Lindsay Lohan Skips Flight to L.A., is Not Smart

Troubled star Lindsay Lohan missed her scheduled flight to Los Angeles last night, despite a court date she is required to attend looming Monday a.m. She must be there in person or a bench warrant will be issued. The actress was supposed to fly back at 9 p.m. EST last night but skipped it, opting to stay at a club in New York to see a band called City of the Sun. She is now scrambling to get a flight to L.A. later today. Let’s just say that her track record with flights is about as good as her history behind the wheel, or with guys, or with movies ever since Mean Girls . It’s not a sign of her taking the court date seriously, even as she faces eight months in jail at least if convicted of lying to police and/or violating probation. Then again, would you expect anything better with her?

My name is Menna and never would I have thought I would be…

My name is Menna and never would I have thought I would be writing my own Bieber experience at any point. Last summer I finally managed to get Believe tour tickets for one of Justin’s UK shows. I had never seen Justin in person before that, even though I had been supporting him for 3 years. Little did I know that the first time I ever see him would be at a meet and greet.  One night before the concert I found out that my friend @nadeenm_ had won 2 M&G wristbands and was giving them to me as she lives in America! I can’t afford buying M&G’s so I never even thought about meeting him, it just seemed impossible. I’m so thankful, she’s changed my life. When my 3 friends and I got to Birmingham, I collected the wristbands and started queueing up with one of my friends. We couldn’t register what was happening It just felt like a dream. All of a sudden we felt someone hugging us from behind, it turned out to be our other two friends who managed to actually sneak in! I was so happy that we were all meeting him. We waited for about two more hours. During this time we saw Kenny walk by a few times and we met Nick Demoura, he was really nice!  When it was our turn to go backstage, we realized that people were going in and coming out straight away so we knew we’d only a few seconds with Justin. We had to go in groups of six so it was us four and two other girls. The two girls went in before us so I thought they would be standing next to Justin but somehow they weren’t and I managed to stand next to him in the photo. As soon as I walked in, I stopped breathing because he looked so unreal. He’s one of those people who look so much better in real life than they do in photos. It felt so strange – my idol who I’ve been supporting for years and only saw on screens was there in front of me. Breathing the same air as me. It was overwhelming, I can’t even describe it. Once I stood next to him and the photo was taken we were instantly dragged out by security. I hadn’t yet said anything to Justin, I was speechless but while I was getting dragged out I managed to grab his arm and I kind of whispered asking him for a hug but he couldn’t do anything because security was in the way. He just smiled and winked at me. I was so happy because I thought he would just ignore me as everything was rushed. I can’t really remember anything else it was a blur, it happened too fast but I am extremely grateful it happened. After I got out the room, a lady cut off our wristbands and took them. I just stood in a corner and broke down crying, I couldn’t stop. I was so confused and I didn’t know what had just happened, none of us could remember it properly but thankfully my friend had everything voice recorded on her phone and obviously the photo helped us remember it gradually.  Later that night the concert started and again, it felt so unreal to see him in real life. He put on an amazing show. I was so happy and we danced and sang all the way through. I’m writing this days later and I still cannot believe all of this has happened. I never believed that dreams really came true. Whenever people told me that I will meet Justin one day I just thought “yeah whatever” but it actually happened. Please believe me when I tell you that you will meet him, no matter who you are or where you are from. I would like to thank Nadeen for making this happen, I cannot thank her enough and also my friends who made this all even better. And of course Justin for meeting us and for just being so nice to us all. My life has been made. I crossed off the first thing on my bucket list.  -@ItsMenna (@BiebsFestival) Read more: My name is Menna and never would I have thought I would be…

6-Month-Old Shot, Dies of Multiple Bullet Wounds

A horrific story out of Chicago today, as a six-month girl named Jonylah Watkins has died from bullet wounds suffered Monday when she was shot five times while her dad changed her diaper. According to witnesses, a gunman opened fire on Jonathan Watkins around 1 p.m. when he was standing alongside his minivan, caring for his child in the front seat. Police are investigating the incident, which left Jonathan with gun shots in his side and buttocks and which was NOT the first time this family was faced with such a crime. Jonylah’s mother, Judy, was shot in the knee while pregnant with Jonylah, according to the woman’s mother, Mary Young. “There’s too much shooting over there,” Young told journalists Monday, adding of her granddaughter: “She’s nothing but 6 months old. How could anybody… what kind of heart?” Jonathan remains in critical care and is expected to survive, while Jonylah’s fatal wounds were in her thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels.

James Holmes Pleads Not Guilty; Judge Enters Plea on Behalf of Aurora Suspect

A Colorado judge entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of James Holmes, whose attorney said he was not ready to enter one in the Aurora shooting case. The judge thus entered a not guilty plea for him and said he could change the plea to not guilty by reason of insanity, the Associated Press reports. James Holmes , who faces 166 counts of murder, manslaughter and other crimes for the July 2012 massacre, sat silent, but alert, at the hearing. He alternately appeared to look at the judge and stare into space . Jailed for eight months now, the 25-year-old was reportedly restrained in a psychiatric ward for several days last fall out of fear he might harm himself. To be found not guilty by reason of insanity, Holmes has to prove he did not know right from wrong when he committed the crime of which he is accused. Prosecutors say Holmes planned the massacre well in advance, ordering arms and ammunition through the internet and dressing in paramilitary gear. To make matters even worse, police also found explosives in his apartment that had reportedly been rigged to go off when authorities entered. Holmes had no connection to his victims, and unlike Newtown shooter Adam Lanza , or Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, did not commit suicide. He has been compared to Jared Loughner , who opened fire outside a Tucson supermarket in 2011, killing 6 and wounding 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Loughner, a diagnosed schizophrenic, was initially ruled not competent to stand trial, but after more than a year of treatment inside a federal prison, pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to life without parole. The D.A. will make an announcement on April 1 about whether he intends to seek the death penalty for Holmes, whose defense asked for more time to prepare.

International Women’s Day 2013: Celebrating Female Causes, Empowerment

Who run the world? Girls. Not that you need an excuse, but if there were ever a day to bust out Beyonce’s female empowerment anthem, it’s International Women’s Day, March 8. Even today’s Google Doodle is commemorating the event, which honors women and is now celebrated in dozens of countries including the USA: IWD was established to acknowledge and champion the advancement of women in the working world, but its focus has also expanded over the years. The day is now utilized to draw attention to poor working conditions and low wages among women who haven’t had enough advancement opportunity. Today, the day has more international appeal with women joining together to spotlight issues of inequality and access to opportunity all over the world. International Women’s Day is an official holiday in the following nations: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. So if you’re a guy, make the women in your life feel extra special today. And if you are a woman, take the advice of Parks & Rec ‘s Tom Haverford to heart. And #treatyoself.

Ryan Seacrest Praises Charlie Askew as "Courageous"

American Idol announced its Top 10 of Season 12 last night and, to no one’s surprise, Charlie Askew was not among the group of finalists. The contestant suffered through a mini meltdown on Wednesday night, struggling through a rendition of “Mama” and then confiding to Ryan Seacrest on stage that he’s really an unhappy individual. Charlie Askew – “Mama” “I was impressed that he was courageous enough [to] talk about it,” Seacrest told Access Hollywood yesterday. “But I could tell when he was singing and when he was standing there and the judges were talking to him… he was going through a tough time.” Seacrest handled Askew’s admission – that his smile masks his discontent – with aplomb and support on stage, adding at the show’s party in Los Angeles last night: “I think something’s going on and I just wanted him to know that we know him, we’ve gotten to know him well. And if he needs a friend… we’re there as a friend.”
