Lady Gaga Professes Love For Madonna, Says Pop Icon Supports and Approves of "Born This Way"

Lady Gaga has been accused of ripping off Madonna with her newest single, “Born This Way.” On the Tonight Show last night, she didn’t really refute this. “You know, there is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me,” she said. “I am the hugest fan personally and professionally.” It sounds like the feeling is reciprocal, too. Lady Gaga on The Tonight Show – Full Interview “I got an email from her people sending me their love and support on behalf of the single,” Gaga said. “And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be.” Indeed. Good enough for Madonna, good enough for us! The Lady, who performed “Born This Way” live at the Grammys Sunday, went on to explain to Jay Leno what the song means to her – and everybody: “Essentially, with the visuals and the music and lyrics, it’s about being able to know that when you were born, you weren’t just born in that moment.” “You have your entire life to realize the person that you’re potentially going to become and however you choose to be is part of your destiny.” “In this moment, if you don’t feel entirely happy and secure in who you are… it’s never too late to harness your confidence, your inner superstars.” “The freedom in the song, the R&B, early ’90s vibe it has, it’s so full of love and spirit, and I think that it’s the spirit people are reacting to the most.” “I just want everyone to rejoice and celebrate and be unafraid to be happy. It doesn’t always have to be so dark. It doesn’t always have to be sexy.” “Sometimes it’s wonderful just to celebrate life and kind of go to church with it.” Gaga recently admitted on 60 minutes that she smokes a lot of pot when she writes music. Whatever kind she partakes in, we gotta find some of it. What do you think of “Born This Way”?

Grammys Give Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Immediate iTunes Bump

Cee Lo, Esperanza Spalding, Lady Antebellum and more also see post-show sales increases. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga performs at the Grammys on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images It didn’t take long for the big winners at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards to get an iTunes bump. Less than 24 hours after the show, the iTunes singles and albums charts were flooded with songs that were either performed on the show or which won awards during the program. At press time on Tuesday morning (February 15), the iTunes singles tally was topped, not surprisingly, by Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which got its televised debut during the show, followed by Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor,” which Eminem and Dre (making his first televised performance in nearly a decade) also performed on the show. Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” was at #3, followed by Cee Lo Green’s “F— You,” which was one of the most colorful and bizarre live spots in the three-and-a-half-hour show thanks to his outer-space Henson Puppet band and a cameo from a sultry Gwyneth Paltrow . Mumford & Sons also got some iTunes love after playing on the show with folk legend Bob Dylan, which helped their song “The Cave” hit #5, followed by the night’s big Grammy victors, Lady Antebellum , and their Song and Record of the Year winner, “Need You Now.” Although she didn’t perform “Firework” on the Grammys, Katy Perry’s anthem hung in at #7, ahead of Rihanna, who had two shots onstage at the Grammys. Her “S&M,” whose video is the subject of legal action, came in at #8, with Bruno Mars ‘ “Grenade” and non-Grammy performer Avril Lavigne’s “What the Hell” rounding out the top 10. Just outside the top 10, there were plenty more Grammy bumps to be found: Cee Lo’s censored “Forget You” (#11), Mumford & Sons’ “Little Lion Man” (#12), Muse’s “Uprising” (#20), Rihanna and Drake’s “What’s My Name?” (#21), Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” (#24) and Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” (#29). The iTunes album chart told a similar story, with Mumford’s Sigh No More holding on to the #1 slot, followed by Bieber’s Never Say Never remixes disc, Album of the Year winner the Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs was back in play at #3, proceeded by Grammy performers the Avett Brothers’ I and Love and You at #4, with Best New Artist Esperanza Spalding’s Chamber Music Society climbing to #6. Other Grammy album action included: Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now (#7), Bieber’s My World 2.0 (#8), Eminem’s Recovery (#9), Rihanna’s Loud (#10), Florence and the Machine’s Lungs (#11), Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic (#12), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#14), as well as albums by the Black Keys (#17), Muse (#19), Bruno Mars (#21) and Spalding’s 2009 Esperanza release (#28). Lady Gaga Talks Grammy ‘Vessel,’ Born This Way Details

Mother Monster teases in a radio interview that ‘Born This Way’ is ‘just the beginning of this album.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady gaga arrives at the 2011 Grammys on Sunday Photo: MTV News Lady Gaga called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Tuesday morning (February 15) and opened up about the “Born This Way” “roller coaster” she finds herself on these days. She also talked about that now-famous egg-like “vessel” in which she arrived to the Grammys on Sunday. “Only I would pull up to an awards show in a giant industrial-sized truck,” she explained about the vehicle that brought her and her unusual container to the big event. “I was in [the vessel] for about 72 hours and it was a very creative experience and it was time for me to prepare and really think about the meaning of the song. I really wanted to be born onstage.” Gaga finally emerged from her egg thingy when she took the stage at the Grammys to perform her new single live for the first time. “It was such a magical moment. I can’t even say enough about the joy that I felt singing ‘Born This Way’ on that stage,” she gushed. “We were just so emotional and so excited and I put so much hard work into creating the performance, designing it. I really have spent a tremendous amount of time dancing and working on becoming a better dancer … It’s important to me, if I want to someday be remembered as a great, great artist, I think I have to do what all the greats did — I’ve got to sing and dance live at the same time.” As for her unusual Whitney Houston shout-out during the ceremony, Gaga explains that it was a thank-you a long time in the making. “I can’t tell you how much I listened to her growing up,” she explained. “She was my vocal idol for so many years. I thought of her voice when I wrote [‘Born This Way’], because she’s just such an incredible singer. I sort of planned to thank her a long time ago, at some point. I said, ‘If I ever win a Grammy I’m gonna thank Whitney’ … so I did.” During the chat with Seacrest, Gaga also gave more details about her album, Born This Way , which comes out May 23. “The next single is called ‘Judas,’ ” she confirmed ( Vogue originally reported the news about this track, which was produced by RedOne ). “And that will be out a couple weeks before the album.” As for the LP as a whole, the singer said, “It’s eclectic. I wouldn’t tell everyone to expect lots of the same kind of songs like ‘Born This Way.’ I explore lots of different genres in tandem with dance music and electronic music and industrial music. I have expanded even further in that area, and I’m so very proud of it.” Later on the conversation, Gaga reiterated, “The great news is ‘Born This Way’ is just the beginning of this album. It’s certainly not even the biggest hit on the album. You have to hear the rest of the record. I don’t want to boast about it, because I am humble about what I do, but it’s a great album and I can’t wait to share each and every song with my fans.” Related Photos Lady Gaga’s Grammy Night Lady Gaga Knows How To Make An Entrance Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Rockets Up Billboard Charts

