Jon Gosselin’s association with Ed Hardy shirts personally torpedoed the entire once-popular brand, says none other than Ed Hardy himself. Call it the Midas touch, only the exact opposite. Shortly after splitting from Kate Gosselin in 2009, Jon became friends with Christian Audigier, who licensed Hardy’s art for shirts and other products. Audigier even entertained Jon and then-girlfriend Hailey Glassman in St. Tropez on his yacht … and that’s when it all started to go downhill for Hardy. Jon Gosselin was repeatedly spotted wearing Ed Hardy clothes, and that association was beyond toxic for the brand, Hardy told the New York Post . “That Jon Gosselin thing was the nail in the coffin,” Hardy said . “That’s what tanked it. Macy’s used to have a huge window display with Ed Hardy, and it filtered down and that’s why Macy’s dropped the brand.” Jon, a fan of the Ed Hardy brand who loved the stuff long before he was famous (or infamous), was even in talks for his own fashion line with Audigier. There was even talk of Jon or Hailey scoring their own fashion line! Jon’s repulsive powers were formidable, but Hardy, 68, puts equal if not more of the blame on Audigier, a “celebrity-obsessed” French businessman. “Christian worships celebrities so much, he will get next to anyone … if he could’ve gotten Charles Manson in a shirt, he would have,” Hardy said. The whole Jon-killed-my-entire-brand allegation is one of many interesting highlights of Ed Hardy’s new memoir, Wear your Dreams: My Life in Tattoos .

Who better to produce an Elton John biopic than…Elton John? John’s company Rocket Pictures is currently working on a movie about the artist’s life called Rocketman . But here’s the best part: Tom Hardy is the frontrunner to star. Who doesn’t want to hear Hardy with a Bane breather on, mumbling his way through Pinball Wizard ? FilmDistrict definitely does. The distribution company is near a $10 million dollar deal for the U.S. rights to Rocketman . The film will reportedly start with a young age-five Elton as a musical prodigy. According to producers, it will be a unique biopic that is heavily visual and non-linear. Lee Hall will provide the script, with Michael Gracey directing. N.Y. Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has been sidelined by sore ribs and mired on the bench, but the class act reached out Monday to a teen hurting far worse. Responding to a viral Twitter campaign, Tebow called Matt Hardy , a Shenendehowa (N.Y.) H.S. student hospitalized with injuries suffered in a two-car crash. Two fellow students, Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers, were killed; the driver of the other vehicle failed alcohol tests at the scene, according to reports. Around 7 p.m., the hashtag #TebowCallMatt trended nationally on Twitter. By then, more than 50,000 users had re-tweeted the hashtag. By 9 p.m., Tim called. Tebow phoned Hardy after 9 p.m. Afterward, Hardy’s brother, Michael, tweeted: “TIM TEBOW JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MATT! SUCH A CLASS ACT!!” Seriously. The most amazing part is that from Tim, one of the true good guys in sports (whatever you think of his skill level), people almost expect this kind of thing. A short time later, Tebow himself tweeted: “Thanks to everyone who got #TebowCallMatt trending & helped connect us. Matt truly inspired me. God bless y’all.” Hardy, 17, plays football, baseball and basketball at Shenendehowa. He was upgraded to stable condition in Albany Medical Center on Monday night. He suffered a concussion and broken bones, according to area news reports. Another 16,000 re-tweeted #MissyCallBailey – a reference to Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin and Bailey Wind, another teen from nearby Shaker H.S. who survived the crash. Around midnight, Franklin tweeted that she’d left a phone message for Wind.

Early estimates suggest it took $43.1 million between Friday and Sunday, James Bond film Skyfall was second with $36 million, followed by Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln with $25m (£15.6m). Domestic revenues for the year currently stand at $9.75 billion, with a strong December line-up still to come. The current annual domestic record is $10.6 billion, set in 2009, BBC reports . Liz & Dick Pulls In 3.5 Million Viewers The made for Lifetime TV movie about Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton was the fourth biggest viewed origin movie premiere on ad-supported cable this year. It drew 3 million less viewers than Steel Magnolias which played the network in October, Deadline reports . Life of Pi to Open Dubai International Film Festival The festival running December 9 – 16 will also include Hitchcock , Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away and Cannes Palme d’Or winner Amour . The Sapphires will close out the event. Other highlights include Karzan by Kadar Bekas and Wadjda directed by Haiffa Al Mansour, Saudi’s first-ever female moviemaker to shoot a film on her own in the conservative country THR reports . Fox Searchlight Eyes Susan Boyle Biopic The company has picked up the life rights to Boyle’s story along with rights to the musical I Dreamed a Dream . The idea will be to merge the two to develop a re-imagined film version of the musical. A director and screenwriter are still pending, Deadline reports . Cannes to Fete India in 2013 It’s hard to believe Cannes news is beginning, but event organizers said it will commemorate the 100th anniversary of India’s film industry by making it the festival’s “Guest Country” for 2013. The home of Bollywood will be the third country to be honored by festival organizers following Egypt in 2011 and Brazil last year. The 66th annual Cannes film festival runs from May 15 to 26, The Guardian reports .
