RihRih is mourning the loss of her grandmother Clara Dolly Brathwaite , who passed away last night after battling cancer. The Bajan banger took to Twitter to announce the sad news and has posted several recent touching photos of herself, including a visit she made to the hospital to see her sick granny just two weeks ago. As well as pictures of herself with her grandmother when she was a child. The devastating news is said to have left RihRih in pieces and could be the reason for her recent shambolic performance the night before at the Peace & Love Festival in Sweden. Revellers at the event were left fuming by her performance where the singer was 45 minutes late, lip-synced and appeared to be intoxicated during her set. Rest in Peace Clara ‘Dolly’ Braithwaite! Can you believe this is his first interview in 12 years??? D’Angelo has cleaned up his act and is preparing to finally release another album and he talks about his past struggles with fame and the road to his return with GQ. We’ve got some excerpts for you here: R&B Singer And Mother Of D’Angelo’s Son Angie Stone Recalls When Fame Started To Take Over : Stone remembers an event in Manhattan in September 1996 that was billed as Giorgio Armani’s tribute to D’Angelo. Stone—thirteen years older than D—was three months pregnant with their son. They headed to the event together in a limo, but as they neared the venue where D was going to perform, it suddenly pulled over. “He was asked to get into another car, where he would be escorted by Vivica Fox,” Stone says, her voice breaking slightly. The lissome Fox had just appeared with Will Smith in the blockbuster Independence Day. “It was a Hollywood moment. They wanted a trophy girl. I had to walk in behind them to flashing cameras. It started the wheels turning of what was yet to come.” D’Angelo Turned Down Madonna: When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing “Happy Birthday” at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. The Energy Behind “Untitled” Was Less About Sex Than Food : Paul Hunter, the director hired to make the video, says his work was misunderstood: “Most people think the ‘Untitled’ video was about sex, but my direction was completely opposite of that. It was about his grandmother’s cooking.” I’ve stopped by Hunter’s office in Culver City, California, to hear how D’Angelo came to be filmed bare-chested (but for a gold cross on a chain around his neck), wearing only a pair of precariously low-slung pajama bottoms, looking like a wolf circling a b!tch in heat. Illuminated from every angle, he spins very slowly as the camera fetishizes his every ripple and drop of sweat. I’ve imagined a lot of things that inspired the song’s rousing lyrics (Love to make you wet / In between your thighs cause / I love when it comes inside of you), but collard greens weren’t among them. Hunter is quick to explain that he, like D, was raised in the Pentecostal church. “When I used to sing in the choir,” Hunter says, “after the rehearsal, you go in to eat. I remembered seeing the preacher looking at a lady’s skirt one week and then, the next Sunday, talking about how fornication is wrong.” Such mixed messages about the pleasures of the flesh were intertwined with the pleasures of the palate—part of the same sensual stew. “So I was like, ‘Think of your grandmother’s greens, how it smelled in the kitchen. What did the yams and fried chicken taste like? That’s what I want you to express.’ “ The video may have looked like foreplay, but it was actually about family, Hunter insists—about intimacy. Later, when I tell D’Angelo this, he says, “It’s so true: We talked about the Holy Ghost and the church before that take. The veil is the nudity and the sexuality. Gossip website Starfeine broke the news and obtained the photographic evidence via a snapshot of Cyrus headed to the hospital, holding the injured finger wrapped in gauze. “She cut her finger while cooking,” Cyrus’ rep told Us Weekly. “[She] had to get a few stitches. She’s doing fine.” Cyrus later tweeted an update about the incident via a back-and-forth Twitter conversation with fan site MileyCyrus.bz and let everyone know she was doing fine, aside from being peeved that paparazzi followed her to the hospital. “@MileyCyrusBz as you can tell by the horrible faces I’m making I obviously didn’t know they were there,” Cyrus tweeted in response to the paparazzi shots. “Pretty messed up following me to ER. I’m all stitched up & have on a splint so I’m good,” she added via a follow-up tweet . “As you can tell by my expression, didn’t feel so good. Curse u blender!” We’re not exactly sure what Cyrus was doing sticking her hands into a blender, but we’re happy she’s all stitched up and on the mend. Starfeine claimed the 19-year-old singer/actress was accompanied by a substantial support team on her trip to the emergency room. Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are headed back to the balcony that saw the kiss seen ’round the world. Soon, the royals are set to return to that location in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee anniversary marking her 60-year reign, on June 5. Somehow we doubt William and Kate will upstage his grandmother with another kiss, but the royal wedding was a day many in the UK will remember. Taking the moment up a notch, after the much-anticipated public display of affection, a Royal Air Force flyover took to the skies to seal the spectacle. The Queen at least deserves that.