Instant-smash single is poised to debut at #1 on Hot 100. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Who didn’t see this one coming? Thanks to the pushed-up release date on Friday and the most talked-about entrance at Sunday night’s Grammys — not to mention what must have amounted to endless spins at clubs over the weekend — Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” is making some chart history. Billboard reported that after just three days of availability, the tune shot to a record-setting debut on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart at #14 and is poised to possibly debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week thanks to brisk digital sales. The first single from the album of the same name due on May 23 got 4,602 plays, which gives it the highest detections total by a debuting song in the chart’s 18-year history, representing an audience of 39.3 million. Citing unnamed sources, the magazine also reported that “Born” sold more than 450,000 downloads since its release on Friday morning, which could help the song debut at #1 on the Hot 100 and make it only the 19th song ever to do so on that chart. Gaga could also potentially wrest a record for the biggest debut track for a woman from Britney Spears if download sales continue to climb. Spears’ “Hold it Against Me” rocked the chart a month ago with 411,000 in sales, but if Gaga’s numbers hold she could land the fourth-largest digital track debut of all time behind Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” (636,000) the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” (465,000) and Flo Rida’s “Low” (460,000). The star stopped by “Jay Leno” the day after the Grammys, and in addition to explaining that she and Madonna have no beef over complaints by some that “Born This Way” bears too much of a resemblance to some earlier Material Girl hits, Gaga also announced her upcoming May HBO special and explained the inspiration behind her new album. She also revealed that she changed up the entire look of her Grammy performance two days before it aired because she wasn’t happy with it. “I don’t want the band and dancers to feel like a band and dancers,” Gaga said, explaining why her crew was dressed in flesh-tone vinyl outfits that matched her own. When Leno made a crack about her trio of Grammy outfits, which included a molded leather bodice created by fashion icon Thierry Mugler, Gaga said the latter had a cosmic inspiration. “It was inspired by humanoids, alien sex humanoid hybrid women,” she said matter of factly, rocking some of the low budget sci-fi alien face-ridged makeup she debuted at the Grammys, on Leno’s show. The talk show host pointed to her third getup, which she said featured a giant black “church” hat, and asked if maybe it didn’t block the view of the star behind her at the show, actor Will Smith. Gaga promised it didn’t and added that she is in love with his daughter’s hit single. “I love Willow,” gushed Gaga , who took a series of photos with the pre-teen Smith family singer on her lap at the show. “I told her that she inspired me to whip my hair back and forth!” Though she claimed to have written “Born This Way” in a matter of minutes, Gaga said she spent more than a year perfecting it and tweaking the music, promising that it is just one of the many sounds you’ll hear on the album. “The record is kind of eclectic in a way,” she said. “The rest of the songs on the album are quite different from ‘Born This Way.’ ” As for the album’s theme, Gaga said it’s about “being able to know that when you were born, you weren’t just born in that moment, you have your entire life to realize the person that you’re potentially going to become and whoever you choose to be was part of your destiny.” Her hope, she said, was to encourage people who are feeling bullied or disenfranchised at the moment to realize that it’s “never too late to harness your inner superstar.” For more Grammy Awards analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News! And the Grammy for Best Nude Artist Goes to….

2010 was a banner year for cleavage at the Grammys, as the ladies of the music biz charitably showed off their chest clefts. Performers included XXXtina Aguilera , busting out of a slinky black gown, and Katy Perry , whose gigantic 32DD milk jugs deserve their own Grammy for Best Male Tent-Pitching Performance. Lady Gaga , freakishly sexy as always, walked away with the award for Best Female Pop Vocal. Despite her penchant for perturbing her audience with her fashion choices (remember the literal meat curtains she sported at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards?), Gaga rarely exposes her hoo-ha. Fans are left searching for unguarded moments of nip slip, like in her Alejandro video. But luckily, the Grammy for Best Nude Artist has some stiff competition…

When Lea Michele Met Barbra Streisand: A Play in Two Tweets

To say that Lea Michele has been waiting to meet Barbra Streisand for a long time is a bit of an understatement. When Movieline caught up with the Glee star last summer to play My Favorite Scene , all she could talk about was Babs’ star-making turn in Funny Girl . “I just related to that movie so much,” she said. “It’s my favorite movie ever.” As anyone who saw her performance at the Tonys — or any minute of Glee , in general — can attest, she wasn’t lying. So, what would happen if Michele ever got the opportunity to meet Streisand out in public? Some hyperventilating and tweeting, of course.
