Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Alec Baldwin Give Props To Obama On Same-Sex Marriage

‘Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting president to support marriage equality,’ Gaga tweets. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images While his likely opponent in the fall presidential contest, Mitt Romney, dug in his heels and doubled down on his opposition to same-sex marriage, President Obama continued to earn praise from the entertainment community for his historic support of gay marriage
. After hearing from stars including
Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres, “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kim Kardashian on Wednesday, the list of well-wishers grew to include everyone from Lady Gaga to hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons, Alec Baldwin and political blogger Meghan McCain. “Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting president to support marriage equality,” tweeted Gaga . “Feels like the future, and not the past. #NoFear.” Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons simply said “thank you,” and singer Michelle Branch gave it a rousing, “YAY Obama!! #EqualityForAll.” Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting President to support marriage equality. Feels like the future, and not the past. #NoFear — Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) May 10, 2012 Frequent “Chelsea Lately” panelist and out comedian Ross Matthews could hardly contain his excitement, writing, “OMG, it’s official! Obama becomes 1st president to support gay marriage!!! Historic day!” Meanwhile, another out TV personality, Bravo boss and talk show host Andy Cohen , shouted, “THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT.” Singer Ricky Martin offered his props as well, saying, “I applaud President @barackobama for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic!” CNN talker Piers Morgan called it, “One small step for him … one giant leap for mankind,” while comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard offered up the poetic bon mot, “Viva Obama who has just endorsed gay marriage. Right on time drop a dime blow your mind.” “It Gets Better” found and “Savage Love” columnist Dan Savage urged action on the back of Obama’s announcement, saying, “Gay people better get out there and support the president. If he loses in November, we’ll be blamed.” “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin kept is brief with, “Obama gets it right on gay marriage. Bravo,” out blogger Perez Hilton dubbed the announcement, “better late than never” and singer Josh Groban said it was just “historic.” Twitter master comedian Patton Oswalt took the opportunity to have fun with the Obama news in a series of tweets about his upcoming (fake) gay marriage. “Oh my God — Seal Team Six just broke down my front door and are forcing me to marry @stephenfry! DAMN YOU, OBAMA!!!!!!” That was followed by some more good news in the form of, “Well, I’m now married to @stephenfry. Ceremony was charming, but watching Seal Team Six fight over the bouquet was f—ing INTENSE.” Funnyman Michael Ian Black was in a joking mood as well, taunting, “Hey Obama, if you love gay marriage so much, why don’t you marry it?” And in keeping with her maverick streak (not to be confused with her dad’s), political blogger Meghan McCain opined, “Even though he did it a little late under political pressure — very happy to hear the President came out in support of gay marriage.” What do you think of President Obama’s support of gay marriage? ‘American Idol’ Report Card: Joshua Ledet ‘Man’s’ Up, Jessica Sanchez Stands Tall

