Two films with Dwayne Johnson, a Vietnam War romance and ‘The Expendables 2’ are in the Aussie actor’s future. By Fallon Prinzivalli Liam Hemsworth Photo: MTV News With “The Hunger Games” slaughtering its competition at the box office this past weekend, everyone’s eyes are locked on the movie’s three main stars to see what’s next. For those of you who loved Liam Hemsworth ‘s short but sweet scenes as Katniss Everdeen’s best friend, Gale, you’re in luck. While we’re sure the Aussie actor is enjoying the benefits of working hard on the film, he’s not sitting around waiting to film the sequel. He has quite a few other films in the works. Here’s a list of what to look forward to from the youngest Hemsworth brother. First on the list is his role as Bill “the Kid” Timmons, the newest addition to Sylvester Stallone’s team, in “The Expendables 2.” Mr. Church, played by Bruce Willis, enlists the Expendables for a job that seems like an easy paycheck. But when a member of the crew is brutally murdered, the Expendables seek revenge and find themselves on enemy turf with an unexpected threat looming over their heads. Also returning to the movie are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. Yu Nan joins Hemsworth as another of the team’s newcomers in the film, which is set to release on August 17. After watching Hemsworth battle it out in that action flick, you can catch him in a different type of warring film titled “AWOL.” Based on a true story, the film follows a young Vietnam soldier who returns home to the States in search of his newly ex-girlfriend. Austin Stowell plays the broken-hearted soldier, Joiner, and Aimee Teegarden plays Juniper, his high school sweetheart. Hemsworth stars as Joiner’s best friend, Wright, who accompanies him on the risky journey. The backdrop of the film, which will be released later this year, is the anti-war movement at the University of Michigan. Josh Hutcherson isn’t the only ‘Hunger Games’ actor who may be working with Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson. Next year, Hemsworth will star alongside the wrestler-turned-actor in “Empire State.” Also based on a true story, the movie follows a plan set in motion by two childhood friends (one of whom will be played by Hemsworth) to rob an armored car depository. Johnson plays a NYPD officer who attempts to stop the cash heist, and Emma Roberts joins the cast as a waitress who takes interest in Hemsworth’s character. Then, in 2014, Johnson and Hemsworth will reunite for “Arabian Nights.” The tale weaves together some of our favorite adventures as a young commander named Ali Baba (Hemsworth) teams up with Sinbad (Johnson), Aladdin and Aladdin’s genie in order to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from the dark forces of a sorcerer. And, of course, you will see Hemsworth reprise his role as Gale Hawthorne in the November 22, 2013 release of “Catching Fire.” Gale will be in the picture more often this time around, and we’re excited to see how Hemsworth develops the character. ’21 Jump Street’ star tells MTV News, ‘We’re waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ice Cube Photo: MTV News In addition to his comedic work in “21 Jump Street,” Ice Cube has been busy behind the camera, attempting to put two passion projects together as a producer. In recent months, rumors have swirled about a fourth “Friday” movie and a biopic on the members of N.W.A. When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz sat down with the rapper-turned-actor and producer, Cube offered an update on the latter. Addressing rumors that his “Boyz n the Hood” director, John Singleton , could possibly helm the project based on the rap group, Ice Cube basically said that he couldn’t say. “We’re interviewing a lot of directors. I don’t want to say ‘ye’ or ‘nay,’ but we’re interviewing directors,” he said. “So, the movie’s in progress in this high speed, and it’s coming along. Hopefully, we get it done.” The director remains the biggest missing piece of the puzzle, as Ice Cube confirmed that the script is where it needs to be for the flick to move forward. “I’m happy with the script. The script is about 75 percent there. We’re waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home,” he said. “It’s always stumbling blocks in Hollywood. There are always ways that the movie can not get made. Until they green-light the picture, start cutting checks, it’s still just a dream.” The most prevalent rumor around casting the film has been that the members’ sons will play their fathers. Cube said he wouldn’t have a problem with his son playing him, but he wants a traditional casting process first. “That’s a dream come true, but we’re going to find the best actor to do the job. That’s the thing about movies: You have got to find the best people to do the role,” he said. “It is going to be a role that I think is right for unknowns, people who you haven’t seen before. I think that’s the best way to pull this off.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘I’ve professed my love for her pretty much,’ Banks tells MTV News of Suzanne Collins. