Rick Sanchez & Roland Martin Slam Limbaugh, Beck as Illegitimate, ‘Racist’

CNN’s Rick Sanchez returned to attacking conservative talk radio on Wednesday’s Rick’s List program, lamenting that “a lot of people in this country…think that Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are legitimate news organizations.” Sanchez also brought on liberal CNN contributor Roland Martin to do the same: ” The Glenn Becks of the world…use the race-baiting…Rush Limbaugh and his racist language ” . The left-leaning CNN anchor brought on Martin and Memphis, Tennessee Tea Party founder Mark Skoda just after the bottom of the 4 pm Eastern hour to discuss the NAACP’s recently-passed resolution condemning the tea party movement’s “racism.” As you might expect, Sanchez singled out two isolated examples of racially-tinged signs at tea party rallies: a birther tea party protester who held a “sent Obama back to Kenya” sign while carrying a stuffed monkey, and a sign from the 9/12 rally in Washington, DC in 2009 that depicted President Obama as an African witch doctor. Martin treated Skoda in a confrontational manner from almost the beginning. The Memphis tea party leader brushed aside Sanchez’s citation of a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll which apparently found that “49 percent of Americans saying that they believe the tea party movement is based in some part on racial prejudice.” The pro-Obama contributor then pounced: “Well, actually, he didn’t actually answer your question. He danced around your question because I don’t- he obviously did not want to answer it . So I will let him have a second opportunity, Rick, to actually answer the question.” Sanchez agreed to Martin’s point and asked, “Would you like another chance to answer the question?” Skoda replied, “Sure, I’d be happy. First of all, I don’t know the statistics, and certainly, what the sampling size of this poll.” Both Sanchez and Martin interrupted at this point, repeating it was an ABC News/Washington Post poll, with the anchor adding, ” a very legitimate organization- very legitimate polling data .” The CNN anchor returned to the idea of the supposed legitimacy of the mainstream media versus conservative talk radio near the end of the segment as he and the pro-Obama contributor blasted Beck and Limbaugh: SANCHEZ: Roland, you get the last word. MARTIN: I…think part of the problem here is that when you look at the people who I think some tea parties- tea party folks look to, the Glenn Becks of the world, who say the President’s a racist, and they use the race-baiting, when you look at Rush Limbaugh and his racist language as well – that’s what you have here, and at the end of the day, if it’s about rights, fine, but reject the people who want to bring race into the rally, into the party. So, I salute those who do that. They’re the righteous folks. But not all tea party leaders are willing to do that, and I think the NAACP is simply saying, remove the racist elements from your existence because they’re the ones who are hindering your message. SANCHEZ: Well, unfortunately, there’s a lot of people in this country that look at legitimate news organizations like The Washington Post and scoff, and actually think that Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are legitimate news organizations . MARTIN: Well, they make up stuff. They’re not legitimate to me at all. SANCHEZ: Sad as that may be – gentlemen, we’ll have to leave it there. Martin also attacked Limbaugh during an October 20, 2008 segment with CNN’s Campbell Brown, using the cliched “fat idiot” insult against him. Earlier in the segment, the tea party leader noted that he and his organization had “repudiated racism at every chance,” and added a critique of the media’s coverage of the New Black Panther Party: “On the other hand, I didn’t hear too much being said when Shabazz suggested that white cracker babies and police should be murdered, and that is, far and away, extreme, versus a sign that might be carried at such an event.” Martin brushed aside this critique and attacked Fox News to the apparent amusement of Sanchez: MARTIN: Media Matters has an interesting take on that, and that Fox News has actually put the New Black Panther Party on the network more than anybody else in the past 10 years. So maybe they’re the ones pushing that story he’s talking about, so maybe they should answer why they are giving them a platform to espouse their views . (Sanchez laughs) That’s one thing they should answer…. CBS had a poll, as well, of tea party members where more than a quarter said they believed this president was doing more for blacks than anybody else – not based upon any real data, just simply a particular view. And so, I can understand why people hold a view. But the tea party should be saying, if you come with your racist rhetoric and your signs, you are not welcome- get out of here. That’s the right response. The CNN anchor then used a liberal talking point about the tea party movement in his next question to the tea party leader: “How much of this do you think, Mark, has to do with the fact that the tea party has come to fruition at a time when we have our first African-American president in the history of the United States, and it’s almost impossible to look at those two without seeing them together?” Sanchez has attacked conservative talk show hosts on several occasions. On July 9, the anchor hinted they were uneducated: “Many… don’t even have a college degree .” Earlier in 2010, the CNN personality repeatedly insinuated that ” crazy talk show hosts that are so right wing ” were to blame for ten congressman requesting extra security just before ObamaCare was passed. Back in 2009, Sanchez had to apologize for running a fake quote attributed to Limbaugh in October. Two months earlier, he accused anti-ObamaCare activists of spreading lies , attributing this to the protesters relying ” exclusively [on] right-wing media and right-wing television channels .” The CNN anchor also hinted on June 11, 2009 that the white supremacist who killed a guard at the U.S. Holocaust Museum, might have been ” motivated to move by right-wing pronouncements …on some TV and radio outlets.” Sanchez went beyond hinting during an April 8, 2009 segment about the murder of three Pittsburgh police officers: “That weekend tragedy involves a man who allegedly shot and killed three police officers in cold blood. Why? Because he was convinced, after no doubt watching Fox News and listening to right-wing radio , that quote, ‘Our rights were being infringed upon.'”