Another night of standing O’s for Ledet, more catcalls for Hollie Cavanagh and high praise for Phillip Phillips. By Gil Kaufman Joshua Ledet performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Wednesday night’s episode of “American Idol”
offered definitive proof of what happens when you give the kids the keys to the Lambo: they crash and burn. On an evening when the themes were as vague as any we can recall (California Dreamin? Songs You Wish You’d Written?), the top four
either went obscure or doubled-down on the most obvious choices possible, which made for an uneven night. A few things became crystal clear, though: based on the girl squeals, Phillip Phillips could win this thing in a walk-off without singing another note as long as he loses his razor, smiles and keeps clothes shopping at J.C. Penny. Similarly, Joshua Ledet pretty much has it in the bag, while Hollie Cavanagh has run out of luck and Jessica Sanchez should perfect her third-place finisher pageant smile and wave. It’s also pretty clear at this point that the dream is over for some and just about to come true for others. But who will be packing up their clear heels and headed home and who should prep their awkward bro hug posture? Read on to find out! Joshua Ledet : Of the thousands, maybe tens of thousands of “California Dreamin'” songs Josh could have picked, he picked a song that is the musical equivalent of a cardboard and mayonnaise sandwich: Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up.” It felt overwrought, over serious, overcooked and just no fun. The kid can sing, but by the end I was just over it. He more than made up for it with James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” Yeah, it’s another dusty, nearly 50-year-old oldie, but it’s dead-center in his lane and his voice was made for this kind of gritty, throwback soul. We asked last week if that’s what people really want to hear in 2012 , but at the very least Ledet put on a showcase for his powerhouse soul simmer and shout. He sang it and he sold it. Sorry girls, it’s gonna be Josh and Phil facing off in two weeks. A- Phillip Phillips : It’s always dicey when Phil puts down the guitar. Just like he doesn’t know how to dress like anything other than the guy fixing your HVAC system, the pawn shop kid can’t figure out what to do with his hands. His surf bum take on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” was … fine. It felt kind of like something you’d see in a San Diego beach bar on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The judges, as usual, were charmed, which makes me think he has incriminating photos or something. Hey, Randy, smiling isn’t singing. I’ve been writing about music longer than Jessica Sanchez has been alive and I can honestly say I’ve never heard of “Volcano” by Damien Rice. That’s the song you wish you’d written, Phil? Frankly, it sounded like everything Phillips sings to me, which is to say that it came off like a pretty decent Dave Matthews cover. The grit and passion were there, but the song never achieved lift-off. Can you really imagine being mesmerized by scruff and a smile for 90 minutes? B- Jessica Sanchez : Talk about overcorrecting. Sanchez was like a long-haul trucker snapping up out of deep sleep after hitting a guardrail and almost jackknifing the rig. She went from too sexy and grown up last week to just … too old. Her cover of Etta James’ “Steal Away” was, as the late, lamented Simon Cowell would say, “cabaret.” The Cirque du Soleil-worthy two-tone pants suit was weird and the song just made her seem like she was singing to her extended family in the living room while trying to make granny proud. The old soul and bluesy heart were there, but it felt more like an off-Broadway musical revue than a concert. And, c’mon, Jessica. The “‘Idol’ slayer?” We should have added Jennifer Holliday’s “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” to our list of songs that must be retired from the “Idol” repertoire. Jennifer Hudson crushed it in “Dreamgirls,” Tamyra Gray and LaKisha Jones also made it their you-know what on the show. Despite all that, BeBe Chez gave it her all and did a good, but not great, job of it. She hit the notes, served up the emotion and got all angry with it, but it just felt a bit, well, obvious. B- Hollie Cavanagh : The kid knows how to suck up to the judges, that’s for sure. Picking Journey’s “Faithfully” was a guarantee that Randy would be on board. Too bad HCav face-planted on the melody, losing the spark she showed last week and looking as bored and lost as we felt. The big notes at the end almost saved her. Almost. Jennifer called the performance “laid back,” but to me it just felt like she was laid out. The bottom line is you can make someone look like a star, but you can’t make them act like one. You know what can make Hollie seem like a cool, contemporary star? A 22-year-old song by Bonnie Raitt! Between the baggy black Chicos pantsuit and the violins, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” was another off-the-Vegas-Strip snoozer that most surely punched her ticket home. And the crocodile tears near the end were whatever the opposite of a nice touch is. Pip pip, little one! ChitChatter: Jackie Christie Speaks On Cheating In Her Marriage, Basketball Wives Boycott, And Bringing Reality TV To The Silver Screen

Crazy a$$ Jackie is back y’all! Jackie Christie Talks Basketball Wives L.A. And Cheating In Her Marriage According to BossChicks Watching Basketball Wives it would lead you to the theory that all NBA players cheat. But you and your husband have made it work. How does that make you feel? It makes me feel extremely blessed. I’m not saying our relationship is perfect. Of course we’ve had our ups and downs, but those hard times have only made us stronger. I’m thankful I have a husband that respects me, not only me but women in general. Of course, he’s had women approach him but he respected me enough to say to them “hey you don’t want to do this. I have too much respect for you, and my wife to ever cross that line.” I’m married to my best friend, we’ve been married for 16 years and we get re-married every year to celebrate our marriage. So you know I have to ask. How do you feel about the petition against Basketball Wives Miami? Honestly I’ve been too wrapped up in my own projects to watch this season of Miami. But I will say I think VH1 is doing a good job of portraying the wives. Of course, they cut and edit things but they are only editing things that we do. I can say I’m very pleased with how I was portrayed on the show. What are you feelings on Basketball Wives LA Season 2? I’m actually excited! I’m a little apprehensive but excited. I know that some of the girls might come back and have a few bones to pick and that’s fine. I believe that we are all grown women and should be able to admit to things that we have said. The he say, she say I don’t deal with it. If you’re grown say I said it, because I’m going to put it all on the table. I read recently that they’re turning BBW’s into a movie. What do you think about that? I’m excited about that. Shaunie and Traci are both friends of mine and I look forward to the movie. Hopefully, they’ll use some of the cast members from both shows in the movie. I’m unsure how it’s going to play out but I wish them the best of luck. Will you be watching Basketball Wives L.A.’s new season? They seemed to be a LITTLE less ratchet than the Miami crew… Image via WENN

