‘Hunger Games’ Brought Elizabeth Banks To Tears

‘It’s the greatest movie of all time,’ actress declares to MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elizabeth Banks at the “Hunger Games” premiere Photo: Getty Images As an enormous fan of “The Hunger Games,” Elizabeth Banks got to live out any book lover’s dream by starring in the film adaptation. The end result, in Banks’ objective opinion, was nothing short of the best movie ever. “Totally unbiased, as if I was just off the street: It’s the greatest movie of all time,” she declared. “It’s really good.” Banks spoke with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz about her emotional experience making the film and the real-life inspiration for her portrayal of Effie Trinket. Spoilers ahead. After seeing the completed film, one of the scenes that stuck out for Banks was Rue’s funeral, shortly after she’s killed in the Games. “I always knew that Rue’s funeral would be amazing. I mean, it’s one of my favorite parts of the book,” Banks said. “I think everybody loves the relationship between Katniss and Rue, and her funeral is exactly how I imagined it, just really beautiful. That she sings to her is amazing, and it’s so emotional. It’s a five-hanky moment. There’s some serious bawling happening by dudes in the theater.” Being a part of the actual filming of the story didn’t make watching the final product any less emotional for Banks. Even she couldn’t help but shed a few tears. “When watching it, I totally cried. I cried making the movie, seriously,” Banks said. “When we were shooting the Reaping, and the very first time Jennifer [Lawrence] came out and said, ‘I volunteer. I volunteer.’ I think it was rehearsal; we weren’t even shooting yet. I was like, ‘That’s the most amazing thing.’ ” As with all adaptations of books, not everything can be as the reader imagines. But Banks said that made “The Hunger Games” even better. “There were a couple things that weren’t how I pictured it, but I’m not even sure that I pictured Effie’s hair the way Effie’s hair ultimately ended up being, but I love everything,” she said. “It was better than what I thought. That’s what I loved about it. There were a lot of things that were a lot cooler than I thought they’d be.” To bring Effie to life, Banks worked closely with crew to create a truly unique villainess. As it turns out, the secrets to Effie’s origins lie in Hollywood history. “I had amazing collaborators, first of all, Gary Ross. Gary said, in his mind’s eye, he always imagined Effie’s face was like Joel Grey in ‘Cabaret.’ If you remember, he had really white skin, cracked and messed up, just kind of grotesque,” Banks explained. “Because Effie’s a villain, we really wanted her to be a little villainous in that way, so that was our jumping-off point.” Similarly, Banks owed the inspiration for Effie’s theatrical voice to one of the screen’s most iconic leading ladies. “[The voice] was very much inspired by Rosalind Russell ‘s ‘Auntie Mame.’ I really felt like Effie is everyone’s ‘Auntie Mame,’ just an outrageous person who says all of the wrong things and has all these crazy friends and lives a very extravagant lifestyle that’s beyond her,” Banks said. “She’s one of my favorite performers, and it’s one of my favorite performances. She just has that great New York Broadway accent in the film, so that was my jumping-off point for Effie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Rep Shoots Down Bobbi Kristina Brown Engagement Rumors

Bobbi Kristina Brown is not engaged to Nick Gordon , the 22-year old taken in by Whitney Houston many years ago and raised as one of her own. At least not according to Brown’s rep. Talk of an engagement heated up last week after Bobbi was seen out and about with a massive diamond ring on her finger, but this source tells E! News there’s nothing more to that development than an apparent tribute to her late parent. She’s “simply wearing her mother’s ring,” the Bobbi Kristina insider says . Bobbi, meanwhile, hasn’t talked publicly since sitting down last week with Oprah Winfrey , but she has been communicating via Twitter, retweeting a number of supportive messages, such as: “@REALbkBrown don’t justify to these people. Looks like Whitney was mother and trusted you to protect her greatest treasure BKBro.”

Hollie Cavanagh on American Idol: The Female Favorite?

