Prognosticators have maybe five (or even as few as two) possible Oscar winners, and most lists of ten (or so) have many of the same titles though perhaps in various orders. But folks, the nominations have yet to come in and the Academy made that clear today with its list of 282 feature films for 2012 that are eligible for Best Picture. [ Related: Oscar Index: ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Caught In The Cross-Hairs ] Rules are rules and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially considers a feature film that played in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31 and begin a minimum seven consecutive day run. [ Related: Golden Globes Unveil 70th Edition Nominees ] Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format. Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days to Django Unchained ; The First Time to Flight ; Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted to Magic Mike ; 17 Girls to The Sessions … They’re all on the official list , so don’t count out the non-elite not making Awards headlines. The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Golden Globe nominees Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor turned out for a special screening of their epic tearjerker The Impossible and talked to me about how they summoned the emotional wherewithal to play a couple whose family is torn apart by a tsunami. The picture’s director, J.A.Bayona also attended and told me he had no qualms about casting a Scottish and an Australian actor to play the real-life Spanish couple on which the harrowing story is based. Bayona pointed out that the film never clarifies the couple’s nationality. Besides, the actual husband and wife who inspired the story were on the carpet and they were clearly supportive of the film. This year’s nominees for the Golden Globes have been announced, and the nods include plenty of talent… and skin! It’s nice to see these nude ladies getting the credit they so hardily deserve from Tinseltown’s most titillatingly named award show. The Best Actress in a Drama category features the most nominudes [ nude in the role they were nominated for- SC ], with three of the five delivering the naked goods. Marion Cotillard in Rust and Bone (2012), Naomi Watts in The Impossible (2012), and Rachel Weisz in The Deep Blue Sea (2012). Other highlights include Best Supporting Actress nominude Helen Hunt who made her full-frontal debut in The Sessions (2012), Best Actress In A TV Series – Comedy with a nod to Lena Dunahm for consistently showing her girls in Girls , and Best Actress In A Series, Mini-Series Or TV Movi e acknowledging that Nicole Kidman made us very Gel-horny in Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012). Finally, the Lifetime Award is going to Jodie Foster , who is also a lifetime skinchiever here at Mr. Skin for flashing her pint-sized pair! See pics after the jump!
All right, all right, all right. Awards season has officially gotten down in the dirt with a little bit of glorious stank. The New York Film Critics Circle , an august body despite three years of madness under Armond White’s leadership, has named Matthew McConaughey the year’s best supporting actor for his work in both Magic Mike and Bernie . With this double-gun recognition, my guess is that the group felt this was a salute to McConaughey’s leading performance in Killer Joe , and all the forced fried chicken-sucking it included, too. It’s quite a comeback. For years McConaughey served merely two purposes: appearing in dreadful rom coms like Failure to Launch and having a last name that drove copyeditors crazy. But we knew – we knew that beneath the skin of that shirtless Texan beat the heart of a courageous and unpredictable performer who could, when given a chance, deliver. I don’t know a single person who hasn’t been itching for an excuse to love this guy again. McConaughey’s turn as Dallas , the “Den Father,” I guess you could call him, of the strippers in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike , is now a genuine contender for the Golden Globes and the Oscars . (No diss to Bernie , but Magic Mike was a bonafide box office hit, has Warner Bros. behind it and, you know, ass chaps.) Plus he’s already gotten a nomination for it and Killer Joe at the Spirit Awards in the bag. Our suggestion to M-McC: just keep livin’. The rest of the world is now hip to how awesome you can be. Of course, not everyone can recognize greatness when they see it. A sampling on Twitter shows jubilant critics (someone pass CinemaBlend’s Katey Rich some smelling salts) but more than one wiesenheimer suggests that a McConaughey win for his acting prowess is actually part of the Mayan’s countdown to extinction. Con Edison notified customers in the area today that power is estimated to return Saturday at 11PM. Magnolia Pictures will roll out Jack And Diane whose director Bradley Rust Gray lured a nice cache of talent, Deadline reports . Showtime to Debut Roman Polanski Documentary Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out will bow in 2013. The film is a follow-up to Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired by Marina Zenovich. The latter recounts the filmmaker’s arrest in 2009 in Switzerland en route to the Zurich Film Festival, facing extradition to the U.S., THR reports .
