‘Predators’ Star Adrien Brody Talks 3-D And Arnold Schwarzenegger

Actor thinks 3-D would be a ‘pretty great idea’ for the film but hasn’t heard of any plans. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Adrien Brody Photo: MTV News We’re not entirely certain, but has there been a commandment laid down in Hollywood that declares, “Thou shalt not make a blockbuster in only two measly dimensions?” It’s hard to tell these days, as the likes of “The Last Airbender,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and “The Green Hornet” race furiously to convert their 2-D flicks into 3-D releases. It’s enough to make you think that no film is safe. Thus, we have to wonder about every single high-profile release in this summer-movie season. Case in point: “Predators,” the Adrien Brody-led reboot of the classic sci-fi/horror franchise. Might we see those vicious aliens wreaking bloody havoc in three dimensions? Don’t count on it, Brody told us, even though he thinks the idea would be pretty cool. “No one’s talked to me about that,” he said. “I think it’d be a really pretty great idea. I don’t know. I’m not in the loop.” Whether “Predators” gets the 3-D conversion — and with its July 9 release date rapidly approaching, we’re fairly certain another dimension won’t be slapped on — Brody is looking forward to checking out one scene in particular. “The finale is probably the most dramatic aspect of most movies, but I think that as it builds, the stakes build, and eventually you get to that iconic face-off,” he said. “So that’s pretty great. I can’t wait for that.” Brody hasn’t yet seen the finished cut. Who knows? He might not catch a screening until the premiere itself. Will original franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger be walking the red carpet as well to welcome in this newest version of the series? “I would imagine,” Brody said. “I hope he has time in his busy schedule.” Brody’s pretty busy himself. His sci-fi flick “Splice” arrives in June, and he recently signed on to Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris.” But he seems excited about the prospect of filming a sequel to “Predators,” if the opportunity should arise. He’s less excited about once again packing on the muscles to play the part of the ex-military man trying to survive on a strange planet packed with vicious aliens. “Six-packs are not the difficult part about it,” he laughed. “There was another 20 pounds on me which I’d have to put back.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Predators.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Dividing Point Isn’t Set

Tom Felton says filmmakers are still undecided where to split the book into to films. By Eric Ditzian Tom Felton Photo: Mike Marsland/ WireImage At some point in the cinematic adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the filmmakers are going to take an eight-month break: the time between the November 2010 opening of the first part and the July 2011 release of the second. The big question, of course, is where exactly the break will be. Last summer, we got word that part one of “Deathly Hallows” would end directly after Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are captured by the Snatchers. Part two would then open as Harry, his friends and their captors arrive at Malfoy Manor. But it seems like nothing, at this point, is definite when it comes the much-hyped “Deathly Hallows” split. “The scripts were set for it,” co-star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) told MTV News. “There was one and two. There had to be a middle point. But they’ve said throughout it could change.” The decision to keep the split point fluid was made both as a practical and creative matter: With the story is shot as one long film, the filmmakers are free to change their minds about where the split makes sense in post-production. “It’s tricky to shoot as two separate films, so we’ve been trying to think of it as one and just shoot as much as possible and once they’ve edited it down, it will feel like there’s a natural cut somewhere in the middle,” Felton explained. Regardless of what might happen in the edit room, was the split, as planned in the scripts, supposed to be Harry and his friends’ kidnapping? “I wouldn’t want to speculate, because I’ll probably get it wrong anyway,” Felton said. ‘Harry Potter’ Star Tom Felton Explains How Actors Will Age In ‘Deathly Hallows’

‘I’ve been having some aging training,’ Felton says of film’s epilogue. By Eric Ditzian Tom Felton Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage We’ve been openly speculating about it for far too long: How will the minds behind “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” shoot the story’s epilogue, which picks up almost two decades in the future? Would director David Yates and his team hire older actors to stand in for Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast or would he employ special effects to age the familiar “Potter” faces? Now we know for sure. Speaking with MTV News, co-star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) revealed that he and the rest of the cast will play older versions of their characters. What’s more — achieving those looks will require a mix of prosthetics and CGI technology. “For nearly two months, we’ve all been doing prosthetic tests and all sorts of preparation for the epilogue,” Felton said. “I’ve been having some aging training. You’ve got to walk differently. There’s a slump in your walk.” Those tests must have been successful because a schedule to shoot the scene has already been set. “It’s going to be the last big thing that we do. It’s going to be on location,” he explained, going on to say that it should take three days of filming to complete. Until then, he’s been busy practicing how to play a character on the verge of turning 40. So how exactly does one train to be old? “It’s bizarre,” Felton laughed. “We have a lovely guy who comes in. It was a little weird the first time — imagine you’ve got weights on your arms! There have been a number of times where I nearly laughed and I had to hold it in.” Felton should finally wrap up his decade-long commitment to the franchise in June, about six months before the November release date of the first part of “Deathly Hallows.” And while a bit of sadness has crept into the proceedings at the thought of leaving the series behind, he’s eagerly anticipating the chance to film the epilogue at long last and thankful that he — and not an older actor — will be in front of the camera when it all goes down. “We’re probably at the most exciting bit,” he said. “Certainly the part I’ve been most looking forward to. It’s going to be very exciting.” Did the “Deathly Hallows” director make the right call? Tell us in the comments! Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. Celebrity Apprentice ‘s stars were asked to horrify children last night, and everyone pulled through with flying colors. As part of their challenge to make a 3D display advertising Universal Orlando’s “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” attraction, the celebs built and acted as characters inside muggle-friendly haunted castles. Some of the contestants (Michael Johnson, our girl Summer Sanders ) kept the freakishness to a minimum, while others (just wait) gave unsuspecting children the kind of chills best defined as “Voldemort kisses.”

