Moguai Talks Revved-Up ‘In N’ Out’ Collabo With Tommy Trash

German DJ tells MTV News of creating big new sound on song’s re-edit to play for summer festival crowds. By Nick Philippou Moguai Photo: Thomas Niedermueller/ Getty Images EDM fans worldwide know Moguai as one of the most diverse and prolific music-makers on deadmau5’s Mau5trap label, an epicenter of EDM creativity. MTV News caught up with the German DJ recently, and he gave us all the details on his latest album, MPire, and on his synth-centric collaboration with Tommy Trash called “In N’ Out,” including their revved up re-edit that’s available on iTunes and is hovering high up on the Beatport charts. “We did [the track] three and a half years ago in Germany. I know him only from touring of Australia, and in Germany or Europe nobody knew him at that time,” Moguai told MTV News. “We did it, but it never came out. So I put it on the album, and right now it fits perfectly in the time.” Moguai said that “In N’ Out” landing on his album is the kind of happy coincidence that always happens when DJs tour together. He added that including the track on his album was even more exciting after Trash had a huge year in 2011, with tracks like “The End” and “Cascade” becoming staples in DJ sets around the world. “In N’ Out” works well with MPire ‘s melting pot of sound, which ranges from the quintessential progressive sound in “Lyme” to electro-house euphoria on the album’s title track. Moguai told MTV News that they wanted to have a really big new sound on their edit of “In N’ Out” for the huge festival crowds over the summer. Moguai’s adding more U.S. tour dates this summer. He’ll be making his first summer tour stop on June 8 at Level in Kelowna, British Columbia. Then he’s off to Chicago on June 9 to play Vision before hitting a plethora of festivals and nightclubs. “I think EDM has found a new home here in America, but it’s like the beginning, like hip-hop and R&B,” he said. “It’s a cultural thing right now. It won’t disappear anymore.” Moguai has seen EDM grow into the mainstream in his native Germany, and he sees many parallels between the explosion of EDM in America and what Europe experienced nearly two decades ago. “We had it in Germany,” Moguai told MTV News. “We’re still having it, but it feels like back in the days, back in the early ’90s, you know, when we started with Love Parade and with the Mayday. It began with 500 people around Berlin, around Brandenburg, and from there the next year it was 5000, then 50,000, then 500,000, then 1.5 million, then 2 million, you know, and it grew up. [It] feels quite the same [energy] here.” Related Artists Moguai

Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth: A Timeline Of Love

Before Miley and Liam walk down the aisle, MTV News walks down memory lane. By Jocelyn Vena Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus Photo: Getty Images While Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are now engaged after three years together, their road to wedded bliss has been a rocky one, with several breakups and reconciliations. Before Miley, 19, and Liam, 22, walk down the aisle, let’s take a moment to walk down memory lane and remember their ups, downs and everything in between. Summer 2009 : Cyrus met “The Hunger Games” star on the set of “The Last Song.” They began dating shortly after she ended a nine-month relationship with model Justin Gaston and briefly reconciled with Nick Jonas . October 2009 : Soon after beginning their romance, Hemsworth was reportedly the catalyst behind Cyrus leaving Twitter . November 2009 : Though they kept the romance quiet for as long as they could, it wasn’t until November that Cyrus, then 16, addressed their relationship. “It sucks when your personal life becomes public,” she told Seventeen magazine . “So I’m finding ways to make my personal and private life more of my life — which is one of the reasons why I deleted my Twitter. We’ve decided that any type of relationship that we have, we will always just keep it very DL. First and foremost, we are best friends, so that’s what I tell people all the time.” March 2010 : Miley opened up a lot more about the Aussie actor while she was out promoting “The Last Song,” telling Ellen DeGeneres she fell for him pretty quickly. She later added in an interview with Teen Vogue, “I think we’re both deeper than normal people — what they think and how they feel. He’s very grateful for what he has, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that too.” June 2010 : Cyrus sat down with MTV News and opened up about the influence Hemsworth had over her album Can’t Be Tamed, which she released that month. “There are a lot of songs that are about Liam,” she said, later adding, “All of them are about him in a way, but it’s also about past relationships that you gotta get over and move on and just about freeing yourself from anything that you feel holds you back. Just let go of anything that’s not going to help you in your future and … always keep going forward.” August 2010 : While they went strong for about a year, Cyrus and Hemsworth broke-up for the first time — but they reportedly reconciled one month later. And even back then, Cyrus was denying rumors that they were engaged . November 2010 : Cyrus and Hemsworth split again a few months later. April 2011 : After some time apart (and Cyrus’ controversial bong video , in which she thought she saw Hemsworth at a party, in December 2010), the couple couldn’t stay away from each other for very long and reunited. February 2012 : In an interview with Details magazine in February 2012, Hemsworth opened up about falling for his lady love. “What happened happened, and we’ve been together ever since,” he said of filming “The Last Song.” “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.” March 2012 : This isn’t the first time this year that engagement rumors have followed the couple. Cyrus and Hemsworth denied similar reports earlier this year. “I’m not engaged,” Cyrus said. “I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to [talk] about! It’s a topaz, people!” June 2012 : Now that they are engaged — for real this time — it might be a while before the big day. They are each busy with their respective careers. He’s stacking up several film projects, including “Empire State,” which he’s currently shooting in New Orleans. He will also film the thriller “Paranoia” with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman and then work begins on the second “Hunger Games” flick. Meanwhile, Miley is working on a new album. All that work doesn’t seem to make her less excited for this new chapter in their relationship. “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” she said in a statement about their May 31 engagement. Share your well-wishes for the couple in the comments below! Related Photos A Look Back: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’: Counting Down To The Trailer

First official look at highly anticipated flick starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz will air tonight. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio in “Django Unchained” Photo: The Weinstein Co. Quentin Tarantino ‘s next film, ” Django Unchained ,” has been considered one of the most anticipated films of the year since the director revealed the controversial log line. From the beginning, it sounded like quintessential Tarantino, and one star-studded round of casting later, it’s now a can’t-miss movie of 2012. The first trailer for “Django” is set to premiere at 7:30 p.m. ET tonight (June 6) on “Entertainment Tonight,” and if that doesn’t mean something to you, it really, really should. For those unfamiliar with the story, Django, played by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx , is a newly freed slave who finds a mentor in German dentist/bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz ) and must save his still-enslaved wife from an evil plantation owner (soon-to-be Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio ). Though he’s flirted with the genre’s conventions before, “Django Unchained” will be Tarantino’s first full-on Western — but, this being a Tarantino movie, there’s a twist: The story largely takes place in the pre-Civil War South, creating a new genre all together, what Tarantino calls a “Southern.” Much of the look of the film, like “Inglourious Basterds” before it, borrows from the Westerns coming out of Italy during the 1960s and 1970s, the so-called “spaghetti Westerns.” “Entertainment Tonight” aired a preview to the trailer Tuesday night, and the footage did not disappoint. The preview showed Foxx as Django as he’s being freed from slavery by Schultz and a scene from later in the film, while the pair collects their first bounty. The same scene played for journalists at last month’s Cannes Film Festival, and it contains a line sure to become one of the most remembered from the film, so keep an eye out. (Just remember: “The ‘D’ is silent.”) The shootouts in “Django” — and oh, will there be shootouts! — are sure to have a highly stylized look to them and will likely be a centerpiece of the trailer. Based on the preview and reactions from Cannes, DiCaprio will be the one to watch, and he is on display in the short clip. After being unable to star as Hans Landa in “Basterds,” DiCaprio fought for the role of the evil Calvin Candie. The role is probably the most villainous of DiCaprio’s career, and he seems to be enjoying it quite a bit. Candie is a loud character that will provide DiCaprio with a ton of great lines like “Gentlemen, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.” But make no mistake about it. Candie is a bad man, so this will definitely be a different side of DiCaprio. Expect lots of gunplay and even more DiCaprio in this first preview since these will be the centerpieces of what may be one of the more bizarre releases of the year, but knowing Tarantino, it will also be one of the most exciting. Check out everything we’ve got on “Django Unchained.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Greta Gerwig & Stars Turn Out for NYC Premiere of Lola Versus

