“Dude, Can I Let Me Get A Do-Over?: Minor League Ball Club Asks Aguilera To Sing Anthem For Redemption

Maybe this time she’ll do a little practice or research or something… Christina Aguilera has been invited to sing a do-over. The Brooklyn Cyclones are offering the Staten Island native a chance to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before one of the minor league baseball team’s home games this summer. Aguilera botched one of the lines of the national anthem before Sunday’s Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas. The New York Mets’ Class A farm team extended the invitation Tuesday. Cyclones general manager Steve Cohen said in a statement that “when a player makes a mistake, they usually don’t get a shot at redemption, but with a singer, that’s a different story.” Regardless of how well she sings it the 2nd time, there’s no living down screwing up the anthem on the nations biggest stage. But if she likes it, we love it… Source

SMH At Funkmaster Flex And His Wife

Turns out the random jawn Funkmaster Flex was accused of smacking up early Friday morning was none other than his wife. Yesterday though, after bringing the NYPD and the whole world into her marital drama, Monica Joseph-Taylor wants her privacy. “We’re doing okay,” Monica Joseph-Taylor said Saturday outside the couple’s upscale home in Westchester. Asked for details about the Friday-morning marital fracas, she grinned and teased a News reporter. “You’d have to buy me dinner,” said Joseph-Taylor, dressed in a black leather jacket, dark jeans, knee-high tan boots and a leather print scarf. Flex, whose real name is Aston Taylor, was arrested Friday after his wife told cops he pushed her down, smacked her phone out of her hand and then stomped on it. The fight erupted at about 5 a.m. inside the couple’s bedroom. It was sparked by threatening text messages Flex sent his wife Thursday night, Joseph-Taylor told cops. The 42-year-old deejay was arrested inside his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro near the couple’s Ardsley home. Flex was charged with three counts of criminal mischief and harassment, and released on $500 bail. He was ordered to keep away from Joseph-Taylor, an Emmy-nominated ex-producer of the “Live with Regis and Kathy Lee” show. Flex and Joseph-Taylor wed in 2000 and have a 9-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son. Saturday, Joseph-Taylor requested privacy before driving off in her silver BMW coupe. “I would love everyone to respect the privacy of my family – for me and my children,” said Joseph-Taylor. After she left, a bouquet of yellow roses and white lilies arrived at the couple’s home. Flex could not be reached for comment Saturday. At a gig in New Jersey Friday night, the New York native admitted getting into a tussle with his wife. “Yes, we had words,” Flex said. “Yes, there was an argument. Yes, there was a phone broken. Yes, there were police called. “I love my fans, and I encourage all of them to work things out in their own marriages.” Do you think there’s any going back once the police has been called and there’s a restraining order in the mix? Epitome Of A Bad Mother/Babysitter: Kristal Khan Falls Asleep While Baby Drowns In The Next Room

This is one of those stories that will piss you off as much as it will make you sad. A baby-sitter told a court how she awoke from a deep sleep to discover an 11-month-old boy she was supposed to be watching had fallen into a bucket of water and drowned. Little James Farrior died in just six inches of water after toppling head-first into the three-foot-tall blue plastic bucket. Kristal Khan, 29, admitted dropping off to sleep after chugging NyQuil because she had run out of non-drowsy DayQuil to help soothe her cold. But she was woken by her four-year-old son, who said: ‘Mommy, James is in the water.’ Khan ran into the kitchen of her Queens, New York, home that doubled as a daycare centre and found the baby upside down. ‘I saw James half in and half out of the bucket,’ she said in a videotaped statement given to investigators in the hours after the tragedy in June, 2009. ‘I picked him up and tried to rub his back,’ she added. In the same tape, the baby-sitter used a plastic doll to show how the child was bent at the waist leaning into the bucket. She said she had put water in it the night before to mop up food colouring her daughter had spilled onto the floor. The Trinidad-born baby-sitter faces four years in prison if she is convicted of a charge of reckless assault. The District Attorney, Leigh Bishop, is giving Khan the SUPER side-eye… …Bishop said the baby was left alone for one hour while Khan slept – and she showed little emotion when police officers arrived to find the child lying unresponsive by the bucket. ‘She was calmly and without emotion telling police what had happened,’ added Bishop. ‘She was very calm. She didn’t seem to be upset,’ said Detective Brian Simonsen, one of the officers who rushed to the scene. What the f*ck was on b*tch mind?!?!? Cold or no cold, you deal with that sh*t. What you DON’T do is chug NyQuil like Gatorade while you’re watching someone’s child! Best believe the judge is going to sit you down to think about how, in the words of the great Antoine Dodson,”you are SO dumb!” SMH….woo-sah… Source

Blind Side 2.0: White Family Takes In Troubled Black Teen Whose Mother Died Of AIDS

