Shaq said listen here young whippersnapper… In a recent interview, Shaquille O’Neal let it be known exactly how he feels about new Lakers player Dwight Howard: O’Neal sat down with Times-Picayune sports writer Rachel Whittaker to talk about his career, what he does with his free offseasons, Dwight Howard’s trade to the Lakers, a potential invite to the Mexican League and more. How do you spend your time in the offseason? “I take care of a lot of business. I own a lot of businesses. I just look at them; I don’t try to run them. (President Dwight) Eisenhower said the smartest leaders are the ones who hire people smarter than them. So I got some really smart people working for me, and I just manage them. I always look at the books and make sure everything’s all right up there. I own car washes, 40 24-hour fitness centers, 55 Five Guys and a lot of other stuff.” How do you like being a TV analyst now? “It’s fun. I get to lend a little bit of my expertise.” What was your reaction to Dwight Howard being traded to the Lakers? “I don’t have a reaction. You have to care to have a reaction. I’ve got businesses to run. I always tell people that in order to step in my shoes you have big shoes to fill. For him, he’s going to have to at least win three to get people’s respect.” How do you feel about a big center like Howard following your same path to the Lakers following four years with the Magic? “I’m flattered, if you want to put it like that.” Is there any truth to the reports that you’ll be playing games in the Mexican League next month? “No truth to that. It’s kind of unfortunate that so-called experts have to get their sources from the Internet. It’s backwards. Especially like when people from ESPN know me and they can call me and ask me, but somebody else said it so they want to be the first to report it even though it’s not true. However, we could talk, but nobody has contacted me.” So you definitely won’t? “Probably not.” What do you think of the Honey Badger’s decision making after being declared ineligible for this season? “I’m glad he’s coming back to school. In this lifetime we don’t get too many chances, so this is a warning for him because he won’t get another chance. But I’m glad he’s going back to school.” What kind of an honor was it to have your number retired? “It just shows I’ve progressed as a player. Everyone wants to be a great player. You’re not really great until you win championships or your number is retired. My best jersey retirement was the one at LSU. Nothing will ever top that — there are a lot of great guys that have come through here, and then to be the only one next to Pistol Pete (Maravich) and Bob Pettit.” As you progressed more and more in your basketball career, did you think it would be possible to have an accomplishment like that? “That was my goal. When you set a goal … you’ll achieve it or you won’t achieve it. That was my goal to get my jersey up next to those guys. I really had to play my ass off and be able to win a lot of championships. We did that, and it was good.” Wait a minute… Did he say he owns 55 Five Guys’??? Cotdayuuuuuum! D.Howard gonna have to do a lot to catch up with that. Source

Producer Noah ’40’ Shebib tells MTV News in an exclusive interview that while working with the MC, ‘We get to do what we want.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Drake Photo: Getty Images One look at the production credits on Drake ‘s 2010 debut, Thank Me Later, serves as a reminder to just how hot the Toronto MC was out of the gate. Guests like Jay-Z, T.I. and Alicia Keys lent their voices, while multiplatinum producers like Kanye West, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland offered their sonic expertise. The music world was truly Drake’s oyster, but on his sophomore set, Take Care, Drizzy scaled things back in order to make a bigger impact. Instead of pooling together his resources and using his hitmaking influence, Drake went back to basics, choosing to record the entire album in Toronto with friend and engineer/producer Noah “40” Shebib , the studio wiz who helped Drake cook up his 2009 breakout tape, So Far Gone . “I can’t sit there and tell you that anybody made any conscious decisions to the extent of, ‘Oh, we’re gonna make this feel of an album,’ ” 40 told MTV News in December from Take Care studios in Toronto. “We really just make records and cut music until someone says, ‘That’s it: You can’t make any more music; you gotta stop.’ ” The result was a cohesive and emotional 18-track ride, with two bonus tracks for iTunes. The MC revealed to MTV News that the narrative that drives his latest LP was inspired by “Houstatlantavegas,” a So Far Gone track produced by 40. “I really didn’t start working with Drake production-wise until So Far Gone ,” Shebib said. “As far as Drake and music and the people around him, he really controls that, and he picks all those records, and my goal is to facilitate that.” And facilitate he did. 40 either produced or co-produced 15 of the 20 total Take Care tracks. One song in particular, the Lil Wayne- and Andre 3000-assisted “The Real Her,” started with a reverse piano loop that the beatsmith had given to Drake a year before they began working on the album. It might have seemed insignificant at the time, but Drake eventually came back with a song idea off of that one sample. “What ends up happening a lot of times with our records is that, because I can do a lot of things in the studio, whether it be play instruments or produce or edit or run Pro Tools or edit vocals, whatever the case may be, I help him get out his ideas,” 40 said. “I think that’s the goal of any good producer, is to make sure the artist is delivering what they want.” With Cash Money/ Young Money’s track record of success, Drake’s label trusted in the rapper and producer’s abilities, allowing them to create without looking over their shoulder. Safe to say, it all paid off when Take Care debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart, pushing over 631,000 copies in its first week after it was released November 15. The album is now well-past platinum, on its way to 2 million records sold in just under three months. “We get to do what we want: We don’t have to clear it with the A&Rs or anybody. We are our own A&Rs,” Shebib explained. “And that’s the greatest freedom you can possibly have in this business.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake Related Photos ’40’ Making ‘Take Care’

‘People say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it,’ singer says of her next album. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Getty Images With 2011 behind her, Ke$ha knows exactly how she’ll be spending the next few months. She’s preparing to hit the studio in early 2012 for her next album. And while she’s favored Auto-Tune, club beats and lyrics about glitter for her past musical endeavors, this time around, anything is possible. “I think that my first record was heavily influenced by Licensed to Ill and the Beastie Boys and that [first] record is, like, very brash and very sassy and very unapologetic and irreverent. And I love that,” she told MTV News about her 2010 debut Animal . “I’m really proud of that, but I have learned over the past three years of doing this that being vulnerable doesn’t mean you’re weak. I very much want to be seen as a strong woman, but I realize that vulnerability can also be a strength. So on my next record, you are going to hear probably a little more of that. I’m not going to make an acoustic, sad entire record. But you might hear a little bit more vulnerability on the next record ’cause I have realized just from this Dylan cover coming out [on Amnesty International’s anniversary album] that it can be such a strength and a nice balance to humanize the other side of my personality,” she added. “I’ve been writing but I haven’t gone in with [producer Dr. Luke] yet. He’s working on stuff and I’m working on stuff for it. But [to] actually start, we go into the studio in January, early January.” If fans are looking for something new from K-Dollar Sign and can’t wait for this next record, she already has some music for you to listen to. She recently dropped her latest “Sleazy” remix and will be one of the many artists covering Bob Dylan for the Amnesty International anniversary album out on January 24. But even with all that out in the world, she’s especially excited for this next album. “I feel like I don’t necessarily agree, but people say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it in the form of my pop music,” she declared. “That’s the goal. We’ll see what happens. That’s a very ambitious and lofty goal, but that’s my goal.” As one year ends and another begins, the bedazzled singer took a moment to reflect on 2011, and it was quite the wild ride for her. “The whole year has been absolutely crazy, but I think that my tour, my headlining tour with LMFAO and Spank Rock, that was like really exciting to be a headliner for the first time really in my life, to be playing some of the same places I was playing opening for Rihanna,” she said. “Sometimes you get caught up in the details, but when you’re onstage at Jones Beach in front of 10,000 people, those moments, money can’t buy those moments.” Noting that her appearance at Glastonbury Festival also topped her list of accomplishments for 2011, she admits she’s still reeling from Britney Spears’ recording of “Till the World Ends,” which she penned. “That song just came on the radio and I have to say, I love hearing Britney Spears sing my lyrics, every single day. It never gets old. I get so excited,” she said. “It’s better than any drug when you hear Britney Spears sing a song you wrote.” K hopes that in the next year, more people will see that she’s a lot more than just glitter and hot pants. “I have a lot of growing and evolving to do,” she explained. “I’m definitely not a one-trick pony and I think more people are starting to see that more and more.”