What The Hell? Swirl Couple Shaves 12-Year-Old Daughter’s Head And Forces Her To Wear Diapers Due To Bad Grades At School

Couple Arrested For Shaving Daughter’s Head, Putting On Diaper Duty For Bad Grades SMH: A mother and her live-in boyfriend are in jail after police say they shaved the woman’s 12-year-old daughter’s head and forced her to run up and down a city street in a diaper. Police arrived on the 1600 block of 68th Avenue about 7:20 p.m. Monday, May 7, to find a crowd of more than 50 people watching the girl as she moved up and down the block in nothing but a diaper and a tank top, said Police Lt. Mike Monsrud. Her hair had also been completely shaved off, Monsrud added, saying officers believe she had been outside for about half an hour before a neighbor alerted police. “When the officer found her, she was crying and hysterical,” Monsrud said. Police arrested 38-year-old Stephanie Ann Broten and 34-year-old Darnell Alan Landrum on suspicion of gross-misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child. The two reportedly told police they were punishing the girl for not bringing home good grades from school and for failing to do her homework. “They told her if she didn’t, they would shave her head and put her on ‘diaper duty,’ which I guess meant running up and down the street and cleaning up trash as a form of public humiliation,” Monsrud said. He added that Broten and Landrum questioned the police’s decision to intervene. “Through the whole contact, and even on the way to jail, both were laughing and thinking it was ridiculous police would get involved in what they said was their parental decision,” he said. being held at the Anoka County Jail. Neither had been formally charged as of Tuesday afternoon. Family members could not be reached for comment Tuesday, May 8. The 12-year-old girl and three younger children found at the woman’s apartment were placed in foster care, Mons-rud said. He added that police have referred other reports of “physical abuse” from the residence to child protective services in the past. Landrum was convicted of disorderly conduct in 1999. Darnell Alan Landrum. Landrum, 34, of Fridley, was arrested Monday, May 7 on suspicion of malicious punishment of a child. (Courtesy of Anoka County Sheriff’s office) Broten does not appear to have a criminal record in Minnesota. Source

