J.J. Abrams Gives Fan With Cancer A Way Early Sneak Of ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

Combine a kind heart and the power of social networking and sometimes, the proverbial mountain will go to Muhammad. That was the case recently when director J.J. Abrams granted a dying cancer patient the chance to see Star Trek Into Darkness months before the feature is set to head into theaters. [ Related: New ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Teaser: The Wrath Of Cumberbatch? ] Abrams learned of the man’s wish last week on link-sharing site Reddit. A user identified as ideeeyut detailed how his 41-year old Trekkie friend, who has leukemia and other health issues, headed out to a screening of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hoping to catch a ten-minute preview of the upcoming Star Trek film. The theater, however, did not play the preview, which is showing in most theaters. The disappointment lead Daniel’s friend to give a “passionate plea” via Reddit for help to allow Daniel to see the film, according to CNET via Deadline. After the request hit Reddit, the story found its way onto a number of Trek and geek sites, leading one user to tweet the story to J.J. Abrams and other working on the film, leading to Abrams telephoning Daniel up about setting plans for a personal preview. Ideeyut went back to Reddit a few days later, quoting Daniel’s wife who said, “We saw it and we enjoyed it immensely as a film and as a gesture.” She said further that she hoped the message would spotlight the “heartfelt message of giving.” Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17th. Tell ‘Em Why You Mad Son! Study Shows People Who Vent Their Anger Live Longer Lives

Here’s a lil FYI for ya! If you mad be mad cuz it might add an additional two years to your life! A new study published in the Health Psychologies journal by a team of German researchers shows that people who release their anger live an average of two years longer than those who hold their tempers in. The study followed 6,000 people, primarily Italians and Spanish folks and found that “repressors,” the patients who internalized their emotion, often experienced an elevated pulse which increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and other medical problems. In findings published in the journal Health Psychologies, the analysis of 6,000 patients showed those who internalized anxiety ran the risk of an elevated pulse — increasing the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and other ailments. On a positive note, repressors were found to recover from illness more quickly — likely due to their discipline. Shutterstock

Emily VanCamp in Women’s Health: All-Natural and Down-to-Earth

Emily VanCamp is as glamorous – and devious – as they come on Revenge Season 2 . In real life, the beautiful 26-year-old Canadian actress seems like anything but. “When I take off my makeup, that’s my boyfriend’s favorite,” she tells Women’s Health . “To me, that’s a symbol of a great guy – someone who doesn’t care about [glamorous] stuff.” Her boyfriend, of course, is co-star Josh Bowman, with whom she recently went on a fishing trip in his native England with his father. How’d that go? “I was there in my baseball cap and these crappy fishing clothes,” she explains. “And I remember thinking, this is when I feel 100 percent comfortable – in these dirty clothes with fish guts all over them. I know it probably sounds horrendous.” “I’m at my most confident when I’m in nature and I don’t have to dress up.” When it comes to relationships, she says it’s all about effort and balance. “It’s more about accepting each other as separate people,” she says. “Laugh a lot and be really delicate with the other person’s heart, because sometimes you start to take each other for granted. Always remember, neither of you needs to be there.” “I also like to reflect,” she says. “I need that sort of peace and quiet. It’s something my friends and I laugh about: ‘Oh, Emily’s having a night to herself.’ It centers me.” Check out more Emily VanCamp photos below!

Governor Christie Claims His Weight Won’t Mean Isht If He’s The Pres [Video]

