Egg Recall: National Outbreak Of salmonella

According to the media reports, a national outbreak of salmonella in eggs has sickened hundreds of people since May and appears to be ongoing, experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say. The outbreak has been tracked to in-shell eggs from Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa, which has launched a recall. The recall was launched Aug. 13. Salmonella can cause fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea and usually lasts four to seven days. As a statement of Casey Barton Behravesh who is a veterinary epidemiologist with the CDC, the type of salmonella causing the outbreak, salmonella enteritidis, is the most common form. The normal level of laboratory-confirmed cases nationally for this specific type is about 50 cases per week. When that jumped to 200 cases a week in June, public health workers realized they had a problem. It was reported on USAToday.com, the eggs from the company were sold under multiple brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps. They were distributed nationwide. The recall covers eggs in their shells packed between May 16 and Aug. 13. They come in cartons ranging from six to 18 eggs and are marked with plant numbers P-1026, P-1413 and P-1946. The eggs should be returned for a refund and not consumed. Completely cooking eggs reduces the amount of salmonella bacteria in the eggs. Each case of laboratory-confirmed salmonella usually represents 30 cases that were not reported, public health research shows. So the number of people sickened in this outbreak could be in the thousands. From Caroline Smith DeWaal, food safety director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, “This certainly has the potential to be a very large outbreak both given the apparent number of reported cases so far and also the fact that many of these eggs may still be in consumer refrigerators.” Further from Casey Barton Behravesh, CDC is not reporting deaths or hospitalizations in the outbreak because it’s difficult to determine if they are related to eggs from Wright County Egg or are part of the expected “background” level of cases from other sources. Food and Drug Administration spokeswoman Patricia El-Hinnawy said that Food and Drug Administration currently has teams on site at Wright County Egg. In other report of Associated Press, State health officials say seven salmonella cases in Minnesota have been linked to a multistate egg recall. The salmonella cases were identified in two restaurant outbreaks in May and in July. Health officials believe the eggs are the likely source. The eggs from Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa were delivered to food distribution centers and food service companies in eight states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Minnesota Public Radio reports that for every confirmed salmonella case, state health officials estimate there are 38 unconfirmed cases. Silva Ending Up Harsh Talks With Sonnen in UFC 117

UFC 117 will eventually take place August 7, 2010 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, United States. It will showcase the much anticipated match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen for the Middleweight title. Sonnen has been releasing insulting words against Silva who remained soft spoken up to this time. Silva being the title holder amazingly defended it against 12 fighters since UFC 64 when he defeated Rich Franklin via TKO way back 2006. Sonnen’s previous fights on the hand hs been jaw dropping when he managed to free himself from two deadly and very deep Guillotine Chokes in the first and third rounds by Nate Marquardt in UFC 109. Sonnen was declared as winner via unanimous decision. Both fighters has the potential to win and both has strong reasons to grab the title. Silva would surely not let Sonnen get the title that he has been defending for so long while Sonnen will prove to everyone that he is not only good at words but in actions as well. Silva has kept his profile low ever since. His awesome fights were often out shined by other more popular matches. UFC 117 Live Stream could be your solution to witness this much awaited event if you can’t make it to the octagon live, then it would be more exciting. Apple’s Solution To Single Problem Opens Another One

As the problem of Apple’s iPhone 4 antenna has been spreading like virus lately, Apple can’t just sit back and just listen to the hundreds of freaking clients’ complaint. The company has offered an iPhone software update that eventually corrects the way that different versions of the handset display signal strength. Apple discovered in their investigation that the formula it had been using to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display was “totally wrong”. The formula regularly displayed two more bars of strength than it should. This has been the content of the newsletter they released. iPhone users would connect their phone to Mac or their PC to update their device. However, comments has been flooding that after they update their device, the handset’s operating system made their phone far more likely to drop calls. Their phone suddenly reboots in the middle of a conversation. Apple will hold a press conference at 1800 BST that aims to talk about the problem that has been going on. If you currently own an iPhone now, how does the update change your device? Feel free to leave your comments here. Israel blacklisted some weapons and materials to enter Gaza

The Israeli government announced the list of what goods it will allow to enter the Gaza Strip. A blacklist of items including weapons and materials that could have a military use will be limited or barred, but consumer goods are all allowed. The blacklist includes multi-purpose items that could be used to manufacture explosives and weapons, such as fireworks and ball bearings. Materials such as steel, fertilizers, cement and chemicals will be allowed in for Palestinian Authority-approved projects that are under the supervision and for the use of the UN or other international agencies. Hamas, the one who controls Gaza Strip, dismissed the concessions as of no use and said the blockade should be fully lifted. Its blockade of the Palestinian territory is needed to prevent the supply of weapons to Hamas, Israel says. Israel came under pressure to ease its 4-year blockade of Gaza after 9 activists from Turkey were killed in a an Israeli raid last 31st day of May, on a flotilla that was trying to carry aid to the Palestinian territory.
