B.o.B Promises ‘Spectacular’ VMA Performance With Hayley Williams

‘I’m gonna attempt to levitate,’ the ‘Airplanes’ MC jokes about first-ever set with Paramore collaborator on Sunday. By Jayson Rodriguez B.o.B Photo: MTV News The clock is counting down to Sunday’s VMAs, and for Video of the Year nominees B.o.B and Hayley Williams it means finally meeting for the first time. The two collaborated on the rapper’s top-five hit “Airplanes” but have never met — they recorded the song and shot their parts for the video separately. They’re set to meet Saturday afternoon (September 11) in Los Angeles when they rehearse for their performance at the 2010 Video Music Awards. “I think just the fact that me and her are performing on the stage at the same [event] is gonna be spectacular,” B.o.B told MTV News on Friday about anticipation for his appearance with the Paramore singer. B.o.B is also set to perform with Bruno Mars, bringing their #1 collaboration “Nothin’ on You” to the Nokia Theatre. And the combination performance, comprised of the two smash collabos, is among the most-anticipated. The Atlanta lyricist is excited about his prime-time performance and said he was thinking about a new wrinkle for his set. “I’m gonna attempt to levitate,” he joked. “I don’t know if the dynamics of the room will allow me to do that, ’cause it requires me to really pull from the sky.” B.o.B is one of the most-nominated artists at the VMAs, scoring nods for Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video, among others. He actually found out about the recognition via Twitter. “I was just on Twitter checking to see what’s up, and then I saw I got nominated, and I was like, ‘All right, don’t mind if I do.’ ” he shared with us last month. The potential big haul left the melodic MC feeling special. “It’s very special to me,” B.o.B said. “I think it’s a lot more special than the success of the singles, because this reflects the work I’ve put in over the years and the word of mouth I’ve helped create. It’s definitely amazing. I’m trying to find the words to explain it, but I can’t. It’s inexplicable. I’m a real simple man, so, you know, I accept every gift with generosity and gratitude.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Weezer Say New LP Will Have ‘More Raw Rock Energy’

Still-untitled album due in September. By Kyle Anderson Weezer Photo: Geffen Weezer once let five years lapse between albums (1996’s Pinkterton and 2001’s Weezer, a.k.a. The Green Album ), but lately the group has become one of the more prolific outfits in rock. Less than a year removed from 2009’s Raditude, Weezer will put out their still-untitled eighth studio LP on September 13. According to frontman Rivers Cuomo, it won’t be business as usual for the veteran band. “There’s definitely going to be more raw rock energy on this one,” he told The News-Times, a paper based out of Danbury, Connecticut, not far from where Cuomo grew up. “I’ve spent the entire morning trying to come up with a name for the record. How does Heavy Mental sound?” The new album will mark the band’s first release away from Geffen Records, which originally signed Weezer and has put out all of their previous releases. “We don’t know what format these recordings are going to come out on,” Cuomo told MTV2’s “Subterranean” last year. “Is it going to be an old-fashioned CD put out by a record label? Is it going to be something that is only online? Is it going to be a shorter album — eight songs — or is it going to be a longer album — 20 songs? We don’t know. When the time comes, we’ll see what’s behind the next door.” Weezer’s eighth album also promises to have the same collaborative spirit as Raditude, which featured contributions from Lil Wayne, Dr. Luke and the All-American Rejects. Cuomo already said he was working with Ryan Adams , and other potential contributors include Katy Perry (with whom Rivers worked on her album Teenage Dream ) and Paramore singer Hayley Williams (who joined Weezer onstage at a Florida show in January for a rendition of the classic “Say It Ain’t So”). No matter what the album ends up sounding like or how it gets out into the world, Cuomo will have plenty to write about. In the past year, he has turned 40 years old, survived a harrowing tour bus accident and ventured into the world of sleeved blankets with the “Wuggie.” Related Artists Weezer

Eminem Joins B.o.B At BET Awards For ‘Airplanes’/ ‘Not Afraid’ Medley

Keyshia Cole takes over for Paramore’s Hayley Williams on the chorus. By Hillary Crosley Eminem performs at the 2010 BET Awards Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Not only did B.o.B get a chance to perform his hit “Nothin’ on You” during the BET Awards pre-show , but the rookie MC also brought out Keyshia Cole for his hit “Airplanes” during the main show. After an introduction by T.I. and Queen Latifah, during which the pair jokingly referenced T.I.’s arrest for gun charges before the 2007 BET Awards , B.o.B began his set by playing the piano. Cole launched into the song’s chorus, surprising the audience, since she’s been out of the spotlight following the birth of her first child with basketball player Daniel Gibson. Sporting blond hair, a textured red skirt with a black top and matching stilettos, Cole gave “Airplanes,” which originally featured Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, a soulful spin through her trademark vocal runs. Once Cole and B.o.B reached the chorus, Eminem joined the duo onstage for his verse on the track’s remix. Then, the music ran seamlessly into Em’s newest single, “Not Afraid.” The Detroit MC recently appeared on the “Late Show With David Letterman” to promote his and Jay-Z’s upcoming concerts at New York’s Yankee Stadium and Detroit’s Comerica Park. On Sunday night (June 27), wearing a black jacket with a white tee and jeans, the MC ran through “Not Afraid” backed by a five-piece band and a gospel choir. Rhyming with a reserved and controlled energy, Eminem ended his performance of the emotional track to a standing ovation. What did you think of B.o.B’s and Eminem’s performances? Eminem Wanted Recovery To Be ‘Different,’ Alex Da Kid Recalls