Just like a basketball player, life twists and turns. Melvin Jones is not only a basketball star, but also a top student at Portland State University — and all because his high school coach, Kasey Poirrier, thinks of him as a little brother. Kasey’s mom, Jennifer Annable, was five months pregnant when she moved to Seattle with 50 bucks in her pocket. She worked long hours, struggling to become a teacher. Eventually she became director of a school for children with special needs, but her marriage ended in divorce before she could give Kasey that little brother. One night Kasey asked his mom: “How would you feel about Melvin coming to stay with us?” Melvin Jones had just been shoved out of two other high schools and had entered Kasey’s with zero credits. At age 16, he was drifting on the streets of Seattle. “Every time I took him home, I was taking him somewhere else,” Kasey recalled. “We drove around to four or five different places and there were no adults.” Melvin’s mom was dying of AIDS. “He was loved, but not parented,” is how Jennifer put it. So she made up a room for him. Why would a single mom take on such a challenge? Jennifer’s father grew up in foster care; her mother in an orphanage. Jennifer had opened her home to kids before: Five, in fact, during Kasey’s childhood. “My dream was always to run an orphanage,” she explained. “When I was a little girl, I had a hundred dolls and I used to line them up on the back porch. Those were my kids.” Her mom was almost adopted three times, but each time, the couple sent her back. “To think that somebody would take in a child, then give them back,” Jennifer said. She simply wanted to help children like her mom. Still, she recalled: “Taking in Melvin was one of the hardest things I ever did in the beginning.” He did not trust her. He stashed the groceries she bought him under his bed, afraid some one would steal them. Melvin resisted Jennifer’s every attempt to become his new mother. “I did not like it at all,” Melvin said. “I fought it.” Jennifer told Melvin: “ ‘I’m not trying to take anyone’s place, but you need a mom!’ ” And she had love enough to help another child. Still, Melvin’s little sister, Marika, was not happy. “Why you wanna go move in with her? She’s not family.” “He was with me,” big sister Lasheka Bousley insisted. “I was trying to figure out why he’d want to go with someone else other than me.” Melvin simply wanted someone to show him how to study. “Jennifer was like a gnat, like you slappin’ at a gnat and it just won’t go away.”

For Discussion: Has The Economy Affected Your Child Support Payments?

Child support is, and probably always will be, a hot topic in the black community. In these times of economic hardship people are having a hard enough time supporting themselves much less a child or children, but is the economy an excuse for being light on the payments? Total funds collected for U.S. child-support programs failed to increase during fiscal year 2009 for the first time since Congress created an enforcement arm for such collections in 1975, according to a study released this week by the Government Accountability Office. Overall collections declined by 2.1 percent from the previous fiscal year, including the first-ever drop in collections automatically withheld from wages, long the primary source of child-support payments. The enforcement program, administered at the state level and overseen by the federal Department of Health and Human Services, collected about $26 billion in child support payments during fiscal 2009 on behalf of some 17 million children, almost one-quarter of the nation’s kids. The average amount of child support collected per case dropped 3 percent to $1,670, the first decline since 1994. The amount of child-support funding collected from unemployment checks, however, nearly tripled during fiscal 2009. It’s a measure of the depths of the recession, but also of how much deeper it could have been, analysts say, without government efforts to mitigate the economic crisis. “I think it’s clear that the decline in collections isn’t due to a failing on the part of child-support enforcement administrators, but due to the economy,” said Elizabeth Lower-Basch, a senior policy analyst at the Center for Law and Social Policy, an advocacy group for lower-income Americans. “It would have been a bigger drop without the extended unemployment insurance benefits, which helped many noncustodial parents meet their obligations.” Has the economy affected you or your child’s parents’ ability to make sufficient payments? Jesus Take The Wheel: American Airlines Flight Nearly Misses 2 Military Cargo Planes!

Near MISS, or near HIT?? We’re just sayin… An American Airlines jetliner barely missed two giant military cargo planes in a harrowing near-collision over the Atlantic two weeks ago, investigators said today. Authorities suspect errors by Long Island-based air controllers and the jetliner’s pilot in the incident, an air control source told The Post. American Flight 951 took off around 9:30 p.m. from Kennedy Airport on the night of Jan. 20. An hour later, about 80 miles southeast of New York, the American Boeing 777 came within 200 feet vertically and 2,000 feet horizontally of two military C17 cargo planes heading toward McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, the air controller source said. The planes were close enough to trigger a traffic collision avoidance system, or TCAS, alert on the American Airlines jet, the National Transportation Safety Board said. The incident also triggered automatic alerts to the FAA’s New York Center, which oversees that area of the Atlantic Ocean. With the TCAS alert and the controllers’ guidance, the planes avoided a collision, the NTSB said. Controllers in the New York Center, located in Ronkonkoma, were briefed on the incident Thursday. The NTSB says it has already interviewed the controllers involved, and is still gathering information from the Air Force and the airline. Regardless of the terminology used, we’re glad that the planes did NOT crash into each other. God is good, let the chuuch say ‘Amen’. Source

Stay With It: 10-Year-Old Is Too Caught Up In His Video Game And Falls Off The Train Platform

These kids and their damn video games…SMH A 10-year-old boy who was playing a video game on a Sony PlayStation Portable was so engrossed that he stepped off a subway platform and fell onto the tracks. The incident, which happened in Milan, Italy, was caught on video (shown here). An off-duty policeman jumped onto the tracks to rescue the boy. “I just reacted with instinct,” explained the rescuer, 23-year-old Alessandro Micalizzi, according to the Daily Mail UK. “I saw him go over and he was lying on the track so I just jumped down, grabbed him and carried him to the platform. He was crying and shocked but other than that he was OK.” Though there was no oncoming train, there was one due within a minute, so real peril was never too far off. “It was only afterwards when I heard the other passengers clapping and cheering that I stopped and thought about what I had done and my heart was in my throat,” said Micalizzi in the Daily Mail.
