Taylor Swift Marie Claire cover 2010

“I have been singing randomly, obsessively, obnoxiously for as long as I can remember,” Taylor Swift, 20, tells Marie Claire in its July issue. “My parents have videos of me on the beach at, like, 3, going up to people and singing Lion King songs for them. I was literally going from towel to towel, saying, #39;Hi, I#39;m Taylor. I#39;m going to sing “I Just Can#39;t Wait to Be King” for you now.#39; ” She might seem like the girl next door. But beneath Taylor Swift#39;s sweet, unassuming veneer

Gabe Saporta Recalls Patriotic Make-Out Session On ‘When I Was 17’

Cobra Starship frontman recounts a fateful class trip to Washington, D.C., on the latest episode. By James Montgomery Gabe Saporta Photo: MTV News This might not exactly come as a surprise, but when he was 17, Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta was a bit of a hell-raiser. Seems that the manic mastermind behind hits like “Good Girls Gone Bad” was never far away from trouble as a teen, much to the chagrin of pretty much every authority figure around him. “When I was 17, I was pretty much just as obnoxious as I am now, but louder,” Saporta laughed. “I went against the grain a little bit, and you always get in trouble when you do that. … Teachers hated me.” As a straight-edge kid at a Hebrew school (“We had, like, 11 periods a day,” he sighed), Saporta didn’t have to work very hard to stand out from the pack. It just seemed to come naturally to him, particularly on one fateful class trip to Washington, D.C., which he recounted on the latest episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” also featuring Evan Lysacek and Kimberly Caldwell. “We went on a class trip to Washington, D.C., to learn about the history of our government … and everyone had a hotel room, two people per room, two boys, two girls in each room,” Saporta smiled. “But really, class trips are just make-out sessions, so I went and snuck into one of these girls’ rooms … only this girl that I was making out with, her roommate who she was paired up with came back and freaked out and, like, had a panic attack.” The spooked roommate grabbed a chaperone, and before he knew it, Saporta was busted. He got sent home from the trip, and even though he felt the wrath of his folks when he arrived home, he still thinks the stunt was worth it — after all, it only added to his legend. “I got in trouble the next day, and I got sent home from the Washington trip,” he said. “I got kicked off the trip, I got to make out with a girl, and everyone’s like, ‘Wow, you were making out with a girl and you got kicked off the trip! That rules!’ ” The latest episode of “When I Was 17” — featuring Saporta, Evan Lysacek and Kimberly Caldwell — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Crystal Bowersox ‘Predicted’ Lee DeWyze Would Win ‘American Idol’

‘It was just a feeling I had, and, uh, I was right,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Crystal Bowersox Photo: MTV News There was a rather common misconception that, during her time on “American Idol,” dreadlocked dynamo Crystal Bowersox didn’t actually care about winning the show at all. So it seemed oddly fitting to many that she ended up finishing second, behind champ Lee DeWyze . But while Bowersox is fine with her runner-up status, she wants to make one thing abundantly clear: She always wanted to come out on top. “I wouldn’t have tried out if I didn’t think I had a shot at winning,” she told MTV News on Tuesday (June 1). “But it’s a weird confliction, because, to me, music shouldn’t be about competition; it’s about expression, it’s emotive, it’s all those things. But at the same time, the industry is a big competition and who can sell the most records. So it was a little strange for me, but I really tried to give it my best and sing songs I could relate to and that I thought other people could relate to. … I had a strategy.” And thanks to that strategy — and, you know, her prodigious voice — she kept advancing in the competition. But on the morning of the “Idol” finale, she had an epiphany: No matter how hard she had worked, DeWyze was going to win. “I tried not to think about it too much, but Wednesday morning, I woke up, and I had a strange, calm feeling. In my mind, I predicted Lee to win. … And whatever reason that’s based on, it was just a feeling I had, and, uh, I was right,” she smiled. “And I was prepared for that. I was OK with whatever happened, and I gave the whole thing my best shot, and I’m cool with number two, you know? We’re both going to be really successful, and I’m really proud of Lee.” One week later, Bowersox is still happy DeWyze won — “he’s worked really hard … I think he’s great and he deserved it,” she said — and she wouldn’t have traded one second of her time on “Idol” for anything in the world, no matter what you may have read about her during her time on the show. It was, she said, one of the most fateful decisions of her life, and she’s incredibly grateful for the opportunities it’s already provided for her — especially since there was a time, not too long ago, when she never would’ve auditioned. “I mean, I’m surprised I even got in! I figured that when they saw me at the stadium auditions, they’d be like, ‘Who’s this girl? She looks like she came off the street!’ ” she said. “I’m blessed that I’ve made it as far as I have. … Before the show, a lot of people had been like, ‘Oh, try out for “Idol”!’ and I said, ‘No, it’s not my thing.’ But since the show allowed instruments — thank goodness they did that, or else I wouldn’t be here — I decided to give it a shot. And, yeah, I’m grateful I did.” Were you surprised Crystal didn’t come out on top? Let us know in the comments! Travie McCoy, Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Allen Come Clean On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Can’t have this ball and chain on me,’ Kris Allen recalls thinking when he dumped his now-wife. By MTV News staff Kourtney Kardashian Photo: MTV News On the episode of “When I Was 17” airing this week, Kourtney Kardashian admits things got hairy when she was behind the wheel, heartthrob Travie McCoy confesses he wasn’t sexy at all and Kris Allen apologizes for breaking up with the girl who would become his wife. Whether it was dating or cars — few things are more important in high school — these three were still figuring things out. “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kourtney recalled one particular accident, in the episode that aired Saturday. “I remember I was driving down the street, and the car in front of me stopped short, and I stopped really fast and I hit the car,” she said. “I thought it was their fault, like, I didn’t know accident rules. So I was like, ‘How dare you stop short, even though I was driving like an inch behind you!’ ” While Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy was tall and tattooed as a teen, his look, it turns out, was anything but sexy. “Trav kinda was big, tall, was a little pudgier than most kids. He was a pretty gnarly-looking kid at 17,” explained Matt McGinley, his Gym Class drummer and former classmate. “Travie McCoy at 17 [was] crafty, artistic, but not sexy at all,” McCoy revealed with a laugh. “But in my brain, I was sexy.” American Idol Kris Allen tempted fate when he was 17. “I broke up with my future wife,” revealed the singer, who didn’t want to be tied down as high school drew to an end. “She was awesome, but I was a jerk,” Allen said of his then-girlfriend. “I was like, ‘Aw, it’s my senior year. I’ve got to be free like a bird. Can’t have this ball and chain on me.’ I was more worried about my senior year and having fun than being a boyfriend. I’m sorry, Katy. I was being a jerk!” “When I Was 17” airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Cheryl Tweedy Makes Some Sexy Faces

