Elisabeth Hasselbeck Goes Off on Sarah Palin

In never-thought-you’d-see-the-day news, staunch conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck went off on The View yesterday, railing against none other than Sarah Palin. Why? Because Palin, for whom she campaigned during the 2008 election, released an ad that put 20 Democratic members of the U.S. Congress literally in the crosshairs. Palin’s call to kill Democrats grass roots action came in response to the Dems’ big f*%king deal overhaul of the health care system, which she’s very opposed to. The former Alaska Governor’s Facebook page features her political action committee’s ad targeting the 20 Democratic incumbents, with a “SarahPac map” marking, with guns, the districts where Democrats voted “yes” for health care reform. Elisabeth would like a mulligan on this campaign rally. Hasselbeck also opposes health reform, but she’s actually far more upset about how people on her own side of the political spectrum are handling themselves. “I think the way some Republicans are handling this is nothing more than purely despicable,” she said in response to Palin’s ad. “It’s disappointing to see this come from the Party, and I would hope that leaders like Sarah Palin would end this.” No word if Sarah also plugged Bristol Palin on there somehow. Liberal-leaning co-host Joy Behar got Elisabeth going by saying the map looked “like an Al Qaeda Christmas card.” We were surprised to watch Elisabeth concur. Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Due June 8

New single, ‘Not Myself Tonight,’ to premiere on singer’s Web site Tuesday. By James Dinh Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Photo: RCA It’s been three-and-a-half years since Christina Aguilera released Back to Basics, her last full album of new material, but the singer is finally ready to hit the music scene again. Over the past few years, she’s remained busy raising her son Max and wrapping up production on her film debut “Burlesque,” but on Thursday (March 25) she announced that her fourth studio album, Bionic, will drop on June 8, and its first single, “Not Myself Tonight,” will premiere at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday on ChristinaAguilera.com and will be available on iTunes on April 13. “Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience,” she said in a press release. “The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic,” she said of her collaborators, which include Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Linda Perry, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch and Ladytron, among others. “Not Myself Tonight” was produced by Polow Da Don and an early preview may be in the works, as an empty media player is on her Web site and asks fans to come back on Friday “for an exclusive preview.” Earlier this week, the song’s single artwork and lyrics were posted on Aguilera’s site; the lyrics suggest a re-emergence of the singer’s raunchy side that she flaunted during on 2002’s Stripped : “The old me’s gone I feel brand new/ And if you don’t like it, f– you.” Fans got an early glimpse of the singer’s new material when she debuted “Lift Me Up” during “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon in late January. The ballad, which was produced and written by Perry, will also be included on the album. Aguilera, whose work has spanned pop and throwback R&B in the past, suggested that yet more styles are featured on Bionic. “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect,” she said. In addition to the release, the image of what appears to be the cover of Bionic was posted on her site. With her hair slicked back, a head shot of a robotic Aguilera is shown with the right side of her face revealing the mechanics of several musical instruments leading down to her neck with an opened, silver chokehold. Back in January, the singer spoke about the “futuristic” LP to Marie Claire, admitting that “maybe I’ve been afraid in the past to allow myself to go to a place of ‘less singing.’ ” On the new album, “I’m more vulnerable and more strong at the same time.” Are you excited for Christina’s new CD? Paige Miles Says She Got ‘Mixed Messages’ On ‘American Idol’

