Fans Await Little League Phenom Mo’ne Davis’ Hampton University Debut

I t’s been nearly five years since Philadelphia-bred sports phenom Mo’ne Davis took the world by storm and made history by becoming the first African American girl to play in the Little League World Series. Now, after deciding to take her talents to Hampton University last year, her fans are waiting for her highly anticipated debut on the college softball field. Coming soon to a softball field near you! In 2014—the now 17-year-old—became the first girl to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history while playing for the Philadelphia-based Taney Youth Baseball Association. Her accomplishments landed her a spot on the cover of Sports Illustrated ; making her the first Little League player to grace the front cover. Davis has also received several accolades for her achievements, including an award from Sports Illustrated Kids and being featured on ESPNW’s Impact 25 list. She was also named Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 2014. Although the softball season is months away, fans are excited for the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy graduate to kick off her collegiate athletic career. For Davis, Hampton feels like home. “The girls on the team are amazing. The coaches are amazing,” she said in an interview with The Undefeated . “It just kind of felt like home, which is what you look for in a school. Everything felt right. Since I’m spending my next four years there, I have to be comfortable.” During the 2019 softball season, the Hampton Pirates finished with a 23-25 record. Via | HipHopDX John Lennon and George Harrison might be rolling over in their graves right now. But it’s true —  Drake  has officially tied The Beatles for the second most Billboard Hot 100 singles ever. On Monday (June 17), Billboard confirmed the  Toronto Raptors superfan  earned his 34th Hot 100 Top 10 song after Chris Brown’s “No Guidance” featuring Drake debuted at No. 9 on the chart. The only artist to have more Top 10 singles than the British Fab Four and Drake is Madonna with 38. It took the pop queen 16 years to accomplish that feat, while it took the 6 God just under 10 years. The internet is literally flooded with white kids saying “ni**er” and many of them probably won’t suffer any of the aforementioned results for their actions, but today at least on of them will. ‘The Boondocks’ Reboot Should Revisit These 6 Topics To Stay Relevant

On June 23, 2014, the last episode of The Boondocks  aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Less than two months later…Ferguson happened. The uprising that occurred in the Missouri city showed the outrage people felt after another unarmed Black person, Michael Brown , was killed by the police. This time, however, people were getting organized around the country and the weeks that followed were filled with heated online debates, news coverage and a new awareness of police brutality and Black oppression. Since then, a plethora of movements have followed suit pertaining to women’s rights, LGBTQ rights and more. Tensions probably hit a national peak in 2016 when Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Could Aaron McGruder , the creator of The Boondocks, have predicted all this? Source: L. Cohen / Getty Now, in 2019, there’s even more to talk about and McGruder might partake with his signature satire in a Boondocks reboot. According to Deadline , Sony announced the reboot at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on Wednesday. They say the reboot will be a “complete re-imagining” of the previous show and it “chronicles the adventures of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.” Well…it definitely sounds interesting. With such a grand set-up, the show could be a more serialized comedy with different story arcs that last multiple episodes. But the question remains, what kind of political themes will the show cover, or will it completely abandon the hot button issues the original series was known for tackling? If politics are still the name of the game, hit the flip for six topics the show should revisit to still be relevant in 2019.
