On September 9, 2015, James Blake was taken down to the ground, handcuffed and arrested by a plainclothes New York City Police Department officer in front of the Grand Hyatt New York after being mistaken for a suspect of interest. The officers were relying on a witness and photo of a suspect that looked strikingly similar to Blake: they mistook him for a credit-card fraud suspect staying in the same hotel. Commissioner Bill Bratton apologized for the mistake and stated the “arrest raised seri

Minnesosta.CBS Local reports: Neighbors say racial tensions likely fueled an attack on a teenager who hit a boy with his truck. The 18-year-old hit 4-year-old Damajae Winn Monday night at an apartment complex in Winona. Police say when he got out to check on the boy, as many as ten people beat him up. Thirteen-year-old Brook Schrumpf was in the truck with her 18-year-old boyfriend when he struck 4-year-old Damajae on Monday. “We didn’t see him until after the fact,” Schrumpf said. “We didn’t see him until he was lying on the ground. Several neighbors witnessed what happened. “His mom was holding him, he was bleeding pretty bad,” Tamara Witherspoon said. A Confederate flag that used to stick out the back of the driver’s truck may be what caused tension in the neighborhood. Schrumpf said a few months ago the Confederate flag was stolen and burned. Uhhhhh…why is the 18-year-old’s girlfriend 13???? What do YOU think about this beating??? Fair or foul???
If they were black… A New York man says Suffolk County police in Long Island tackled him to the ground and attempted to delete footage of police brutality he had recorded but mistakenly removed the wrong file. Square-banner, 20-year-old Thomas Demint claims police have continued to harass and threaten him after the incident, prompting him to go public with the footage for fear of his own safety. Demint was on his way to work on May 21, 2014 when he spied his friends family being arrested by Suffolk County police in Center Moriches after officers responded to a 911 call reporting that an adult male was attempting suicide. When police arrived, officials say, officers attempted to administer aid to the suicidal man and his family intervened. In one of the most egregious parts of video, an officer is seen slinging a woman to the ground rendering her unconscious. “My mom’s knocked out,” one of the woman’s sons can be heard screaming. An officer also tased her, and in another part of the video, an officer can be seen punching her other son in the face. Demints attorney, Ken Mollins, says that as Demint was trying to leave the scene with the footage, three officers tackled him to the ground and charged him with obstruction. “My client was not aggressive, my client was standing there videotaping,” Mollins said. “This is clearly evidence of police brutality.” Suffolk County police said in a statement that Demint “interfered with officers by shouting obscenities toward police officers and paramedics as well as entering the scene several times after he was told not to.” “Mr. Demint’s actions diverted officers’ attention away from the suicidal man and Mr. Demint had to be physically escorted away from the scene,” the statement adds. “Mr. Demint was placed under arrest for Obstructing Governmental Administration and Resisting Arrest.” Since he recorded the footage Demint says he has been pulled over multiple times by officers that have made threatening statements like, “you’ll see me again, you can count on that.” Demint also says his phone was confiscated and kept it for weeks. “I was genuinely shocked,” Demint said. “I don’t regret taking the video but it did bring me alot of complications.” http://www.copblock.org/
Officer Assaults 11-Year-Old Girl Video has surfaced of a February incident in which an 11-year-old innocent bystander was roughly slammed to the pavement by an NYPD officer. The civil rights lawyer handling the case explains at length what transpired before this officer forcefully manhandled this 6th grader to the ground. Via HuffPost : Take a look at this video, in which a white male New York City police lieutenant grabbed a 6th grade elementary school student of color — big for her age but only 11 years old — around the neck and threw her to the pavement on a Bronx street corner, six months after Eric Garner was wrestled down on a Staten Island pavement. (The video is grainy because it was copied from a surveillance camera onto a phone before the family came to me seeking legal representation; the original surveillance videotape was automatically taped over). Here’s the background. This past February, after school was out for the day, some boys from the school were throwing snowballs at a passing car. When the driver got out to yell at them — and put one of the boys in a headlock — his smartphone fell out of his pocket and another boy picked it up. Upon realizing his phone was gone, the driver chased down one of the boys and threatened to call the police if the phone was not returned, and when it was not forthcoming, he did, apparently using someone else’s phone. This 6th grader — let’s call her Angie — and a classmate were walking from school to the bus stop when they saw some of this. They were bystanders who had nothing to do with either the snowballs or the phone. But as the police arrived, the girls exchanged words as to whether they should stay to watch, or go, and then took off running for a block before stopping. The driver — the man in the white jacket with the knapsack in the video — seeing Angie running, suspected — wrongly — that she was part of the group and had his phone. He approached Angie and asked for his phone. She told him she didn’t have his phone. Shortly thereafter, as the video starts, this police lieutenant crossed the street, motioning for Angie to come toward him, which she did. But instead of engaging her verbally and asking her anything, like her name, or about the phone, he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her roughly toward him. Shocked, and scared, we can see her trying to protest, but he does not let go; instead, he escalates the situation, pushing her toward the camera, frightening her even more, and then grabs her around the neck and throws her to the ground, where he rolls her over and rear cuffs her. It was totally unnecessary and gratuitous police violence, borne out of the same disrespect which animated the violence visited upon Mr. Garner. If Angie were white on the Upper East Side rather than Hispanic in the Bronx, would it have happened? Hopefully the family gets everythung they are asking for and more. This young girl is probably traumatized by what happened to her. SMH. YouTube

Eric Casebolt Resigns From Police Force The shady McKinney, TX cop who brutally slammed and restrained an African American teenage girl in a bathing suit at a local pool party has resigned from his post. Eric Casebolt has officially ended his 10-year career with the McKinney PD, as the commissioner publicly denounced his actions as inappropriate and indefensible . Via CNN : Just days after a video that went viral online showed him yanking a 14-year-old bikini-clad girl to the ground and kneeling on her back, Eric Casebolt has resigned from his post as a corporal for the Police Department in McKinney, Texas. The video posted to YouTube showing the police response to reports of fighting at a pool party sparked swift allegations of racism. Critics decried the white officer for cursing at several black teenagers, slamming the girl to the ground and unholstering his gun. Protesters marched on Monday over the incident in the Dallas suburb. Outraged parents demanded the officer’s firing. At a press conference Tuesday announcing Casebolt’s resignation, the city’s police chief called his actions in the video indefensible. “Our policies, our training, our practice, do not support his actions,” Police Chief Greg Conley said. “He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows, was out of control during the incident.” Even though the offending officer is out of the picture, the Police Department insists their investigation is ongoing. “We’re continuing an investigation. We are continuing looking into all the allegations that are being presented to us, and any part of a criminal investigation regarding anyone will take a matter of time for us to work through all those allegations and those people who have come forward to us to complain,” he said. This is all well and good…but what would have happened if NO cameras were rolling? HuffPost