According to Bloomberg , Governor Christie got put on blast when Barbara Walter’s interviewed him for her “10 Most Fascinating People” special that airs today. The 50-year-old Republican, who plans to seek a second term as governor next year and hasn’t ruled out a 2016 White House bid, said he was “more than a little” overweight when Walters asked him about his size. Walters tells Christie that concerns about his health are the reason people raise questions about his weight. The governor said he was perplexed by those who say that his size should disqualify him from the White House. “That’s ridiculous,” Christie said. “I don’t know what the basis for that is.” Christie has said his struggle with weight began 30 years ago when he stopped playing organized school sports. He told Oprah Winfrey in January that he was working with a dietitian and exercising more regularly. The governor has shown a willingness to joke at his own expense, last month kiddingly refusing to answer questions about the bankruptcy of Hostess Brands, maker of Twinkies snack cakes. During the Walters interview, Christie highlighted his recent response to superstorm Sandy as proof that his size doesn’t slow him down. “I’ve done this job pretty well and I think people have watched me for the last number of weeks and Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting right back up the next day and still being just as effective,” he said in a clip of the interview. “So I really don’t think that would be a problem.” Do you think the Governor’s weight means he has a lack of control??? Prank DJs May Face Probe in Kate Middleton Nurse Death

The two DJs whose now-infamous Kate Middleton prank call apparently led a nurse to commit suicide may face a criminal probe, according to reports. Mel Greig and Michael Christian of Sydney’s 2Day FM pretended to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles inquiring about the health of the pregnant Duchess. The hoax has caused public outcry after Jacintha Saldanha’s suicide . The 46-year-old nurse, who connected the pair to the Duchess’ room, was found dead Friday morning after police were called to an address near the hospital. Circumstances of her death are still being investigated, and are not suspicious at this stage; however, authorities are looking into whether any laws were broken . British police have contacted Australian police about a possible probe into the prank call, specifically the recording and dissemination of the private conversation. Rhys Holleran, CEO of Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of 2Day FM, has apologized profusely, yet maintains that no laws were broken. The prank had been cleared by the Australian radio station’s lawyers. Holleran said the DJs followed the company’s procedures before broadcasting the call. “Our main concern at this point in time is what has happened is incredibly tragic and we’re deeply saddened and we’re incredibly affected by that,” Holleran said. At the same time, he added, “we’re very confident that we haven’t done anything illegal.” Lord Glenarthur, chairman of King Edward VII’s Hospital, where the pregnant Kate Middleton was/is receiving treatment, condemned the prank Saturday. Glenarthur said the call humiliated “two dedicated and caring nurses,” and the consequences were “tragic beyond words,” The Associated Press reported. Whether it results in criminal charges remains to be seen, but the DJs have already taken themselves off the air and are said to be in “intense” grief counseling.

Brooke Burke Prepares For Cancer Surgery

Dancing With the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet is set to undergo a thyroidectomy this week. She recently Tweeted some “last looks at my neck.” “Here we go,” she wrote, along with the image below: Brooke Burke’s thyroid cancer diagnosis shocked fans – and her family – earlier this year, and the mother of four young kids says breaking the news was the hard part. Burke-Charvet has been blogging about her health struggle for Modern Mom, and recently opened up about how she told her family about her cancer diagnosis: “I decided not to tell my children about my diagnosis for as long as I possibly could because I didn’t want them to worry,” she wrote on Wednesday. “I know that my younger ones still don’t have a great concept of time and I didn’t want them to be anxious, worried and asking 1,000 questions.” Children Neriah and Sierra were the first to find out, but it was Burke-Charvet’s son Shaya whose reaction shocked the model and TV personality most. “[He would say] ‘I don’t want Mommy to die’ [and that] is “the stuff that breaks my heart and scares me.” As she prepares for her procedure, Burke is also focused on her healing process, and her recovery. “I’m not afraid anymore,” Burke-Charvet said. “I think I’ve been dealing with it so much the past couple months that now I’m ready to just get it done.” “My only need is being OK for my husband and my children so they don’t have to go through any pain and making this as easy as possible for them.” Here’s wishing Brooke and her family nothing but the best in these trying times.

