Last month we had the opportunity to see an exclusive early screening of the new independent film “Life, Love, Soul” and interview “The Wire” actors Chad Coleman and Jamie Hector who star in the project. Also featuring Tami Roman, Egypt Sherrod and Terri Vaughn “Life, Love, Soul” follows the story of young Roosevelt — forced to live with his estranged father after the tragic death of his mother and little brother. He and his father bump heads at first, but just as they begin to make a breakthrough, Roosevelt is faced with a huge decision of his own. The film hits theaters today but if you need a little more info before copping your tix, check out this interview Bossip did with Coleman and Hector below: Bossip: We’re big fans of “The Wire” so we loved watching you guys in this film. We noticed a lot of themes around African American males role models and providing examples and wanted to see what has inspired you. Chad Coleman: The film is about an African American man, who is estranged from his son. I think the film was able to demonstrate how even though he may have had a broken relationship you can reach out and rebuild bridges where they once were walls, despite the relationship between him and his ex, who unfortunately passed away. I thought it was a great opportunity to show the growth between and father and a son and it’s never too late to for an individual to change, an African American male to change, and accept his responsibility, and demonstrate that this is something he can do, we have so many negative images this is an opportunity to show that we can have those types of relationships. Jamie Hector: Also one of my favorite things in the film is when my character goes to visit Robby’s father, because that shows the audience as well as myself that it takes a community to raise a kid. Chad and I both have organizations, nonprofit organizations… What you see the character doing in the film is very close to what I am doing. We don’t charge people to come, we focus on developing a character while helping them, We support each other in order to serve the community. Bossip: In the film, how did you bridge the gap, what did you see in the script as being able to overcome these situations, the things that you baby mother might have said, that made Roosevelt act the way he was acting? Chad: That was very challenging –the circumstances, the way the things were set up. It breaks down communications in the earlier years with the exes. It’s fundamental, you have to be able to communicate with each other and share the vision where you are going together, if you don’t have that type of communication going on you will have separations. The personal baggage creates a huge difference. I was inspired by the fact I was given a second chance with my son. We couldn’t work it out, but she was still participating which was great. Relationships are very difficult to negotiate, but these things do occur, so what are you going to do? I hope we inspire a lot of people to feel there should be a second chance. If we can inspire a change of heart, to try to come back at it, to come to some kind of common ground, where there is humanity for the child, regardless how much you may have to work. Even if it doesn’t work between me and her, as men we have to do the best we can, have to be willing to take risks. I had to put myself out there, I never gave up on it. Bossip: Would you say your character is abusive? Do you think there was an issue with alcohol for your character? Chad: I don’t think it went to that degree; there was a level of self medication. I thought the film showed an honest way of this man having to come to terms, not through continued alcohol use, but confronting internal pain, finding a place in his loved ones life, that he will be a blessing to his son, through that incredible inner pain, I think its very courageous. Bossip: Do you think enough attention is given to teenage pregnancy and kids staying in school despite these obstacles? As a community what should we do to address this issue? Jamie: One thing that we know is that young folks are going to have sex. We have to educate them and be their support system. For me personally, finishing school is mandatory. I love the way the story expressed that. When you have a child, it’s not just about one person, its about both. They both need to take care of that child. That’s one thing I like about the film — even though the parents got pissed off, Moms she was heated — which I truly understand — afterward you see the support. You know they could have gone to school, gone to work and having to make these decisions, there was no way this could have happened without the support of the father, teacher, the community. When the girl gets pregnant you have to make sure she doesn’t do anything drastic or become depressed. We are human, we have to develop. The film exposes life after a child, you don’t have to put yourself in your own section just because you had a child — you have to educate yourself and those around you. You’re still a kid even though you had a kid. Chad: I would agree, he put everything on the table; there wasn’t a perspective that was not represented, which says within the community there are very distinct voices. Where these kids landed, through all those varying perspectives, there was hope for those children. The key is to not give up, to continue to work on yourself. It’s never over. In reality, there are challenges. Bossip: If you had a daughter and she came to you in that same scenario hw would you react? Jamie: I would do my best as a father. It’s always my job. Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who was collaborating with Mel Gibson on his ill-fated film The Maccabees before claiming in a letter Mel Gibson hates Jews , says he’s got proof that he witnessed the latest rage-filled rants from the troubled star. His teenage son secretly recorded much of it, Eszterhas says. “A lot of the stuff is on tape,” he tells TMZ. What stuff? He says the recordings were made in Costa Rica by his son Nick, though he would not say if the following alleged comments by Mel were captured: “I want to f**k her in the ass and stab her while I’m doing it.” – on his ex-girlfriend and former hate-filled rant target Oksana Grigorieva “He’s a c**t Jewboy.” – on William Morris/Endeavor Chairman Ari Emanuel “I’m glad he’s dead. George Zimmerman made his first court appearance since being officially charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman wore a gray prison jumpsuit and spoke only to answer “Yes, sir,” after being asked questions about the charge against him and his lawyer. His hair was shaved down to stubble and he sported a thin goatee, which appeared consistent with his booking photo from the day before (below). He resurfaced Wednesday to turn himself in after weeks in hiding. Meanwhile, a new document provided additional details on the prosecution’s case. Judge Mark E. Herr said he found probable cause to move forward with the case and an arraignment would be held on May 29 before another judge. The affidavit of probable cause prepared by prosecutors shed some light on why they chose to charge Zimmerman in the February 26 shooting. The Orlando Sentinel says that on that night, Trayvon Martin’s mother identified screams heard in the background of a 911 call as her son’s. There were doubts as to whether Martin or Zimmerman called for help. Prosecutors interviewed a friend of Martin’s who was talking to him just before the shooting. Martin told the witness he was being followed and was scared. Martin tried to run home, the affidavit says, but was followed by Zimmerman. The affidavit says, “Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and followed Martin.” The affidavit says that “Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher” during his initial 911 call , who told him to stop, and “continued to follow Martin.” The 17-year-old “was trying to return to his home.” George Zimmerman: First Court Appearance At a press conference following the court appearance, Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said he will seek a bond hearing “in the next few weeks.” Zimmerman is widely expected to enter a not guilty plea. O’Mara said he is working on finding a place he could safely stay if he is released before trial. Speaking to reporters after the hearing, O’Mara said he was concerned that the case up until now has been handled largely in the public eye. “It’s really supposed to happen in the courtroom,” O’Mara said, deflecting questions about evidence in the case and his client’s mental state. “He’s tired,” O’Mara said when asked about Zimmerman, who has said he acted in self-defense and that Martin was the aggressor that night. “He’s gone through some tribulations of his own, being the focus of the intensity of this event. He’s facing second degree murder charges now.” “He’s frightened. That would frighten any one of us.”