Current “It-Girl” Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman and Zoe Lister Jones were among the cast who turned up for the New York premiere Tuesday night of director Daryl Wein’s Lola Versus , hosted by the Cinema Society. A bumper crop of other actors and socialites also joined in on the fun at the screening in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, including Zachary Quinto, Noah Baumbach, Olivia Munn, Parker Posey, Russell Simmons, Eve Plumb, Jesse Peretz, Gaby Hoffman, Ed Droste (lead singer of Grizzly Bear) for the screening and after-party at the Boom Boom Room atop the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. In the film, Gerwig plays Lola who is suddenly dumped by her fiance only weeks before their wedding. Her life slowly tailspins as she seeks out close friends for solace and sexual mishaps as she faces turning 30 and being suddenly single. “Zoe [Lister Jones] and I were both single and interested in stories that were honest about break-ups and not just glorified versions of them,” Wein told ML at the Standard Tuesday night. He co-wrote the film along with Lister Jones who co-stars in the film with Gerwig. “Greta is great for the part because she is not an overly-polished lead. She’s vulnerable, likable but still at times unlikable,” he added. Wein said the idea for Lola Versus came to him and Lister-Jones though in the interim other films that deal with being single have cropped up. “There are stories with a feminist [bent] that have come up since then, and we’re all for it. We want more realistic depictions of break-ups and being single to be out there.” Not quite so single in real-life, Gerwig danced with her current beau Noah Baumbach at the party, which was co-hosted Brooks Brothers and Grey Goose along with Cinema Society and its founder Andrew Saffir. Of course there were signature vodka cocktails and the champagne and spectacular Manhattan views kept the soiree going well passed midnight. Fox Searchlight will open Lola Versus in limited release beginning this Friday. [ Photo Credit: Nick Hunt/Patrick McMullan Co. ]