Rihanna Apologizes For 777 Tour "Bedlam"

Rihanna’s odd 777 tour – seven cities in seven days with a plane full of fans and reporters – ends in NYC this evening. For some, not a moment too soon. As horror stories from the tour emerge at breakneck speed, so fast that the Unapologetic singer actually apologized (sorta) for some of what transpired. Streaker on Rihanna Tour Plane Or more accurately, what didn’t. Rihanna being MIA was the biggest gripe. ”I know you guys got barely any dirt,” she told the press Tuesday. “I had to preserve my health. Normally, I’d be back here popping bottles with y’all … I had to preserve my voice. I was worried about my body more than partying.” “I had to just sleep whenever I could.” “But I had to be good. I still sound like $h!t. It’s impossible to spend time with everybody. I’m sorry I didn’t. But this was excellent and I would definitely do it again.” No stories about Rihanna, ironically, became the big story. ”There has been general discontent with the dearth of interaction with the star,” Spin reported. ”One person was basically responsible for not only keeping us from doing our jobs, but from sleeping, eating, going outside or even using a bathroom.” Eventually, disgruntled plane passengers broke out in chants like ”Save our jobs! Save our jobs!” and “Just one quote!” and, most hilariously, “Wi-Fi!” Other issues: Long waits on buses, tarmacs and in windowless pens, nude on-board streakers (above), bad food, too much alcohol and overall “bedlam.” Also distressing were the living conditions, which seemed closer to cattle keeping than the supposed glamor a round-the-world jet would imply. The streaker, Australian DJ Tim Dormer, at least used the 777 tour to his advantage. Rihanna herself did not, despite the great cost of the publicity stunt. The pop superstar gave fans and reporters attention on day one, mingling and serving champagne, and then promptly disappeared for the remaining six. She did, however, tweet pics of herself in various stages of undress. Phew. Who cares about in-person mingling when you can see Rihanna nude on Twitter.

Magazine Covers: Jamie Foxx Talks Django Unchained And Flexes His Guns In Men’s Health!

Jamie Foxx is posted up on the December issue of Men’s Health magazine and from the looks of his biceps, we’re wondering just how powerful Django Unchained is going to be. Here are a few snippets from his interview in the mag: Jamie on why playing a cowboy in Django Unchained was second nature to him… “I watched Bonanza. I watched Hee Haw. I spun guns on my finger. Every kid, if you were in Texas, wanted to be a cowboy, whether you were black, white, Mexican, whatever.” Jamie after delving into centuries of American racism for Django Unchained… [A few onscreen fistfights were] “actually a breath of fresh air, to get all that tension out.” Jamie on being one of the most adaptable entertainers in the business… “You just have to live. As a comedian, you have to do it in different rooms. You can do it in the hood; I did it in the hood for a long time. And I took that same muscle and did it uptown, where the audience is Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and all those guys. You still remain the same person, and you get your stamp. It’s like a passport.” Jamie on the one experience that gave him a certain authority on the set of Any Given Sunday… “I got into the movie, and there’s Al Pacino, there’s Cameron Diaz, there’s James Woods, there’s all these incredible actors. But the one thing I had on my side: I played football. And I knew more about football than any of these guys. That’s what I relied on.” Jamie on his evolving career… “One thing I’ve learned: You have to rely on someone to tell you what is hot and what’s not as you get older. That’s what I do; I ask. When Kanye was telling me about ‘Slow Jamz,’ I was trying to sing it all happy, and he was like, ‘Don’t do that. This is hip-hop. Trust me, the simpler it is, the more effective it is.’ Music is changing. If you don’t change with it, you’ll be at the casino performing: ‘How y’all feel out there tonight?’ I’m still learning how to stay relevant and current–and at the same time not lose who I am, not be too young.” Jamie on his willingness to unlearn to stay on top… “Here’s what you’re going to unlearn now: Somehow you have to pull yourself away from media, not be so shiny in the next 10 years, because it hurts the art. When you go on talk shows, you have to be lighthearted, which helps and hurts. Now I’ve got to change the satellite a little bit. That’s the tricky part now. How do you navigate through the world you live in and still be an artist? Because that’s the only thing that’s going to survive.” Jamie on doing pushups during down time at his cover shoot… “It goes back to when you’re a kid looking in the mirror, and you want to be the guy in the magazine.” Images via Men’s Health Magazine
