seen James be to his own three kids. “I really don’t know how our paths will intersect in the future,” she said. Right now, she’s focused on raising her son, and her relationship with her future ex-husband is “a different one. A bittersweet one. One of new understanding. One of support for his recovery. EXCLUSIVE: Robert Duvall on What’s Holding Up Terry Gilliam’s Don Quixote Now

Robert Duvall visited New York today for the Tribeca premiere of his drama Get Low , and Movieline sat down for a few minutes to talk about the Oscar-winner’s typically superb work opposite Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black. (The film opens July 30 in limited release.) But Duvall also has an eye on the future — or specifically, a long-accursed Terry Gilliam project that he previously confirmed he’d take on when (or if) the director can pull it together. Perhaps not surprisingly, Duvall explained today, that could take a while.
