‘Gone Till November’ will come out two years after Weezy’s release from Rikers Island. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has a story to tell. Well, Lil Wayne probably has a bunch of stories to tell, but this fall the multiplatinum rap superstar will release “Gone Till November,” his memoir based on the diaries he kept while he was locked up for eight months on Rikers Island in New York. The book, which will come out in November, two years after Weezy’s release from prison, is being described as an internal monologue, according to the Associated Press . It will be released through Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group. Weezy was freed from Rikers Island on November 4, 2010, after he served eight months of a year-long sentence for an attempted gun possession charge. Police had arrested the rapper in 2007 following his headlining performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Wayne eventually pleaded guilty to the charge and turned himself in to authorities in March of 2010. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway caught up with Wayne in Miami at a welcome-home party just days after his prison release. When asked how his transition from prison was going, Weezy simply responded with a grin. “I forgot about yesterday,” he said after thanking his fans and family for their support. He hasn’t completely forgotten, however, now that Wayne, who has since toured the world and released his double-platinum Tha Carter IV, plans to reminisce a little. Lady Gaga made some morose comments about her past relationships the other day, but it looks like her budding romance with Taylor Kinney is in full swing. The singer and her buzzed-about new beau were spotted sharing some backstage PDA at the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre, according to People . The two kept their hands to themselves in public, but they were spotted embracing in the privacy of the hallway backstage. Looks like Gaga’s got a keeper … The couple met on the set of her “You and I” music video in Nebraska, and – despite her claims that it’s not serious – they have been inseparable ever since. While some of the actor’s Vampire Diaries co-stars were also at the show, and even walked the red carpet, he stuck by Gaga for her headlining performance. Onlookers later spotted the two holding hands and acting like a couple. A cute couple, albeit an unlikely one, to say the least … [Photos: WENN.com]
‘Our energy is in the same place,’ Matt tells MTV News of his headlining tourmates on Honda Civic dates. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker, with additional reporting by Morgan Schwartz Photo: Getty Images Matt and Kim have been recording material at the brand-new Converse Rubber Tracks recording studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. MTV News went there to catch up with the indie/pop duo, and while they mostly kept quiet about any new songs, they did talk to us about their recent Sidewalks Tour as well as their new opening-act gig on the Honda Civic Tour with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance. The animated Brooklyn-based musicians couldn’t seem to contain their excitement about joining Blink and MCR. “This year has been just a nonstop year,” Matt gushed. “We didn’t want to stop!” Kim said of their headlining Sidewalks Tour. “We wanted to add more dates, we wanted to keep going.” Matt and Kim will begin touring with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance this month, and they plan to bring it, knowing that some fans at the venues may not be familiar with their music yet. “At our shows, it’s not just like one type of audience member,” Matt explained of the kinds of crowds they’re used to seeing. “It’s people who are into all different kinds of music.” As for playing in front of the fanbases of two different bands on the tour, Matt and Kim aren’t fretting. “Even though musically we might sound a bit different than those two bands, our energy is in the same place,” Matt said, referring to the three groups’ shared love of stage-diving, crowd-surfing and moshing. “There’s a big difference between playing for, you know, 3,000 people at our show to playing to a 20,000-person place, where people might not know any of your songs,” Matt admitted with a smile. “But I feel we play a simple enough music, so upbeat and melody-driven, that on a first listen, people can almost be singing along to the songs by the end.” Fans can catch Matt and Kim on the Honda Civic Tour with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance beginning September 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