Hollie Cavanagh was born in England, but lives in Texas. Hence her unusual accent. This American Idol semifinalist also looks her age, something that can’t always be said for 18-year olds on the show. So it’s safe to say we didn’t expect to hear the major pipes that emanated from Cavanagh last night, as she simply stood at the microphone for a cover of Christina Aguilera’s “Reflections,” and sounded very much like that incredible star herself. Jennifer Lopez told Hollie she thinks she can win the whole thing and we agree. We’d make her the very early favorite, along with Phillip Phillips on the men’s side. Do you agree? Watch and listen now: Hollie Cavanagh – “Reflections”

Chelsea Sorrell on American Idol: An Underwhelming Underwood

Let’s give Chelsea Sorrell a couple props: It’s not easy to go first on any American Idol audition show, especially with your very first live performance. It takes courage to cover possibly the greatest contestant in series history, Carrie Underwood. But the gamble didn’t really pay off for Sorrell last night, as Randy Jackson noted the questionable song choice and J. Lo – who later admitted she was too nice to the guys the evening before – referred to the rendition as “nasally.” Ouch. Watch the cover of “Cowboy Casanova” now and compare it to our favorite from the night, Hollie Cavanagh . Chelsea Sorrell – “Cowboy Casanova”

JWoWW’s Big Breasts Get To Work

With the new Jersey Shore spin-off just around the corner, just what the world needs right now, JWoWW and her little troll friend have been hard at work filming over the last little while. I use the term ‘hard at work’ very loosely. I don’t give a crap about Snooki, or the show quite frankly, but I do enjoy looking at JWoWW’s big fake breasts whenever I get the chance so here they are. Not exactly the greatest shots of the girls, but I’ll take what I can get. Enjoy.

Andre 3000 Talks Solo Album & OutKast

View post:

OutKast is the greatest hip hop group to come out of Atlanta and they’re arguably the greatest hip hop group of all time. In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Andre 3000 talked about his upcoming solo album, as well as when fans can expect another OutKast album. Andre 3000: There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album. There’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, “Hey, Andre, we want you on this song.” So I’ve been taking those calls and for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. So these new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year. As far as OutKast, I really don’t know if or when that will happen. GQ: What’s the new solo album going to be like? Andre 3000: The only thing I can really say is I’m going to get back to having fun because that’s what it was all about when I started this in high school—with OutKast—those were like high school dreams. I’m 36 now, so I have grown-man dreams. This album will just be me being myself as normal. Source: GQ Magazine

D.A.: Conrad Murray a Danger to Society

The L.A. County D.A. is far from pleased that Dr. Conrad Murray wants judge to spring him from jail while he appeals his conviction for involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors assert that Murray, who was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for his role in in the death of Michael Jackson, is a danger to society. According to court documents, the D.A.’s office says Murray’s shown zero remorse for “reckless and criminal conduct that directly caused Michael Jackson’s death.” In other words, the D.A. says Murray just doesn’t get it, a key point of their argument, as they say he could engage in the same conduct again if he’s set free. The D.A. also claims Murray is a flight risk who is terrified of jail and who no longer has strong ties to California now that his medical license has been revoked. As for Murray’s grounds for appealing the conviction, the D.A. claims they bogus – the judge’s decision to exclude Dr. Arnold Klein’s testimony in particular. Klein gave MJ Demerol shots in the months preceding his death, but the D.A. says no traces of the drug were found in MJ’s body at the time of his death. Thus, there’s no evidence to suggest Murray’s conviction was unfounded, at least in the eyes of the people who put him away … and probably everyone else.

Small Dog Runs Around, Baby Laughs Hysterically

If you ever need to run errands, just plop your youngster down on the floor with a Sheltie (or mutt-like equivalent) for hours of free babysitting – and fun! NOTE: We’re not actually suggesting that, but still, check this out: Dog Runs Around, Baby Laughs
