Fair Or Foul?? Transgender Teen Sues South Carolina DMV For Making Him Remove Makeup To Get His License

Should the teen have been forced to take off his makeup ? Transgender Teen Sues South Carolina DMV For Removing His Makeup Via Gawker reports: A South Carolina 16-year-old is suing the state Department of Motor Vehicles, claiming he was told to remove his makeup before he could have his driver’s license photo taken. Chase Culpepper wears makeup and women’s clothing nearly every day, and identifies as gender non-conforming. The teen says he was told he couldn’t get his driver’s license unless he posed for a clean-faced photo, because his makeup could be considered a “disguise.” “They said he was wearing a disguise,” said Chase’s mom, Teresa Culpepper, who filed suit on his behalf, “It was very hurtful. He was absolutely devastated. That’s who he is 24/7.” The lawsuit (PDF), which names the director of the South Carolina DMV and the manager of the Anderson, S.C., branch where Chase got his license, asks that Chase be allowed to retake his photo with the makeup on. A DMV spokesperson told WYFF that the employees followed a policy that’s been in place since 2009. It reads, “At no time will an applicant be photographed when it appears that he or she is purposely altering his or her appearance so that the photo would misrepresent his or her identity.” Chase and his mom say it’s the photo without makeup that misrepresents his identity. Their lawsuit also seeks to have that policy changed, claiming it’s unconstitutionally overboard and gives too much discretion to DMV employees. It’s 2014 and gender-nonconforming people are going to be a lot more common. These government agencies had better get used to it. Do you think the teen should of had to remove his makeup?

Goin’ For The Gold Hunty! Cleveland Hosts 9th Annual “Gay Games” To Bolster Same Sex Marriage Reform

Play ball(s) ! Cleveland Hosts 9th Annual Gay Games Via RawStory Thousands of athletes and fans are converging on Cleveland on Saturday for the opening ceremonies of the 9th Gay Games, bringing the international event to a state that has become a key battleground for gay marriage rights. A federal appeals court in Cincinnati this week heard arguments on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage bans in Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and Kentucky. Gay marriage supporters have seen a series of legal victories around the country since the Supreme Court ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional last year. Cleveland was selected in 2009 over Boston, Washington and other large U.S. cities to host the games, held every four years since they debuted in 1982 in San Francisco. Games co-chairman Steve Sokany said he believes the selection of the Midwestern city was about changing hearts and minds and it has received unprecedented corporate sponsorship. “The tide is turning and I think these games can have a tremendous impact,” Sokany said in an interview. “We are trying to change stereotypes.” Public opinion in Ohio on gay rights has shifted over the past decade, reflecting similar changes in other parts of the country. Ohio voters adopted the gay marriage ban in 2004, but recent polls show a majority of Ohio voters support allowing same-sex couples to marry. For those wondering, no, the “Gay Games” is not playing Twister with Michael Sam. In fact… Organizers expect about 25,000 athletes, spectators and volunteers to gather for the games in Cleveland and nearby Akron over the next eight days, injecting an estimated $50 million into the local economy. The competitions include a triathlon and a marathon, as well as softball, volleyball, darts, bowling and cheering. Figure skating is a crowd favorite, according to organizers. The Games feature a wide variety of athletes – young and old, male and female and both gay and straight. Wonder is Lebron James and Johnny Manziel will be making an appearance since this event is all up in their backyard. No pun intended.

Les-Bi-Honest: Female Yahoo Employee Sues For Sexual Harassment Claiming Her Female Supervisor Forced Her To Lick The Box

