Gay Therapy Ministry Designed To Cure Same-Sex Attraction Shuts Down A Christian ministry program that was put in place for the purpose of curing gay people of their sexual orientation has finally decided to close its’ door after 37 years in practice. via NBC News Former participants in a controversial program aimed at ridding people of their h*m*se*uality congratulated its leader for deciding to shut down its ministry, but other groups said there was a role for the “reparative therapy” used in the “ex-gay movement.” The Christian ministry, Exodus International, was founded in 1976 and claims more than 200 branches, churches and counselors in the United States and Canada. It insisted that people could overcome same-sex attraction through prayer and therapy. But mainstream psychiatric and medical groups have said that program, also known as “reparative therapy,” is not founded in science and can be harmful. The American Psychiatric Association said 15 years ago that it could cause depression, anxiety and self-depressive behavior in patients. In a statement, Exodus International, which describes itself as the oldest and largest group of its kind, said that its board of directors had decided to close down after a year of talking and praying about its place in a changing culture. Former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash is still receiving major accolades for his work on “Sesame Street” despite facing a string of accusations from young men who say he took advantage of them sexually. Via Fox News reports : Kevin Clash, the Elmo puppeteer who resigned amid allegations that he sexually abused underage boys, won three Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on “Sesame Street.” Clash won as outstanding performer in a children’s series at the creative arts ceremony held Friday night. He shared trophies for outstanding pre-school children’s series and directing in a children’s series, giving Clash 26 Daytime Emmys for his work on the venerable PBS show. He played Elmo for 28 years before quitting last November. Clash’s lawyer has said that related lawsuits filed against the entertainer are without merit. The main Daytime Emmys ceremony is Sunday in Beverly Hills. Congrats Kevin! You might not have a job but at least you get to go out on top! WENN

After signing the WNBA’s Brittney Griner to a contract that has her market and wear men’s clothing as well as women’s apparel, and makes her the company’s first openly gay athlete, Nike released the second edition of its #BeTrue line of shoes and sportswear last week. T he line, which openly gay NBA player Jason Collins wore to Boston’s Pride Parade this weekend , is “in celebration of sport as a universal language,” according to Nike, and includes shoes, t-shirts, and flip-flops with rainbow prints and the line’s #BeTrue name. Future’s boo-thang is in the hot seat again over a missed performance , promoters beware… Ciara Sued By L.A. Gay Bar For Flaking On Club Appearance According to TMZ reports : Ciara is being sued by a West Hollywood gay bar … which claims the singer left them high and dry when she backed out of a gay event during L.A. Pride week … TMZ has learned. The nightclub going after Ciara is “The Factory” — which, according to one Yelp reviewer, is always packed with “gays” who “know how to party.” According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Ciara signed a $10,000 deal to appear at The Factory on June 7 (tonight) … one day before she’s supposed to perform on the main stage at the 2013 L.A. Pride parade. Factory says Ciara had mentioned that she couldn’t “perform” at Factory due to restrictions in her contract with the L.A. Pride event … but made it seem like making an “appearance” would be totally kosher. But Factory says … Ciara unexpectedly pulled the plug on the whole thing on June 3, leaving the nightclub without a star for its big Friday night pre-gay parade bash. Now, Factory is suing Ciara for breach of contract — and want her to pay for all the money the club spent to promote her appearance PLUS the cash they’re losing out on thanks to Ciara’s last-minute bail. Tsk, tsk Ci-Ci. Of course, there are 3 sides to every story, his, hers, and the truth… Ciara’s rep tells TMZ … the lawsuit is bogus because Ciara backed out before a deal was ever finalized. A rep for the singer tells us, “Ciara’s commitment to perform at L.A. Gay Pride on Saturday night prevented her from making such a Friday night appearance. Despite being notified early last week that Ciara could not appear, the Factory continued to market and promote Ciara’s appearance.” “The reason for the continued marketing/promotion is unclear, as it is not known why the Factory would intend to continue to mislead the public, to cause damage to the L.A.
