Jay-Z To Discuss ‘Decoded’ Memoir At New York Public Library

Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards will also speak about his memoir, “Life,” this fall. By Mawuse Ziegbe Jay-Z and Keith Richards Photo: Getty Images Jay-Z is releasing his memoir “Decoded” this fall, but the superstar lyricist will have to keep things quiet during one of his upcoming public appearances. The Brooklyn MC is slated to speak at the New York Public Library on November 15. Jigga will chat about “Decoded” as part of the “Live From the NYPL” fall series, which also features literary stars such as Toni Morrison and Zadie Smith. The library appears to be down with making some noise next season, as Jay-Z isn’t the only musical artist hitting the library: Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards will also dish about his upcoming tome, “Life,” on October 29. “We’re very excited to reveal to the public a different side of their personality — the literary side!” a rep for the library told MTV News. “Decoded,” which is scheduled to hit shelves the same month as his library appearance, is a memoir punched up by insightful explorations of Jay’s hard-hitting rhymes. The book was penned in collaboration with journalist Dream Hampton and delves into his steady rise from pushing product on the streets of Brooklyn to stacking hits as one of the most revered lyricists in the game. The publication of “Decoded” will cap a long period in which the MC’s autobiography remained in literary limbo. Hov and Hampton had initially begun work on “The Black Book” in 2003, which was set to be released in 2004 via a deal with MTV Books/ Pocket Books. Hov pulled the plug on the project in 2005. In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Jigga admitted that “Decoded,” which is now being published by Speigel & Grau , has been completed for years. The MC revealed that his hesitance to release the project stemmed from the personal nature of the subject matter, much of which Hov was confronting for the first time. “It’s too much. For the book, I was interviewed, people close to me were interviewed. So I was learning a lot of things I didn’t know as a child,” Jay-Z said. “It’s not anything I haven’t said in the past, in songs. It’s just more detailed. A song is three minutes long. A book doesn’t have to rhyme, and it has no time limit, so you can say exactly how everything went.” What do you think Jay-Z will discuss in his upcoming memoir? Let us know in the comments below! ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ Multiplayer Revealed

New trailer shows off gameplay from forthcoming first-person shooter. By Russ Frushtick Photo: Activision Activision’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” was the best-selling game of 2009, and the company is quickly following that title up with “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” which comes out on November 9. “Black Ops” developer Treyarch released the very first footage of the game’s multiplayer mode in a new trailer. The trailer, which you can watch right here , introduces brand-new gameplay elements to the “Call of Duty” franchise, including weapons, gadgets and abilities. The basics, however, seem to stay close to “Modern Warfare 2,” with kill-streak rewards and player-customized callsigns returning. Video Cameras, Ballistic Knives and More For the first time in a “Call of Duty” game, “Black Ops” will allow players to place cameras in the map as a means of surveillance. Placing a camera at a flag point, for example, will allow you and your team to see if anyone is moving in on that position. The camera’s point of view shows up as a picture-in-picture on the game screen, allowing players to continue normal actions while keeping watch on an important target. Another new addition is the ballistic knife, which can be fired at a nearby target for an easy, silent kill. Less subtle is the new crossbow, which comes loaded with exploding darts that make a mess of anything that happens to stumble into the player’s crosshairs. Two new kill-streak rewards were also on display in the latest trailer. The guided rocket is similar to the UAV rocket from “Modern Warfare 2,” but it flies at a much lower trajectory, giving players more time to choose their targets. The remote control car is another new kill-streak reward, letting players drive a foot-high buggy loaded with explosives into unsuspecting enemy bases. Replay Editor It only gets a brief nod toward end of the new trailer, the news that “Call of Duty: Black Ops” will include a replay editor is a big deal. The ability to rewatch and edit previously played matches will undoubtedly be a hit on video-sharing sites, where gameplay videos of top “Modern Warfare 2” performances flourished. No details yet on how gameplay videos will be shared, but here’s hoping that some ability to export the videos directly to the Web will be included in the system. “Call of Duty: Black Ops” has a lot to live up to after the success of “Modern Warfare 2,” but based on this first trailer, it seems like fans of last year’s game will feel right at home. Lindsay Lohan’s Bullshit Modeling of the Day