Dang, isht really goes down in Silicon Valley… Female Yahoo! Executive Sued For Sexual Harassment By Female Employee Maria Zhang, Senior Director of Engineering at Yahoo, is being sued for sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The complaint was filed Friday by Nan Shi, an engineer supervised by Zhang, and also names Yahoo as a defendant. According to the San Jose Mercury News: In her complaint, Nan Shi says she was working as a principal software engineer when the supervisor, industry veteran Maria Zhang, forced her to have sex against her will on multiple occasions, promising her “a bright future at Yahoo” if she acquiesced. After coercing her to have “oral and digital sex,” Shi says when she finally resisted Zhang’s advances, the executive retaliated by giving her a bad performance review and removing her as a project lead. When she reported the abuse to Yahoo, Shi says, the company did nothing to stop it, and then put her on what eventually became an unpaid leave followed by final termination that took effect Friday. According to Shi and her Sunnyvale attorney, Matthew Fisher, Shi had been working for Zhang’s mobile-app startup in Seattle and when Yahoo purchased it in 2013, both women came down to work for Yahoo. Shi says Zhang told her to move into a temporary Yahoo housing unit in Sunnyvale. “While staying with Plaintiff, Zhang coerced Plaintiff to have oral and digital sex with her on multiple occasions against her will, even after Plaintiff told her she did not want to have sex,” the complaint alleges. “Zhang told Plaintiff she would have a bright future at Yahoo if she had sex with her. She also stated she could take away everything from her including her job, stocks, and future if she did not do what she wanted.” The complaint alleges that Zhang, as Shi’s manager, forced her “to work grueling hours and compose work emails over the weekend at the apartment, sometimes right after sex.” Zhang did not respond to a request for comment. But a Yahoo spokesperson said “There is absolutely no basis or truth to the allegations against Maria Zhang. Maria is an exemplary Yahoo executive, and we intend to fight vigorously to clear her name.” Sounds CRAZY!!! Do you think Yahoo! will end up settling this out of court? How embarrassing. If Shi is telling the truth Zhang should be ashamed of herself. Here’s Zhang’s original tweet about the acquisition that landed both her and Shi at Yahoo. Shutterstock /Twitter

Race Matters: TIME Magazine Writer Pens Op-Ed Telling White Gay Men To Stop Acting Like Sassy Black Women

Dear White Gays : Stop Stealing Black Female Culture… Time Magazine Writer Tells Gay White Men To Stop Acting Like Black Women Via Time Magazine reports: You are not a black woman, and you do not get to claim either blackness or womanhood. There is a clear line between appreciation and appropriation I need some of you to cut it the hell out. Maybe, for some of you, it’s a presumed mutual appreciation for Beyoncé and weaves that has you thinking that I’m going to be amused by you approaching me in your best “Shanequa from around the way” voice. I don’t know. What I do know is that I don’t care how well you can quote Madea, who told you that your booty was getting bigger than hers, how cute you think it is to call yourself a strong black woman, who taught you to twerk, how funny you think it is to call yourself Quita or Keisha or for which black male you’ve been bottoming — you are not a black woman, and you do not get to claim either blackness or womanhood. It is not yours. It is not for you. White people are not racially oppressed in the United States of America. Nothing about whiteness will get a white person in trouble the way blackness can get a black person shot down in his tracks. These are just facts. It’s not entirely the fault of white people. It’s not as if you can help being born white in America, any more than I can help being born black in America. The truth is that America is a country that operates on systems of racism in which we all participate, whether consciously or unconsciously, to our benefit or to our detriment, and that system allows white people to succeed. This system also creates barriers so that minorities, such as black people, have a much harder time being able to do things like vote and get houses and not have to deal with racists and stuff. You know. Casual. At the end of the day, if you are a white male, gay or not, you retain so much privilege. What is extremely unfairly denied you because of your sexuality could float back to you, if no one knew that you preferred the romantic and sexual company of men over women. (You know what I’m talking about. Those “anonymous” torsos on Grindr, Jack’d and Adam4Adam, show very familiar heterosexual faces to the public.) The difference is that the black women with whom you think you align so well, whose language you use and stereotypical mannerisms you adopt, cannot hide their blackness and womanhood to protect themselves the way that you can hide your homosexuality. We have no place to hide, or means to do it even if we desired them. All of this being said, you should not have to stop liking the things you like. This is not an attempt to try to suck the fun out of your life. Appreciating a culture and appropriating one are very, very different things, with a much thicker line than some people think, if you use all of the three seconds it takes to be considerate before you open your mouth. If you love some of the same things that some black women love, by all means, you and your black girlfriends go ahead and rock the hell out. Regardless of what our privileges and lack of privileges are, regardless of the laws and rhetoric that have attempted to divide us, we are equal, even though we aren’t the same, and that is okay. Claiming our identity for what’s sweet without ever having to taste its sour is not. Breathing fire behind ugly stereotypes that reduce black females to loud caricatures for you to emulate isn’t, either. So, you aren’t a strong black woman, or a ghetto girl, or any of that other foolery that some of you with trash Vine accounts try to be. It’s okay. You don’t have to be. No one asked you to be. You weren’t ever meant to be. What you can be, however, is part of the solution. Check your privilege. Try to strengthen the people around you. Discuss…..
