Gary Carter, an 11-time All-Star who will forever be associated with the 1986 World Champion New York Mets, has passed away from brain cancer. He was 57. The former baseball legend was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor last year and lost his battle with the illness about two hours ago. His daughter confirmed the news in the following statement: “I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 p.m. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know.” Carter, who also played for the Montreal Expos, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. He is survived by his wife, three children and three grandchildren.
Dan Abrams is our new hero. The Good Morning America host remained calm and reasonable in the face of Nancy Grace’s condescending absurdity today, as he tried to get Grace to admit that she shouldn’t have wondered about whether or not someone pushed Whitney Houston’s body under water in her hotel room last Saturday. What prompted Grace to hint at that possibility? Nothing in this case, merely her experience as an attorney overall, which gives her a unique view on what comes next. Nancy Grace on Good Morning America “There is nothing delicate or nice about a murder, a death, an unexpected death, or an autopsy,” Grace said. “What that means in the real world, not the ivory tower of Harvard Law School… an autopsy, of why her body was transported to the Coroner’s Office, is to determine cause of death whether it be overdose, natural causes, accident, or homicide. It is not a homicide and I am thankful for that, but I still want the truth.” Okay. That makes her the same as about 100 million other Americans. Why utter a word about anyone shoving Whitney’s head under water? Abrams tried to get his guest to focus on this specific question. “I’m arguing with you over going on television and making a comment that I think was rightfully viewed as inappropriate,” he says in the video above. “And sometimes there’s a time to say ‘you know what, I shouldn’t have said that in retrospect. A nicer way to say that, or a more accurate way to say that, would have been x, y, or z.'” Of course, Grace remained obstinate, and Robin Roberts ended the segment with a simple, obvious point. Well… an obvious point to anyone not looking cash in on a well-publicized death. Why not just wait until the autopsy results are released before commenting at all?

By Jocelyn Vena Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore Photo: Getty Images After dodging separation and affair rumors for months now, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher officially announced plans to divorce Thursday (November 17). “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton,” Moore said in a statement to The Associated Press. “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.” “Two and a Half Men” star Kutcher took to Twitter to confirm the split. “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK,” he wrote on the social networking site. As of press time, Moore’s Twitter handle was still @mrskutcher. The two had no children together but did start the DNA Foundation last year to raise awareness about the sexual exploitation of young women around the world. People magazine reports that in the wake of Kutcher’s affair scandal earlier this fall, the two had been working on their relationship. “Demi loves Ashton as much as she hates public humiliation,” a source told the website around the time the affair rumors broke. “The marriage isn’t good right now.”

By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rob Markman Heavy D in 1991 Photo: Ron Galella / Getty Images A private funeral for late rapper Heavy D (born Dwight Errington Meyers) will take place Friday, but on Thursday (November 17), his family held an open memorial service from noon to 6p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York. Fans were given a chance to say goodbye to the Overweight Lover, as he was affectionately known. The weather in New York had dipped into the 40s, but that didn’t prevent fans and friends — including the Wayans brothers — from showing up to pay their final respects. Outside the Grace Baptist Church, police officials set up barricades that stretched as far as three city blocks. A steady stream of visitors, heavy with high school students, made their way inside for a last glimpse of the local hero. Once inside, ushers guided fans to the front of the church, where Heavy D lay in an open casket, dressed in a gray suit, with his arms folded. Just above his casket, a video monitor played footage of the Jamaican-born performer from his early days. After fans paid their respects, Heavy’s family did their best to thank each and every visitor as they exited the church. On Friday, guests at Heavy D’s invite-only funeral services will include Mary J. Blige, Diddy (who both worked with Heavy at Uptown Records) and DJ Eddie F and G-Wiz, his group members in the popular ’90s outfit Heavy D & the Boyz. Heavy D was rushed to the hospital last week after collapsing in his Beverly Hills home. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward, at the age of 44. The Los Angeles coroner’s office has not yet announced an official cause of death. Nancy Grace likely jived her way off Dancing With the Stars last night. Already a huge underdog to make it beyond the top five, the pressure started to get to her early on “Are you actually acting tired?” she snapped at Tristan MacManus. “You don’t have twins that get up at 5, you don’t have a full-time job and I do!” MacManus’ reply: “I’m tired of you.” “I’m tired of you, too! So there!” she retorted. They were mostly jokinh, but that still set the tone for their instant jive, which you can see below. Nancy Grace is great at blowing smoke about Amanda Knox or Casey Anthony. She could not catch fire on Dancing With the Stars Monday night, however. Despite wearing a red wig, red eyelashes and a flirty, fringed dress … her jive just didn’t ignite very well at all. “This wasn’t a good dance for you,” judge Len Goodman said, not mincing words as always. “It was a disappointment for me.” She earned 21 points for it, giving her 44 out of 60 for the evening.