Glenn Beck Uses Military Charity To Fund His Book Launch – Tax Free

By now, unless you've been living under a rock, or below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, you know that Glenn Beck is about the lowest common denominator when it comes to corporate teevee and radio. Despite his ratings dive and a lack of sponsors, he still considers himself to be a winner. Well, he's really stepping in it this time. He's asking his fans to make donations to a military charity to fund a rally in Washington D.C. – the only problem is that the rally is nothing more than a release party for his new book and well…I'll let GottaLaff tell the rest of the story, keying off this audio report from Bill Press: http://crooksandliars.com/logan-murphy/glenn-beck-uses-military-charity-fun Yes, you heard right. Beck doesn’t even have a permit for The Big Rally yet. They’ve applied, but they’re still in negotiations. Yet, they’re selling merchandise as if it’s a done deal. He’s selling stuff for an event that may never take place. It’s also not being held at the Lincoln Memorial, but at the reflecting pool, across the street. Glenn Beck is lying about the location of the rally. And finally, he’s exploiting a charity by soliciting contributions to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. But see, the fine print says all contributions will first be applied to the rally, the one with Sarah Palin. All contributions in excess of the costs will go to the troops. Let’s recap: –He’s desecrating the memory of Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln; –He’s lying to the (gullible) American people who still choose to give him an ounce of credibility, and –He’s using a charity set up to raise money for members of the military, and then stealing the money he raises to pay for his little get together. I am flabbergasted that Glenn Beck would try to freeload like that! /snark WTF is wrong with pukes like Beck and Hannity, who claim to be sooo patriotic, yet use military charities to enrich themselves? Oh wait…they're Republicans…. added by: Stoneyroad

Bill Press: Glenn Beck Rally at Lincoln Memorial ‘Like Granting Al Qaeda Permission to Hold a Rally on Sept. 11 at Ground Zero’

It’s well known liberals don’t particularly care for Fox News host Glenn Beck, but wouldn’t be comparing him to al Qaeda be a bit much? On Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks on the World Trade Center claimed the lives of over 2,700 people . So what does that have to do with Glenn Beck? Well according to liberal talker Bill Press, Beck’s plans to hold a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28 are somehow akin to al Qaeda’s worldview. Press demanded the National Park Service revoke permission for Beck to hold a rally where Martin Luther King had given his “I have a dream” speech 47 years earlier. (h/t Outside the Beltway ) “In a slap at both President Lincoln and Dr. King, not to mention the American people, the National Park Service has given Glenn Beck permission to hold a Tea Party rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28 – 47 years to the day after Martin Luther King gave his magnificent ‘I Have A Dream’ speech,” Press wrote in a June 16 post on his blog . “If you ask me, that’s like granting al Qaeda permission to hold a rally on September 11 – at Ground Zero. What the hell were those bureaucrats at the Park Service thinking?” Press made similar remarks on his June 15 radio program , arguing the Lincoln Memorial was sacred and that it should not be “rented out like a cheap suit.” But even some of Press’ liberal audience had disagreed with the host, one suggesting if they had Press’ mentality 47 years ago, King might not have had the opportunity to speak at the memorial.

