The Guinness Book of World Records isn’t just for nausea-inducing photos of 50-inch fingernails and fat twins on motorcycles anymore. The sprawling oracle of milestones far and wide has gone practical this week, revealing the screen actor whose body of work has accrued the highest collective gross in history. It’s not the most obvious fellow, but considering his ubiquity, franchise successes and long trail of cultural landmarks, it makes sense. To date, they’ve played shows on six continents, and now, all that touring will earn them a place in the “Guinness Book of World Records.” On December 7, 30STM will perform their 300th — and final — show in support of War, at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. And when that gig is completed, they’ll officially set the record for Most Shows Performed During a Single Album Cycle. That’s according to a press release issued Monday (October 17) by the band’s spokesperson, which touts the show as “a special Tribus Centum Numerarae concert” and promises that “the band is also planning a special week of unique shows celebrating this milestone, beginning on December 5.” “We have been on the road for an incredible and insane two years and thought what better way to celebrate the end of this phenomenal journey than with a week of special shows in New York City,” 30STM frontman Jared Leto said in a statement. “We thought documenting this for posterity with the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ would be fun especially as we aren’t any good at growing our fingernails very long or cultivating the world’s largest squash.” Don’t downplay a giant squash, dude. The upcoming 2012 edition of the book reveals that the “Rolling in the Deep” singer is in good company, as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Willow Smith and Justin Bieber also set some high-water marks over the past 12 months. Adele can count three records, including first female to land two singles and two albums in the U.K. top five simultaneously — which only the Beatles had achieved before in 1963. Her breakthrough second CD, 21, claimed the record as the first album in U.K. chart history to sell 3 million copies in one calendar year. She also logged the most consecutive weeks with the #1 album in the U.K. for a solo female with 11 weeks at the top — beating a record previously held by Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection — and most cumulative weeks with a U.K. #1 for a solo female (18), beating out both Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain, who shared the previous record at 11 weeks. Lady Gaga’s social media predominance was rewarded, landing her the Most Followers on Twitter crown with 11,259,372 as of June 29 (she’s currently at 13,469,754). In addition, “Poker Face” was honored for Most Weeks on U.S. Digital Hot Songs chart at 83 weeks. Gaga made the book last year for having the most consecutive weeks on the U.K. chart and being the most searched-for woman on the Internet. Rowling : The “Harry Potter” author is lauded for being the First Billionaire Author thanks to sales of more than 400 million copies of the books worldwide. “Glee” : The hit show scored the Most Hit Singles in a Calendar Year with 48 making it into the U.K. top 75 in 2011, breaking their previous hit of 45 hits in 2010. Rihanna : First Female to have U.K. #1 singles in five consecutive years (2007-2011), from “Rude Boy” to her most recent, “Only Girl (In the World).” Only Elvis and the Beatles have had more U.K. #1 singles in consecutive years. Do you want to see the ladies at Spelman go after a Guinness World Record? It’s Founders Day at Spelman, and it’s going to be a pretty interesting day. Spelman is one of the most prestigious historically black colleges in the country and today it’s celebrating its 130 year Anniversary and its legacy of academic excellence and service. . Today’s festivities begin with the traditional Founders Day Convocation which includes a performance by singer and Tony Award winning actress, Jennifer Holliday. Other notable participants include: Kenny Leon, director of the True Colors Theatre Company; Lamman Rucker, actor, Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns”; and Dawn Lewis, actress, star of “A Different World”. This program will be streamed live at www.spelman.edu . At noon, the celebration continues with an exciting attempt to break into the Guinness Book World Record for having the most people dancing with hula hoops at one time. Students, faculty and staff will pick up the giant circles on the Spelman Oval and go for it. This event is in support of First Lady, Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” Campaign. Later at 7:30 this evening, Spelman College President, Beverly Daniel Tatum will have an open conversation with legendary singer and songwriter, Stevie Wonder. The 76-year-old host of “Larry King Live” has announced his decision to step aside from his longstanding CNN TV series, the network reports . He’ll hang up his suspenders and close shop on the 25-year-old-show later this year. King announced the decision to end “Larry King Live” earlier Tuesday (June 29) on his blog . “I want to share some personal news with you,” he wrote. “Twenty-five years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of ‘Larry King Live.’ Now, decades later, I talked to the guys here at CNN and I told them I would like to end ‘Larry King Live,’ the nightly show, this fall and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games. “I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects,” he added. Jon Klein, president of CNN/US, said of King’s departure: “He will end his run with ‘Larry King Live’ on his own terms, sometime this fall.