I don’t really know where Lohan found all the time to get all these modeling jobs she’s been popping up in lately, but I am pretty sure it happened before her week spent in prison. I guess this is one of the components to her revamping her image, you know a long with staging a prison sentence and rehab, all in efforts to get back on track in the role of her lifetime as the struggling pornstar Linda Lovelace, that will land her an Academy award, since she’s a household name that has reclaimed having people talk about her in recent weeks, and now this flow of pictures she took is the follow up material to keep the publicity train on track, so that people post the shit, talk about the shit, help her sell leggings, but most importantly start to make people care about her again, so that when all is said and done, she’ll be on top of her game again, when really she should be on top of dick in video, cuz that’s really what people care to watch, see, and appreciate when it comes to Lindsay Lohan….the broken Disney starlet with family issues and addictions is boring if there’s no hardcore porn clips to back it up…but this is as good as it gets today…but I know more will come in cuz otherwise the whole prison tactic was a waste of fucking time….

Lil Wayne Talks Eminem, Drake And Prison Life

‘Every time I pick up the phone to dial a number, I feel like I’m a bother, because I’m in jail,’ he tells Hot 97 of keeping in touch with friends and family. By Hillary Crosley Lil Wayne (file) Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne called in to New York’s Hot 97 radio station Tuesday evening (August 3) from Rikers Island to talk about his time behind bars, hopeful collaborations and his upcoming EP, I’m Not a Human Being, due in September. Wayne started his sentence on gun charges in March and is scheduled for release in November . “I’m calling you from Rikers Island right now, unfortunately,” Lil Wayne said over a crackling phone line to Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex . When asked about the support he’s received from fans while in jail, he said, “It’s been more than amazing. I promise that I can’t explain the love and support I’ve been getting from my fans. I never knew it was like that, and I’ve been doing this for, what, 16 years? It’s breathtaking.” Wayne went on to remind listeners and fans how to reach him while he’s locked up. “All you have to do is go on my website WeezyThanxYou.com , and I think all of my information is on there where you can write to me, and I get my mail every day,” he said. “I read as much as I can and I respond, and if you want to hear me respond, all you have to do is check back on that same website, and I have a great lady named Karen Civil that puts up my responses, she puts up updates, everything is on there. Some people might faint when they see their name on there, and they be like, ‘Oh my God!’ It’s a great thing.” He also shared what he’s been listening to — and not listening to — during his jail time. “I’ll be very honest, Flex: I don’t listen to no music. All I listen to all day, if I am listening to anything, is sports. And that ain’t because of nothing, just the simple fact that I’ve never listened to anyone else’s music but my own, and since I’m not able to do that up in here, I don’t listen to anything. I don’t listen to nothing but my thoughts.” Wayne has at least checked out Eminem’s latest album, Relapse, which he’s featured on. “Em is him, and he’s back in a major way,” he said. ” … As far as Eminem the dude, he’s a great dude. He’s been keeping up with me since I’ve been in here, and I appreciate his support.” The rapper later said he’s “a sports fanatic” who “played football and baseball, and I played football more than baseball, but I never was any good, so it’s nothing to speak about. I just have a great knowledge of the game.” Wayne had a few thoughts about dream collaborations upon his release. “I’ve been saying to myself that I really want to do a song with either Andre 3000 or I really like my man Tech N9ne from the West Coast,” he said. “Other than that, I’ve been trying to do a song with this little dude Weezy; he’s stupid.” Wayne said he stays scarce when it comes to keeping up with Young Money stars Drake and Nicki Minaj. “I call Drake at least once a week, but I actually call three or four times a week, but he only picks up for me once a week,” the MC said with a laugh. As for calls to Minaj, he jokingly said, “That being my future wife, we talk every night. Nah, the same goes for her. I don’t like to bother them in the midst of what they’re doing, because I know they have a whole lot on their plate every single day. That’s my thing with everybody. They be like, ‘Why haven’t you called me?’ But it’s because I don’t want to bother. Put in this position, I just feel like every time I pick up the phone to dial a number, I feel like I’m a bother, because I’m in jail. I don’t have nothing else to do but talk to you, and that might not be what you want to do at the time. I don’t know if that’s just a conscious thing, but … I always feel like I’m bothering. I call Mack Maine every single day, and I know I get on his nerves, but he answers every single time.” Wayne went on to describe a typical day in Rikers. “I wake up around 12 noon, I jump on the phone, call Mack, call family, call my mother, call my kids — you know I got a lot of kids to call,” he said with a dry laugh. “After that, once I start reading that fan mail, literally, I could read it all day, every day because it’s so much. That fan mail knocks off like four, five hours of the day. And then I do dinner — whatever that may be in here — I jump on the phone again, and after that, I’m through.” As for what he’s learned from his stint in prison, the MC said he’ll “definitely move more carefully. I’ll definitely take heed to my situation and my status. I mean, when I ask myself … everybody says that you’re here for a reason, and I promise you, Flex, I try to find out that reason every day. I search for it. But I think when I get out, that’ll be the only time I’ll really know the answer. Every day I look for that reason.” As for Wayne’s upcoming EP, it’s on the way. “Yes, it’s gonna drop before Carter IV, only on the Internet,” Wayne said. “This is stuff that I recorded right before I came here.” As the jail phone beeped its warning that Wayne’s interview was coming to a close, the MC thanked all his fans for their support. “I don’t want the phone to hang up on us, so I want to say thank you to all my fans, and I love you, Flex, for giving me this opportunity,” he said. “I appreciate what you’re doing, Flex. Keep doing it.” What do you think about Lil Wayne’s comments from prison? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Lil Wayne