‘My life is an open book,’ rapper says about tonight’s VH1 special. The Compton, California, rapper has been candid about his gang affiliations, his tumultuous family life and his beef with rival rappers like 50 Cent. Tonight (March 22) at 9 p.m. ET, Game will once again open up on a new episode of VH1’s critically acclaimed show “Behind the Music.” “I think it’s real big, and I’m so appreciative for VH1 just reaching out to us and sort of just championing my career and appreciating me,” Game told MTV News this morning. Game is a big fan of the show, which has famously profiled musicians like Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige and Game’s mentor Dr. Dre. “I’ve seen a lot of episodes that were about figures that I thought to be bigger than life. I didn’t think I was halfway there, just 30, and still trying to find my way through hip-hop,” he said. When the show airs, the “Hate It or Love It” rapper will watch on television like so many of his fans. “I haven’t seen any edits or anything. I’m just gonna sit on the couch and watch it with the fam,” he said. “They are so thorough in their interviews and the people they talk to. They went back from the early stages of my life, even earlier from before I was born. They talked to my mom, my parents, my grandmother, so I think there are a lot of things that will be uncovered [that] people will appreciate knowing.” Nas will also be a subject of a “Behind the Music” episode this season, and when thinking about himself in relation to the Queensbridge MC, Game imagines that he is much more open than his friend and frequent collaborator. “I didn’t hold back none. Jessica Simpson says her daughter made her presence known early on. “We were just about to [go] all-day drinking,” the singer and Fashion Star mentor recalls to Elle , which features Jessica Simpson nude on the cover of its new issue. “We were off to ride our bikes, hang out. But I felt this overwhelming guilt. Why would I feel guilt at the idea of going out and having cocktails with friends?” With an inkling that something was a little off, the 31-year-old Simpson took a home pregnancy test – and discovered she was expecting with fiance Eric Johnson. Instantly, her life changed. “I’m a free-spirited girl, but giving up my scotch? My Macallan 18? That was hard for me!” she says.
Looks like Amber Portwood has screwed up again. Possibly big time. The troubled Teen Mom train wreck failed to take a required drug test, and as a result, could face the five-year prison sentence she just narrowly dodged . Portwood’s December drug arrest had her staring down a lengthy stint in the big house, but a judge promised to dismiss the entire case … with a big “if.” IF she completes a drug program … a stipulation that includes daily drug testing. Which she apparently couldn’t even give a sample for. Terrific work! Amber had been doing fairly well since being released from jail and moving in with her grandmother, but on Monday, she torpedoed all her short-lived progress. By failing to provide a urine sample during a routine drug test while she serves time on home detention, she may be in for it at her court check-up today. Amber allegedly failed to provide a sample because she simply couldn’t go at the time, but so it goes. No sample = failed test. No exceptions or excuses. She’ll have to answer for the failed test one way or another before a judge today, and we’ll have to see if the judge feels it warrants a probation violation. I want to make some silly comment about how Whitney Port kinda looks like she’s wearing her grandmother’s fancy old lady lingerie while she’s out on the town last night, but those long legs of hers are distracting me, so I don’t really care. Those things would look awesome wrapped around my head. I don’t necessarily mean that in a sexual way either perverts, she can slip into a bikini and climb on my shoulders in a swimming pool and they’d still look awesome.