‘Live Forever!’ Remembering Sci-Fi-/Fantasy Legend Ray Bradbury

Acclaimed, Pulitzer-honored science fiction/fantasy author Ray Bradbury has died at the age of 91 in Los Angeles, following one of the most fruitful creative writing careers of the 20th century. The man behind such genre classics as Fahrenheit 451 , The Martian Chronicles , Something Wicked This Way Comes leaves behind a stunning legacy spanning works adapted for television, film, and the stage. It’s difficult to quantify the impact that Bradbury had on the worlds of science fiction, literature, and the numerous film and television adaptations that sprang from his seven decades of writing, not to mention the generations of sci-fi and fantasy lovers weaned on his tales. The man had an asteroid and a moon crater named in his honor, for goodness sake, had dozens of his stories adapted for stage, film, and television, and never went to college. For a child growing up with Bradbury’s stories, the world was filled much more with wonder. For an adult, his tales prompted deeper introspection. It Came From Outer Space : Icarus Montgolfier Wright : Something Wicked This Way Comes : Bradbury on his Fahrenheit 451 : Folks will have their own cherished Bradbury moments, but I’ll leave you with one of my favorite of his real life stories. Writing in 2001, Bradbury shared the childhood incident that inspired him to become a writer in the first place: A chance meeting with a carnival magician named Mr. Electrico in 1932 following the death of Bradbury’s uncle. Mr. Electrico was a fantastic creator of marvels. He sat in his electric chair every night and was electrocuted in front of all the people, young and old, of Waukegan, Illinois. When the electricity surged through his body he raised a sword and knighted all the kids sitting in the front row below his platform. I had been to see Mr. Electrico the night before. When he reached me, he pointed his sword at my head and touched my brow. The electricity rushed down the sword, inside my skull, made my hair stand up and sparks fly out of my ears. He then shouted at me, “Live forever!” I thought that was a wonderful idea, but how did you do it? The next day, being driven home by my father, fresh from the funeral, I looked down at those carnival tents and thought to myself, “The answer is there. He said ‘Live forever,’ and I must go find out how to do that.” I told my father to stop the car. He didn’t want to, but I insisted. He stopped the car and let me out, furious with me for not returning home to partake in the wake being held for my uncle. With the car gone, and my father in a rage, I ran down the hill. What was I doing? I was running away from death, running toward life. When I reached the carnival grounds, by God, sitting there, almost as if he were waiting for me, was Mr. Electrico. I grew, suddenly, very shy. I couldn’t possibly ask, How do you live forever? But luckily I had a magic trick in my pocket. I pulled it out, held it toward Mr. Electrico and asked him if he’d show me how to do the trick. He showed me how and then looked into my face and said, “Would you like to see some of those peculiar people in that tent over there?” I said, “Yes.” He took me over to the sideshow tent and hit it with his cane and shouted, “Clean up your language!” at whoever was inside. Then, he pulled up the tent flap and took me in to meet the Illustrated Man, the Fat Lady, the Skeleton Man, the acrobats, and all the strange people in the sideshows. He then walked me down by the shore and we sat on a sand dune. He talked about his small philosophies and let me talk about my large ones. At a certain point he finally leaned forward and said, “You know, we’ve met before.” I replied, “No, sir, I’ve never met you before.” He said, “Yes, you were my best friend in the great war in France in 1918 and you were wounded and died in my arms at the battle of the Ardennes Forrest. But now, here today, I see his soul shining out of your eyes. Here you are, with a new face, a new name, but the soul shining from your face is the soul of my dear dead friend. Welcome back to the world.” Why did he say that? I don’t know. Was there something in my eagerness, my passion for life, my being ready for some sort of new activity? I don’t know the answer to that. All I know is that he said, “Live forever” and gave me a future and in doing so, gave me a past many years before, when his friend died in France. Leaving the carnival grounds that day I stood by the carousel and watched the horses go round and round to the music of “Beautiful Ohio.” Standing there, the tears poured down my face, for I felt that something strange and wonderful had happened to me because of my encounter with Mr. Electrico. I went home and the next day traveled to Arizona with my folks. When we arrived there a few days later I began to write, full-time. I have written every single day of my life since that day 69 years ago. I have long since lost track of Mr. Electrico, but I wish that he existed somewhere in the world so that I could run to him, embrace him, and thank him for changing my life and helping me become a writer. Live forever, indeed! Read the full entry here and leave your own Bradbury celebrations below.

Django Unchained Trailer Arrives: Get Ready For A Very Tarantino Spaghetti Western Christmas

At long last — since Quentin Tarantino fans have been dying for a glimpse since the first peek at that hand-scrawled script suggested that yes, this was really happening — comes the first trailer for Django Unchained , Tarantino’s December 2012 spaghetti western about a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) shooting his way across the South. Because nothing says Christmas like slavery and vengeance! UPDATE: Sorry folks, the trailer is set to officially debut on Fandango later today. Check back for updated video… Foxx plays Django, a slave taken under the wing of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz, looking delightful). Together they journey from plantation to plantation shooting bad guys on their way to rescuing Django’s wife (Kerry Washington) from the evil, oily Leonardo DiCaprio. Between the contained ferocity in Foxx’s eyes, the character actors that line the cast, Tarantino’s use of classic genre zooms and camera moves, that swaggering sense of humor, and the promise of seeing Django get the ultimate historical-revisionist retribution in his quest for “life, love, and the pursuit of vengeance,” the trailer packs quite a punch. And that’s even before Foxx’s Django sidles up to the OG Django , Franco Nero, and explains to him how his name is pronounced. Oh, references! Verdict: Might be a bit too genre for mainstream audiences, but my inner exploitation nerd can’t wait. Django Unchained hits theaters December 25.