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Capitol Couture Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth — all names you’ll want to stand up and applaud for when the credits roll on “The Hunger Games,” no doubt. But if there’s one person you’ll really want to tip your hat to, it’s Suzanne Collins. Like J.K. Rowling with the “Harry Potter” series and Stephenie Meyer of “Twilight” fame, Collins is the novelist who dreamed Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne into existence. Without her, you wouldn’t have a tribute to fight for. Without her, you wouldn’t be on the cusp of what’s sure to be 2012’s biggest blockbuster so far. Certainly, actress Elizabeth Banks identifies Collins as the great hero of the “Hunger Games” franchise. In fact, “hero” isn’t a strong enough description — to Banks, Collins is a full-fledged rock star. “To me, the biggest star here is Suzanne Collins,” the actress and hard-core “Hunger Games” fan told MTV News about her feelings on the novel’s author. “She created this entire world, all of this pandemonium, all these characters. She birthed this whole situation. She couldn’t be a nicer lady. She’s the loveliest lady, and I’m a total geek around her. To me, she’s a total rock star.” Just as many fans would kill for the chance to spend time with the “Hunger Games” cast, so too did Banks swoon over getting one-on-one time in with Collins. “I’ve professed my love for her pretty much,” Banks laughed. “The books are done, and they’re the books, so she doesn’t need me to dissect them with her, but I’m very happy that she’s happy with the film. So to me, it was always about, ‘Let’s make director Gary Ross happy with the film, let’s make Suzanne happy. Everyone else, who cares.’ ” Of course, Banks cares very much about the fans, a group she described as “unbelievable.” “The passion of everyone here is crazy. It’s very exciting,” said Banks. “I’m very excited to see this movie with an audience. I saw it in a small room with two other people, so the energy in the room is going to be ballistically bananas. I brought tissues. It’s very emotional, this movie! I cried making it; It’s very emotional for me.” If Banks is already emotional over “Hunger Games,” she’ll want to bring plenty of tissues with her for “Catching Fire,” the planned sequel to the Collins-inspired movie. Though Banks wouldn’t confirm a start date for “Catching Fire,” she did tease a fashion item that she might end up wearing in the sequel. “In the books, Effie appears at the Reaping in a green dress,” she teased. “I did not wear the green dress in the movie. But we have it. It exists. So I think we’ll break that one out in ‘Catching Fire.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Marc Anthony is here to set the record straight: No, his marriage to Jennifer Lopez did not end due to an affair. In fact, there was nothing sensationalistic about the conclusion to their seven-year union at all, no matter what you may have read . “People are trying to peg it on things because it was so shocking,” Anthony told Nightline this week of the rumors when, in fact, the couple simply made a joint decision . Marc Anthony Nightline Interview The artist said all you can do is shake your head when chatter turns to such sordid tales as an affair between himself and HawthoRNe co-star Jada Pinkett Smith. “When something like that happens, it’s laughable. We’ve been friends for years. Jada, Jennifer, me, [Will Smith], for years,” he said, adding: “It was a flight attendant , it was the pilot – I heard it was this guy sitting next to me in a rehab in Houston. I’ve heard it all.” Anthony is simply trying to move on now, but he’ll have to do so professionally and personally: TNT canceled HawthoRNe yesterday.
Jada Pinkett and Marc Anthony engaged in some serious wack sex on Hawthorne. This scene is behind the controversial rumor that Will Smith walked in on Marc and Jada having sex which caused them to seperate. Welp, they actually (not really) did have sex! In a new ABC interview, Marc Anthony says he and Jennifer Lopez made a joint decision to divorce and, no, he did not have an affair. But a source tells Us Weekly the singer/actor did have have “inappropriate relationship” with HawthoRNe co-star Jada Pinkett Smith, somewhat confirming previous reports that linked this pair together romantically. “They were a little touchy and like they were in their own little world,” an on-set insider says , claiming Smith and Anthony often hung out alone in his trailer, while talking and texting often. Near the end of Anthony’s seven-year marriage to Jennifer Lopez, this mole says Marc leaned on Jada like never before. “The more distant Marc and Jennifer became, the closer he got to Jada… Jennifer didn’t like that.” Of course, another on-set source alleges the exact opposite to be true. So believe whichever side you’d like, readers. [Photo: TNT]
Bravo has now made it official: the season two premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will air as scheduled, this Monday night at 10 p.m. EST. Controversy has surrounded the series, of course, since Russell Armstrong took his own life this month. But the network said in a statement today that the situation will be addressed at the outset of the opening episode. “Bravo will proceed with the Monday, Sept. 5 premiere date of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” said Francis Berwick, president of Bravo Media. “Given that these episodes were filmed months ago, the producers of the show taped a brief interview this week with several of the cast members to introduce the premiere. Reediting of the episodes is still underway. “Our thoughts continue to be with the Armstrong family during this difficult time.” Is this the right decision? What do you think Bravo should do about season two?
