Lil Wayne’s Jail Time Is An ‘Eye-Opener,’ Young Jeezy Says

‘It’s evident that nobody’s safe,’ Lloyd Banks says about rappers not being above the law. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne at court Monday Photo: Ray Tamarra/ Getty Images Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison following several delays, the reality is setting in for his fans and friends. No one in the hip-hop community wants to see Weezy leave, and rappers also realize they need to run tighter ships in Wayne’s absence. Young Jeezy said he’ll not only miss Wayne’s work ethic and music, but also his friend’s rebellious attitude. “Wayne, like I like to call myself, is a trap-aholic,” Young Jeezy told MTV News last week in New York, hours before he brought Weezy onstage at Madison Square Garden as a surprise guest during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. That performance — which also included Nicki Minaj and Drake — would be Wayne’s last before he went to jail. “He stays in the studio, he stays working,” the Snowman added. “We’ll definitely miss that. At the same time, we’ll definitely miss what he brings to the game as far as him just being Wayne and doing what the f— he wanna do. We definitely gonna miss that. But it’s just an eye-opener to all of us. Instead of targeting the hustlers and the people trying to make it in the streets, now that the streets is dried up, now [the police] are targeting the entertainers and the athletes, what have you. Real talk, not trying to preach to the choir, we gotta be careful out here. What I mean to my culture is more than me proving a point.” Diddy echoed Jeezy’s sentiment that police are keeping a very close eye on the hip-hop community. “I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person. Whenever we get in trouble, we’re in the public spotlight. So hopefully there’s a lot of kids out there who could learn from any mistakes that we may have put ourselves in, even if we’re not guilty of the crime sometimes. We are human. People have to learn: ‘Make sure you know where you’re going, who you riding with, what the situation is.’ We’re targets. I’m just happy he doesn’t have to do a lot of time and that he’ll be out, and hopefully he’ll use the time wisely and use it in a positive way.” “It’s evident that nobody’s safe. That’s reality,” Lloyd Banks added about rappers not being above the law, with Lil Wayne going to jail on the heels of T.I. and Gucci Mane. Banks himself has an assault case pending in Canada. “People make mistakes, have poor judgments sometimes, and things happen. Hopefully, all those artists can bounce back from it stronger and use that time [in jail] to be more creative. Come back home and get right back to where they was at. It’s something that’s always been around. We been talking about [rappers going to jail] since Tupac.” Related Videos Wayne Goes To Jail: Celebs React Related Photos Lil Wayne’s Battle With His Gun Possession Case Related Artists Young Jeezy Lil Wayne

Weezy was supposed to be sentenced on weapons charges Tuesday afternoon, but after a basement fire at the Manhattan Criminal Court building , his his court date was delayed . On Tuesday night, instead of spending time in his hotel room watching pay-per-view, Wayne made his way to Madison Square Garden , performing with Young Jeezy, Nicki Minaj and Drake during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. After the show, Weezy hit the studio before going out to party. New York Daily News reporters say they spotted him at the club 1Oak with his Young Money family and Trey Songz. Fire That Delayed Lil Wayne Sentencing Ruled An Accident

Smoke was caused by an electrical miscue in the basement of the courthouse. By Jayson Rodriguez New York City Fire Marshalls enter the Manhattan Criminal Court building in Manhattan Tuesday Photo: Timothy A. Clary/ Getty Images The fire that caused Lil Wayne’s sentencing to be delayed twice this week has been deemed an accident, according to the New York Daily News. The smoke was caused by an electrical miscue in the basement of the courthouse, and as a result, the building was evacuated. The Manhattan Criminal Court building was later closed for the afternoon, which resulted in a number of hearings to be postponed, most notably Lil Wayne’s. Scaled-down proceedings took place Wednesday (March 3), but an official confirmed to MTV News in the morning that the Cash Money Records lyricist would not be sentenced until Monday . The courthouse was closed Wednesday as operations moved to a smaller building across the street. “For losing the biggest courthouse in the state, we’re doing pretty well,” a spokesman for the Office of Court Administration told the Daily News. “We expected it to be a bit messy, but we’re still up and running.” Lil Wayne will now have through the weekend until he faces Judge Charles H. Solomon. The rapper reached a plea deal with prosecutors in November, and as a result, he will serve a one-year prison term. He is expected to turn himself in immediately after formal sentencing. On Tuesday night, Wayne appeared at Madison Square Garden alongside Young Jeezy during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. As of press time, it’s unclear if the superstar MC will stay in New York or return to Miami, where he resides. His lawyer, Stacey Richman, suggested Florida would be better to spend his remaining free time. “Maybe he’s going to go home for the weekend,” Richman said. “I think I would — the weather’s nicer down there.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne

Jay-Z Feels The Hometown Love At Madison Square Garden Show

Jay gets some help from Young Jeezy, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and other special guests. By Shaheem Reid Jay-Z performs at Madison Square Garden Tuesday Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images NEW YORK — There is always palpable exhilaration whenever Jay-Z plays Madison Square Garden. Tuesday night (March 2) was another sold-out show at MSG as Hov’s Blueprint 3 Tour arrived in town. After Trey Songz played up to the ladies with his set, there was a short intermission. Like lightning — boom! The Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” video began playing on two big screens that hung over the stage, and a 10-minute countdown began perfectly in sync with the classic hip-hop track. Hova chants started several minutes prior to that. Finally, with no time left on the clock, Jay’s music began. He was greeted with a deafening roar of approval. “Feel it coming in the air,” Rihanna’s recorded voice from “Run This Town” blasted through the arena. Jay rose from underneath the stage, rolling his head around his shoulders like a young Mike Tyson getting ready for a prize fight. Jay, like Tyson in the ’80s knows he’s a dominant force in any ring, any arena, but especially at the Garden, he’s unstoppable. Jay then brought out Memphis Bleek and told his former neighbor in the Marcy Projects he wanted him to see something special. Like a wizard, Jigga waved his hand around the arena and made fans scream. “I wanna be careful how I phrase this, because it’s one of my heroes,” Jay said. “Madison Square Garden used to be Run’s House. But ‘Run’s House’ is now on MTV. Madison Square Garden is now ‘The House That Hov Built.’ ” His assertion was backed up with triumphant showings of “On to the Next One,” “U Don’t Know,” “99 Problems” and “Show Me What You Got.” “Empire State of Mind” felt special in the Garden. Jay’s performance of the record filled the arena with hometown pride. It’s the closest feeling the crowd at the Garden will get to the Knicks winning the championship … at least until LeBron James signs with the team next year (fingers crossed). James was in attendance, along with his Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Shaquille O’Neal, Rick Ross, Gwyneth Paltrow, Diddy and Cash Money Records CEO the Birdman. Birdman was on hand to cheer on his “son” Lil Wayne. Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj had the show-stealing moment as part of Young Jeezy’s set. The Snowman also brought out Akon. Jeezy came out about 40 minutes into Jay’s show, and the two did “Real as It Gets” from Blueprint 3. After handing Jeezy the keys to MSG for a while, Jay came back and traded rhymes with his Southern partner on the remixes of “Put On” and “My President.” Trey Songz came out with Jay as well to help out on “Heart of the City” and “Already Home.” The Blueprint 3 Tour stopped with an “overtime” session that saw Jay take his fans back as far as the Reasonable Doubt days with “Ain’t No N—a” and “Can I Live.” “Am I going too far back? This moment is only for us,” he added of himself and fans of his first LP. Hov then brought it up a few years for “Big Pimpin’,” with Jay urging everyone to wave whatever they had from rags to bandanas to hats in the air, Carnivale-style. “I don’t take it for granted,” Jay said of the fan love. “I appreciate everyone in the building tonight. Thank you, and I hope we return the love tenfold. The legendary MC then asked to do one more record: “Encore.” Hov is going to be in the Tri-State Area with a few shows during these next two weeks. He plays Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel as well as the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island next week. Jay-Z’s NYC Show Will ‘Shut Everything Down,’ Memphis Bleek Says

