Patrick Swayze Dies Aged 57

Patrick Swayze is dead at the age of 57 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, his publicist said Monday night. He was one of Hollywood’s most charismatic actors, perhaps best known for his roles in “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost.” Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2008 and his health has declined since the diagnosis.

Obama tries to build momentum for health overhaul

“President Barack Obama will tell the nation in a prime-time address precisely how he wants to expand health care, pitching a fresh argument — but, to liberal disappointment, no demand — for a government-run insurance option. “The president's going to speak clearly and directly to the American people about what's in this bill for them,” press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday, hours before Obama appeared before a rare joint session of Congress and a live national television audience.” —— In one of the provisions “Americans would be fined up to $3,800 for failing to buy health insurance under a plan that circulated in Congress on Tuesday as divisions among Democrats undercut President Barack Obama's effort to regain traction on his health care overhaul.” The fast-moving developments put Obama in a box. As a candidate, he opposed fines to force individuals to buy health insurance, and he supported setting up a public insurance plan.

Soldier killed in Afghanistan re-enlisted to get health care coverage for family

CNN news anchor John Roberts asks “How far would you go to get good health insurance?” A report this morning tells the heartbreaking story of a man who lost his job as a computer consultant, and along with the job went the health insurance for his family. Army SPC Greg Missman had ended his military service 11 years earlier, but signed back on in order to provide his young son Jack with health insurance coverage. After only one month on the ground in Afghanistan, Missman's father Jim received the news that Greg's convoy had been ambushed, and Greg was killed in the attack.