‘He was looking for new things,’ the ‘Love the Way You Lie’ producer tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Despite countless attempts to get in touch with the Shady Records camp, Alex Da Kid kept striking out. The British producer contacted Eminem’s management and sent various beats, but none of them made the Detroit MC take notice. Then Alex produced B.o.B’s “Airplanes,” featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and suddenly, Em was the one reaching out to him. The rapper loved “Airplanes” so much that he dropped a verse for the remix, “Airplanes, Part II.” It wasn’t until later, however, that the Shady One realized the producer of B.o.B’s hit was the same guy who was sending him musical samplings. According to Alex Da Kid, Em’s camp then reached out and requested “something different.” “A lot of time, generally in the industry, [artists] will say they want something different, but they don’t know what that is until they hear it,” said Alex, who produced Recovery ‘s “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna . “So you kind of just go out there yourself. ‘Cause if you chase what they did before, it never really works out, and I wanna do different things anyway. That’s my thing. I took his past work into account, but he was looking for new things, and I did my thing, and luckily it worked out.” The producer, who also helmed Nicki Minaj’s first single, “Massive Attack,” sent over only one beat, and Eminem jumped at the record. The result was “Love the Way You Lie,” an ode of sorts to the rapper’s tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Kim. Rihanna recently spoke about the collaboration and explained how Eminem got her to appear on the track. “They reached out to us directly, and they just said, ‘We have this song, and we just think Rihanna would be perfect to sing it,’ ” Rihanna recalled in an interview with E!’s Ben Lyons. “And, of course, I was like, ‘OK, if I love it, I’ll definitely do it, because I love Eminem.’ And I love the song. “It’s really beautiful, and it really stands out,” Rihanna added. “It’s a really unique record. I’m really excited about it.” What do you think of “Love the Way You Lie”? Share your thoughts in the comments. Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Is Your Summer Jam Of 2010

MTV users award prize to Gaga’s latest, despite Katy Perry’s Twitter rally for fans’ votes. By Kyle Anderson Lady Gaga The first of the season’s barbecues are already in the rearview mirror, which means it’s about time to crown an official summer jam of 2010 . Hayley Williams Nude Picture on Twitter: Topless TwitPic

Hayley Williams Twitpic: Internet Security Expert Offers Advice On Protection

Safe passwords, avoid sexting are among the recommendations. By Gil Kaufman Hayley Williams Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images When private pictures go public it’s always embarrassing, especially when you’re a celebrity and the whole world wants to look. The latest star to fall prey to a nude-pic hack is Paramore’s Hayley Williams , who told her 600,000-plus Twitter followers on Thursday that someone had jacked her account. The Tweet was in response to a topless photo of the 21-year-old singer that began making the rounds that day, which Williams alleged was sent out without her consent by someone who cracked her Twitpic account, but which some online reports suggested may have been accidentally posted by the singer and then quickly removed — but not before it began rocketing across the Internet. Internet privacy and security lawyer Dr. Parry Aftab — who was one of the experts in MTV’s recent “Sexting In America: When Privates Go Public” special — said on Friday (May 28) that there are a number of relatively simple ways to make sure your private business stays that way. “It all starts with good digital hygiene,” said Aftab. “It’s like brushing your teeth twice a day so you won’t get cavities and won’t offend the person sitting across from you. The first step is picking a password that easy to remember but hard to get.” Aftab said the mistake most people make is choosing a password from the “20 questions” list, which include such obvious things as your middle name, favorite sports team, the street you live on or your pet’s name, all information that is easy to obtain if you are a public figure. That, she noted, is how a kid from France was able to hack President Obama’s Twitter account earlier this year by guessing that the leader of the free world used the First Dog Bo’s name as his password. “If you don’t use a password that’s hard to guess, anyone can figure it out, but you also don’t want one that’s so hard for you to remember that you have to write it down, because then someone can find it,” she warned. The other hygienic practice she recommends is not pre-saving passwords on computers, iPads or other digital devices. Though it is a time saver and might help you avoid fumbling for the right password, Aftab said if anyone else uses the device, it could spell trouble. “If you have an assistant or you share the device with a friend — or someone you think is your friend — it allows them access to all your special stuff,” she said. “And that’s like pre-saving your ATM number. You just don’t want to store that on any device that someone else can access. It’s like locking your door instead of leaving it wide open.” And while Aftab recommends keeping intimate moments completely private, if you are going to sext, she said to remove the salacious images from any device where they can be shared. “If you’re taking a naked picture, the best thing is not to text it,” she said. “You’re better off printing it out and handing it to him, but even that can be scanned and texted out. Anything in a digital format exists forever, and you can never really protect it. It’s the law of negativity in the universe: If it’s there, it will be found.” If you are a victim of a sexy picture gone viral, Aftab said the next best thing you can do is stop it as fast as you can. “When you’re on Twitter and your followed by a gazillion people you can’t really stop it,” she said. “But you can try to delete it. If someone hacked it or it got sent out by accident, which happens all the time, that’s why you don’t keep it in a place where it can be sent out accidentally by clicking a button.” Aftab doesn’t just issue warnings and advice, she has also been working with Twitter on a Verified Twitter program that is now in beta testing and is similar to the one she set up Faceook called the Certified Celebrity Program. “My consulting firm [Wired Trust] is doing it as a free service for celebrities to confirm who they are, so Facebook will protect those pages and nobody can try to take them over unless they’re authorized though a special thing we have set up through Facebook,” she said. Like the Facebook program, the new Twitter tool will allow celebrities to keep their profiles on lock and, if need be, act quickly in case something goes awry. “If Twitter knows you’re a verified celebrity and something happens, there’s a special contact that can shut things down in a heartbeat,” she said. Celebrities aren’t the only ones vulnerable to digital drama. Go to MTV’s AThinLine.org to learn what you can do to protect yourself. Related Artists Paramore