Kristen Stewart, On the Road Coming to America Via IFC Films/Sundance Selects

The 2012 Cannes Film Festival remains a week away, but the wheeling and dealing is already underway — and probably not coincidentally, for competition films starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Last week it was Pattinson’s edgy David Cronenberg collaboration Cosmopolis going to E One , and tonight it’s Stewart’s long-awaited Jack Kerouac adaptation On the Road — just announced as the proud acquisition of IFC Films and Sundance Selects. Read on for the full details, and stay tuned to Movieline for more fest news as Cannes 2012 approaches. =========== New York, NY (May 8, 2012) – AMC Networks announced today the acquisition of all US rights to acclaimed filmmaker Walter Salles’ ON THE ROAD to be released jointly by the company’s film distribution labels IFC Films and Sundance Selects. Based on the iconic novel by Jack Kerouac, the film stars Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst and features performances by Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Danny Morgan, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss and Viggo Mortensen. The screenplay is by Jose Rivera (Academy Award® nominee for THE MOTORCYLE DIARIES). The MK2 Production was produced by Nathanael Karmitz, Charles Gillibert, Rebecca Yeldham and Roman Coppola for American Zoetrope. Executive producer Francis Ford Coppola has been developing the project since 1978. The World Premiere for ON THE ROAD is set for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in the Competition Section. A major theatrical release is planned for late Fall. Josh Sapan, CEO and President of AMC Networks said of the film, “Walter Salles has made an ambitious and accomplished film out of Jack Kerouac’s iconic novel. It’s a classic road movie with career-making performances from Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley, and a terrific showcase for Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst. This exceptional piece of filmmaking is the cinematic equivalent to the ground-breaking original content that our company produces for its networks.” Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films said: “This is a major step forward for us, and we plan to work across AMC Networks in putting all our resources together to make this theatrical release into a significant cultural event. We will show the same passion in releasing this film as the team took behind producing it. We’re honored to be working with our friends Nathanael Karmitz and Charles Gillibert at MK2, Walter Salles, Rebecca Yeldham, Roman Coppola and Francis Ford Coppola.” Nathanael Karmitz (President-MK2) and Charles Gillibert (Producer-MK2) said: “ON THE ROAD changed the lives of many people, it changed the life of MK2 and it will also have that effect on AMC Networks and its labels’ IFC Films and Sundance Selects. We had a lot of interest from US distributors but thecombination of AMC Networks great promotional appeal with IFC Films and Sundance Selects’ experience in distribution is an innovative and ambitious way to bring ON THE ROAD great success in the US. We were also very touched by the passionate approach of Josh Sapan and Jonathan Sehring and by the enthusiasm of their team.” This marks the fourth time that the two companies have collaborated following Olivier Assayas’ SUMMER HOURS, Abbas Kiarostami’s CERTIFIED COPY, Gus Van Sant’s PARANOID PARK and Assayas’ upcoming SOMETHING IN THE AIR. ON THE ROAD tells the provocative story of Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a young writer whose life is shaken and ultimately redefined by the arrival of Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund), a free-spirited, fearless, fast talking Westerner, and his girl, Marylou (Kristen Stewart). Together, Sal and Dean travel cross-country in a quest for freedom from the conformity and conservatism engulfing them, in search of the unknown, themselves, and the pursuit of “it” — the pure essence of experience. Seeking unchartered terrain and the last American frontier, the duo encounter an eclectic mix of men and women — Bull (Viggo Mortensen), Camille (Kirsten Dunst), Carlo (Tom Sturridge), Jane (Amy Adams), Terry (Alice Braga), and Galatéa (Elisabeth Moss) – each adding meaning to their desire for a new way of life. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Walter Salles is credited with helping Brazilian cinema return to international prominence in the late 1990s. His credits include THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES about the life of young Enresto Guevara who later became known as Che. The acclaimed film was a success at the box office and received Academy Award® nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jose Rivera and Best Song. Most recently he directed with Daniela Thomas the film LINHA DE PASSE, which won Sandra Corveloni the Best Actress at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. ###

Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ Video: Frame By Frame

Director X sits down with MTV News and breaks down the sexy new clip, including the deets on ‘Chunky Bieber.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Justin Bieber in his “Boyfriend” music video Photo: Island/Def Jam Justin Bieber drives fast cars, nuzzles with one very lovely young woman and gets his dance on in his record-setting “Boyfriend” video . Fairly simple in its concept, the video is a snapshot of what it would be like to party with the teen star and his hip friends on a rooftop in Los Angeles. MTV News recently sat down with Director X , and he broke down what it was like to hit the set with the 18-year-old as he readies the next phase of his career, the more mature Believe era . The video is the lead visual off Bieber’s June 19 album, and X took us through the clip, frame by frame. “We start this off with the car stunts,” he said of the opening shot. “We wrecked that car by the way; both of those Mustangs were pretty shot after this video, completely shot after this video.” From there, fans are invited to Bieber’s car-themed rooftop bash, one that recalls the type of shindig another teen idol from back in the day may have thrown. “So we got this rooftop here in L.A., starting our day with Justin and he’s pulling up. We got all the cool kids hanging out,” X said. “Justin’s new look, he’s kind of got a James Dean thing going on here. That’s really Justin driving that Mustang … and he did all the stunts by himself, completely. That’s all him,” X joked. “Actually, that’s us holding the car. We put the car on these wheels and we pushed it around in circles while Justin pretended to drive.” Justin’s “smooth” driving moves are matched only by the real ones he uses on his female co-star, Rachel Barnes. “We got Justin with the girl, pulling [her] around [with the] kids dancing, ’cause you know how kids do. That’s what goes on [at these get-togethers]: Someone brings out their guitar and the party happens,” he explained. “The idea really was to show a lifestyle piece — Justin hanging out — to show that he’s older … just to see this new vibe,” the director added. “We get to see that he’s growing into his manhood. [We] just [wanted] to get in an environment where we can show that naturally, just have fun and get the vibe of who he is.” While Bieber and his lady love in the video captured fans’ attention, a co-star who was dubbed “Chunky Bieber” on-set has also gotten some buzz. X explained, “[Chunky Bieber] came with one of the cars and somehow [Bieber’s manager], Scooter [Braun], I don’t know how in the world they got into conversation where Chunky Bieber started dancing somehow.” Apparently it all went down when the director wasn’t looking. “They taped ‘Chunky Bieber’ to his shirt and Chunky Bieber got in the video.” As the video closes out, Justin’s dancing skills are on full display. “Got some footage of Justin dancing, [and] those are really his feet,” Director X said. “He can do that, and that’s it: Justin Bieber, bad boy.” What do you think of Justin’s “Boyfriend” video? The Real Housewives of New Jersey Recap: Third Eye Blind