Here’s my future ex wife Cheryl Tweedy showing off some sexy faces during one of her performances the other day. I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard her sing, maybe she could send me a mix tape, I should probably get to know her a little better if we’re going to get married. Anyhow, with or without sound the girl is just hot. Maybe I’ll let her sing in the shower while I wash her back side. Call me.

LT Rape Defense: Still Sex Offender Material

Even if you take NFL legend Lawrence Taylor at his word about merely masturbating in front of a 16-year-old girl and not having relations with her, that’s still shady. It’s also still criminal behavior. Taylor’s rape defense he could still mean ending up a registered sex offender. Which makes sense. It’s not as if that absolves him of wrongdoing in the situation. After all, the former New York Giant is accused of patronizing an underage hooker. If the jury were to buy Lawrence’s expected argument, that he pleasured himself in front of the girl but did not have sex with her, he would qualify as a sex offender. LT may be the football Hall of Fame’s first registered sex offender . He could be forced to register as one, too. LT’s defense team is aware of this, and his lawyers are doing “everything possible to keep LT off the sex offender registry.” Taylor was arrested and charged earlier this month for his encounter with the teenage prostitute in a New York State Holiday Inn. Taylor says she said she was 19. Legally, that matters not. She’s 16, period. The incident with LT surfaced as a result of the hooker’s violent fight with her pimp , Rasheed Davis, around that time.

The-Dream Explains ‘Make-Up Bag,’ Featuring T.I.

Hitmaker’s latest single is from forthcoming LP, Love King. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias The-Dream Photo: MTV News When guys are in the doghouse with their girlfriends or wives, there are two ways to get themselves out: saying they’re sorry, which will likely keep them in the doghouse a bit longer — or showing that they’re sorry. The-Dream’s latest single, “Make-Up Bag,” embraces the latter strategy. “The song itself originated from just trying to find a great make-up gift,” The-Dream explained to MTV News from the Los Angeles set for the song’s video. “Some people like cards, some girls like yachts and whatnot. But this particular girl that I’m talking about just likes bags — that’s her thing, and that’s what this song is about that. I know everybody is saying, ‘Well, I don’t got five stacks for a make-up bag.’ Well, maybe that’s not actually what your girl likes anyway. It may be something else. It’s just about trying to find what they like. And if you got a real good girl she’s not gonna let you spend $5,000 on a bag anyway.” The track, written by The-Dream and produced by his frequent collaborator Christopher “Tricky” Stewart,” is slated to be the second single from the singer’s forthcoming Love King, due this summer. Fellow Atlanta native T.I. guests on the song, his first high-profile collaboration since the rapper’s release from federal prison and a halfway house earlier this year. The two artists have been locked down in the studio as of late; The-Dream told MTV News last month that he will appear on T.I.’s next album . He described T.I. as being in the zone, when he discussed his slew of new material. “Tip is in a zone, man,” he said. “He’s in one of those things. But me just being a lyric guy, what makes songs, I think, hits is when it comes from the heart and you really are saying something you mean. And you can feel it through the passion.” Next up, The-Dream will reading the clip for “Make Up Bag” and prepare for the release of his project, which he’s hinted could be his last solo LP. “It’s the last album, period,” he said in March. “I really would like it to be the last one if I could — in a perfect world. “In the back of my mind, I’m thinking [how] a fighter fights,” The-Dream continued. “You don’t retire on top. [Michael] Jordan didn’t retire on top. I’m not saying I’m the best [like him], but I’m the best at what I can do. And I can stop now and say, ‘This album is pretty good.’ ” Are you excited to hear The-Dream’s new album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists The-Dream