Glenn Beck’s Hilarious Sex Scandal Mock Interview With Al and Tipper Gore

The guys at the Glenn Beck Radio show had some fun at Al and Tipper Gore’s expense Thursday creating a mock interview where the host questioned the separated couple about the former Vice President’s antics with a masseuse in a Portland hotel room back in 2006. The role of the Global Warmingist in Chief was marvelously played by Pat Gray with Stu Burguiere doing an adequate Tipper. The interview began with Beck asking the Nobel Laureate what happened in the hotel Lucia that fateful evening. Al/Pat deliciously responded, “The global warming just became overwhelming as I was receiving massage” (video follows with more highlights and commentary): When Tipper/Stu was introduced, Al/Pat asked, “Do you remember the time when I read you poetry? When I said, ‘I was a child and she was a child in this kingdom by the sea. But we loved with a love that was more than love, I and my Annabel Lee.'” Tipper/Stu responded, “That really brings back memories.” Yes, Al reading Edgar Allan Poe poems to Tipper. Somehow you imagine them being more “The Raven” than “Annabel Lee,” but I digress. Later the couple renewed their claim that “Love Story” was indeed about them despite the convenient truth that Tipper didn’t die of cancer. But the highlight had to be Tipper/Stu’s marvelous haiku, “Get your hands off me. Why do you touch my buttocks? Mother Earth cries rape.” Now THAT’S poetry. Nice job, guys!

HuffPo Writer Also Wants to Eradicate Limbaugh, Beck, and O’Reilly

Huffington Post blogger, Frank Schaeffer, has been trying to eradicate elements of the right for quite some time.  Katie Bell had a great post on Monday covering his recent call to ‘eradicate’ fundamental Christianity.  It’s no secret that Schaeffer is very critical of religious elements in society.  But on a side note, were you aware that he is a former member of the religious right?  Apparently making mention of such information gives him street cred with the non-religious left.  He mentions it nearly every time he opens his mouth .   Take a drink every time Schaeffer mentions his past participation in the religious right, and you’re sure to be hammered in no time. Not content with attacking the religious right, Schaeffer has also made a career of attacking the conservative voice in general.  Last year, he penned a column so bereft of facts that even the Huffington Post should have been embarrassed by the content.  More troublesome is that this particular post included the pronouncement of a new Web site campaign that is wrong on two fronts:  It incorrectly predicts the rise of violence perpetrated by the ‘far right’ (anyone who dares to oppose Barack Obama), and it specifically labels conservative talk show hosts Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck as ‘domestic terrorists’. Schaeffer states in his October 5th, 2009 column that, “The extremism and paranoid delusions of the far, far loony right — in other words The Republican Party today as led and deformed by Beck/Limbaugh/Fox and the fundamentalist “Christians” — is now on full display.” He goes on to say, “Now some of us … are organizing to do something about this evil (yes I use that word deliberately) trend.  We’re doing this because more and more of us see that if unchecked the inflammatory garbage spewing from the Right’s hate machines will result in tragedy — in other words violence.” And with that came the announcement that he was endorsing a new Web site known as StopDomesticTerror.com .  The site sports a prominent home page banner that features the likes of Scott Roeder (George Tiller’s murderer), and James von Brunn (Holocaust Museum gunman).  Shockingly however, there are also images of O’Reilly, Beck, and Limbaugh alongside these murderers.  The implication being that conservative talk show hosts are as culpable in these attacks as the men who actually pulled the trigger. Schaeffer’s main contribution to the Web site is a letter penned to Attorney General Eric Holder.  While Holder doesn’t feel the need to read such major things as say, a law he plans to challenge , it is very unlikely he found time to delve into Schaeffer’s letter.  As such, we outline some key excerpts for Mr. Holder. The letter starts with, “I am a former leader in the religious right movement…”  No surprise there.  One has to wonder if he can legally change his name to that statement. “…and am writing to request a meeting with you or other top officials of the Department of Justice to discuss what I believe is an escalating threat of hate crimes and domestic terrorism. I am deeply concerned that we are facing a period like that before 9/11 where warnings were ignored or brushed aside for various unacceptable reasons.” Based on his column which specifically mentions the hate speech of O’Reilly, Limbaugh, and Beck, along with the fact that their images are plastered onto the homepage, one can only surmise that this statement makes a definitive comparison between the conservative talk show hosts and the 9/11 hijackers. Schaeffer then takes a swipe at the oh-so-threatening Town Hall protestors saying, “…angry demonstrators fueled by racism and hate speech have been directed to physically disrupt town hall meetings wearing “body armor” and “packing heat.” The letter wraps up with, “I would also like to share my ideas of how to reach out to the right wing media that foments this hate speech so they understand that such speech pushes some people to commit violence.” While Schaeffer is quick to note that this last statement should not be construed as a war on Fox News, he is contradicted by the site’s ‘action items’ which state:  We will ask companies to stop advertising on extremist media outlets such as Bill O’Reilly’s FOX TV show and Rush Limbaugh’s radio show because of their lies, incitement and racism. We will insist that ‘shock jocks’ stop targeting people with racist and violent hate speech designed to incite violence against others. Send a note to FOX advertisers to stop ads on Glenn Beck’s show, http://www.colorofchange.org/beck Of course, the Color of Change organization was co-founded by Beck’s good friend, Van Jones , so their credibility, much like that of their founder, is almost certainly non-existent. Every tragedy that the liberal left is able to exploit, they do so without concern for facts and logic.  It has been repeated over and again with: The aforementioned George Tiller murder. The IRS plane attack by Joseph Stack. The University of Alabama shooting spree. The Binghamton Immigration center shooting spree. The disproved murder of Census worker Bill Sparkman. Point being, this has and always will be a staple of the liberal left.  Schaeffer is no different.  With his recent rant on the ‘eradication’ of fundamental Christianity , has Schaeffer actually exposed himself?  By his own definition and understanding of how words can incite violence, has his call to eradicate fundamentalism identified him as a domestic terrorist? Only a former member of the religious right would know for sure… What say you, Mr. Schaeffer? – Send comments or tips to rustyweiss@verizon.net . Please join me on Facebook. Stephen Colbert Defends Helen Thomas By Bashing Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck

Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert on Wednesday defended Helen Thomas’s anti-Semitic remarks by attacking conservative talk radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, John Gibson, and Michael Savage. Addressing the comments that led Thomas to resign her position with the Hearst News Service, Colbert said, “Jesus Christ on a matzo cracker, Helen. What were you thinking?” He continued, “You don’t just blurt out racially charged comments on camera.” As pictures of the four conservative talkers appeared on the screen, Colbert quipped, “You do it on your radio show” (video follows with commentary): The Colbert Report Mon – Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c Helen Thomas’s Reputation www.colbertnation.com Colbert Report Full Episodes Political Humor Fox News Welcome to the Bizarro World of today’s liberal comedian that doesn’t understand the difference between news and opinion, and can’t distinguish a talk radio host from a member of the White House press corps. But this is common for modern day media members who equate anti-Semitic and/or racist comments by folks charged with reporting the news to remarks they find offensive from people on the radio. Making matters worse is the number of Comedy Central viewers that actually rely on Colbert and colleague Jon Stewart as their primary source for information on current events. It would indeed be laughable if it wasn’t so frightening.

Matthews Perverts Tea Party Movement: Participants View Federal Government as British Occupiers

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews’s ratings lag  far behind those of his competition, Fox News’ Glenn Beck, on a regular basis . So is he perhaps trying to become the anti-Glenn Beck to bolster his stature in the cable news world? On MSNBC’s June 9 “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Matthews commented on the Gadsden flag , as if it represented an attitude that viewed the federal government as a occupying force, comparable to pre-Revolutionary War America. “You know that Gadsden flag, the ‘Don’t Tread on Me Flag’ with a rattlesnake is so important,” Matthews said. “They believe, a lot of people in the right – that the federal government has replaced the British as the occupying force in North America and they have to be ready to fight it. It’s serious business.” But the scary thing, according to Matthews, is these people he has caricatured have guns. “Some have the guns, some don’t,” Matthews said. “Some have the Tea Party aspect. But it’s always that flag, ‘Don’t Tread on Me.’ They believe Washington is London.” And while it has been documented that the media have repeatedly – and unsuccessfully – tried to correlate violence with the Tea Party movement, Matthews continued to play the “scary business” card – that this movement was trying to circumvent the role of the Supreme Court as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution. “The scary part of this is, do they really believe in self-government in the end – self-government?” Matthews said. “Or is the government always going to be the enemy? And the other scary part is the Supreme Court doesn’t get the right to determine what’s constitutional. They do. And they’ve got guns. Serious business.”