‘The best thing to do, really, is just do yourself,’ she says. By Katie Byrne Paige Miles Photo: FOX Most “American Idol” fans would agree that Paige Miles made it farther in the competition than anyone could have predicted. Not only was she virtually nonexistent on the show once before being named to the top 24, she also got week after week of criticism from the judges for not living up to her potential. On top of that, she struggled with laryngitis over the past two weeks. But, against all odds (sorry!), she soldiered through to the top 11, unfortunately just missing the cut for this summer’s Idols Live! Tour. Her version of the oft-covered “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins was lambasted by the judges, and voters agreed, sending her packing during Wednesday’s results show. We caught up with the bubbly schoolteacher on Thursday (March 25) to talk about the judges’ save being yanked from her before she even sang and what’s next in her career. Q : Were you upset that the judges took away the save before you sang during the results show? Did that hurt? A : Yes, it did. I initially thought the save was something that even if they’re not going to use it, you’d get the opportunity to at least sing for it, and then they make their decision. But for the statement to be made before I opened my mouth, I was pretty bummed. Q : How much power do you think the judges have over voters? A : The judges obviously have a certain amount of power over the voting public, but it also comes down to the performer delivering a good, solid performance. Tuesday night definitely wasn’t my best, and they ripped me for it. So it can go both ways, ’cause sometimes, [voters will] back up the person that the judges ripped apart if they feel that that person really delivered, but you never really know how America’s gonna vote. Q : Did you and your fellow contestants discuss how to please the judges? A : Yeah, the best thing to do, really, is just do yourself and do what makes you most comfortable, because the judges can give mixed messages. Q : A lot of critics said Miley Cyrus was too young to be a mentor on “American Idol.” How do you think she did coaching the contestants? A : I think Miley did a great job. I mean, I’m 24, so I’m older than her, but talking with her, her age didn’t come across at all. I mean, I was just speaking to her as someone else with experience doing exactly what I would like to do, so she was great. Q : Are you able to still sing with laryngitis? Because you sounded great last night, but your voice sounds really rough this morning. A : Yeah, it was bad last night [too]. It wasn’t as bad as it is now. I’ve been struggling with laryngitis for over three weeks now. I have swollen vocal cords and there’s a lot of inflammation, and with the singing and rehearsing as much as we do, I have very little time for it to heal, so it would basically get a little bit better, [and] then I would have to sing again and it would get worse again. So it’s tough when you’re in a singing competition and you have no voice. That was a bummer, and that affected my song choice at times, because I would kind of stay away from what I would typically do, like big, belty tunes like [Free’s] “All Right Now,” which I love and I’m super comfortable at, and I would kind of shy away and try to do something smaller in efforts to not … do something where I could possibly damage them. Q : Did you realize how many times “Against All Odds” had been sung on “Idol,” and did that affect your decision to sing it? A : Actually I hadn’t realized how many times it had been done. I was in rehearsals last week and was just trying to find a slower song that I wouldn’t have to stress vocally too much over, because my vocal cords were pretty much trashed, and I didn’t want to do anything too uptempo and crazy, just really trying to take care of my vocal cords if I were to keep going, but I probably should have just picked something I was super comfortable with, which is something like “All Right Now,” and just gone for it, but you live and you learn, and I was trying to make a decision for me and my health. Q : Do you feel that the lack of screen time before the semifinals hurt you? A : Well, early on, a lot of the kids were able to build a fanbase, whereas I wasn’t able to. But still, what you come out there and do on the stage really sets the tone, and if I would have delivered the way I know I could have, maybe I would still be around. So, yes and no. Q : What did you think about Simon’s comment right off the bat that you had the best voice in the competition? A : I thought it was a pretty awesome comment, so I was happy he said it. I mean, a lot of people didn’t know anything about me, they hadn’t heard me at all … so it was nice to hear him say that. Q : Are there any artists who inspire you or you’d like to model your career after? A : I wouldn’t say necessarily model my career after, ’cause I think what makes an artist great and individual is how their career has kind of … formed its own shape, which makes them stand out. But I really admire Christina Aguilera. She’s a beautiful woman, and she has an amazing voice. She’s kind of followed her own drum, which I also really like. She doesn’t put out an album every year. She takes her time, and she makes artwork out of her albums. I really admire that about her. Q : In an interview package, you revealed that coloring relaxes you before a performance. Does that come from being around kids so much? A : Yeah. We would do it in class, and it was a way to kind of calm down the room. “Idol” is very high-stress and a lot of tension and anxiety, so people usually can’t find a way to get their nerves down. If you just open up a coloring book and start coloring, you end up being kind of focused on what you’re doing, and it’s just a way to relax. Some people do yoga, some meditate, and I like to just whip out a box of crayons and color. [ Laughs. ] So it’s a little cheesy, I know, but it works. Q : It sounds relaxing! A : It really is. I can’t draw to save my life, but I can color. I can stay in the lines. Were you sad to see Paige go home? Did you think it was unfair of the judges to take the save away from her before she had the chance to sing? Let us know in the comments! Threats Against Lawmakers After Health Care Vote