Hov is returning to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. By Shaheem Reid Memphis Bleek Photo: MTV News By this time on Tuesday, Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek should be preparing to go on in their house. Hov’s BP3 tour hits New York’s Madison Square Garden that night — a place where the Jiggaman has astounded thousands of fans with a multitude of guest spots , surprises and even a “farewell” concert . While no one knows what Jay will pull out of his bag of tricks, Memphis Bleek — who always performs with Jay in concert — says to expect an evolution of sound. “This run is gonna shut everything down, because everything is live now. No more playback. The band plays everything. You gotta come check it out,” Jay’s former neighbor in the Marcy Projects revealed. Bleek also said that while Hov parades out an endless array of classics, there are some songs he himself wants to hear that didn’t make the setlist. “Now that’s what I don’t have,” Bleek said about input on what Jay performs. “Jay, he don’t be listening to me. He clips a lot of records, a lot of records Jay don’t do that I be wanting him to do. If Jay did ‘Imaginary Players’ — you know what will happen in that building? ‘Streets Is Watching,’ records like that, they don’t come on. That boy’s hit catalog is crazy.” Over the weekend, Jay, Bleek and opening acts Young Jeezy and Trey Songz hit the Philips Arena in Atlanta. The sold-out crowd saw Jeezy bring out surprise guest Plies; Trey soothed the ladies and Jay threw knockout blows such as “D.O.A.” and “On to the Next One.” Bleek says traveling with Jay from city to city is a lot different for him this time. “For me it’s a new movement,” he said. “They ain’t let me bring my bus out, my Gs out this time — they clipped my bus! They say I gotta ride on the G5 this time everywhere. Usually I’m stuck on the middle of the road, nowhere with my peoples. Now, I’m riding with the A group. “Catch me after tour, I might be acting different,” he added with a laugh. “I’m moving up. I might act different: They say when you blow up, you act different.” After the BP3 tour finishes in Los Angeles late this month, Bleek said he wants to embark on a solo tour to promote his upcoming album, The Process. “We gotta get the music out first,” Memph determined. “Once we get the music out, the shows will come. I turn down a lot of shows because I don’t want to perform old records. I’m tired of singing ‘Is That Your Chick,’ ‘Do My …’ I been doing that. I need to add to the catalog. That’s what The Process is gonna do.” Related Artists Memphis Bleek Jay-Z

John Mayer Thanks Fans For ‘Believing’ In Him At NYC Concert

‘It’s a clean me now, people, clean me,’ he tells Madison Square Garden crowd weeks after controversial Playboy comments. By Dana Kasser John Mayer performs at Madison Square Garden Thursday Photo: Alyssa Scheinson / Splash News NEW YORK — The fans at Madison Square Garden didn’t let a little snow keep them from John Mayer’s sold-out concert on Thursday night (February 25). Mayer has also had some adversity come his way over the past few weeks, after the backlash from his controversial comments in Playboy magazine . Mayer took a moment onstage to thank his fans for believing in him through the uproar. “I hate to come off like an a–hole ever, and thank you guys for believing that I am not an a–hole,” he told the crowd. “Never, ever in my entire life did I ever think that it would be a good idea to be an a–hole. But you know what? There’s plenty of a–holes who think the same thing, so I have to thank you.” Mayer said he’s ready for a fresh start: “It’s a clean me now, people, clean me.” When Mayer wasn’t thanking his fans for braving the elements, he and his five-piece band were rocking out the stage to a set list of songs from his current album, Battle Studies, as well as hits from his past, including “Waiting on the World to Change” and “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” He even succumbed to a section of cheering fans calling out for him to perform “City Love” from his breakthrough 2001 album, Room for Squares. Even if the public isn’t convinced by his numerous apologies , Mayer had the Madison Square Garden concertgoers on their feet from show-opener “Heartbreak Warfare” to his encore — snow boots and all. The singer/songwriter even checked in with the crowd on Twitter after the show: “MSG crowd, will you tweet me when you get home safe? It’s bad out. Oh and HOLY SHNIKES. You were unreal tonight.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: John Mayer Related Artists John Mayer

Ludacris Says He And Tiger Woods Should Talk

‘Let’s go play some golf and talk about it,’ Atlanta MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Ludacris and Sway Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Ludacris poked fun at Tiger Woods’ sex scandal on the intro to his new track “Sexting” from his forthcoming Battle of the Sexes album (due March 9), intimidating the embattled golf star’s frantic voice mail to one of his alleged mistresses. But the Atlanta rapper said there are no hard feelings behind the jab. “If I’m making fun of Tiger Woods, I’m also making fun of myself,” Luda told MTV News from Madison Square Garden before he took the stage Wednesday (February 24). On the Neptunes-produced song, “Sexting,” Luda raps about his own tale of sex addiction. “My girl went through my cell phone,” he spits, explaining how he got caught. Throughout the track, the Luda-as-Tiger voice mail plays. Luda said the track is only a reflection of reality. “This is what happens,” he explained of the inspiration behind the song. “So I’m just bringing to light what’s really going on in the world .” So, does Luda have a take on Tiger’s message to his mistress? “It’s very entertaining,” he laughed. “And I do feel as though he may have handled it wrong.” Ludacris, however, said he’d offer Tiger some advice — especially if the golf legend feels slighted by song. “I would say, ‘Let’s go play some golf and talk about it,’ ” he offered. “I take that back — I’d say, ‘Let’s go to the sex-rehab place together and let’s discuss it. Let me know where your sex-rehab place is and I’ll let you know where mine is. We got some things to get off our chest.’ Related Artists Ludacris