We Take You Inside The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

‘Time stands still when you’re in there,’ creative director Thierry Coup says of the attraction. By Terri Schwartz The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Photo: 2010 Universal Orlando Resort The attraction at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that Universal Orlando is most excited about is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a ride they revealed to press and “Harry Potter” fan site webmasters on Wednesday. MTV got a chance to be one of the first inside Hogwarts castle, which is much more than just a pretty and accurate exterior. Wizarding World creative director Thierry Coup said that just waiting in line for the ride portion of Forbidden Journey was worth the time, and Wednesday’s visit explained why. Many of the iconic rooms and areas of Hogwarts castle that have been described in the “Harry Potter” books and seen in the movies have been re-created inside Universal’s version of Hogwarts castle. Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Theme Park “It’s the most immersive queue ever created,” said Alan Gilmore, production consultant for the park and art director for some of the films. “Every moment here is a wonderful moment, really. You just take it all in.” The experience starts at the entrance to Hogwarts, where statues of winged boars like the ones from the film version of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” can be seen. A sign below says, “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” but Gilmore revealed that when the park is opened on June 18, there will be a “magical” effect that will make it seem as though the words “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” will appear etched by wand over the sign. Guests will enter through the dungeon level of the park, where they will walk through in either the express, singles or regular line. The express line will miss out on the majority of the tour of Hogwarts. The dungeon area is designed with no “walls,” to look as though it has been carved out of the mountain. Attendees will walk by the One-Eyed Witch statue and the Mirror of Erised, which Harry Potter sees in “The Sorcerer’s Stone.” After passing through the dungeon area, visitors will go outside to the Hogwarts greenhouse, where Professor Sprout’s class studies Herbology. Coup and Gilmore said there is still horticulture to be planted before the park opens — but there were “sleeping” mandrake roots in a cage near the entrance back into the castle and there will be a giant vine, like in the films, creeping around the greenhouse. The entrance back into the castle is what Coup called the “Oxford Corridor,” and was basically a re-creation of the many corridors Harry and his friends walk through in the films. There is a statue of the architect of Hogwarts, who is standing with a lion, badger, snake and eagle to represent the four houses. At the end of the corridor is the griffin statue which, in the books and film, provides a magical staircase to Dumbledore’s office. Past the statue are moving paintings, which Universal used special technology to re-create. The first is of Professor Swoopstikes, who is talking about insects to the guests. The next one is of people watching Quidditch, and if visitors watch long enough, Swoopstikes will enter the Quidditch painting. The next room is the portrait room with about 100 paintings, both moving and not, of the founders and major people involved in Hogwarts. The paintings talk to themselves and to the guests, mostly questioning why Muggles are in Hogwarts, with a script designed to avoid repetition. Finally guests will arrive in Dumbledore’s Office, which is their intended destination in the castle according to Forbidden Journey’s story line. Express guests will have skipped all the previous rooms and end up in the office after walking from the dungeons through a different portrait gallery. Gilmore said this room was a more faithful reproduction of the office than in the films — it was something he and the films’ production designer, Stuart Craig, always wanted to do. It looks identical to the room in the films, with all the same paraphernalia and knickknacks lying around. A 3-D projection of Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore greets the guests for their planned lecture from the ghost Professor Bins on the history of Hogwarts — after all, “today” (or every day in the Wizarding World) is the “first” day Muggles are being allowed to tour Hogwarts. Guests then walk into the Defense Against Dark Arts classroom, with a skeleton of a dragon hanging from the ceiling while a chalkboard with a Dementors and “Expecto Patronum” lesson sits at the front of the room. Harry, Ron and Hermione appear in the back of the classroom from under an invisibility cloak and convince visitors to skip the lecture and go see a Quidditch tournament instead. Visitors are supposed to meet Hermione in the Room of Requirement, but have to walk past the animated portrait of the Fat Lady and through Gryffindor common room in order to do so. There are three moving paintings in this room: one of a Quidditch player, one of an etiquette teacher and one of a professor who explains in magical terms how the ride portion of Forbidden Journey will work. Here guests who don’t wish to ride the attraction but wanted to see the castle can leave if they wish. The tour ends in the Gryffindor common room, though the Sorting Hat and Room of Requirement are still ahead. It is in the Room of Requirement that guests can get on the ride, described as a “magically enchanted bench,” and see various beloved scenes from the series. Universal would not share the details of how this portion would work, instead saying they would prefer to maintain a “magical” element to the ride. The entire experience of the queue and ride are expected to be around an hour, Coup said, though to him “time stands still when you’re in there.” He said he always loved the stories and would read the books and show the movies to his son when he was growing up. “Watching his face when he was watching the movie and realizing we were going to be able to bring this to life … for me, it was the experience of a lifetime.” Are you excited for the Wizarding World to open?