Bricks have been hurled through Democrats' windows, a propane line was cut at the home of a congressman's brother and lawmakers who voted for a federal health care bill have received phone threats in the days before and after passage of the sweeping legislation. Authorities are investigating incidents in Kansas, Virginia and other places, including Rochester, N.Y., where a brick tossed through the window of a county Democratic Party office had a note attached that said: ''Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice,'' roughly quoting the late Barry Goldwater, the 1964 Republican presidential nominee. The FBI and Capitol Police were briefing Democratic lawmakers on how to handle perceived security threats after at least 10 reported incidents, said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md. Those who feel they are at risk will be ''getting attention from the proper authorities,'' Hoyer said, declining to say whether any are now receiving added security. Normally only those in leadership positions have personal security guards. The threats surprised an official with a think tank that monitors extremist groups. ''I think it is astounding that we are seeing this wave of vigilantism,'' said Mark Potok of the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center. In Virginia, authorities were investigating after someone cut a propane line leading to a grill at the Charlottesville home of U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello's brother. Perriello also said a threatening letter was sent to his brother's house. The home's address was posted online by tea party activists angry about the Virginia Democrat's vote in favor of the health care overhaul. They had mistaken the brother's address for that of the lawmaker. Potok compared the online posting of a public official's address to tactics used by hate groups. ''This is what neo Nazi leaders in America do today,'' Potok said. ''They post personal information about their enemies and sit back and wait for somebody else to act.'' In western New York, police are investigating after bricks were thrown through windows at two Democratic offices, but there have been no arrests. One was thrown through a window at Democratic Rep. Louise Slaughter's district office in Niagara Falls early Friday. Slaughter, whose district stretches from Rochester to the Buffalo area, has been a key supporter of the health care reform bill passed by the House on Sunday. Sometime from late Saturday or Sunday in Rochester, N.Y., a brick was hurled at a wooden-framed glass door of the county Democratic Committee offices. The county party's spokesman, Sean Hart, said the glass ''only spider-webbed'' but didn't shatter, and the brick then appeared to have been picked up and thrown through the adjoining glass door. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/24/us/politics/AP-US-Health-Care-Threats.html?hp added by: current89

President Obama signed the New Health Care Bill using 22 Pens

Tuesday, the much talked-about New Health Care Bill of USA has already been signed by their historic president, President Barack Obama. Just like any other significant laws that has been passed, signing of it by the President is really a headline. A major bill such as this is already taking its own part in the history of USA. In as much as the signing has been observed, the number of pens that the president will use is also significant. It a memorabilia of a historic. During this time, President Obama used 22 pens to be exact. He kept one for himself, 2 went to the Presidential Archives and the other 19 were given as mementos to those gathered around him during the signing. President Obama Signs Health Care Bill

President Obama Signs Health Care Bill – A jubilant President Obama signed the health care bill into law today, calling its historic expansion of insurance coverage “reforms that generations of Americans have fought for and marched for and hungered to see.” The law expands health insurance coverage for 32 million Americans, in part by preventing insurance companies from denying coverage to people who are sick or have pre-existing conditions. The new law provides subsidies for some Americans to purchase insurance. During his address to members of Congress before signing the bill, Obama made no mention of the executive order, abortion, or the arrangement he made with Stupak and other Democrats who had been waiting until the last-minute to determine their stance on the bill. The bill requires that at least one health care plan be promoted across the country that pays for abortions, more abortion funding would come via the affordability credits, and many of the so-called limits on abortion funding in the Senate bill are temporary and could expire or be overturned at a later date. Obama expressed confidence in the bill, saying “the overheated rhetoric” of the health care debate will be overtaken by “the reality of reform.” He added that the changes in the law must be put in place carefully. Kara DioGuardi: Bikini Stunt Saved My Job

A year after strutting around in a black two-piece on stage on the American Idol finale, Kara DioGuardi tells Women’s Health that the move “probably saved my job.” “I kept saying no,” the songwriter said, recalling the plan to face off against Katrina Darrell , a.k.a. Bikini Girl. “I mean, what crazy nut is gonna go out there in a bikini at almost 40 years of age against a girl who is 20 and probably cosmetically enhanced?” Still, she calls it “a defining moment” that helped cement her place on the American Idol panel along with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. “Like, ‘She’s serious and industry, but also as kooky as everyone else on this panel,'” DioGuardi says . “I looked a little pasty. But hey, at least I didn’t wet myself!” Small victories. As for how she maintains her body, the American Idol staple says she hits the gym four times a week. There, she runs two miles or does 25 minutes of cardio. “Boxing, treadmill, step-ups, lunges, sprints, I mix it up … Weight training is important as you get older. You build muscle, which burns fat when you rest.” And in addition to drinking at least “two huge bottles” of water a day, she eats plenty of veggie stir-fry: “The more roughage you eat, the more it fills you up.” And if she ever loses motivation to maintain her fitness and diet, she counts on her loved ones. No we don’t mean Simon, although we can see him saying this: “Someone [close to me] said, ‘You may want to work on your arms – they’re a little jiggly,'” she says. “The people in my life have no qualms about telling me!”