Kate Major has called the police on her former lover Michael Lohan, claiming he violated his restraining order, which he claims is totally untrue … again. This is the April 12, 2012 edition of this oft-repeated story. Law enforcement sources say crazy Kate called the Delray Beach, Fla., police, claiming Lohan had shown up to a salon she was at ( a violation of the current protective order against him) and started furiously banging on the glass windows. Police arrived, but by that point, MiLo had already split … apparently he did not get stuck in a tree trying to flee the cops this time. We think. Michael’s side of the story is that Kate actually invited him to the salon in the first place, so that she could borrow money for him … allegedly. Mike says Kate has been seriously involved with him recently and that the two have been secretly living together in spite of the restraining order. Law enforcement sources say police took Kate Major’s statement when they showed up to the salon and have also spoke to MiLo as well. The Florida State Attorney’s Office will decide if charges will be filed and ML makes yet another contribution to our celebrity mug shots album.

But the remaining finalists were forced to look ahead on this evening’s results show, as America voted and revealed an inevitable, but sad result for one aspirant: He or she is going home. This is disturbing: Kaduna metropolis was again thrown into panic and confusion on Sunday when a car suspected to be carrying explosives exploded along the busy Junction road/Sarduana Crescent close to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium killing not less than 40 people Most of the victims were Okada riders as Christians in the state were attending church services in commemoration of the Easter Sunday. The explosion left glass windows of houses within the vicinity shattered while bodies of victims blown into pieces littered the streets around the scene of the explosion. The Nation gathered the suicide bomber in the car had attempted going to an area with about three or more churches located side by side, but was turned back by the church security who had mounted a road block at the junction. The blast also destroyed property worth millions naira with majority of those affected being commercial motor cycle operators and black marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise referred to as petrol. The Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Abubakar Zakari Adamu, told newsmen that about 36 people died in the explosion while 13 others are seriously injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals within the metropolis. Adamu said “we took seven persons at Rakiya Memorial Hospital, out of which five have died while the remaining two have been transferred to 44 Army Reference Hospital where about 20 others have been taken. At the St Gerald Hospital, out of the 10 people taken there, five died while the remaining five are receiving treatment. “At Barau Dikko Hospital, we have six dead bodies with six others injured; while about 20 people died on the spot. In all, we have about 36 dead bodies while 13 others are seriously injured.” However, a Red Cross official who would not want his name in print said the agency collected five dead bodies from the scene and are treating about 15 others for serious injuries, adding that there was the possibility of more casualty since the security agents and other emergency workers also evacuated dead bodies from the scene. Investigation revealed that about 60 buildings, including Fina White House Hotel and Marhaba Hotel, residential houses as well as the All Nations Christian Assembly located along Gwari Road behind Marhaba hotel were badly affected by the blast, while not less than six vehicles including a Honda CRV car were damaged. The explosion, according to an eye witness account occurred at about 9.45 am when the lone suspected suicide bomber attempted to enter Gwari road where the All Nations Christian Assembly and the ECWA Good News Church are located but was refused entering. The eye witness said that the suspected bomber was dressed in a T-shirt and short with a set of military uniform at the back seat of the car, adding that part of the problem was that some people were hawking fuel around the area, while the okada riders always park on the major road. One of the survivors who claimed to have witnessed the explosion said “we were three inside the car when suddenly I heard a loud explosion in front of me and suddenly, I saw a billow of smoke and fire under my vehicles. I quickly opened my door and when I look I didn’t see my mechanic again. I am still shocked how I survived.” Another survivor, Augustine Vincent and his cousin, Aaron Idiawaje who are currently receiving treatment at the St Gerard Catholic Hospital claimed they were on the motorcycle directly behind the bomber when the explosion occurred and attributed their miraculous escape to “the blood of Jesus”. He noted that truly Jesus Christ resurrected and that was why they were saved. “We were on our way to Church-Christ Embassy by Station on Kachia road and God saw our heart and saved us.” One of the guests of one of the hotel affected by the explosion told The Nation that when the blast occurred, the window of the hotel fell on his head, but said that no guest inside the hotel was affected, adding that the bomb explosion destroyed windows and doors of the hotel. Another survivor who gave his name as Tunde said, “I was driving pass the scene of the incident along with two other occupants when suddenly I heard a loud sound that almost blocked my ear. When I looked in front of my car, I saw smoke all over the place while fire was coming out from under my car. “The man at the back seat of my car who is my mechanic was nowhere to be found, even when I called his mobile phone, it was switched off, and so my fear is that he might have died as a result of the explosion.