Tiger, Kobe Tie For Most Popular Athlete

For the first time in years, Woods no longer holds the title of America’s most popular sports star. Not by himself, anyway. NBA star Kobe Bryant is now tied. Rising from fourth place last year, Kobe rose into a statistical dead heat with Tiger in a Harris Interactive poll, which Woods has won every year since 2006. Woods’ affair with Rachel Uchitel and countless others became huge news last year, and he has yet to regain the form that made him the world’s #1 golfer. He hasn’t shown much respect for the game , either. A sex scandal can’t slow down this star … or this other star! The survey among 2,227 adults was conducted online from June 14-21. Even before the debacle that was “The Decision,” LeBron James had from third to sixth. Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh, Yankees star Derek Jeter leaped from fourth to third, with the annoying, possibly retired Brett Favre in fourth. Peyton Manning rounded out the top five. Who’s your favorite overall – and which of the two stars at the top do you like better? Vote in the poll below … Which sports standout do you like better?

Bun B Says ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010’ Finalist Wiz Khalifa Is A Hit Away From Being A Huge Star

‘He’s made the connection with the people,’ the Houston rapper says of ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC’ nominee. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Shaheem Reid Bun B Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Top-five “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” pick Wiz Khalifa has been on the grind for a while but appears poised to own the first year of the decade with his buzzy mixtape Kush & OJ. The tatted-up Pittsburgh rapper has been steadily building a loyal fanbase, layering his languid flow over spacey beats and collaborating with fellow “Hottest Breakthrough MC” nominee Curren$y . Among those checking for Wiz this year is Houston O.G. Bun B, who said the rising MC is close to making it really big in the hip-hop game. “I think he’s just really that one song away from actually cracking because he’s made the connection with the people,” Bun B told MTV News about the “Taylor Gang” MC. Bun said that Khalifa’s innovative hustle, like many other young hip-hop artists, really makes use of the outsize marketing power of the Web to score fans. “It used to be you make a song and put it out and then try to connect with [the] people, but now, there’s a whole new D.I.Y. movement going on in independent music, especially in hip-hop,” Bun observed. “These young cats are taking full advantage of the opportunities with YouTube and Twitter and all these other different viral video outlets that the Internet [has] and they’re making it happen.” Bun isn’t the only lyrical heavyweight with Khalifa on his radar. Rick Ross singled out Wiz and his sometime partner-in-rhyme Curren$y for the remix to his lush summer jam, “Super High.” Wiz recently talked to Mixtape Daily about how it feels to have the Miami boss in his corner. “It was a good look for me, because hasn’t been nobody really big, anybody who’s as influential in the game right now as Ross is, saying, ‘I really f—s with Wiz,’ or, like, been seen on camera with me. That was a big power move for the both of us [Curren$y and Khalifa].” MTV News will be rolling out the top-five candidates for “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” all week — with the winner being revealed on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Summit” on Sunday at noon!