The Real Housewives of New Jersey celebrated the Summer Solstice by trying to open up their third eye chakra on last night’s episode. Yeah, we don’t know what that means either but we break it all down here in THG’s +/- recap! Teresa is excellent … at placing blame. On taking responsibility, not so much. First off she’s still upset about her husband’s black eye which of course is all Richie’s fault. Minus 12 . I’m sure poor Joe was just an innocent bystander in that scuffle. Who is she kidding? But in usual Teresa fashion she can’t let it go. She even tells Rich he could have poked his eye out.

March 26th, is a day I will NEVER forget. It started off on…

March 26th, is a day I will NEVER forget. It started off on Friday March 23rd. I woke up at 6am, getting ready for school. My mom was late to work, and at 6:30 the radio automatically turns on, so my mom heard on the radio on kiis fm, “Do you wanna have breakfast with Justin Bieber? Submit me an email saying why you should meet Justin Bieber! I’ll pick out some of the biggest beliebers out there! Only a few will win!” My mom was like, “Nia you better email Ryan Seacrest if you wanna win breakfast with Bieber!” I was like OMFG. Imagine, having breakfast with him. I couldn’t, it seemed unreal. I told my mom that I didn’t have time to email him, so my mom volunteered to email it for me at work, so she did. I went to school, forgetting about the breakfast with Bieber thing because really I knew that I could never have breakfast with him, and whoever won breakfast with him would be SUPER lucky. I was in my science class, and I was listening to my ipod while working when my mom texted me saying, “OMG NIA YOU WON!!” I was like what, she’s joking right? Then she sent me a picture of Ryan Seacrest email saying “Congrats you’ve won the chance of a lifetime! etc.” I was freaking out so much in class, I wanted to scream. My mom even called my teacher! I wanted to cry so badly but, it still felt unreal, you know? I skipped school March 26th , I woke up at 4am and we got there around 6am. Me and my mom were the first people there. Justin was on the radio that day so first he went to the interview, then came to meet us. We didn’t get to actually have breakfast with him, they provided us with breakfast, then he would show up and then we would have a private meet and greet . There were 5 winners, and they got to bring 2 people, so total there were only 10 of us, which is really small considering that there are like MILLIONS of beliebers out there. When I saw Justin come out of his car, I seriously still didn’t believe it, it was all happening to fast. First was Kenny, then Alfredo, then Justin’s crew, then Scooter, then him. I freaked out like crazy. Justin went to his interview and stuff, and we got to go see him do his interview. He waved hi to me and I fangirled like no tomorrow. After that we went into a private room to meet Justin. Justin came in the room saying, “Heeeeeeeyyyyyy wassssuppp!!” I was like omg, he is the most adorable thing on earth. We got our pictures and stuff, and Justin looked right into my eyes and said, “It was really nice to meet you” I almost died. When he kissed my cheek, he let go slowly, so when he let go it made that kissing noise, I will never forget that noise.  I asked Kenny and Alfredo for a picture too, they really are really funny and nice. Scooter even let this girl’s mom in because she was waiting outside. Scooter said that if he ever saw us again, he’ll get us close up seats for the Believe tour. I even took a video so that if I ever see him again I’ll show him.  When he left, he gave us all high fives. There were like 2 little girls, 2 moms, me and my mom, this girl about like 14 or 15, her uncle, and these other 2 girls who were like 18 or something. It really was an amazing day. It still feels unreal. I never thought that I would be able to meet him. Every belieber WILL meet him,  just wait for the right moment. Never say never. -@ TheNiaBieber More here: March 26th, is a day I will NEVER forget. It started off on…
