Ever since Madonna has been taking potshots at Lady Gaga and Elton John. Most recently, Madonna was overheard talking smack about Janet Jackson. During an interview to promote her new movie and Super Bowl XLVI halftime show, Madonna threw a subliminal jab at Ms. Jackson for her controversial nip slip during her halftime performance at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. When asked if she was planning any “naughty” surprises with her show, Madge said, “I have not mainstreamed and I’m not planning anything naughty. I’m planning something super entertaining.” She then added, “Yep, yep! You don’t have to show nipples to be interesting and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re cutting edge if you do right?” Subliminal disses aside, Madonna’s upcoming halftime show is shaping up to be a huge show with queen Nicki Minaj just confirming that she will join Madonna onstage for the Feb. 5 event in Indianapolis. Congrats to Nicki Minaj she has set a new record on Vevo with her brand new video “Stupid Hoe” getting 4.8 million views in 24 hours. Nicki also revealed yesterday via Twitter that she will be starring in a new film project. When asked about her plans for the day, she told her followers she’s “Shooting a mini movie.” Minaj was hush-hush on what kind of movie she was filming only adding that it was for the initials “RH.” Hopefully this won’t be some kind of Lady Gaga -like lengthy music video. After being coy with her fans, Minaj wished them a good day. “So blessings & love to all of u!!! Excel today. Excel, ” she tweeted. Minaj did promise plenty of surprises before her April 3 release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, so whatever “RH” is might be part of the surprises. Two weeks after an irate Detroit Lions fan launched an online petition asking the team to remove Nickelback as the halftime performers for their annual Thanksgiving game, there is finally confirmation from the United Way — sponsors of said halftime show — that the Canadian quartet will be performing at the game. “Nickelback will take the stage for the 2011 United Way Thanksgiving Halftime Show during the first game of the NFL’s tripleheader when the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, November 24, at 12:30 pm ET,” the United Way said in a press release. “The game and halftime show will be broadcast live on Fox.” It marks the first actual confirmation that Nickelback will be performing at the game. On November 1, The Oakland Press reported that the band had been booked — a story that led to the creation of that online petition claiming there are better choices for the gig — but neither the NFL nor the Detroit Lions commented on the matter (a spokesperson for the league did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment last week, and a rep for the Lions had no comment when reached). There is no mention of the online outrage in the United Way press release — though they do announce that “American Idol” season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina will be singing the National Anthem before the Lions/Packers tilt — but there is a quote from Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, who thanked his fans in Detroit for their continued support of the band (petitions notwithstanding). “We are honored to perform at the United Way halftime show on Thanksgiving Day,” Kroeger said. “We always love playing in Detroit, our fans there have been tremendously supportive of us through the years and we can’t wait to come back and celebrate an exciting day for the Lions and the city of Detroit.” Related Artists Nickelback

If you were looking for energy and many bright lights, The Black Eyed Peas Super Bowl halftime performance went perfectly on Sunday. But if you tuned in hoping to hear perfect sound mixing and smooth vocals, you were one of the many critics disappointed in the results. Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show In a new interview with Pop Eater, group member Taboo acknowledges a few “technical problems,” but defends the performance overall, explaining: The thing about it is there were 100 million viewers. If you get 60 million people who didn’t like it and you get 40 million that did like the show, that’s a pretty cool thing because you can’t please everybody. Everybody who is a critic is going to criticize and annihilate everything you do even if it’s a good thing. They just want to bring it down. As many people who are blogging about how disappointed they were, there’s a lot of people in the streets who really loved the show. What did you think of the performance?
Poor Christina Aguilera. The singer choked on the biggest stage of her career Sunday night, stepping to midfield prior to Super Bowl XLV and flubbing a lyric to the national anthem. Aguilera left out the words “O’er the ramparts we watched” and instead inserted “What so proudly we watched” in their place.
