‘Black Women Film Summit’ Photos The inaugural Black Women Film Summit recently took place in Atlanta and brought together an astute and esteemed group of women celebrating their contributions to cinema. The Summit kicked off with a screening of Centric’s “Single Ladies” at Spelman College’s Cosby Auditorium Thursday hosted by Stacii Jae and Lamman Rucker that was attended by the cast of “Sorority Sisters”…. and the next day was the highly-anticipated “Untold Stories Luncheon,” which honored the achievements of casting director Robi Reed, 135th Street Agency founder Shante Bacon, Black Women Film Network Chairman Emeritus Tomika DePriest, Georgia Film & TV Sourcebook publisher Tia Powell and film producer Will Packer who posed with Kandi Burruss. Tawanna Easley, Dominique Boyd and Erica Lamberson, young filmmakers and straight-A students, were also in attendance and awarded scholarships to further their careers in film… and the next day the Summit closed with independent film screenings and a performance from “Empire’s” V. Bozeman. Top honors were given to projects from female directors Laila Petrone, Spelman grad Brittany Fennell, Kiandra Parks, Kimberly Townes and LaShunda Smith. Son Of Former Chicago Bears Player Adrian Peterson Dies Of Cancer So sad. Former NFL player Adrian Peterson (of the Bears rather than the Vikings) has lost his son to an inoperable brain tumor . Via WSBtv : The 7-year-old son of former Chicago Bears running back and Georgia Southern standout Adrian Peterson passed away on Tuesday following his battle with brain cancer. He made the announcement on social media Tuesday. “#Ajsoars is in Heaven, where he belongs…#ajsoars #P3 #MyFirstSuperHero,” Peterson posted on his Facebook page Tuesday morning. He was diagnosed in June 2014, when he was just 6 years old. The Peterson family received an outpouring of support through social media, as they publicly documented the young boy’s heath struggles. Since leaving the NFL, Adrian Peterson has devoted his life to helping others. The Adrian Peterson Foundation is a nonprofit foundation that helps needy children. The internet community returned the favor, raising more than $40,000 for A.J.’s medical expenses in just the past 7 months. In February 2015, AJ was named an honorary officer with the Round Lake Police Department in a ceremony with Round Lake police and Make-A-Wish. Peterson was a star running back for Georgia Southern from 1998-2001, and played for the Chicago Bears from 2002-2009. Peterson also had brief stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the Virginia Destroyers. It must be so hard for him to have to bury his child. Our thoughts are with him and his family. WSB TV

Police were called to Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall (of course!) where an unidentified suspect made out with the lingerie loot estimated to be worth more than $10,000. Somebody is CLEARLY getting lucky… The AJC reports: Atlanta police are searching for a shoplifter who appears to have Valentine’s Day sales in mind. A woman pilfered 785 pairs of panties at the Victoria’s Secret at Lenox Square Mall on Saturday, Officer Ralph Woolfolk said Thursday. The suspected thief put the panties in three shopping bags in a raid on the store lasting two hours and absconded, Woolfolk said. Retail for the panties was estimated at more than $10,000. Atlanta detectives hope the public can help and have released surveillance photos of the suspect, described as a black woman wearing a red hat, a white and black T-shirt, a black jacket, blue jeans, and red and white tennis shoes. Anyone who knows the identity of the individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
